Adam Driver on the Set of “Girls”

Posted on August 30, 2013

Let’s kick off this Sausage Friday with a boy who can really work the classic white-t-and-jeans look.

Adam Driver on the set of “Girls” in Manhattan, NYC.

Honestly, we think he’s one of the best things about the show – and not because he has such spectacular tits. Regardless of what we might think about Lena Dunham’s other talents, she does a shockingly good job of writing young men. And Adam gives an amazingly nuanced and charismatic performance.

We shouldn’t say “shockingly.” Of course a writer should be expected to convey both genders well, regardless of which one they happen to be, but Dunham is widely lauded (whether one agrees that she deserves it or not) for her writing about (and arguably for) women. We get why she is (her show is called Girls, after all), but we think it does a slight disservice to her. If she’s to be called a good writer, then she’s a good writer; not a good lady writer.

And speaking of Adam’s tits…

If you’re a fan of them, you might want to pick up the September issue of Vogue, where he’s featured in an Annie Leibovitz-shot editorial titled “Wild Irish Rose.” Or you could click here. It makes no difference to us.

Shirtless goat-handling. A fine quality in a man.

An unconventionally attractive slice. Nice. I like his face.

  • decormaven

Was questioning this lead-in to SF until the Vogue shot. Thank you!

    • Danielle

Took the words right out of my mouth.

  • mlle

I’m so happy that they didn’t photoshop all the distinctiveness out of his face in that editorial.

  • RussellH88

This may be the first time I’ve seen a man complimented on his “tits”.

    • Rand Ortega

It’s the 21st century, my friend. No body part is w/out critique in the digital age…

    • Kimmu

I shouldn’t have laughed but it’s such a common thing to say about guys among my group of friends I forget it’s probably not all that common

  • Sobaika

I only watched the first season of Girls, but he was easily the most (the only?) well-developed and engaging character. Not sure if it has to do with his abilities or the writing, but likely both.

  • Glam Dixie

Don’t watch the show, don’t know who he is, but he fills out the jeans and t nicely. He looks like he’s on the set of Vikings in that second shot (which is a good thing).

  • Latin Buddy

I think it’s a combination of great writing AND great acting. He and Ray have blown me away with their performance. Neither are “traditionally” handsome men but they command attention on screen. That other guy Charlie is better looking BUT he’s just so bland. Guess Ms. Dunham agrees (he’s no longer on the show for other reasons).

    • sekushinonyanko

He seems to have thrown a fit about his character. WAH! I am not even the third most interesting man on a show with three recurring males! FLOUNCE!

  • VioletFem

He loos better with shorter hair.

  • gabbilevy

I don’t watch girls, but I did enjoy that Vogue editorial. Especially how literary it is.

  • foodycatAlicia

He looks a lot like a friend of mine.

  • Lori

That’s a sheep, right? (Way to totally miss the point Lori.)

    • Fordzo

Yes, its a sheep. Goats have hair, sheep have wooly pelts.

  • marlie

I can’t stand ‘Girls,’ but he’s a really striking guy. Not handsome, per se, but it’s hard to NOT be drawn to him.

  • annabelle archer

    He’s intense. I like that.

  • Solfish

Agree, agree and agree some more with everything in this post. Love Adam Driver and he is one of the best things about that show. Thanks for featuring him!

  • thecitysleeps

God I find him so attractive it hurts (in my loins). And he has such an interesting face. He’s one of the best things about the show for sure. Both the character and his actor choices are so compelling. I was so happy when he got nommed for an Emmy.

    • TerryMH

Totally agree. He’s got charisma on the screen and in print (that Vogue spread is to die for!) There’s something dangerous and unpredictable about his performance on Girls…almost like Marlon Brando in a way . . .

  • Tanya Wade

When I saw that Vogue spread, I nearly plotzed. For all your D.H. Lawrence fantasies…

  • MartyBellerMask

I’ve never seen this show, but he really did an amazing job with his one scene in “Lincoln”. He’s got my attention.

  • vahtel

    Ugly hot.

    • Kiltdntiltd

As they say in French, Jolie’ Laid!

  • JauntyJohn

When a man has shoulders that exist in separate zip codes I can’t help but sit up and pay attention.

  • boweryboy

His body is slammin’ but damn is he unattractive.

  • Kiltdntiltd

Just for the record, that ain’t no “boy”, that’s a man.

  • Adrianna Grężak

“…a boy who can really work the classic white-t-and-jeans look.”

I’m sure you guys know this, but his Gap ads are all over NYC

  • SewingSiren

Baa baa black sheep take off your pants.

  • boweryboy

His body is slammin’ but damn is he unattractive. Good actor though.

