Tilda Swinton Valentino Couture Double Shot

Posted on July 30, 2013

Darlings, foisting the Jolie-Pitts on you first thing in the morning was cruel, we admit it. Here. Have some Tilda.

Tilda Swinton attends the “Snowpiercer” press conference in Seoul, South Korea in Valentino couture.

Bitch wears couture to a fucking press conference. RECOGNIZE.

Bitch also knows how to work a theme:

Anyway, we adore both these dramatic, unusual looks, but we’re thinking we like the press conference look a little bit more. The premiere look is a little too satin-y and looks too much like toned-down Versace to us. The coat at the press conference is a truly unique-looking garment. Besides, we love the idea of a massive couture coat for a press conference. There’s a gentle fuck-you quality to it. “This is all you get, losers. I’m saving it for the red carpet.”

Is it weird for us to say that we’re jealous of her hair?

  • Sweet Jesus,yes.
What I love, is these are striking pieces and then she adds her own serene aura, elevating it all to this effortlessly decadent place. Amazing.

    • larshine

Yes, this. It’s her serenity that elevates everything to Tilda-ness.

  • Paigealicious

Miley Cyrus WISHES her haircut looked that good.

  • gabbilevy

She is a beautiful alien and I love her.

  • Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, for sending me off to work with this!

  • ralish

Isn’t it a bit hot to be wearing a coat in July? Even if you are wearing it as a dress?

  • Silly Grrl

Bow down! I am also jealous of her hair.

  • appliquer

Thank you for the eye cleanse after the first post!

  • Courtenay P

Praise the Lord. Tilda is just what this world needs.

  • jangma

I give her props! It is absolutely sweltering in Seoul right now, and the humidity makes me sweat as soon as I leave the house. The coat and immaculate hair defy logic and physics. You alien fashion goddess, you.

    • Jarethee

Not just Seoul…Middle Korea is brutal too with the rain and horrible humidity. I’m getting heat stroke just by looking at her step our in this. After work my attire is tanktops, shorts, and flip flops since that’s all I can wear without dying. She looks fantastic though.

  • Tatiana Luján

I don’t like the colors of theese clothes against her skin.

    • filmcricket

Agreed. The shape of them is fabulous, but “oatmeal” is not a shade someone as pale as SWINTON should ever wear.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

I don’t know. I like that her eyes are the focal point in a sea of beige. For someone as dramatic in appearance as Tilda, it kinda works for me.

    • d4divine

The lights make the colors look lighter than they are…the color range is more of a chestnut tone to oatmeal…

  • MilaXX

I just adore her! She so fierce and chic, yet clearly marching to the beat of her own drum.

  • Judy_S

    She pierces more than snow.

  • EdithP

  • Jessica Freeman

I think the coat is fantastic for Tilda, but its entirely too big. I am completely jealous of her hair.

    • Aurumgirl

Oh, yes, I agree. The coat is too big. It would be perfectly fitted to me, though.

  • Dan_In_NYC

If I could have her hair in brown, I would!

Meanwhile, loving both looks. The Swinton looks amazing. And you know she dresses not because she loves fashion, but because she sees fashion as art. Love huh.

  • Nimith

I love her to bits but the press conference coat looks like a nana’s housecoat made from upholstery fabric. The red carpet look is more interesting. Even if it does, as you say, have shades of Versace.

  • ashtangajunkie

She’s living art. And her hair is magnificent.

  • LearnedFoot

My first thought at seeing the coat was that it was a couture take on a hanbok. I don’t know if that was actually the intent, but it makes the coat an especially appropriate choice for an event in South Korea. Love everything except the color.

  • chowwander

Satin meringue hair? Jealousy? Naw, surely not!
Thank you for the Tilda Morning Cleanse.

  • mhleta

    Damn, this woman is fascinating.

  • Danielle L

She would look fab in a burlap sack. It’s almost unfair.

  • 3boysful

At first glance, the thumbnail looks like she’s wearing camo. Phew–relieved it’s this weirdly amazing coat.

  • Not applicable

    love love love her!

  • MoHub

    Perfection. As always.

  • DamH

I almost scream out as scrolling down every inch. Attagirl, Tilda! 😉

  • BuffaloBarbara

Hmm, I don’t get the Tilda thing, and I’m definitely not jealous of the bleached blond over-moussed hair, but I do kind of like this dress.

    • clairellis

      I don’t get her either.

    • Peeve

I’m right there with you, and boy, are WE the minority!

