WERQ: Helen Mirren in Elie Saab at the “Red 2″ Premiere

Posted on July 12, 2013

The Senior Class rocked the SHIT out of this red carpet, didn’t they?

Helen Mirren attends the premiere of “Red 2″ in Los Angeles in an Elie Saab dress paired with an Eie Saab clutch and David Webb jewelry.

Perfection + stripper heels. Darlings, what is left to be said?

Bow down, peasants. Queen Helen of the Island Nation of Fuckinfantastica demands your obeisance.

      bowing the fuck down.

      • drdarke

        All Hail Queen Helen!

Awesome – just awesome. And I love the Grande Dame Being Naughty touch of stripper heels under that gown….

    • ChiKat67

I worship at the alter of the Queen!

    • WendyD

      *GENUFLECTS*

    • MoHub

The queen rules again! But I do question those shoes. She could do so much better and more comfortable.

      • Heather

I find her shoes fun… also, the dress would be much too long without them.

        • gabbilevy

I’m imagining a chaotic scene at in the dressing area at Fuckinfantastica when she tried on this dress the morning of the premiere and it was way too long and way too close to the event to have it hemmed.

AIDE: Your Majesty, this dress is divine, but far, far too long!

QUEEN HELEN: “Get thee to a stripper store! I must wear this dress, and normal heels will just NOT do!”

EXUENT, Aides, running backwards out the door while genuflecting.

          • homofascist

“Get thee to a stripper store! I must wear this dress, and normal heels will just NOT do!” wins the internet for this week. Thank you. And seriously, if you make t-shirts I will be your first customer.

          • Just Me

She had here Aide dig those shoes out of the back of her closet and dared the room, with a flick of her eyebrow, to say shit about it. The Queen does not explain. Ever.

          • editrixie

That’s probably exactly what she did! She mentioned in an interview that she loves stripper heels because she’s short and they make your legs look longer — she often buys them at Frederick’s of Hollywood!

        • MoHub

I think the shoes look like fun, but they also look extremely uncomfortable, and Her Majesty has earned the right to wear comfortable footwear.

          • SpillinTea

Not that I know this from personal experience…but stripper heels are actually very comfortable if you get the right size. Much more than you’d think. ;)

          • H2olovngrl

I think if anyone else were wearing those shoes, all of us kittens would flip the fuck out. But as we all know, Queen Helen can do know wrong, and so, on her, we find them adorably cheeky and witty.

      • Vanessa

She’s just having fun. At her age she knows she would get endless amounts of s**t if she dressed the way she feels in her heart–like she’s 23 years old and at risk of taking her clothes off in public at any moment!

        • drdarke

And banging her husband in their theatre seats during the movie, Vanessa !

Taylor Hackford must sometimes just stop and go, “I’m a lucky man….”

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I think we are seeing some visible foundation garments in and around that keyhole, which is unfortunate.

      • Guest

Those shoes are a HUGE needle scratch for me. The dress is so perfect the shoes almost don’t matter, though.

      • kim bunchalastnames

HAHAHAHHAH. mk will LOVE those shoes. i’ll forgive her anything, especially since pairing that pale coral with the dress in her earrings and bracelet was just GENIUS.

        • kim bunchalastnames

p.s. i REALLY want her to play SOMEONE in “game of thrones.” who could she be? (POSSIBLE SPOILER) the septa that travels down the rhoyne with the group on the riverboat?

          • kim bunchalastnames

off topic kind of, i know, i’m sorry.

    • Perditax

The only person I’ve ever seen who can make me go ‘ooh’ instead of ‘ugh’ at stripper heels!

    • Chuck Barthelme

Kind of sad she ditched the silver hair. She looked pretty awesome with natural hair color.

      • not_Bridget

How do you know the silver was “natural”? I had light brown hair; the white hairs began to appear rather early. The resulting shade was not gray–but dull beige. Now it’s lighter beige. Or would be if I let nature take its course. The only way I could get silver hair would involve bleach & toner…..

