Cover Girl: Lady Gaga for V Magazine

Posted on August 16, 2013

Steffi gets to try on a whole bunch of faces for V mag. Steffi’s at her best when you give her something to sink her teeth into like this. Then again, she’s got pretty much the same facial expression in all four shots. This is more of a triumph of styling and photography than a triumph of Steffi’s. She’s like the Johnny Depp of pop stars; always needing to hide behind makeup and costumes. Still, they’re fun pics.

I looks like they just photoshopped her face onto 4 different bodies. Mix it up a little, Steffie.

    • Jamie M.

I agree. That first shot is pretty nice though.

  • Tatiana Luján

She looks great in all the pictures.

  • estella_nyc

The Armani pic is especially nice.

  • Ashleigh

WOW. These are great. I love the first one…The Armani plastic fun!

  • HVM

She looks far more interesting in these photos without the “edgy” face paint she’s been wearing lately.

  • alyce1213

She looks so much better without a lot of makeup and platinum hair.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

That red sequined Saint Laurent jacket is beyond fabulous.

    • Rhonda Shore

it really is and there’s something refreshing about these pictures where you get a sense of what she actually looks like.

  • Dylgeah

Looking at the third picture… it’s not too hard to figure out what the “V” stands for.

    • DilettanteDeconstructed

Not for variety, that’s for damn sure.

      • Anthagio

Did you even look at the spreads, though? Obviously not.

  • marlie

Not much range (i.e., NONE) in terms of facial expression, but the photos are great, nonetheless, largely due to the styling and photography!

  • Glam Dixie

Those 2 front teeth must be enormous to keep her mouth from closing like that. Love that picture of her looking like Chrissy Hines.

    • amanda siegelson

      chrissie hynde.

      • Glam Dixie

Thanks, yes, her. At least I was close enough that you knew who I meant! Guess it shows that I’m not a Pretenders fan.

        • amanda siegelson

but you should be! chrissie has such a glorious voice…

    • Julie Ree

I was seeing Joan Jett- same decade at least.

  • ‘Becca’lise Deveaux

    So tiresome.

  • omg_dora

Close your mouth, girl. You look like a complete idiot.

    • Anthagio

She has an overbite, therefore her mouth is always open.

  • annabelle archer

“Steffi gets to try on a whole bunch of faces for V mag.” Steffi has been sporting a new face since she got back from hip surgery (coughbullshitcough) so I’m sure she had fun becoming all of these people as well. Shame she couldn’t animate them anymore than she did.

    • alyce1213

I’d love to know the name of her hip surgeon because she’s — I mean her hips — have never looked better.

      • annabelle archer

Yes! Clearly there was a whole body wellness approach that is to be commended.

    • Rusky Razvan

She said that she filmed her surgery for her new documentary so that might be true though.

  • homofascist

Tori Amos. Strange Little Girls album cover.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

I think she looks amazing without makeup. She should go “nude” all the time.

  • GorgeousThings

I kinda like the Joan Jett thing she’s got going on in the third cover.

    • NoveltyRocker

I’m getting this and a bit of Gina Gershon too.

    • CakesOnAPlane

Love the styling, but the boob grab is terribly awkward.

  • Latin Buddy

She looks like a cleaned up Joan Jett in the red sequined jacket.

  • imspinningaround

Not a lot of range in the face, but the Armani and Saint Laurent looks are gorgeous.

  • d4divine

She looks great. I don’t mind her facial expression, afterall, JLo’s been rocking the same damn pouty glossed lip for decades. Lol

  • mhleta

Wow, she can pull off anything. I loved this shoot. Jerry Hall, Joan Jett and Heidi Klume all from one person. Say was you want about her, but she’s a fine canvas!

  • kimmeister

I literally don’t understand what’s going on with her boobs in the Balenciaga. They look like they’re mid-mammogram or something.

  • stubbornthoughts

I kinda really dig her as a brunette – aka, her real hair color.

  • formerlyAnon

Okay, can we build consensus: Has she recently had some work done, and if so, what? I am not good at these things, but I’d guess bite correction? Or am I imagining the whole thing?

In any case, I am partial to the photo of her here as a brunette.

In other news, in going back to some older photos I had a five minute impromptu reunion with photos of the dear, dear, Hot Ginger Handler. A good five minutes.

  • snarkykitten

Maybe it’s the makeup, but she looks really sickly, especially in that last shot

    • jabes

The way she’s holding her stomach in the last photo, I think it looks like she’s going to vomit or something.