  • mjude

BOWING DOWN SO DAMN FAST. now thats a way to start my day.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I forgive you for the early morning Jolie-Pitt. Make-up Swinton makes it impossible for me to stay mad at you boys.

  • ballerinawithagun

Thank you for removing that horrible “wiping themselves down with a sweaty towel” image from my mind!

Yes, the 2nd Valentino is a little Versace with the lion head medallion but it isn’t overtly sexy so it takes it out of the Versace realm. Silk is so difficult to photograph. We know this isn’t cheap fabric but all of those lights make it appear to be.

The coat is beyond amazing. I have 2 similar Italian fabrics that I’m working with right now and I’m truly enjoying myself.

  • Solfish

Not at all, your BK’s understand. We are jealous of her hair too!

  • imakeart

How is it that she manages to look amazing even with bags under her eyes?

  • formerlyAnon

Only a fool (or someone over 40 who still has awesome hair) wouldn’t be jealous of her hair.

First coat hands down my fave here. Because I can TOTALLY see her waiting in line to buy cereal and milk, or walking the dogs, or digging in her purse for sunglasses whilst wearing it. It’s oversized and over-the-top and she wears it like anyone’s good-cloth-coat that they got in the January sales.

    • rajf

“…she wears it like anyone’s good-cloth-coat that they got in the January sales.” Exactly!

  • bertkeeter

Second look would work if she was in a “slightly” more appealing setting, say the Ritz or George V.

  • crash1212

    Perfection. Both.

  • SewingSiren

Wants the fish coat. Loves both.

  • seelebrennt

this is the first time i’ve EVER thought a nude shoe was perfect. of course, Tilda.

    • alyce1213

I wouldn’t call these nude — they have more color, plus they’re croc or alligator.
      Absolutely exquisite.

      • kimmeister

Agreed, the silly putty pumps are immediately elevated when they have texture.

  • Le_Sigh

Love it – and I’m totally going to try for her hairstyle at my next salon visit (even though our hair types are willy different).

  • Fordzo

    *jumpy claps!!*

    • kim bunchalastnames

oh, my. i think i had that in high school. there’s a salve for it now, isn’t there?

      • Fordzo

LOL, I think it’s a tiny, little pill.

  • Kayceed

I like to think she is wearing it as a wink to the Korean fashion editors. Fabulousness recognizing fabulousness.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

She looks like a Goddess of the woods, who embodies the beauty of autumn leaves.

  • Trisha26

    Love both. She is other-worldly.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Love Tilda – always have, always will. But … although it may be heresy to say on this site, I find these photos of her less fabulous than usual. Ethereally pale people ought not to wear beige.

  • There needs to be a Swinton 365-day calendar, with large photos obvs.

  • d4divine

I love EVERYTHING about Tilda Swinton..even when she’s wrong she is right!

  • sagecreek

I’m jealous of her hair, her face, her pretty much everything.

  • Jennifer McGuire

I am in LOVE with this woman and this look. Fierce!

  • Ulyssesdove

if anyone can work a mullet dress, it’s Tilda.

  • librarygrrl64

    That! COAT!!!

  • julnyes

I really want to know what she has on under the coat… why do I feel like a creep saying that?

    • conniemd

Looks like there is definitely a beige blouse wih buttons under the coat as the model’s version has no buttons whatsoever on the coat.

  • prettybigkitty

Le sigh. She is an exquisite creature.

  • clairellis

    I still don’t get her. I really just don’t. I’m trying to, but I just can’t.

  • Joanne Abrams

She is unique and I like both looks.

  • MzzPants

No, it’s not weird. Her hair is devoid of gender and is usually magnificent. I wish I could just follow her around, basking and staring.

  • Lilithcat

First one looks like a housecoat.

    Love the second.

  • Airkisses

Why don’t designers use her as a guest runway model? Has anyone done so? She has such presence, she would be fantastic for closing a show.

  • Winter_White

Tilda in a Bong Joon-Ho movie — dear god. And I just saw Nicole Kidman in Chan-wook Park’s latest…for art-film freaks like me, these are dreams come true.

  • Shawn EH

That coat is epic. Other look is as feminine as Tilda gets, which is sweet.

  • quiltrx

    That coat is especially fierce.
And no, your jealousy isn’t weird–we’re ALL jealous.

  • kim bunchalastnames

  • So, there is silk pajamas under the coat, amirite? 🙂

  • OneRing

I don’t share the avant-garde love for her. She’s just too bizarre for me. Both items look like they will stand up on their own. The one that’s more coat-like has a whiff of mom’s housecoat/muu muu. Sorry, but ick.