        • Chuck Barthelme

Good point. I guess I don’t. Either way, the silver fox look really worked for her. I also fully respect her changing the color at whim. To each their own.

    • lexilexi

This is the most flattering dress ever! Good werq Queen Helen!

    • majorbedhead

On anyone else, I would be cursing those shoes, but on her, I just think they look cheeky.

*curtseys deeply, falls over, slinks off in embarrassment*

    • CB

In the immortal words of Liz Lemon, “IS SHE A WIZARD?!”

    • carnush

      Gorgeous color.

      • AudreysMom

Yes it is. The blue the model is sporting reminds me of Sleeping Beauty’s gown in the 1959 animated Disney version (sans gold tiara).

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

1st time stripper hills look good! Love it! She’s No. 1!

      • MilaXX

Six inch stripper heels at that.

    • MsKitty

      Speechless. I’m so not worthy.

    • MilaXX

showing the young’uns how it’s done!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Straight up stripper heels. God bless this cheeky old broad.

      • StellaZafella

They go with her character (In Red 1): “What do I do? Why, I kill people, dear.”
There’s more than one way to be a “Dame” of the Empire.

    • Scimommy

I want to go to there…

    • Ashley Ellen Wilson

THIS is elegance. THIS is class.

    • Tamara Hogan

Pardon me. I’m…a little verklempt. F’n awesome.

    • Charlotte

      Stunning dress. Stunning woman.

    • Jennifer Bober

She is freakin’ amazing. I could never walk in those heels and never look that good in that spectacular dress. Wow! I bow down to the queen!

    • Stella Zawistowski

She is so fabulous that I can even forgive her stealing Taylor Momsen’s shoes.

      • Julie Parr

What happened to Taylor Momsen? Haven’t seen her on the internet in ages!

        • Stella Zawistowski

No idea. But I will never, never forget those Lucite heels with a hole in the side marked “Tips.”

          • Julie Parr

            Haha! I remember those too.

    • housefulofboys

Fabulosity defined!! And my jaw dropped when I saw the stripper shoes…wow.

    • Melanie

Jesus H. I can’t even be mad at the shoes. She is perfection. That wrap on her waist is doing ridiculous things for her body.

    • Glam Dixie

Wow, those shoes are quite the needle scratch, but man she looks great when you can’t see them.

      • MoHub

The heels don’t even bother me as much as the sky-high platforms in the front. That gorgeous gown, but I can’t imagine even Queen Helen walking in those shoes without clomping like a plow horse.

    • Beardslee

From the ankles up, she is perfection.

      • AudreysMom

as someone with a decade or so of Queen Helen’s age, I feel that it’s simply worth noting that aging hands aren’t a felt perfection, though an accepted part of one’s body. We can’t tighten our hands like we can our faces, necks, perk up our boobs or spanks our hips. I see her gorgeous face and that yoga-trimmed and garment aided body, yet her hands are a dead giveaway that Queen Helen is a member of the senior set.

    • Liz

Only the queen of fuckingfantastica can make stripper heels look fierce. Bowing down.

    • Snailstsichr

Love the earrings – especially with this hair style, which really sets them off.

    • SugarSnap108

I actually recoiled at the shot revealing the shoes. But I like to think she’s wearing them in a tongue-in-cheek, “I am a goddess, with just a dash of stripper underneath” kind of way. Because come on, she is a goddess.

    • Janet B

A WERQ, but those shoes are hilarious.

      Brava.

    • MikeW_Vegas

I think she looks fantastic.. And I also love how she always looks like she’s just thought of the most delicious dirty joke to share with us.

    • capybara_cafe

*grovels at her feet* I want to be her when I grow up.

    • veleri

love the dress. I cannot really say I love the courtney stodden heels, however I really do want to look and be like Queen Hellen one day.

    • teensmom99

Bowing down and glad she’s left the Grandmotherly Gucci phase behind. Her royal subjects knew she would.

    • Diego!

This is a perfect WERQ! Love the DragQueen shoes! hahaha Nice touch!

