Chloë Moretz in Christopher Kane at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards

Posted on August 12, 2013

Darlings, last night was the night that all the Teens in the land let the rest of us know their Choices. Because the other 364 days of the year, they’re ignored and not allowed to speak.

Chloë Moretz attends the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California in a Christopher Kane dress paired with Jimmy Choo sandals.

Christopher Kane Resort 2014 Collection

It’s cute. Bold; working that primary color thing, which is never a bad idea when you know you’re going to be photographed in front of a wall of bright, screaming logos. It doesn’t feel as youthful as it might, strangely enough. Seems more twentysomething than sixteen-year-old, but that’s par for the course, both for Chloë and for sixteen-year-olds generally.

We don’t know… We like it, but we’re not in love with it. You’d think Chloë, at the Choosey Teen Awards, when she’s got two high-profile movies coming out in the very near future, would step it up a bit more than this on the style front, wouldn’t you? This is like a nice photocall dress. The Choosey Teen Awards is not a time to be safe about things. This is where you plant your flag and make your statement. As a teen, goddammit.

Well, it fits like a dream.
I haven’t actually read anything about the awards show yet, but I have caught just enough to know those teens are still choosing One Direction. Not much of a shocker there.

    • vispreeve

Google dress? She looks cute, but I agree that it doesn’t look as youthful as it might.

      • terpsichory

I was thinking Mondrian dress. I think it’s the neckline. I like it personally; it’s a classic and it does wonders if you have nice shoulders, but it does not read as particularly youthful.

    • MilaXX

It’s a pretty dress, but it’s too grown for her and it doesn’t feel fun. It just seems like this would be an occasion like comic con where you’d want something a little more light hearted than this.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Wow do I hate the obvious zigzag stitching that his holding all the colored panels on. It makes it look like its her Home Ec final project.

      • AmeliaEve

YES – this jumped out at me. The finishing looks almost childish.

In general I think this dress must have seemed like a fun idea but it just doesn’t look as bold and dramatic as it should. I think those shoes are very pretty and feminine, but maybe some bolder footwear and earrings could have given this the zhuzh it is missing.

        • Kiltdntiltd

(Smiling) what truly bugs me the most about that zigzag stitching is twofold. The different colored pieces should have been sewn each with its own color thread. And see them on straight, dammit!

        • makeityourself

No earrings? Not one ring? Very strange to me. She looks unfinished.

      • filmcricket

Thank you, yes – the whole thing looks really cheap to me. Very unfinished, what with the lumpy side seam, and what I assume is actually the zipper under her arm but which looks like a sewing error.

        • omg_dora

Yes and yes. Plus the sheer backing fabric for the stripy bits looks like clingfilm. Demand better clothes, Chloe!

      • SugarSnap108

It’s awful. There might as well be safety pins holding it all together.

        • Little_Olive

Shhh, Donatella may hear you and revive it.

      • mhleta

That’s the same “faggoting” that Bradon used in his winning PR piece, yes?

    • mhleta

Either the hair color or the dress, but not both together. Also, she seems a bit constricted, which kind of disempowers her usual level of independent ferociousness.

    • Karen Belgrad

Is it just me, or does she look like a Trapper Keeper decorated with stickers? (Back to school on the brain?)

      • Shawn EH

        That’s what’s good about it!

      • Little_Olive

        I was thinking Playmobil couture.

    • Diego!

I love this dress on her… but those are some ugly shoes! But it suits her perfectly! No complaints, but the shoes! 😛

      • SewingSiren

Look at the ones the model is wearing. I don’t even think a toddler could wear them successfully.

        • Diego!

The ones the model is wearing are hideous too. I think even worse than the ones Chlöe is wearing 😛

    • SewingSiren

No complaints here. She looks confident. And I am ever so glad she did not wear the same shoes as the model.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Liked it more on quick first look
      – less and less as I look closer. It’s fun-ish and not over sexy. I think mostly it works.

    • TaurusKW

I like the dress, but everything else is bland. Her hair could be zhushed, and she could definitely use some jewelery to accent the look.

    • Fordzo

I feel like I can see a dark shadow (get it? Dark Shadow? Wasn’t she in that movie? Ba dum bum, I’ll be here all week, please tip your waiter.) behind the yellow stripe and it’s making me feel uncomfortable.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Whoa whoa whoa… are those colored panels sheer? Even the yellow part…?

      • conniemd

It looks to me like the yellow sheer is placed right over her good china, so I was wondering myself about that.

