Cover Girl: Dakota Fanning for ELLE Korea Magazine

Posted on August 29, 2013

Since it seems like we only ever feature her on the street, when she mostly couldn’t care less about how she looks (or at least wants to give that impression), we thought we’d remind everyone what Miss Dakota looks like with a blowout and some warpaint on.

Dakota Fanning covers the September 2013 issue of ELLE Korea magazine.

Give this girl some time and she could develop a sort of “American Helena Bonham Carter” style, if she’s given some coaching. We’re not huge fans of steampunk, but it would suit her perfectly.

    • Randy Noak

Why does she look surprised in every photo?

      • Beardslee

        And vacant?

        • H3ff

She’s serving up some serious Luna Lovegood.

      • kimmeister

Because she’s shocked at what a little eyeliner and powder can do?

      • buttercup

I feel like they made her eyes bigger during the editing.

        • tereliz

I feel like they added eyebrow hair (under the brow bone especially) to the cover…

      • paginatrix

She also (pretty much always) looks like she just spent 20 minutes blowing her nose. Does she have terrible allergies?

    • RussellH88

The blowout in that second picture looks kind of silly. That is not Beyonce Wind.

    • Karen Belgrad

Are “Brooke Shields” eyebrows making a comeback?

      • Getoverit

        I thought they were…aren’t they?

        • Karen Belgrad

I don’t know, I’m actually not being snarky (for once) and asking a genuine question. :)

          • alyce1213

I think so. Lily Collins has ‘em. I can’t think who else right now.

            • Loola234

But Lily at least cleans up the underbrow area, even if she veers too close to unibrow in the middle…those stragglers…I want to tweeze them.

            • alyce1213

Truly. I’m shocked the makeup person let it go.

            • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

              Cara Delevingne.

            • kimmeister

              Emilia Clarke?

          • Getoverit

I know when I go get my brows done they are going for a fuller brow than they did last year.

            • sweetestsith

Ditto. I like it, my brows are crazy thick and that means less time getting threaded! Marginally at least. ;) I’m not down with the unibrow, but I love the fuller styles in general.

    • Tracy M

I hate myself for reaching for my tweezers…

      • amanda lynn

why hate yourself?? it’s incredibly distracting!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

So the dresses are too big, the hair is too fried and messy, the face is too frightened. I miss Dakota Fanning, Actress.

    • marlie

She looks pretty, and these looks suit her perfectly.

      • Getoverit

I like that shes not your average beauty.

    • alyce1213

Her face is a beautiful blank slate, full of possibilities. But I’m not getting anything other than the photographer went “boo!” The clothes are lovely, her hair not so much.

    • decormaven

Ooh, steampunk! Hope some smart magazine stylist picks up on this cue. It would be amazing.

    • DaringMiss

The wide eyes and puffy hair make her look like Carol Kane during her days on Taxi.

Not the look I think she was going for…

    • steeg of their own

The hair looks like she stuck her tongue in a wall socket.

    • elirt

Is she against waxing/plucking her eyebrows?

    • MilaXX

A bt of war paint and color does wonders for her.

    • Betsy

“Forever Young”??? She’s EFFing 19!! She IS young. I can’t believe “Elle” has stooped to having a 19-yr-old on its cover, and then purporting to discuss aging in the same issue!

      • Kent Roby

I started to post the same thing, then scrolled to see that you beat me to it!

    • jjfg

      Same. Face. Every. Look.

      Yawn.

    • nyazgirl

I’m disappointed. The Korean shoots are typically so devastatingly artistic and gorgeous. This just looks like Glamour Shots to me. :(

    • bertkeeter

She looks great..disapointed in V SK for that basic studio smokey sheet backdrop…really?

    • AnnPopovic

“We’re not huge fans of steampunk, but it would suit her perfectly.” — spot ON!

    • elemspbee

She’s better off on the streets.

    • filmcricket

It’s kind of amazing how much younger she does look here, especially compared to her “street” looks but even compared to the RC. Put all that stuff on her and instead of looking like a 19-year-old, she looks like a 15-year-old playing dress-up.

    • kimmeister

She has very shapely lips. She should highlight them more often.

    • Lily-Rygh

I keep looking at that cover and thinking about how much more dramatic it could look if her hair was its natural color. Maybe I’m just really, really over the whole, “I’m a Hollywood actress so at some point I need to be blonde” thing, but I suspect her features could be more stunning with less make-up if there was some natural contrast between her hair and skin tone…

    • Qitkat

I’ve seen tornado survivors with better hair. Hate this.

    • MoHub

      Deer in headlights eyes. Frightening!

    • ballerinawithagun

More lemon yellow hair, yuck! I love Steampunk! She has the pale skin to pull it off and then they would have to do something about the lemon yellow hair, yippee!

    • Tanya Wade

“Anime Eyes” sung to the tune of “Ebony Eyes” does come to mind. Still, love the clothes and esp. those t-strap shoes.

    • In_Stitches

She looks like…oh what’s her face from Raising Helen? Goldie Hawn’s daughter? The woman who was in like 5 romantic comedies with whatshisface. Damn, I’m bad with names today.

      • Sadie-Ann

        Kate Hudson.

I’m totally with you that she looks like a member of that family in these pictures.

    • mmebam

They forgot the “Brazilian” part of the blowout. Her poor hair…

    • SewingSiren

I think she looks beautiful in all three shots. But especially #2 where the make-up is applied with a lighter hand. She should wear these three colors all the time, they suit her.

    • NoveltyRocker

Love the combo of necklaces on the cover. They’re each really calling to elements in the other. Captures a thrown together appeal without looking haphazard.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Her face always registers as vacuous to me.

    • Katesymae

That second picture is suuuuuuuper awkward. It’s like she’s time-warped to a 1980s prom and the photographer took the shot while she was still looking for a place to put her purse.

    • mjude

feel protective of her. i do like her own little style

    • majorbedhead

I like it. She’s giving me a Carol Kane vibe, which is kind of cool.

    • Trickytrisha

Red sure is effective on pale blondes, huh? That blue gown has such potential, but doesn’t show well as it’s styled. She’s super cute, but hasn’t grown into herself yet. Give her time, as TLo say.

    • higgledypiggledy

Steampunk? My first thought was how dynamite she would look in the Valentino Fall 2013 looks.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I finally saw the Twilight series and it too me 30 seconds to recognize Dakota Fanning as “Jane.” Needless to say, these vampires wore lots of makeup. It would seem that the “good” vampires had somewhat softer makeup, or at least the Cullen family female vampires did. The women–like Bella Swan–always had prominent, soft eyelashes, and smudges of charcoal around the eyes.” One of the (bad) Voturi vampires was Dakota, and her makeup was so hard. She had thick, black eyeliner that created an image of coarseness and rigidity. She probably wore false eyeless. Whatever she wore, she had thick, blocks of darkness around her eyes. What I’m trying to say is that I didn’t realize that Dakota was as pretty as she is. The softer makeup becomes her and she can rock the red lipstick.

I like the third look the best.

    • macwell

She looks cute here. Age appropriate even. Good for her! Miley? We’re waiting (for you to stop actin’ the fool)…..

    • fuchaforeva

Shouldn’t they have plucked those stray eyebrow hairs first before putting her on the cover?

    • Danielle

Like a deer in the headlights.

    • DominoEstella

she’s a stunning girl, with beautiful features but she’s no model She’s a one trick pony. A Zoolander.