    • Anne At Large

Holy God I swear I will cut a bitch for those earrings and that bracelet. But not Queen Helen. Never Queen Helen

    • Nan

      We are not worthy.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Not in love with the fruit loop earrings, but that dress is absolutely divine — as is she.

    • decormaven

I almost wish she’d picked the smoky blue color- but with her hair color and those coral jewelry accents, she is rocking this green. And those heels- you know she is having a good laugh and going, “Ha ha, kiddies, this ol’ gal can still kick it.”

    • ChaquitaPhilly

      WOW!
      LOVE IT!!!

    • julnyes

She can get away with something that would cause my head to explode on someone else. I am also thrilled she is out of that darn open toe shoes with hose phase. I think her bra is not fully doing its duty, but these are quibbles because she looks gorgeous.

    • Belvane

I don’t know… I worship her, like all sensible people do, but there’s a lot here I don’t like. The jewelry and clutch look a bit cheap and tacky. A bracelet on top of a long sleeve feels hot and messy. The dress color isn’t doing her any favors — that blue would have been divine. And the shoes? Just….. no. Yes, they are funny, and I love that she’s funny, but…. no.

    • ashtangajunkie

Holy smokes. That’s a whole lot of hotness to take in before noon.

    • berkeleygirl

These pictures should be sent to every single actress – hell, woman – who’s thinking about plastic surgery. Her Royal Highness is a textbook example of the beauty – on so many levels – of keeping your body in shape and just living a fantastic life. When I look at her close-up, I don’t see age, I see joy.

    • AmeliaEve

Genius. And she is NOT wearing black tights for a change.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

She is simply a stunning woman. I’m probably close to her age, and I just don’t look like that. Yet, I can’t dislike her. She represents aging women so well. What a beauty with elegance and style. Oh, the fashion here? The dress is beautiful on her. The color is exquisite.

I think she wore the shoes to gain height because the dress is so long. There’s no reasonable explanation for wearing plastic shoes.

    • KayEmWhy

She’s rockin’ those shoes and the dress is fantastic! All Hale the Queen!

    • Nichole

      don’t you think it’s a bit fall/winter for July?

    • Vanja

I’m on my knees with my forehead touching the the ground.

I like the green, but I love the blue version the model is wearing.

    • Ashleigh

better than the [20 year old waify] model

    • jen

      She is my hero.

    • paintedfish

I just emitted a George Takei “oh my” when I got to those lucite heels!

      • MoHub

        That’s “Oh myyy.”

    • marlie

LOVE. THIS. She looks FABULOUS. And I can’t even be mad about the shoes; Queen Helen can do whatever she wants, and it’s fine by me.

    • Danielle L

SHUTTING IT DOWN. Can I pay her to be my grandmother for a day?

    • Pennymac

Those shoes say “I am the queen of Fuckinfantastica and I do what I want, puny mortals.” She is an epic badass.

    • Julie Chase

I won’t sign off on the heels, for the love of GOD NO, but in every other aspect she is glorious.

    • Kathleen

      Stunning. And cheeky.

      J’adore.

    • GorgeousThings

      Love. Huh!

    • bertkeeter

Love the dress…The “gurls” could use a little lift…bra maybe? No on those silly shoes!

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      We gratefully give obeisance

    • Lori

She doesn’t have to demand my obeisance. I give it fully voluntarily.

      • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

What you said. Face on the ground!

        • Shawn EH

Can I get you anything, Ms. Mirren? Kill someone for you? Just name it!

    • maggiemaybe

      I’m bowing… and I can’t get up!

    • Isabel

LadyStars past 45 – this is how you do it! Learn

      • SignLadyB

LadyStars past 45? Pshaw!!! ALL LadyStars–THIS HOW YOU DO! Thanks Isabel.

    • Frank_821

Oh I disagree on 1 point. Fuckinfantastica cannot be a mere island nation. It has to be a kingdom in the sky!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Love the color combination of a teal dress with coral jewelry…she looks fab.