        • barbarienne

That was my thought as well. It’s a little squicky, given her age.

    • HVM

I love this dress but I wish she’s worn a more adventurous shoe in a primary colour.

      • embers618

I agree. I’m pretty sure I wore some version of that shoe, with a dress in a similar shape, to an office Christmas party in my early twenties. I think that’s what’s making it look too mature.

    • A Shiny O’Connor

Such a fresh dress. Shoes and hair are let down – the former too mature, and the latter too ‘still haven’t had time to shower today’. This dress was screaming for a white two-strap and pulled back hair.

    • Karen Belgrad

I just looked through the other fashion choices for this event.. Scared to say, but I think hers might be the best (aka least offensive). I can’t wait for the T-Lo reviews!

    • elemspbee

aw, she has given so much life with her other sartorial choices. This is indeed too grown up, though a bit of fun with the play with colors with the stripe. Shoes kills it–taking it to unnecessarily maturehood and a different occasion.

    • Nicholas

I don’t dig the look, but the dress is so venue-appropriate I can’t help loving it anyway.

Is it just me, by the way, or does she look like someone whose name is Colette?

    • ashtangajunkie

I don’t like the dress all that much, but I think it could have been helped with better shoes. Those shoes aren’t nearly fun enough for the dress.

    • BPlease

The part of her hair, the color of it, and the styling and how she’s carrying herself make Chloe look like a 45-year old with the face of a 12-year old. Some freaky maturity thing is going on here for me. Not good.

    • formerlyAnon

I think one or two pieces of big, paper-mache jewelry in bold colors would have made this. I think a big, broad bracelet and ? earrings?

      • tonibaloney

Rock some The Nanny style? I smell what you’re stepping in…

    • Paige @ LPD

That zig zag stitch makes this look cheap.

    • Joe Schmartin

      Holy see-through crotch panel, Batman!

    • annabelle archer

For a Fashion Girl, such as she has worked hard to make the impression of being, this is not so hot. If a little known TV actress had worn this, I wouldn’t bother to learn her name.

    • sweet_potato

I like the dress but not on Chloe, it’s too mature for her. That zig zag stitch is hella tacky, it’s all I can see.

    • Getoverit

Awful dress & shoes. Her hair and makeup look cute & age appropriate.

    • ThaliaMenninger

This is the only thing I’ve liked her in forever. She finally looks like she has a neck.

    • YoungSally

Gosh — is that dress made of neoprene? No wonder it fits like a glove — or scuba gear.

    • Adrianna Grężak

Kind of looks like she’s going through her awkward phase, because she does NOT look comfortable in this dress

    • Qitkat

Huh. It works. On a Project Runway level of clever dress.

    • Little_Olive

Sorry, but the whole thing is tragic to me. The hair and the makeup are terrible; the dress is not on the good side either. I have a feeling that she has not found her style yet, which explains why she gets it wrong most of the time.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Nice idea, but I don’t like it. She’s not old enough or curvy enough to wear it. It looks like it should be accompanied with a fake ID and breath spray.

    • Olivia

It looks like a cook book design from 1993.

    • marlie

I’m not thrilled with it. It’s too mature for her, it’s a skosh too tight, and it’s also a little boring. And I’m not loving that hair color OR the washed-out makeup.

    • Danielle

Not a fan of this dress.

    • kimmeister

Off-the-shoulder only works on people with narrow shoulders. It also NEVER works with the arms akimbo pose.

    • kim bunchalastnames

      very chic.

    • Super_Red

I really dig this dress and holy crap she’s lovely when she smiles. Thank GOD she stopped doing duck face.

    • Fred Vaughn

CGM proves that we all look that small bit better when we smile. The dress is all kinds of nouveau-downtown street sign, but it also gives all kinds of life!

    • Imasewsure

I like it a lot. I just think the hair is a bit mature but then again I think it makes sense for her to differentiate herself a bit from the teeny teens

    • teensmom99

I think this is a personal best for her. And of course, if 10 is the new 12 then 16 is the new 25. These days, they sell more sophisticated dresses than this in size 6x.

    • Nancer

This dress is too old for her.

    • Truthiness2U

I like the dress, think it looks cute on her, and appropriate for the event. Though I may be liking it more than I normally would have, given how bad the rest of the fashion was at this thing.

    • quiltrx

The dress is definitely a Monet (in the Clueless sense). From a distance I love it. But the devil is in the details up close.
      She looks really cute, though!
