WERQ: Bruce Willis in Dolce&Gabbana at the “Red 2″ Premiere

Posted on July 12, 2013

Seriously:

Bruce Willis attends the premiere of “Red 2″ at Westwood Village in Los Angeles in a Dolce&Gabbana white linen suit.

Dolce&Gabbana Spring 2014 Collection

If a crusty old action star whose entire image is bound up in masculinity tropes can hit the red carpet looking this finely put together, there isn’t a boystar in the world who has an excuse for not doing so.

Boystars: you are PUT ON NOTICE. You are expected to Willis it the Fuck UP* the next time you’re poledancing for a movie or we’re going to use our secret gay powers to belittle and emasculate you publicly.

You WERQ that (very trendy at the mo) summer white, Bruce. We’re impressed (although truth be told, we would have gone with grey or white shoes).

Oh! One more thing, boys. If you insist on wearing a jacket and collared shirt without a tie, then this is how your collar’s supposed to look (standing up straight, kept in place by the lapels; not spreading out all over your chest). Make a note of it.

Jeez. We’re using Bruce Willis, of all people, to teach young boystars how to dress. It’s Bizarro Day.

*Actual fashion term. Now, anyway.

I might be showing my age, but: Perfection!!!!

      • Lucía Gavello

        He is ageless!

PS: I wonder if he stood in front of the mirror and said to himself “You are a… neat guy”.

        • http://megbonbon.blogspot.com megbon

I predict that this comment will be my favorite thing I read on the internet today.

        • hailtree

          he’s just a love machine.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It certainly helps that that suit has been tailored to him to per-feck-shun. One misstep and it would have crashed and burned.

      • formerlyAnon

Ya gotta respect people who have money who actually use it to good effect. Once you’re a bankable name, anything you might be photographed in ought to fit properly.

        • drdarke

You don’t even need that, @formerlyAnon:disqus – you just need “Once you have the money to have your sports coats and slacks tailored….”

Snaps to Willis for this! Actually, the brown shoes work fine – White shoes might have been a bit…much with this look, and black shoes are the too-obvious choice in this case.

          • formerlyAnon

You are a more stringent arbiter than I, but I cannot say you’re wrong.

            • drdarke

Geez, if I can do it, @formerlyAnon:disqus – and I’m a middle-aged bald out-of-shape married guy! Who Is Not Bruce Willis….

          • Little_Olive

            A bit lighter brown?

But really, THIS is a WERK of I ever saw one, because he is carrying one of the hardest items of clothing. I mean a werk in a classic tux doesn’t deserve capitals.

Even his teeth match the suit :p

          • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

            I agree. On all counts.
White shoes would have been too Love Boat and black shoes would have been too Fantasy Island.

            • quiltrx

I think you have most perfectly summed the shoe thing up!

          • librarygrrl64

Agreed. I think white shoes would have been too Sidney Greenstreet or Good Humor man. I would have liked a lighter shade of brown.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Marvelous. thanks, Bruce (& Thanks T&L for posting it.

      • Rhonda Shore

        DITTO! So cool and crisp!!!

    • amanda d

The collar stay: so important yet so overlooked.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

I would have preferred a slightly higher collar with stays for 100% perfection.

    • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

Holy shit, the pocket square. THE POCKET SQUARE.

      *Slow clap, Mr. Willis.*

      • conniemd

Love pocket squares. Love em. This was even a slightly feminine looking one, but werqed.

      • H2olovngrl

I was scrolling down specifically looking for this to have been addressed. I am crazy about that blue lined handkerchief! SO well thought out and put together!

      • librarygrrl64

        LOVE. IT.

    • Clueless_Jock

      Magnificent.

    • Laura V Rizzo

his skin looks great too! not nearly as crusty and dry as some other actors his age.

      • decormaven

That was my first thought. His facialist gets extra snaps.

    • Conniepop

He looks better than the model!

      • WendyD

That model looks 12 and has no shoulders.

    • Annarosa

      yummy, happy Sausage Friday, everybody!

    • AwesomeMargie

      DAYUM!
A nice smile, with great teeth, also helps. I never understood movie stars with awful teeth. I’m looking at you Ethan Hawke and Keanu Reeves!

      • Meg0GayGuys6

I love a good set of teeth. For the best before/after of a teeth job, check out the actor (I think his name is Matthew Lewis) who played Neville from HP. It’s the most magnificent thing.