  • clairellis

This looks like beaver face. Why are they all the same?

  • Constant Reader

Is she still famous? I was kind of hoping she had gone away.

    • demidaemon

Get ready to see her over-exposed again, as she has a new album coming out.

I’ve heard the first single, and, I must admit, I kind of dig it, more than Katy Perry’s latest single.

  • ashtangajunkie

Same facial expression but I still love every shot. She looks beautiful.

  • bellafigura1

    1. Annie Lennox 2. Stevie Nicks 3. Chrissie Hynde 4. ????

  • Kate

I like the first one. Her hair is best in it

  • Mariah J

Did she also need to show her tits in all 4 covers? Yawnfest

  • Fanny_Trollope

Striking photos. Pretty sure she wasn’t born this way, though.

  • nannypoo

Beautiful. She’s really been flailing her boobies around a lot lately, hasn’t she.

  • Chartreusite

    She’s striking as hell.

  • conniemd

She would have made a great secret spy. She has a face that is indistinctive in its natural state, but with changes and make-up and hair can look like someone totally different. She isn’t beautiful, she’s rather plain, but because of the ordinariness of her features she would be fantastic to work with to take on so many different looks. Love the shoot for that reason.

    • housefulofboys

I agree with you on the whole, but not in the details. She is indeed rather plain/ordinary without makeup, but I think she has striking individual features that “absorb” different makeup treatments to become extraordinary. I think her hooded eyes are amazing, her chin, cheekbones and nose are classic, and her features are symmetrical.

I thought this was a great shoot for her, too – if she would just close her mouth, though, she would look worlds better!

  • Anniebet

Bottom pic. Did she borrow Donatella Versace’s mouth for it?

    • Rusky Razvan

The image is actually an homage to Donatella Versace. Acording to her.

  • MilaXX

These have been floating around for a while. I like them all and really would have prefer any of them over the clown paint she had been wearing in public.

  • quiltrx

I like the first and last pictures best.

    • Nondescript

I had exactly the same reaction. Stylistically I kind of like the one with the rockstar sequin jacket too, but really, if they’re going to have her holding her breast and taking off her pants, do they ALSO need to position the V like that?

  • guest2visits

There is something really pretty about the shots where she looks the most undone; the 2nd, 3rd & 4th. I think they deliver a ton more emotion than the big costumes and gear. Without the massive exoskeleton she appears fragile and raw.

    • Pennymac

      “Undone” Well said.

  • jilly_d

  • Lizzy

I just find almost nothing attractive about her……

  • joanna dash

I like the first photo the least. She looks twice her age. I love the last one. I agree that she does need to close her mouth once in a while.

  • amanda lynn

you’re right. same face. miss mandy is disappoint.

  • librarygrrl64

I’m getting Joan Jett in the Versace shot and Beyonce in the St. Laurent shot.

  • Sushy Gooroo

Good God, all that photoshop and this is the result???

  • Colin

Oh please that criticism is hardly applicable here (4 cover shots shot similarly) and how is this failure-of-face-giving as you describe it, indicative of her need to hide costumes and makeup? Its not that I’m angry that you’ve insulted some pop star (lol) its just that its tiring to notice your tendency to warp your criticism based on personal opinions you have about that celebrity. Its not major but its persistent and its the only real consistent issue I have with your criticism, because otherwise, its objective, deeply informative regarding the industries involved, and aesthetically knowledgable.

    • demidaemon

Um, the tagline reads “opinionated”–nothing objective there at all.

    • shorty j

“Its not that I’m angry that you’ve insulted some pop star (lol)”
except you totally are and you’re not fooling anyone

“its just that its tiring to notice your tendency to warp your criticism based on personal opinions you have about that celebrity.”
except that’s kinda how this works

    • Tom and Lorenzo

There is nothing “objective” about what we say here. This is a classic example of “I love what you guys do, until you do it to a celebrity I like.” The entire schtick of this site, for over seven years now, is that it’s chock full of our personal opinions on everything we post about.

You also should read more carefully because we never said that her failure to give face was indicative of her need to wear costumes.

  • Melanie

Why have I never noticed how much she looks like Judith Light? The second pic here, especially. Who IS the Boss?

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Why does she have a tiny, weird child-hand in the third shot? Was that intentional?

  • lrhoff

    She’s lost weight….good for her.

  • Pato

as a shout out to the fabolous mrs. angela lansbury (for no reason whatsoever): “Model, She Ain’t”.