I agree that Dunham is good at writing male characters. The episode of Girls where Ray and Adam travel to Staten Island to return the dog is one of my favorites.

  • Tom and Lorenzo

This rule seems to always mysteriously get forgotten by the Bitter Kittens when we’re talking about men, but leave the body-snarking and negative physical assessments out of your comments, please.

  • ajhan

I know Adam Driver isn’t ACTUALLY Adam from Girls, but it still feels so, so weird to me to see Adam from Girls starring in Gap ads and Vogue spreads.

    • HM3

True. Also: I like your profile icon.

      • ajhan

Ha! Right back at ya, Jane.

        • kathrineb

Is it weird that I am hearing Brittany’s voice when I read your comments? :-) la la la la la

          • sekushinonyanko

Now that you wrote that, I do too!

          • kathrineb

            It’s catching haha

  • frannyprof

I would totally like the sweat off those tits. Even if they were covered in goat hair.

  • Dan_In_NYC

He’s definitely one of those the sum is greater than the parts – although some of those parts (hello pecs!) are pretty outstanding. He’s swoon worthy in that not-too-Hollywood-pretty way.

  • Diego!

    It’s #SaussageFriday everyone! And it shows! 😛

  • Beth513

That editorial has really kicked off my sausage friday with a bang!

  • MilaXX

yeah, this one’s not working for me? What else ya’ got?

  • Belvane

Love him. That rescue scene at the end of Girls’ last season was the most romantic thing I’ve seen on TV in eons. And now posing with a sheep in Ireland? I’m a happy girl. Thanks, TLo!

  • Sadie-Ann

I like it. He’s got that sort of Adrien Brody different handsome thing going on.

  • shanna bowie

TLo is so right about Lena writing boys well. I love the boys of Girls and if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t watch because the girls are horrid.

  • Rand Ortega

    Gilligan w/ a goatee. Sorry. That’s all I see.

    • formerlyAnon

Well. Way to spread the joy, Mr. Ortega. Now that’s what *I* see!

      • Rand Ortega

        Oops! LOL

    • annabelle archer

And muscles. Don’t forget the muscles.

  • Filmjen

Lena writes about her 20’s like she is a 40 something looking back on them. The Staten Island episode was one of the many sad, hilarious and uncomfortably real moments of the series. It’s embarrassing to think of a time when we could have thought this: “Well, now, no one really cares if I clean it up myself. No one really cares if I get cut with glass. If I break something no one says, ‘Let me take care of that. ” The women in her show can be very unlikable, self involved and self pitying, but they are brutally honest. In short, I agree. She’s a great writer–not just a great “girl” writer.

  • SuzBald

I agree about Adam – he’s maybe the best actor on the show. Also – shirtless a lot, which is just fine.

  • Imasewsure

WTF with the goat Ms. L? I’m seriously iffy on most of her photos but luckily the pretty man is enough to make the shot work

  • Darcy H

“Shirtless goat-handling. A fine quality in a man.”

Aaaaand there’s the point where I nearly spit tea all over the quizzes I’m grading.

  • formerlyAnon

Texas Tornados! Party down in the 98 degree heat!

    • SewingSiren

      de nada

  • andreawey

I do watch girls and I like it, even though it’s a bit uncomfortably self aware sometimes, Adam is one of the best characters and damn cute!

  • Qitkat

Oh My God, that’s a gorgeous editorial. I wonder where in Ireland it was filmed. I’ll be on the next plane. And of course, Adam and Daria will still be romantically romping over hill and dale, amongst the craggy rocks and gnarly trees, and beside the sea, won’t they?

But I just will not watch Girls.

  • Vivi N

Adam is my favorite character of the show after Shoshanna. And I, too, was ecstatic that Adam (the actor) was nominated for an Emmy. Rightly deserving.

There’s just something about Adam (the actor) that gets to me. He has it.

  • yethica

I was about to say that I don’t get why everyone thinks he’s so hot, but I looked at the Vogue spreads, and I get it now. Still not my cup of tea, but I get it.

    • conniemd

Oh yeah. I don’t watch “Girls” so my reaction to the white T and jeans was “OMG it’s Maynard G. Krebbs.” But the I love the goat pic.

  • Fordzo

    I’ve never wished I was a sheep before…

  • Vera

As a working class, middle aged, Southern black woman, society says i’m not supposed to relate to Girls, but I do. Durham’s writing is genius.

That sheep herding photo is great!

    • Fordzo

Do you think his face/head looks ‘shopped on, though? I do.

      • sekushinonyanko

I know that is DEFINITELY his bod. I watch girls and he’s permanently shirtless.

        • Fordzo

I know it’s his body, but doesn’t his head looks weird to anyone else? Maybe they photoshopped on the sheep.