        • AwesomeMargie

YES! Neville Longbottom! If he can fix that grill on a child actor’s salary then surely these 2 can. Speaking of, hubba hubba at Matthew Lewis making out of puberty very nicely. :)

          • Meg0GayGuys6

            Very nicely indeed :)

        • Caitlin

They had him wear false teeth for the first few HP movies. So, not a true transformation, unfortunately

      • formerlyAnon

I have to admit that I think less-than-perfect teeth can be sexier than male model perfection. But there is a line beyond which they are, indeed, pointlessly unattractive.

        • Adriana_Paula

I second that. It’s one of the things I love about English actors actually; their approachable imperfections, teeth included.

        • Little_Olive

Tom Cruise’s are a great example.
And Hugh Grant, in the ever-so-orthodontically-challenged Brits.

I am actually not such a fan of PERFECT TEETH unless they are natural.

      • librarygrrl64

Ethan Hawke always looks like he smells bad in real life. Just saw Before Midnight this past week, and I really liked it, but I still don’t get his appeal beyond good acting.

    • sabbadoo32

Very nice. Excellent observation on the differences between men and boys’ dress. However, if everyone dressed well, how could we tell who was well-dressed?

    • Viviennne

      ho hum…..

    • lundibleu

Good lord, up is down and left is right. What the heck? That suit has been tailored perfectly for him, certainly more so than it was for the model! I am CONFUSED.

      • Kikishua

Indeed! Looking so much better than the model – who would have guessed!

    • VioletFem

I am very pleasantly surprised. Mr. Willis looks perfect in this outfit. A grey pair of shoes would probably work as well as the pair he is currently wearing but I’m not convinced a white pair would have been better for this outfit. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

    • lobsterlen

      And he shaved.

    • DuBey2

For some reason, I thought you guys were gonna criticize and that I would be the lone dissenter because I loved the white, and, just like with women, it doesn’t hurt to change your overall color profile when your hair, eyebrows, etc.get lighter (with age or any other reason) The color looks awesome on him. I have one question (for my hubbie’s sake, not that he’ll listen to me anyway): Would one wear socks w/those shoes to complete the look? And if so, what color?

      • MilaXX

I’d vote for light blue socks.

        • MoHub

And I’m thinking pearl grey shoes instead of the ones he’s wearing. But otherwise, it definitely deserves the WERQ.

          • MilaXX

I’d do a pair of two toned wingtips.

            • Pennymac

How awesome would those be? Two Shades of grey, perhaps? And I agree on the light blue socks.

            • SugarSnap108

Two shades of gray would be perfection, in my book.

            • MoHub

              What color combo?

    • suzanne77

      I am agog.

      • CommentsByKatie

I am aghast. Has Marius found love at last?

        • suzanne77

I think for this maybe “RED the blood of ages past!”

    • carnush

Good for him. Love the pocket square.

    • DinaSews

More reasons to love Bruce Willis! You work it Bruce!!

    • NBG

A WERQ from Bruce Willis. Well deserved but now I have seen everything. Someone better pay a bonus to the tailor because dayum, well done.

      • Deb_Lynn

“…now I have seen everything…” what a way to start of sausage Friday, hey? I’m not complaining; this is gorgeous. But I worry it’s all just depressingly downhill from here.

    • nannypoo

He has the perfect shirt and pocket square for this suit, although I agree that grey shoes would have been a better choice. I have always found him to be super hot and adorable, and these pictures confirm my opinion.

    • Tarquin

Facially – looking a bit like Jamie Lee Curtis

    • Funkykatt

Put Brad Pitt on notice too.

      • Monzerrat Ontiveros

        he needs a make over…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Unreal. Bruce Willis setting the fashion example. Wow!

    • MilaXX

and we’re off to a GREAT start! I ♥ Bruce so much, I’m thisclose to writing in all caps. I will happily see every action movie he is in. Dear Uncles T & Lo, I understand what you are saying about the gray shoes, but I like the brown on Bruce. I’m totally adding Willis it the F**k UP to my lexicon.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

Seriously – I did not even know I needed that phrase in my life but it fills a void immediately!!
        Willis it the F**k UP!!

        • MilaXX

I KNOW! It was a void I did not know I had.

      • MissMariRose

I’m with you. I’ve loved him since Moonlighting and he’s only gotten better and better.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

“Willis it the fuck up” applies to so many areas of life, not just fashion. The man is a living, breathing, bad ass.

      • Glam Dixie

It puts me too much in mind of Whatchu talkin bout Willis. I must scrub it from my mind so I can make the switch to the proper Willis-ism.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Just add his first name to it. Then everyone will know who you are talking about, too, when you use the phrase. “Bruce Willis it the F**k up!”

