Eric Bana in New York City

Posted on August 20, 2013

You wouldn’t think there’d be much to criticize here, but bless our black little hearts, we zeroed in on something.

“Closed Circuit” star Eric Bana seen leaving the Bowery Hotel in New York City.

If you’re going to wear jeans with a sports coat, it’s best to provide a little bit of contrast. When bitchy fashion bloggers have to peer closely to see whether or not you’re wearing a suit, you’re doing it wrong.

Okay, so maybe not “wrong,” but we think this would look a bit better with either a darker or lighter wash denim. We also think a different color shirt would be nice, but blue-on-blue is a menswear trend right now, so we can’t fault him for that.

The shoes and jacket are nice. We’ll give him that. Because we’re not total bitches.

Eric Bana can do no wrong.

    • Agador Spartacus

I was going to post this exact same thing! These photos make me realize how long it’s been since I’ve seen Eric Bana in anything. Now I know what’s been missing in my life.

    • Judy_S

Or: he can do all the wrong he wants. I won’t mind.

    • Stacy Feng

Except for the Hulk. But that wasn’t really his fault.

  • Diego!

He looks gorgeous!!! I have one complaint tough, if you’re going to wear brown shoes, you MUST wear a brown belt. That’s the first rule of fashion and common sense!!! But I approve, he is rocking this outfit 🙂

    • Sarah

Dunno. Just had a job interview that mean a LOT to me, so I was looking at tips on how to look good, and they said DO NOT match your shoes to your belt. But, I’m a lady, so maybe that’s different?

      • filmcricket

        Good luck!

        • Sarah

Oh, thanks. I am waiting to hear. (I didn’t wear a belt, either).

          • Diego!

Good luck from me too! 😀 I was told many times that they had to match so I followed that rule always!

      • uprightcitizen

Definitely different for a lady than for a guy. For a guy, the belt and shoes need to at least be from the same family (in my opinion). If your shoes are black or gray, your belt should be one of those colors, and if your shoes are brown, your belt should be some shade of brown, too. They don’t have to match exactly, but a brown shoe and a black belt makes it look like you’re too poor to own another belt or you’re colorblind. But I think Bana is okay here … if you look closely, I think it’s actually not a black belt, but a very dark brown one. At any rate, the edges are distressed brown leather, which means it’s at the very least, a two-tone belt (which would be fine). It’s not like he can wear a suede belt, anyway. I had honey-brown, suede wingtips pretty much identical to these when I was a junior in high school in 1980. But I wore them with a three-piece corduroy suit that was exactly the same color. Hope that doesn’t come back anytime soon!

        • Sarah

Okay. That is a lot of stuff to take in. I know that people are used to seeing certain things, and for a celebrity especially, you don’t want to have a look that is going to say something about you that you don’t want, but I have a hard time imagining that there are no scenarios in the world where you could have a belt and shoes that didn’t match. Then again, I am really put off by “should” and rules and stuff, so maybe I’d be a poorly dressed man…

          • boweryboy

I agree with you Sarah. I think the belt-must-match-the-shoe fashion directive has fallen by the wayside along with no white shoes after Labor Day.

I own two brown belts yet I have about a dozen brown shoes of varying shades. The belts do not always match the shoes. It drives me crazy. So, for me personally, it’s less egregious to wear a black belt with a brown shoe then a brown belt that doesn’t match the brown shoe, but that’s just me.

      • Esz

I ALWAYS match my shoes to my belt! But then I wear 40’s and 50’s clothes so its all – well, everything was matchy then, and fuck it, I like matchy

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I think the belt is brown, just doesn’t show up well in the pics. And I’m SOOOOOO happy he’s actually wearing a belt! Lots of the guys have been leaving off the belt, even with a suit. It drives me to distraction!

  • Bless your bitchy blogger hearts, TLo. By 10 a.m. tomorrow, we might as well keep our eyes closed and criti-smize till that Gucci dress is gone or till men leave “suit-denim” to the pros (aka Justin Timberlake circa 2001.)

    • Imasewsure

How “criti-smize” is one of the best words ever…. especially for blogging bitter kittens like us … love it!!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

I was going to say the jeans were not the most flattering cut ever… a little “grandpa”. Not bad as the ones we saw on Clooney or someone a while back. He could work a little more modern cut – the lose up top and through the leg, but slim at the ankle is odd.

  • I don’t care, cause, Eric Bana. That’s all.

  • Emily Smith

I didn’t realize those were jeans until you guys said they were.

  • Qitkat

I’m a sucker for a man in blue. But. That jacket is so odd, almost matches the skirt of the woman behind him. So it makes me a little twitchy for the almost, not quite, matching of his jeans. Love the shoes. Just the right stage of cute scruff too. I would advise him not to sit on any white couches with those brand new jeans though. I might be speaking from experience.