    • Shawn EH

Is that jewelry coral or jade? Either way, perfection with that dress!

    • IMNAngryLiberal

You know, I would say that I hoped to look as good as Dame Helen when I’m her age — but then I realize that I have never ever looked that good :)

    • BrooklynBomber

I’m more neutral about her than most seem to be, and to my eye Elie Saab sometimes veers toward Marchesa territory. But this cannot be denied: Fuckinfantastica indeed! A strong personal best, crazy shoes and all.

    • Qitkat

Such a beautiful, flattering color and shape on her. I love that figure-flattering cross-over at the waistline. Maybe this is a style that would work on larger women as well. And Queen Helen, if you can comfortably wear shoes like this, wowsa! Though your tootsies look a little squeezed there sweetie.

    • JP

I think it looks better on Queen Helen than the model!

    • mommyca

So amazing! and those heels left me speechless! so unexpected yet fabulous!

    • LuisaNL

      love the naughty shoes!

    • Trisha26

What, no live goldfish swimming in those platforms? Fie! LOVE HER!!!!!

    • Not applicable

A woman her age— wearing a dress like that, and OWNING IT! Wow- i will just bow and scrape the rest of the day. All hail Queen Helen!

    • filmcricket

Really hate the jewelry. She looks like she raided a shrimp cocktail for her bling. Partly it’s how the pieces are clashing with all the red surrounding her, but shouldn’t have have been a given for this particular premiere?

Otherwise, she looks amazing as usual. Looooove both versions of the dress.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Helen Mirren is EVERYTHING- and completely supports why I rock with Elie Saab in every way. Not innovative, but will make you look like a STAR every single time. The Coral and gold is exactly what that dress needed.

      • formerlyAnon

EXACTLY my thoughts on the designer choice. I can understand that some celebs just can’t figure out or pull off fashion-forward, but when you are A-list red carpet material, you ought to be able to find clothes that make you look fantastic – or as close to that as you genes allow.

    • AshBookworm

      She looks sensational!

    • formerlyAnon

God damn. She’s wearing it beautifully and she’s looking beautiful in it.

    • Contralto

      BTFD™ (bowing the etc. etc.)

    • jessie

Christ on a cracker. That body.

    • Lola Channing

She’s awesome. Too bad the movie is crap.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

How the shit is she pulling off lucite stripper heels? She wins, forever.

    • Rand Ortega

Even strippers can’t make stripper heels look hot like Queen Helen. She truly is a force of nature.

    • appliquer

So beautiful. Please, however, lose the shoes.

    • MoHub

Just took a look at IMDb and found out her real name is Ilyena Lydia Vasilievna Mironoff. She’s no queen; she’s a czarina! An empress!

    • MaggieMae

Insanely flattering. I want to be her or do her! lol

      • drdarke

        Can’t we do both, @c8ef2e6cb21404f250f90289eab6f0e4:disqus ?

    • LaSylphide

Thank heaven she isn’t wearing black. This color is incredibly flattering. Love the awful shoes; she can make anything look like fun.

    • Joanne Abrams

Helen really rocked it out of the park! Love her tattoo on her hand, looks like a fairy? Divine inspiration for us ladies in their 60’s.

    • clairellis

First of all the fact that she is clearly pulling off the stripper heals with that amazing dress means she is the fucking queen of everything.

      • Toby Wollin

Actually, I’m thinking that part of the reason she’s wearing those shoes is because the dress is soooo long. It’s a great dress and probably she wants to appear taller, but if she were not wearing those shoes, she’d probably be tripping over the hem of that dress. On the other side, however, I have lit another candle at my St. Helen of the Amazing Style alter in my closet.

    • Tracy_Flick

She’s gorgeous. That’s a look that could work on a 20-year-old Disney alum as well as a mature actress. Amazing.

I fucking hate those shoes though.

    • Susannah

My mouth literally dropped open at those shoes. Bowing down, indeed.

    • flamingoNW

      Dang.

