Sandra Bullock in Emilio Pucci at “The Heat” Premiere

Posted on July 03, 2013

We’re not loving the hair; let’s get that out of the way right now, but we do love the rest of this look:

Sandra Bullock attends ‘The Heat’ Australian Premiere in Sydney, Australia in an Emilio Pucci powder blue silk long-sleeve embellished dress from the Fall 2013 collection paired with Roberto Cavalli sandals.

Roberto Cavalli Patent-leather Cage Sandals

She’s been wearing the Serious Black Ensembles so much lately that it’s a happy surprise to see her in something bright. There’s flowers, even! We kinda thought Sandy was the type of gal who’d rather take a bullet than wear something with a flower on it (which we admit, makes her kind of charming, in our eyes), but here she is, all flower’d up. We’re digging the upscale casual vibe here. The dress could go beach coverup very easily (especially when her hair looks like it came straight from the beach), but the drama eyes and the GORGEOUS shoes are really kicking it up.

Seriously; that’s a super-cute dress on her, but the shoes just bring it to a whole other level.

Wow, you guys are up early today! This bitter kitten is grateful to have something to critic this early in the am!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Hot momma!

    • ms_kat

Great shoes, even if they look birdcagey.

But I hate the dress — it’s a shapeless and overgrown tunic that screams SEXY GOLDEN GIRL!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I get why the hair is so casual, but you’re right, its not quite the right thing. I only wish the sleeves of the dress hit her in the right place.

      • DTLAFamilies

What would be the right thing? You wouldn’t want the hair to look too done.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Maybe just down, loose and freshly combed, but otherwise untouched.

          • WittyCism

Would this be a moment to use that otherwise overused super straight hair with the middle part? Or would that be too costumey-Cher-in-the-70′s?

            • formerlyAnon

I hate to say it, but much as I like her, I think Ms. Bullock’s aging out of the super straight hair with the middle part. Though god knows plenty of her celebrity contemporaries haven’t bought into my hair agism.

      • conniemd

I scrolled back after your comment. I definitely see problems having to eat with the long, floppy sleeves. When the teens had the fashion of sweater sleeves to their knuckles they were tight knitted. These sleeves would end up in the dinner or lunch plate.

        • 3boysful

And that’s hard to alter, when you have the sequin banded bottom.

        • Debra Greenstein

          She eats?

      • Rhonda Shore

I actually like the hair for the mood of the dress, and more severe hair with the make-up would have looked too hard — as I often think she looks. I like the softness of this.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh I wasn’t thinking severe at all. Just down, and a tad bit neater. And yes to some volume.

          • Rhonda Shore

Oh, I know…but somehow i just like the relaxed feeling of this.

    • Annarosa

agreed, she looks beautiful in this. Love the shoes. The hair are a little messy, but I wouldn’t leave them untied. so, I don’t see many other options.

      • barbarienne

There are better ways to put the hair up casually. Let’s start with not having odd lumps where it wasn’t pulled in evenly. Also, artlessly wispy is good, but this is not so much artless as just unkempt.

        • Annarosa

          I agree, master :)

    • Jessica Freeman

She needs a little more color on her lips…and the hair is an issue. Wished the dress was just a skosh longer, but with how good her legs look, one cannot blame her.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Maybe it’s because Sandy here is on my irrational love list and can do no wrong in my eyes, but I LOVE this.

I’m also one that doesn’t ever mind the yoga hair, so that helps.

    • joanna dash

She looks adorable. I wish she wouldn’t stand like a cowboy though.

      • formerlyAnon

I have a friend I could pick out of a crowd at hundreds of yards by her height and the cowboy stance. Even though I haven’t seen her in the flesh since the mid-’80s. Some people just can’t “move like a lady” unless they’re consciously acting the part.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

I keep expecting something to drop to the floor from between her legs.

    • Diego!

I really try to like this… but I’m going to say something for which I will be really criticized for… She is a little bit old to wear that kind of dress… Sorry, she does look amazing and has an amazing face, body and legs but I think she should stick to skirts not to mini skirts… I’m sorry Sandra! I love you tough! :D

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I hear you. After all, Naya R was very recently featured here, also in a Pucci dress that’s really a shirt, and she is half of Sandy’s age. But you know, Sandra did it better. There’s a smidge more length and a proper strappy shoe, her hair is less sexy vixen, and more effortlessly confident. This doesn’t feel too much mutton dressed as lamb to me.

        • Diego!

I agree but I don’t know, I have to be less narrow minded I guess. She does look amazing but the lenght of the dress annoys me :P

          • MaryMitch

That’s because this is a shirt. I had one just like it in the early 70s, but even with my teenage legs I would not have worn it as a dress.

      • Judih1

I was thinking the same thing. But I am such a big fan of hers, I didn’t want to criticize. I think she has picked up this bad habit from her friend Heidi Klum. They both have German ancestry and apparently a penchant for wearing short dresses – in appropriately so

    • kayleymaybe

I overall like the look, although it’s losing me at the tassel.

    • AnaRoW

Um, isn’t it winter in Australia? I really like this look but it seems a bit light for the season.

    • carnush

Love it. Love the head, love the dress, LOVE the shoes. Go Sandy, Go!

    • mmebam

I like the hair. I think it makes her look effortless.

    • Emily Giovanni

I really like it! But I am with you on the hair. Having her hair up like that combined with the dress makes her look like she is wearing the outfit of a teenager. With a different hairstyle, this would be fantastic.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

      Isn’t it winter in Sydney?

      • chauncey

It is, but Sydney doesn’t get very cold. The high for tomorrow is 70 F.

