Chloë Moretz in London

Does this top work with these jeans, you think?

Or does she need a little more contrast? We’re asking.

We think it’s a pretty chic little look overall, but there’s something strangely mature and formal about that top. And that’s an awful lot of gray. But the purse is a perfect little pop of color, even if it does look like a play purse for a little girl.

We’re being nitpicky, we know. It’s what we do.

You know, for a monotone charcoal outfit, this strangely works for me. I really like this a lot the more I look at it.

  • ♕ Natalie ♕

oh wow what a fabulous top! A bit of contrast would have helped but i don’t mind the look overall, i think it’s very pretty and flattering. Love the purse.

    • barbarienne

There’s no color contrast betwixt top and bottom, but the massive textural contrast is creating visual interest.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Yes, exactly – it’s like it shouldn’t work, but it does anyway.

      • Rhonda Shore

Exactly right. She looks great and this is far better than her recent attempts at high style.

    • kim bunchalastnames

o man, i would cut a bitch for that top.

      • sojourneryouth

Seriously! I’d pair it with a black skirt and killer heels instead of jeans, though. I haven’t fallen so instantly in love with a top in some time.

  • hmariec19

I think it’s a great look, but I do wish the jeans were more “blue” jeans.

  • In_Stitches

I wish she was wearing chuck taylors.

    • Imasewsure

I feel so fashion-savvy!! I just wrote that and I am proud of my TLo training that I was able to be symbiotic with a fellow BK! Yeah!!

  • I do love the top. Its gorgeous. However, as you opined, it seems a bit too formal with the rest of what she’s sporting. And shoes with clear plastic bits? NO!

    • kmk05

They look like they have a strap which is buckled too tight, too. Nothing as off-putting as mysteriously cut-off circulation! I would have loved to see this look with colourful flats or something.

    • RebeccaKW

I’m digging the look, minus those shoes. For me, they are the needle scratch. I’d be fine with heels, just not these.

  • melisaurus

That top is a little mature. Make it a tank top and colored jeans! Young girls should be wearing colored jeans.

    • Kristin McNamara

I think making the top into a tank or even just cap sleeves would youthen it up quite a bit. Otherwise, I love this look!

    • kimmeister

Or make it a scoop neck, anything but a crew neck!

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

It’s working for me, but that may be because she’s a Little Miss Fashionista. I’d definitely hate it in an older gal.

  • MK03

I have no objection. She’s making it work.

  • Lori

This works better than it probably should, but yeah, I think I would have liked it better with more contrast.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Works for me. Even the slightly nutty shoes. She looks very cute and I really, really LOVE the top.

  • barbarienne

I think it all works together, but would be better on someone at least a decade older than she is. Maybe two or three decades.

The shoes are okay with the outfit, but I don’t like them just in general. I am morally opposed to clear plastic in shoes that aren’t being worn underwater.

  • clatie

    She looks adorable.

  • Bluesgirl22

    Flat out fabulous

  • procrastinatrice

Actually I love the top and the jeans together. I am unconvinced that the bag works. It’s such a silly-looking little thing.

    • mlle

I want to swap it out for an oversized clutch, and for her shoes to be a pair of pumps in the same colour family as the bag.

  • MzzPants

The set-in sleeves at that length look positively grandma-of-the-bride. Imagine it as a tank, maybe with some irreverent jewelry.

  • marlie

I don’t like the shoes and the purse, but the top is adorable! I don’t even mind the grey-on-grey look.

  • Cute and fashion-y. A bit serious, but if this is her doing the quasi emo teen with angst thing, I’ll take it.

  • Diego!

I love it…. I would have dressed her with darker jeans tough. The top is stunning!

  • DamH

That top could’ve been worked way better.

  • MilaXX

I think the look would have worked better with a pair of flats or funky sneakers. It’s a nice look, but very mature and serious for a gal her age.

  • nannypoo

I love the top. It would work with anything, casual or formal. She looks great.

  • She looks cute. But I want to see a picture of someone toting the life-sized hula hoop bag in public; this tiny cute one is a fashion cop out. I’m imagining the boardwalk would be a good place for it.
I think she should have gone for a solid color in the sunnies though – the gray static frames aren’t doing it for me.

  • fungstyle

I think white jeans would have made this a bit more summery and fun and tied back to the bag. But I love the top.

  • Sue_Asponte

the top is not working for me. It looks like what grandma wears with a flowy pleated skirt to your wedding. Nope. No. Uh-uh.

  • melanie0866

It might have actually worked better with actual blue jeans. But it’s cute and I love the purse. I would wear that exact outfit if I was 35 years younger and 35 pounds lighter.

  • imspinningaround

That absurd bag is the piece that doesn’t work.

    • MoHub

      And the overly formal shoes.

  • sk8tfan

I love the top but not on her. Too mature for her, and the color makes her fade.

  • Jessica Freeman

I kinda like it, but then I also kinda hate it. The top is a bit boxy and the jeans are too casual for the shoes and top. I wish the fit was better, with white jeans. The purse doesn’t work at all for me. Hate the plastic shoes…I thought those were pretty much done.

  • neonseattle

who makes those shoes? i love them, but not with the rest of the outfit

  • So glad you said that about the purse. My comment was , ‘that’s the stupidest purse I’ve ever seen.’
Like the outfit. It would look dowdy on me or someone older so I suppose in that way it’s perfectly appropriate only for a young person.