  • Mmmmmmhmmmmmm….I’m sorry, you were saying? I’m sure you’re right TLo, but I just don’t care. He is dreamy.

  • gabbilevy

As if you two bitches needed an excuse to “peer closely” at Eric Bana’s “jeans.”

  • DamH

Is his sexyness always the way as it is here, why haven’t I noticed that, darm!

    • MilaXX

I think he’s improved with age. Young Bana did nothing for me, but gray haired Bana is YOWSA!

      • GenieinTX

I so agree. The man is yummy now. Rowr.

  • Tatiana Luján

    He is hot and cute.

  • skitzfiggitous

This could be a fun new game on T-Lo… “The pretty celebrity did one thing is wrong… Can you guess what it is?”

I’d suck at it, but I’d play.

    • MoHub

I actually got it, but only after I saw the closeup of the jacket.

  • Akmall Razlan

Well, I total love those brown shoes. And the best accessory would be the grey hair, hot daddy indeed!

    • decormaven

Those shoes are very fine- anyone recognize the make?

  • Nikko Viquiera

    Clothes? what clothes?

  • LesYeuxHiboux

The only problem I see is that he’s wearing clothes.

And I’m going to go watch Troy now.

  • MilaXX

I prefer dark wash jeans in general, but all in all? He looks good. He’s groomed, stuff fits shoes don’t look like they came from the goodwill and he’s wearing a belt. I’m not gonna quibble.

  • Holy God he looks delicious.

  • RebeccaKW

I think the color of the jacket would be fine, if the plaid was more pronounced to provide the contrast. There is a faint plaid pattern, right, I’m not seeing things?

  • MaggieMae

Point taken about the lack of contrast between the jacket and jeans. I barely noticed! I absolutely love that color of blue (shirt). The jacket is mighty fine. The jeans fit him like a dream. Gimme.

  • E2_Remote

I love him. People don’t realize, but he started out as a comedian in Oz on a SNL-like show called “Full Frontal.” Unfortunately, it was not a literal title…sigh.

  • Shawn EH

Points for starched collar and no neckbeard!

    • kimmeister

Yes, I noticed the beard-without-neckbeard too and mentally congratulated him for it!

  • MartyBellerMask

    Good looking man.

  • CeeQ

Aww I love Eric Bana =) But have to agree – the tone on tone can get boring.
Still though, I think I he looks quite yummy here =)

  • Sara Brams-Miller

    Those shoes are pretty fantastic.

  • Mighty fine man! Send him my way.

  • Rand Ortega

That hair. So much nasty I want to do w/ that hair.

  • amanda lynn

ooh, that grey. i’m in swoon.

  • JauntyJohn

Great blazer. Fits him really well, looks sharp as all hell.
Perfect 10 on the scruff styling.

If even with a shirt pulled somewhat loose from moving and sitting and walking your form still suggests a concave stomach, then you have taken excellent care of your great good DNA and I thank you for sharing.

The man knows how to wear his genes.
And the man knows how to wear his jeans. I’m just sayin’.

  • shopgirl716

Wow, he is a good looking guy. The touch of grey suits him. I think he would look best if he discarded the shirt and the jacket.

  • dorothea_brooke

My, he’s aging well. Were you saying something about his clothes or something?

  • pattyw

I’ve never understood why Eric Bana isn’t a far bigger star. Because, yum. And he can act. And, yum.

    • Shawn EH

Bad projects, I think. The worse Hulk movie, the leaden Troy; he was good as the villain in Star Trek … and he was great in the Time Traveler’s Wife!

  • formerlyAnon

    You guys are soooo strict.

  • lobsterlen

My one fault I zeroed in on … he is not naked.

  • Gee, and I thought you were going to criticize the cord around his neck.

  • jen_vasm

    That is all.

  • conniemd

Eric Bana is aging very fine, like a good wine.

  • marlie

I’ll take him just the way he is. He looks HAWT with the slightly greying hair and beard. (Though I do tell my bf the same thing about his jeans and sports coat being too close to the same color, and he just looks at me as if my OCD is flaring up.)

  • roverrun

Here is my reaction to a critique of Eric Bana: :LA LA LA I can’t hear you, LA LA LA !

  • Inspector_Gidget

He’s working the “after work happy hour pickup” vibe pretty well. Hot guy, but damn he needs to pick better roles.

  • oohsparkley!

    I’m tingly.

  • boweryboy

I like the two guys in the background of the first picture.

It’s like they’re all: “Oh, girl. There he goes.” “Mmm hmm, honey. Dude is fuhine coming and going.”

  • guest2visits

Well take some advice and do not look so closely. Because: ERIC BANA.