    • mjude

way to start Friday. he looks GREAT!

    • AmeliaEve

It took me a long time to appreciate Bruce Willis. He was way too cocky for me when he was younger, but now he retains just enough of that spark to pull off something like this. I think the shoes are perfect, too. They anchor the outfit not just with color, but because they are structured yet sporty. A lighter cognac or saddle tan color would have worked as well, but I think white would have simply been too twee for Mr. Willis.

      • MilaXX

I loved his cockiness. I have honestly adored Mr. WIllis since I first saw him on an episode of Miami Vice.

        • editrixie

I have just been working on a fan vid for Miami Vice, and using clips from that episode reminded me how hard it was for me to shake off that horrible character when he started up on Moonlighting. I kept expecting him to beat the shit out of Cybill Shepherd!

          • MilaXX

He was awful on Miami Vice wasn’t he? Thankfully I had friends who remembered him from hanging out in bars on the Jersey shore so I was able to accept his Moonlighting character.

    • Chipster

Wow! He looks great! It seems a little thing but I think having the jacket completely buttoned up looks so much crisper. I hate it when only the top button is used and then you get a gaping view of the waist band and shirt, especially when a hand is stuck in the pocket. This is definitely the way to wear a suit!

      • MoHub

It helps that it fits him perfectly. So many of the young’uns seem to be opting for jackets a size too small, so they are not only unable to button the bottom button, they also wind up with the jacket pulling across the midsection.

    • Tatiana Luján

Which fabric is that suit made of? It’s beautiful.

      • In_Stitches

Looks like linen to me. It has the propensity to wrinkle and the faint transparency of linen.

        • Tatiana Luján

          Thanks.

        • alyce1213

It may be a blend, with a little silk, maybe. I think he’d be more wrinkled if it were pure linen.

    • Flavia Pantoja

That is why I keep coming back to you guys, over and over and over again: Willis is the Fuck up.
      Genius.

    • Karen L. Johnston Eltz

I totally agree with the shoe comment but I must say this made my day! A well-dressed man just warms my cold, gray heart!

    • housefulofboys

I really love a man who embraces his baldness, you can tell Bruce knows he looks fine and that’s a very attractive quality. Look at Andre Agassi, Patrick Stewart, Yul Brynner, Stanley Tucci, Telly Savalas. Of course I’m biased, my husband made the leap to shaving his head a few years back and I love it! Sooo much better than the dreaded combovers, or a weird pointy transplant like John Travolta.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I’ve known my husband since we were 16. I remember his thick, lush, hair vividly. But I am so happy that he took to shaving it all (or nearly all) off once the recession and thinning started. I miss his hair, I’m sure he does too, but I love that he has embraced aging like a boss.

        • formerlyAnon

I know so many men who need to learn this lesson.
It’s one of the things that keeps me in the struggle to accept “graceful aging” in my own [ever increasing] appearance maintenance decisions.

        • housefulofboys

I know my husband misses it sometimes too, he will wistfully comment on our sons’ healthy heads of hair and when looking at old pictures. But I think he missed it more before he took the leap and shaved it; now that it’s gone he realizes it looks so much better than the in-between “thinning” phase.

    • LaSylphide

Always liked Bruce, and he looks great. Shoes are a bit of a distraction, though. Lighter shoes and a big, white Panama hat and he’d look perfect.

      • MoHub

No. No hat. I want to see the dome in all its glory.

        • LaSylphide

Good point. Well, he could just carry the hat.

    • Introspective

OMG- I gay gasped at this!!!!!

there is nothing like a nice looking man in a white suit. Bruce, you fucking nailed it.

    • Diego!

OMG he looks STUNNING! He is almost 60!!! Way to go Bruce!!! I loved everything, including the shoes!

    • majorbedhead

Wow, he looks great. I never had much of an opinion on his dress style, but man, this is perfect.

    • Snailstsichr

Fanning self – I’ll be in my bunk; that’s all the commenting I can manage.

    • MzzPants

      Day.Um.

    • joanna dash

      Dear Mr. Willis’ tailor,

      You are a god.

(the fit on the model is abysmal in the sleeves!)

    • MissMariRose

Gawd damn, that man is foine! Even if they dressed as well as he does, today’s ladyboys can’t hold a candle to Bruno.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

He needs to come here right now and, um, teach me about fashion.

    • Virginia McMurdo

      Throwing it down.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Lifetime love.