    • MilaXX

Perfect summer look. I have no complaints about this.

    • formerlyAnon

This woman ALWAYS looks better to me in casual looks.

I’d say she can handle the flowers because it’s so casual – the impression is more at the “embroidered cotton Mexican dress” end of the spectrum than the “designer print rendered in sequins and beads” end. At least at first glance.

The shoes ARE impressive. Scrolling down, I was expecting cowboy boots.

    • Danielle L

MUCH better. I’ll even forvgive the hair.

    • veleri

      FINALLY!

She looks adorable, fresh, young, and happy :D
      It was about time!

    • MaggieMae

I was expecting an ill-fitted black leather skirt on the scroll down. This is refreshing!

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Best she’s looked in a very long time. Not over-styled, not trying to wear looks that are at odds with her persona/personality, just a pretty lady in a pretty and fun little dress.

    • ChaCha_70

Let me remind you all that Miss Sandy is 48 years young. Girl, you are one hot sexy momma.

      • DB Ruberto

I was gonna say… woman can you AGE please!

    • SugarSnap108

Cute dress, but you’re so right about the shoes instantly elevating it. I like that she wore her up with this, but it is pretty half-assed. And she needs earrings with a bit more oomph than little diamond studs.

    • MoHub

It’s a long dashiki. Thought those went out in the ’70s. And the hair defies comment.

      • julnyes

Enh, I think it has more in common with a kurta than with a dashiki. Plus, dashikis are awesome!

        • MoHub

Maybe more of a kurta. Either way, it needs to be either full-length or a tad shorter and paired with a pair of cigarette pants.

          • julnyes

yes, but do you think dashikis are awesome? yes or yes?

            • MoHub

At the right time and place, yes.

    • jangma

I don’t care for this look from head to knee, but those shoes… I am slain!

    • nannypoo

I don’t know what the back of her hair looks like, but from the front I’d say it’s perfect for a casual little dress like this. She’s beautiful.

    • DTLAFamilies

This would be a perfect look for a summer party in LA. Love it.

    • barbarienne

LOVE the shoes. Also love that she clearly gets regular pedicures. Makes me nuts to see ladystars in open toed shoes with ratty feet.

    • crash1212

Perfect. Including the hair to my eye.

    • GorgeousThings

I love it, even the flowers, which by virtue of being embroidered on rather than printed makes them that much more palatable.

    • GorgeousThings

PS – just noticed the new logo on the pictures. LOVE!

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The harsh lighting is doing her makeup no favors, but it’s a great little look.

    • Snailstsichr

I love this look on her. She can rock the hippie boho; I hope she adds it to her wheelhouse.

    • Janet B

      Love this look on her.

    • IAmJ

      Wow, killer legs, mami.

      YES to the whole look.

      • Not applicable

i agree- and the hair doesn’t bother me at all- b/c it’s been so friggin’ humid! get it girl!

    • msdamselfly

Great dress for her. More human than hard. Hair and makeup are off-putting

    • TLJezebel

Can’t get behind the make-up, but the dress is adorbs and she looks relaxed, well, as relaxed
as Sandy can be. Shoes are killah.

    • shawna

Those shoes don’t look like much in the picture, but they are GORGEOUS on.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Another super-cute outfit. Along with Flo’s I am digging this vibe today. A perfect example of how you can style something so many ways just by changing up the shoes.

    • SportifLateBoomer

I love this outfit on her and would wear every stitch of it myself, down to the nail polish, and I’m older. It shows a lot of confidence on her part, I think… it works because although it’s short, it’s not tight. Will try the smokey eyes, too. We share the same coloring, after all (don’t mean to brag, jk).

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Such a change of pace for her, I can’t even be mad about the hair.

    • Lucas

Oh, wow… I like it a lot! I’m so glad she got out of that ugly leather garb she’s been wearing. I think the hair looks okay, but I really dig the rest of what she’s got going on with her look here.

    • marlie

Fabulous! The rest of the look is so perfectly put-together that I don’t even notice/mind the casual hair.

    • Airkisses

This look is definitely in the running for the Best Deployed Shoe award!

    • BitterKittenJessie

Would just like to point out that it is in the middle of the freezing cold winter here in Australia and so this is seasonally inappropriate… Love the dress on her though.

    • Anniebet

Dress, shoes, legs all A+. Head, not so much.

    • demidaemon

I understand how the shoes work, but she can’t pair gladiator sandals with everything.

    • E. D.

Her hair should be down. Otherwise no major complaints.

    • joything

“… the shoes just bring it to a whole other level.” Yes. I wouldn’t have noticed the gold in the embroidered flowers if it weren’t for the shoes making me look.

    • TheAmericaness

She looks WoNDERFUL not in black! (my “o” won’t capitalize!)

    • LaSylphide

Great look, and great on her. I don’t even mind the windy hair; the look is casual so the uncombed hair is OK (this time, Sandy, not all the time; have you got that dear?).

    • PinkySlinky

      ‘Let’s get some shoes…’ Gorgeous

    • poggi

Like the dress, love the shoes (and the pedicure) but I am not sold on the eyes. I get why she needed dramatic eyes, but somehow I don’t think this s the best makeup for her face.

    • Mary Lauer

Seriously!? This is what, #4 or #5 of bondage shoes?!!?

      • oyeyemi808

        #23 Ha!

    • Dagney

I am really adoring her these days. She looks fit and healthy, and her shoes fit properly!

    • irielle

She reminds me of Ali Mcgraw here — that whole ’70s vibe.