  • flamingoNW

Not wild about it. If the jeans didn’t have the washed out knees I would like it. Don’t care for the shoes with it either.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I wish the jeans had been blue. Then it would be a ‘Werq’ for me.

  • Gloriana Reginata

I love this pairing. The pattern on the top is gaudy enough that the jeans are strictly the support band, and the hip area where the blouse rests on them is where I think it shows up the best. Shame she didn’t steal Kelly’s handbag: the orange would have been a stronger match to the grey, and the quirkiness would have softened the maturity of the look. Hate the shoes unreservedly.

  • nancymae

    I love this!

  • tb

You go back and put on your coat right now, young lady!

  • MartyBellerMask

The top is definitely too mature. On someone else, I’d just say switch the color. But Chloe should change tops altogether.

  • amanda lynn

everything above the ankles is working for me.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I think that top is too nice for those sad, knee-worn jeans. She looks cute, but in my mind those two pieces do not go together.

  • Richard Banger

I’m kinda getting a Blanche Deveraux vibe from the top. Not in a good way think. Even Blanche would’ve picked a more fun color.

  • mmebam

I would pair the two. I think she looks great.

  • EEKstl

I love this top so the unicharcoal is working for me. The pop of red is key.

  • AmeliaEve

The cap toe shoes are kind of a goof on classic Chanel, so for me they are a perfect nod to the silly Chanel bag. I like the fabrics of the top and jeans together, but I wish the top had a more interesting shape. Whoever suggested it as a tank had a good idea.

  • JLH

A darker wash on the jeans would make this a great little outfit.

  • alyce1213

I love the top and the pants, but not those shoes with that outfit.

  • guest2visits

Ugh – throw that ugly toy purse away. The nice top and even nicer heels go well together, but the casual jeans are the odd piece in the outfit. The pants could’ve been a quality pair of black jeans or slacks or even a skirt.
Still cute – and so much classier since she decided not to do a Miley in her see-thru shirt.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Cute overall, but agree that the top is a little matronly. And somehow the (perfectly fitting) jeans are not doing enough to offset that. Dig the shoes.

  • ConnieBV

    Young Sophia Petrillo.

  • Ashley Alvarez

Disagree about the bag! Honestly think it’s the wrong shape, color, feel for this look. A pop of something non-grey, for sure, but not this!

  • Imasewsure

Nah I agree… the individual pieces are good but don’t really come together as an outfit. I think I might like the top with something else or the outfit with some Chuck Taylors or something… dunno but not quite right

  • Emily Wilson

It would work if the top wasn’t see-through. If the tan went to the hem of the top, it would work much better.

  • Cathy S

I think she looks adorable. It’s working for me.

  • RuthGo

I love the top but I’d be more excited if she wore blue jeans and a younger shoe.

  • Guest

I like the outfit well enough, but I think the bag was the wrong pop of color. However, I’ve been silent long enough and I need to get something off my chest: this girl is on my irrational celebrity hate list. I don’t know why (hence the “irrational”), and I feel a bit bad for it since she’s literally a child, but something about her just bugs me.

    • JLH

I don’t know if you’ve seen her movies or not, but she’s a wonderful actress. However I think if all I knew of her were the pictures, I think I would agree with you. Something about her in pictures bugs me sometimes, too.

  • Monabel

    Love it.

  • conniemd

The top has a tan/beige under lining or top (not sure which). If it was a slightly more contrasting color than skin tone, it wouldn’t look so gray.

  • putacorkinit

  • Lilithcat

    In a word, yes!

  • Victoria Anzalone

    She looks effing fabulous.

  • Anathema_Device

Love everything about this look. The interest and texture on the top keep it from being too much gray. This whole manages to be fun and sophisticated at the same time. That’s a tough balance to strike. Well done, Chloe!

  • pookiesmom

I think this totally works, though I want to tell her bodyguard to raise his hands a few inches and keep them where we can see ’em.

  • Louise Bryan

I have no complaint. I like the top with the swirlies, and the half-circle purse seems to go with it, and provides a pop of color. She’s done some cray-cray, so I give her two thumbs up on this outfit.

  • formerlyAnon

Love the top, like the ensemble.

  • William Thill

Yeah: This is pretty chic, unexpected, and very cool. I disagree: I think the top is edgy and young looking

  • Jecca2244

i think the jean color works way better this way than if they had been blue denim.

  • ankali

The top is a little bulky, but overall I think she looks super-cute. Love the bag.

  • quiltrx

That top is gorgeous! I don’t even mind the monotone.

  • Reality TV Casting

i like the color i wish they were an inch longer and hit right above the ankle

  • Michelle Wilson

I’d prefer a pant with more saturated color and a less worn finish.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

White jeans? Maybe? Different shoes? I love the top, but something’s missing here.

  • somebody blonde

More contrast. The grays are too similar without being the same color. If she had gone for not-gray pants, this would be a great look- especially if she’d picked a fun color or white for the pants.

  • mickiemonkey

I think she looks completely fabulous, very European. The top is a great contrast to the worn look jeans and the tone on tone pulls it together.

  • Kristobel

I think a red jean would have been perfect. More fun!