      • imakeart

Yep. Old news to me, too!

    • capybara_cafe

      Damn, he looks amazing <3

    • Dan_In_NYC

Dear TLO, Please let ‘bizarro’ be a Miss Congeniality reference.

Would have loved grey shoes, or even light brown.

      • formerlyAnon

My mind went to the Bizarro World Superman comics. When I was a kid we ‘inherited’ a box of comics from older cousins, including the first Superman comic with Bizarro World in it. Of course, we actually *read* them and finished them off, mostly (weren’t at all pristine when we got ‘em), but I sometimes wish we’d preserved a few. I had a weird fascination with the Bizarro World Daily Planet building and offices, in the way that a little kid will fixate on something.

        • Dan_In_NYC

Yeah, that’s more likely. Given the Rom Com-y ness of Miss Congeniality (and TLo’s associated distaste for rom-com), the obscurity of how “bizarro” appears in the movie, and the overall comic bent of TLo, I suspect you are far more correct. :)

    • decormaven

Happy sigh over the finely-tailored suit and pocket square. Kudos to the stylist; well-played.

    • Just Me

Wow! That is a perfect serving of soft vanilla ice cream right there. Just what an overheated gal needs on a hot summer day.

    • AC Simons

He looks so good! Nice to see him aging well and looking snappy. (His acting in “Moonrise Kingdom” was perfection.)

    • ChiKat67

Gonna have to find ways to use the phrase “Willis it the fuck up” in my everyday life.

    • Virginia McMurdo

Can we all go out there and say The Bruce gets better with age? Sizzlin’.

    • Chuck Barthelme

Someone needs to tell him not to button the bottom button though. Would have loved a pocket square and slightly more pop of color with the shirt. And I agree on shoe choice. But really, nicely done, man.

    • d4divine

He looks flawless! You go Mr. Willis!!

    • Deenice

A one sided conversation overheard somewhere in the world:
      Hey Brad,
      ummm hmmm…
      yep…..
      nope…
      ummmm hmmmm white,
      no seriously….
      no shit! he did…
You know what this means right?
Well — because rumpled wrinkled bum is out brotha!
      okay, okay okay calm down
talk to Angie if you have to then but I’m telling you, and this is fair warning. YOU need to Willis it the fuck up!!!!!!!
I gotta go make a few more calls, give my love to the cirque.

    • crash1212

WERQ indeed! This is the proper linen suit. SWOON.

    • Tamara Hogan

He’s WERQing that suit better than the model did. Looking fine, Bruce. Looking mighty, MIGHTY fine.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I suddenly feel my heart all aflutter at the sight of Bruce Willis. That has never happened before. Snaps in a Z formation, Bruce (and stylist).

    • anotherkate

He looks great. And yes, the sloppy boystars should be ashamed. I would argue that no suit is better than an ill-fitting suit, all the time.

    • MartyBellerMask

WOW. I like this very, very much. Who’da thunk.

    • Beardslee

I have photos featuring my grandmother from about 100 summers ago. Everyone in it is wearing summer white. They look so fresh and celebratory of the season.. It’s great to see someone deploying a classic summer color so beautifully.

    • Janet B

      This makes me so happy.

    • Belvane

Yup. Grey shoes would have clinched it, but he looks great.

    • Glam Dixie

Why Bruce, I had no idea! Smashing, way to put the effort in.

    • Miss WKS

He seriously looks fabulous. But what is this trend of the big brown clown shoes with the little man suits? Somewhere in the back off my head are the lyrics to a Frank Zappa song…”brown shoes don’t make it”….

    • TheAmericaness

      Shut it down.

    • ashtangajunkie

A WERQ for Bruce Willis on Sausage Friday is perfect, in my opinion. Love him.

    • alyce1213

Definitely a WERQ. He never appealed to me very much in his younger days, just not my type, but he’s looking pretty fine now. Very fine indeed.

    • histrogeek

Willis is old enough to know where a tailor is and how to get a style consultant. It’s a clear example of the wisdom of age.

    • Qitkat

Coulda been a 10. All this needed was Pat Boone white bucks :-D

    • Lizzy

The pocket square is DIVINE (of course it doesn’t hurt that the trim is my favorite color these days). YUM!!!!!!

    • marlie

He. Looks. Amazing. I love everything about this.

    • jen

Damn! Go Bruce! It is Bizarro Day!!

    • paintedfish

      Damn, that man is sexy!

    • Poeta Paz

I wish that I could buy this suit for my husband!!!

