Cover Girl: Amanda Seyfried for ELLE Hungary Magazine

Posted on August 20, 2013

We suppose, if you’re a makeup artist and big-eyed Amanda is sitting in your chair, the temptation to do this must be overwhelming:

Amanda Seyfried covers the September 2013 issue of ELLE Hungary magazine.

And yet, we don’t think the retro-Goldie Hawn eye makeup actually suits her. Her eyes are so big and so much the focus of her face, that if you overplay them in her makeup, the end result can look a little odd. We can definitely see her working mod, Twiggy-style looks and makeup, but maybe not so much on the extreme falsies and the inner-eye points. It has an oddly flattening effect.

      Animé Wrong.

      • Kiltdntiltd

        Oh,Hughman. You slay me.

      • StellaZafella

        Soooo right! CGI,I,I!

      • PeaceBang

That’s it for me for the night. *bows to Hughman*

    • Moriginal

You guys, she NEEDS those falsies to hold up the two giant Ls in ELLE.

      • latenac

That was exactly what I was thinking. In fact, I thought that’s what they were referring to in the sentence ” the temptation to do this must be overwhelming:” But then realized that was probably the art director’s temptation not the makeup artist’s.

        • Shawn EH

That art director needs a slap!

          • Lucía Gavello

            He does, he does indeed.

      • Shannon Campe

Agreed, they slapped the title in the wrong spot!

    • KateShouldBeWorking

      Real Doll.

    • MoHub

Her eyes look as if they’re trying to escape from her face.

    • Diego!

You forgot to mention her big lips too!

      • Little_Olive

Really, if she speaks she may tickle her nose. A big upper lip is not for everyone, people. Particularly when it’s not god-given.

        • Diego!

hahaa you are very right Litte_Olive! She must be kissing her nose everytime she speaks 😛

    • annabelle archer

She looks angry yet vacant. Is that a thing now?

      • RebeccaKW

Yea, I was thinking if her eyes had any sort of focus, it’d greatly help the look. She just looks like a mannequin.

      • Inspector_Gidget

She’s so pissed she can’t see straight!

    • MilaXX

Remove the lashes and this look would improve greatly.

    • Glam Dixie

      Bratz doll.

    • Imasewsure

I kind of like it because it’s so odd and unflattering (and therefore different) but for AS it’s definitely not a winning look

    • alyce1213

They made her look like the eastern European ideal.

    • AmeliaEve

      Hungary Eyes.

      • 3boysful

Who knew there was an ELLE Hungary?

      • Constant Reader

Now I have that cheesy song in my head. Thanks for that! :)

    • Number12LooksJustLikeMe

It’s like a kiddie pageant “glitz” photo!

    • Rand Ortega

She looks like a Keane painting.

      • 3boysful

Bingo. Those were almost required little girl bedroom decor when I was growing up.

    • Ms_Flyover

I feel as if she should be looking sad and holding a cat.

    • MalCo09

      It’s very uncanny valley

    • VioletFem

The urge may be overwhelming but it is also unimaginative.

    • Shawn EH

I am transfixed by her eye hypnosis!

    • Darcy H

The placement of those L’s is so bafflingly awkward that I’m forced to conclude it was intentional. Which forces me to conclude that the person who designed this cover is laughing at us somewhere.

      • decormaven

Or is getting fired for such a silly layout. Somebody’s going to get a hand slap or worse for this.

    • annachronizm

especially weird with the two L’s as her eyebrows….

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

she looks exactly like Gemma Ward in her best days…

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

And having the “L”s in the title sitting over her eyes only emphasizes the ludicrosity of the makeup.

    • bertkeeter

Why do so many foreign magazine covers have better styling than the ones published in the US?

    • Qitkat

I’m sure much can be attributed to photoshop and makeup, but she does have the most amazing proportions to her features, giving her that big-eyed perfect doll look.

    • ashtangajunkie

Well, it they were going for BAM, then congratulations to them. That is some BAM.

    • Anniebet

Meh, they made her look like a blank eyed doll – nobody home in the pic.

    • Introspective

just no. this cover does nothing for her.

    • Aidan B

Her lips are definitely not that big IRL. Her mouth is almost as distracting as the spider lashes, for me.

      • CNM

That was my first thought, too. Photoshop fail.

    • understateddiva

From your mouths to God’s ears. Seriously, I feel like her eyes are SO OFTEN overplayed.

    • demidaemon

For me, all I could focus on were her lips. They seem especially large in this cover. Whether it is because of the make-up or otherwise, I do not know.

    • Constant Reader

Why makeup artists feel the need to go so overboard making up someone this naturally pretty is beyond me. I’d be thinking “Yes! Nature did most of the work for me. I am totally going to have time to go out for a cup of tea and pain chocolat this morning.”

    • judybrowni

By the way, I just caught “Lovelace” and the girl did her damndest, but the script and direction made it almost as boring as the original “Deep Throat” screening the boyfriend and I caught 40 years ago.

    • guest2visits

I love all of it except those inner eye corners!