    • Dan_In_NYC

You know some gay pulled out those stripper heels to show her, she recoiled for the briefest moment and then said “Oh what the hell!” Get it, girl!

      • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Considering she used to buy stripper heels on purpose back in the day, it was probably more like her gays fretting because the dress was too long and there was just no time to hem all that fabric. Dame Helen pulled out the stripper heels, explaining “These will add at least six inches of height and, of course, clear goes with everything.” The poor beleaguered gays recoiled for an agonizingly long moment, then they finally took a deep breath and said “Oh, what the hell. Wear the stripper shoes. You’re Helen fucking Mirren.”

    • carolynmo

I love her so much. I just do.

    • Anne

*bows down* Great color on her, too.

    • traceyishere

      Sassy!!!

    • Jibs

A quote from Helen regarding the ‘why’ of the shoes:

“I used to buy [stripper shoes] on Hollywood Blvd. $39, they cost me. I always used to wear them to red carpet events when I was nominated for things, because they give you an immediate seven inches. You’re on the red carpet and there’s Nicole Kidman, who’s like up here, Christine Lahti’s up here and you’re this little midget running around in between them. So I had to have my secret weapon and now everyone’s got them.”

This was on the Leno show.

      *source: dlisted

      • Jibs

Look at me go calling her Helen. Not worthy.

    • Sonja Brisson

      She can do no wrong.

    • Anniebet

Holy cats on a raft, she’s giving me hope for my older years. She has it ALL, wrapped up into one delicious small woman.

PS Is it just me, or does that bracelet look like a large shrimp around her arm in that first pic? Hell, she could wear a real shrimp and still be Queen of Everything.

    • Fordzo

I love that color. Love, love, love. I don’t love the bracelet, though.

    • NoveltyRocker

This was the permission I needed to wear lucite, platform shoes not ironically. What a badass.

    • Joyce VG

I am so in love with her.

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

God damn it, Courtney Stodden, if Helen mirren shows up at her next red carpet wearing a cheap snake armband, I’m coming after you (and your little Doug too).

    • Lilithcat

The shoes suck big time. But not enough to make this un-WERQ.

    • Deenice

This is how you do it ladies!!!!!! Her “I still got it” are those shoes. Which I don’t mind since they are hidden by the length of the dress. Her earrings remind me of Fruit Loops. Mere quibble that does not deflect from her WERQ!!!

    • Nonmercisansfacon

Fabulous woman. I automatically bow down when I see pictures of her now.

    • quiltrx

Queen Helen KNEW it was Sausage Friday, and she needed to SHUT.IT.DOWN. to get her props and snaps up. And she sho’ ’nuff did!
I’m kind of sad there aren’t plastic goldfish in the shoes, though.

    • Reality TV Casting

my eyes are not worthy of her glory

    • Rebecca Jay

I bowed down, appropriately, until I got to those shoes. Then I fell over in a fit of laughter. Shouldn’t there be some dollar bills, or fish, in those bottoms?
Then I see the next picture – the expression, the pose – and I get it.

    • rougeort

      Woman is FLAWLESS. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Is it sad I had to sing the song in my head for full effect as I typed that out? :)

    • frannyprof

      Amazing. LOVE the accessories.

    • wanderlustlive

Just LOVE this look on her!

    • judybrowni

      I bow down.

    • VicD

      Eat my magnificent dust, bitches!!

    • librarygrrl64

HATE the shoes. Lucite always reads cheap when used in a stripper heel. HOWEVER, the rest is such sheer perfection (color, silhouette, fit, accessorizing, styling) that I fully approve your WERQ.

    • SophieCollier

That dress is ta die foah!

    • HobbitGirl

Can I get an amen? She is so fabulous.

    • DesertDweller79

I saw the shoes and actually muttered out loud, “Wow, girl, really?” Ah well. She always looks like she is having fun, and I guess that outweighs some seriously uncomfortable shoes. And I like her jewelry a lot.

    • pop_top

I love this woman. Rock those heels.