Demi: you should’ve have stay with Bruce, no boystar can do better.

    • Kathleen

Hot. Very, very hot. Well done Mr. Willis.

    • Danielle L

This is giving me life. LOVE the white.

    • CeeQ

      KILLING IT. Well done, Bruce!

    • Julie Chase

Oof. Working that burly bald masculinity like a BOSS. Hans Gruber is jealous. And, uh, dead.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Wow…and it’s linen (a fabric I have stopped wearing because of the wrinkles).

    • imakeart

Yes, he looks divine. But his best accessories are – and have always been – his grin and the twinkle in his eye. Have loved him for many years!

    • http://melaniesuzanne.blogspot.com/ Melanie Suzanne

      Damn, baby. Yes, please.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

This made my Friday. Rock ON with your bad self, Bruce baby!

    • maggiemaybe

Ever since Pulp Fiction he has been one of my guilty pleasures. He is looking F I N E.

    • Denise Alden

This glorious bastard is mas macho!

    • Shawn EH

I miss his hair. But I love his teeth!

    • PastryGoddess

Sausage Friday starts with a bang

    • mommyca

      Wow! He looks good!

    • LuisaNL

shame about the shoes but he’s totally werqing it!

    • msdamselfly

The fit is great. Elegant as well as comfortable

    • formerlyAnon

      He looks good.
In the showing one’s age department, did anyone else think: “Mr. Clean dressed up!”

      No? Ah well.

    • melanie0866

The fit! The hem! The beautiful shirt! He looks better than ever.

And I like the brown shoes. White or grey would have taken the look into ice cream man land.

      • makeityourself

And the sheer pocket silk! (I agree with you on the shoes, too.)

    • SignLadyB

I don’t even like or follow Bruce Willis and I’m agape!

    • http://www.alejandra-valera.com/ A. Valera

I’ll always love David Addison so BW is a forever winner in my book.

    • Contralto

      YES!!!!!

    • Jessica Goldstein

I’ve never, ever liked his films or persona. But I cannot deny that he looks terrific here. I don’t like the shoes with it, but that is a very minor quibble.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      I’ll be damned.

    • appliquer

      Man WERQ

    • NoveltyRocker

DAYUM! And he’s smiling?? Seriously bizarro day.

    • Kelli Oglesby

Damn! I did NOT see that comin’.

    • Joanne Abrams

Oh yeah, Bruce, keep it coming!

    • e jerry powell

Damn. If he showed up to the date looking like that, I’d have to give him some.

    • another_laura

I would have gone with blue shoes. I don’t know why. But definitely blue. Kicky, summery.

    • NOLA_gal

Holy smokes! (also, down here in NOLA Bruce’d be wearing his oxfords with this outfit)

    • traceyishere

      Sharply tailored.

    • Danielle

Damn. D&G should have hired him instead of the model. Hello hotness.

    • housefulofboys

Did anyone see the pictures of John Malkovich at this same event, sporting a very light (gray maybe? but not white) suit, and gray suede shoes. I wonder if the boys planned this ahead of time?

    • editrixie

Wow. Bruno’s got it going on this time! I wonder if working with Queen Helen has helped him.

    • Anniebet

BKs, aren’t we lucky our Uncles Tom and Lorenzo have the most entertaining fashion blog in the history of, well… fashion blogs? Posts like this give me warm fuzzies and make me want to pet a kitten. They are spot on – Bruce is the Boss here. He looks so damned smooth.

He’s aging very nicely. The guy is nearly 60! On a side note, I gotta disagree with the Uncles on their alternative shoe choices. What about a light brown, amazingly expensive leather brogue?

He makes wearing a white linen suit look effortless. Stupendous!

      So sexy.

HUBBA HUBBA. I have always had a thing for Bruce, and it does my heart good to see all this perfection walking down that RC…erm, street. Or whatever. I’m distracted. Bruce is hot.

I’m not crazy about the brown shoes.

Well… I’d take a couple bites outta him! (unless that security guard gets to him first)

This is quite handsome and his silver buzz atop his just barely-there tan is incredibly sexy.

I LOVE the brown shoe as contrast – I would have preferred something closer to a chestnut, though. Even better would be a suede.

And I love wrinkly linen but it really works best if you’re lounging on a veranda, coat unbuttoned, with a Pappy 15 in hand.

He looks FANTASTIC! I like a brownish shoe with this, but a lighter shade would have been better.

woah. Never ever thought I’d say this, but Bruce Willis is lookin’ fine.

Wow. Also, he has really nice teeth.
