Amber Heard in Vionnet at the “Paranoia” LA Premiere

Posted on August 09, 2013

Between this and the Michael Kors getup the other day, we’re giving this gal a lot of credit for making some interesting choices for herself.

Amber Heard attends the premiere of “Paranoia” in Los Angeles, Califonia in a Vionnet dress accessorized with David Yurman jewelry.

Vionnet Spring 2012 Collection/Model: Julia Frauche (NATHALIE)

It’s a head-turner. Of course, that’s not always a compliment. In this case, we’re half and half. We appreciate that it’s unusual and bold. We like the graphic quality of the skirt and the draping of that lovely light blue. But this is crazy-overworked and needs some real editing to get it to baseline elegant. Parts of it look sloppily tied together. And the shape’s weird. Sorry, Amber. We tried.

And is it us, or is she totally serving up Wilma Flintstone with that hair?

This girl surely knows how to catch attention! I agree it’s a headturning look, but in a good way. It looks better on her than on the model, but she should have sticked to the short version IMO. Her hair is terrible but with such a beautiful face with a soft make up it’s not that awful. I’m looking forward to what’s coming next from her ;)

    • Getoverit

From the waist up it looks fabulous, not so much from the waist down. I agree, she probably woulda rocked the short version.

  • flamingoNW

Weird dress. I like it in concept but not reality…. Hair is too messy. Have to admit a strong dislike of the actress herself….

    • largishbearishAtlish

Project Runway, the grade school edition?

    • Nelliebelle1197

You know, for some reason, since she is suddenly not a lesbian and appears to be the other woman is in elderly lesbian windchime break up, I hate her, too.

  • Meg0GayGuys6

I think that neckline/collar/whateverthatscalled, plus the blue, plus the hair, definitely equals a Wilma vibe.

I’d take that eh Micheal Kors number over this, any day.

  • hughman

“No no no, I used the bow ties in the neck ring and to edge the halter top. WHY CAN’T YOU JUST GIVE ME SOME CRITICISM I NEED!! GOOD. BYE.”

    • demidaemon

      “VOICE. MAKE. DOWN!”

  • frannyprof

    Interesting? Maybe. Ugly? Absofreakinlutely.

  • SewingSiren

THe blue dress should only be worn if you can manage to be followed by the yellow and blue cartoon butterflies as envisioned by the designer. I do not understand the black underskirt. Is that a pixelated horse pelvis bone?

  • Kimbolina

Weird dress. Though I do think it looks better with the underskirt, instead of the droopy diaper effect in the model shot…

Frankendress with a splash of side boob. No thanks. I do like the makeup though.

  • MilaXX

That is an ugly, overworked dress.

  • alyce1213

Why is white fabric coming out at her back? I don’t get this dress (these dresses) at all.

    • barbarienne

Mashup? Or is she wearing two dresses, one on top of the other?

      • alyce1213

I can’t tell what this is.

      • tereliz

I think it’s two dresses. Why else would there be so much black fabric showing so unevenly beneath the collar of the blue? DO. NOT. WANT.

  • FrigidDiva

What is she looking up at in these pictures? Audrina Patridge does the same looking up thing in almost every picture I’ve ever seen of her. It just makes stabby.

    • kim bunchalastnames

mk (dlisted) calls her (audrina) “ceiling eyes”! (haha)

      • decormaven

        Nailed it!

    • alyce1213

      My cat does that too.

  • kim bunchalastnames

i’d love to see her in something sea green or celadon. or maybe orange. lol. something to bring out the color of her eyes. she’s really stunning.

  • marlie

There’s a little too much going on, but I sort of love this. It’s interesting, I like the graphic elements, and the blue is really pretty. Remove a couple of elements – especially in the back – and we might have a “werq!”

  • Imasewsure

    WIL-MA!! Definitely

  • appliquer

Don’t care for the dress, but her hair (yes) and makeup are beautiful!

  • Tatiana Luján

I hate the baby blue draping, but her makeup is lovely and her face looks much better with an updo.

  • Valdri8

  • sagecreek

Oh, dear. I so rarely use the term “scroll-down fug”, but sometimes, if the shoe fits…

  • decormaven

The bodice has some fit issues, so I’m not a fan of this look. Also, the hair is too, too messy for my taste.

  • amber.

    no.

  • mlle

I like the model’s version of the dress better. This one looks like an unholy combination of Wilma Flintstone and Cinderella.

  • JauntyJohn

    wtf
we’ve got a neck thing going on, and a drape thing, and a hip thing, and apparently her left leg is downloading into the Matrix.
    No.
Also: Next time you take your convertible to the event please put the top up. Those aren’t wisps, that’s Hair Interrupted.

  • oatmealpie

    More like Wilma Frizzstone!

  • TSkot

Ugliest dress of the year candidate.

  • tereliz

Um. It’s two dresses with a similar neckline, blue one layered on top of the B&W one, right? I can’t see any other explanation for this monstrosity.

  • Jen

This kind of looks like my middle school attempts to layer clothes and be fashionable… only far more expensive.

  • Dagney

    Her makeup is positively stunning.

  • Laylalola

I don’t understand how it can have way too much fabric up front over her breasts and yet we still get side boob.

  • bertkeeter

    Atrocious! End of story!

  • Lesley

queen b of the sorority holding the annual toga party

  • largishbearishAtlish

Oh god, from the front it looks like a light blue snake barfing up an ugly dress… then from the back it looks like 3 dress racks crashed on whatever NYC street dress racks go whizzing by on…

  • guest2visits

I didn’t really like her last dress and I don’t really like this one either. She does make a few blue bed sheets look good though.

  • HVM

Her hair is so hiddy I can’t focus on anything else. What is going on there??

  • jmorino08

Her face is amazing. But that is one serious Frankendress. And I liked it better in the length the model is wearing.

Also, the model’s face is hilariously awesome! That’s epic 5-year-old girl pouting right there! “I *hate* butterflies!”

  • SorayaS

Ugh I would not leave the house with that hair for anything!

The dress is interesting in theory but unflattering and too busy in person.

Stop it with the ceiling eyes!

  • quiltrx

NO–Wilma’s hair was always smoothly coiffed. This looks like a ride in a convertible.
And exactly how many dresses does she have on here? This is bizarre.

  • Beverly Kozma

The designers have run out of ideas, at least all the good ideas.

  • RuthGo

I agree with TLo exactly. Huge props for an interesting dress and I also love the design on the underskirt but I don’t like the combination of the two dresses. And I find the little bit of black and white on either side of her boobs bizarre.

  • formerlyAnon

I LOVE the long version of this, aside from the hair, she looks great.
The short version is just another unflatteringly draped dress which ignores the fact that most women don’t want to give the illusion their hips are larger than they in fact are.

  • Danielle

    Love the hair and makeup.
