Salma Hayek Double Shot

Posted on July 11, 2013

We love how Miss Salma’s all Lady on the way in…

Salma Hayek arrives at the “Late Show With David Letterman” studios in New York City to promote her new movie “Grown Ups 2” in a Gucci dress.

And Dominatrix on the way out:

Salma Hayek makes an appearance on the “Late Show With David Letterman” in New York City in a Bottega Veneta dress paired with Casadei heels.

Let’s break this down.

Of the two looks, we’re gonna have to say that this one is the winner by far. Love the print, the wedges, and the free-flowing breeziness of it all.

On the other hand…

We can see how this is perfect for television, which means it’s probably not entirely fair to judge it under these circumstances, but MAN, is this not a dress you want to be wearing on a sidewalk in harsh daylight while the paps snap away. It just looks heavy and sticky in the hot sun. And the stripper heels are really not helping here.

But we have to admit, we’re a bit in awe of the fact that she can two such drastically different looks in the space of a few hours. Can’t fault her for being in a style rut, that’s for sure.

No one can do the virgin-slut turnaround like Salma. Bravo!

  • Why do her clothes always looks so inexpensive? And I don’t mean in that fun, interesting, made something her own, kind of way. Cheap. There, I said it. Why does she always look budget?

    • marlie

The Bottega Veneta dress looks ESPECIALLY cheap. I’ve seen discount store pleather items that look more real/expensive than this. And those shoes are straight out of one of those low-end stripper clothing stores.

    • DTLAFamilies

Especially when she’s married to a billionaire who owns luxury clothing lines. IDGI.

    • Little_Olive

Word. And I really like her (used to like her more, though).

      Happy Birthday Lorenzo!

  • The notion of, even for a moment, wearing that vinyl thing in the summer sun, makes me want to run to the shower.

    • Kristin McNamara

Yea, the east coast weather has been un.real. lately. I’m sweating just LOOKING at that second dress on her….

  • Julie Chase

Those shoes are the worst things in my life right now and I am without coffee. So you KNOW they’re bad.

    • MoHub

Both pairs for me. Platforms must die! Her feet look as if they’ve been fitted with couture concrete overshoes, and if you tossed her in the East River, she’d go straight to the bottom.

  • Courtenay P

love you Salma! This brightened my day.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

Also in the first look, she looks younger and fresh, and in the second she looks like a desperate and much older mob wife

    • Rhonda Shore

Exactly! Trying too hard in the all-black outfit.

    • Introspective

i love *everything* about look 1, especially that it has youthfulness while still being age appropriate. I wish I could look so great as i take to the streets in my summer garb …

let’s not speak of look 2.

  • marlie

I like both looks a lot, but the stripper shoes on the second look should be set on fire.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Agreed, though all that melting lucite might put a hole in the ozone layer…

      • marlie

You do have a point. Maybe recycle them? I can’t think of any other way of disposal that wouldn’t be harmful to the environment. *CREATING* them was probably harmful to the environment.

  • lbl

She looks so beautiful in the first one. I wish more celebs would go for these breezy, spring looks during this time of year. It’s like they’re scared of them or something.

  • SugarSnap108

The shoes in the second look were not made by mortals. They were spewed from the gates of hell.

  • MilaXX

I saw the show last night and honestly didn’t even notice the shoes. In fact I thought she looked good. I’m glad she knew this wasn’t a on the street dress so I’m okay.

  • nannypoo

I like them both. But that giant mass of hair laying on her back and on her neck on a hot humid day is making me sad.

    • ringthing

I agree. That hair makes the back of my neck start sweating just looking at it.

  • I think that Salma wore the fresh cotton dress for comfort do she could rock the black dress for the show. I prefer dress no. 1 but not for Letterman.

  • Annarosa

I love the first look as much as I hate the second one. In the second one she could have tied the hair up. But I’m not sure that it would help. My God those awful black shoes.

  • Lola Channing

slightly flowy is better on her. Love the Bottega Veneta dress. YOu can be sure it is the most wonderful leather ever (even if it looks bad here) It’s not meant to be worn when the sun shines. Obviously.

  • enuma

The person who designed those stripper shoes should be smacked in the head with them.

  • NBG

I want to wear the first dress so badly. I want to set the second dress and the shoes on fire so badly.

  • decormaven

I’m sweating just looking at that black dress. HIddy, hiddy stripper heels. Please make this trend go away. Love the shoes in the first look- perfect for that ensemble.

  • The black dress looks like those foam trays you sometimes get fruit in at the supermarket.

    • kimmeister

Ha! The problem is, she’s trying to store melons in it rather than mere strawberries.

  • OrigamiRose

A good rule of thumb these days for shoes is, if they look like a pair worn by Courtney Stodden, AVOID. And that dress – a roll of saran wrap dunked in a vat of tar.

    The first look is lovely.

  • Lauren Frankel

I hate the little dust ruffle thing on the first dress for modesty. Ruins the dress for me.

    • DuBey2

I also don’t like any butterfly prints. Ever.

  • ringthing

She looks great in both looks but I kinda wish she would just embrace her petite self and lose the ridiculous sky high shoes. The wedges are ok but the second ones look like they belong on a stripper Minnie Mouse.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

The first dress is lovely, but I’m confused by the chest area. It looks like a hastily tacked-on modesty panel.

  • Shawn EH

Even her hair changed between the two; both are TV werqs for me!

  • Poeta Paz

Love the first dress with her natural hair blowing in a warm summer day. The second one: no, por favor, Salma, no…

  • VioletFem

Is there a fashion version of a guilty pleasure? Because, I kind of like those stripper heels.

    • Sagecreek

Me, too. There aren’t many A-list folk who can carry them off, but SH sure can.

    • Corsetmaker

Me too. Anyway, lucite heels were around in the 50s and were perfectly ladylike before they got the stripper tag 😉

  • SewingSiren

The first look is summery, cute , and extremely pretty on her. The second is seasonally inappropriate and unflattering.

  • bertkeeter

Lucite heels are for porn movies only!

  • schadenfreudelicious

    Couture oil slick…

    • Lori

What is that black dress made out of?

  • Emily Smith

the heels on the second one look like hooves.

  • Glam Dixie

If Minnie Mouse were a stripper, she would buy those shoes. No one else should own them.

  • NMMagpie

Love the guys fixed on the “rear view” in the background.

  • stubbornthoughts

    Dem stripper heels, guuuurl!

It is amazing that she can pull off both looks, but I also much prefer her dressing like a normal person – which then she makes look sexy as hell.

  • Qitkat

I LOVE the print on the first dress, but not the dress itself, that weird filled-in V neckline is just, well, odd. Fabric deserves to be a true wrap dress instead, or a better designed sun dress.

The black dress, ehh. Especially not in July. Probably because I understand Letterman keeps his studio frigid.

  • formerlyAnon

Dress #1 is more flattering by FAR and also way, way more sexy.

Dress #2 is like your busty high school teacher trying to dress sexy. (albeit at a price point no high school teacher ever could access.)

  • Jacqueline Wessel

She looks thinner in the breezy floral dress, while that black thing gives her uniboob and the effect is like sausage casing. However, if I looked half that good I would not complain. She’s a beauty with a slammin’ bod.

  • Tracy_Flick

I love, love, love the print on the first dress. Absolutely beautiful. BUT the bodice seems dated and ill-fitting.

The second dress is sexy as hell, I’ll forgive a little bit of wrong season vibe and hoof shoes.

  • YoungSally

She was so adorable on the show — and wondered what TLo would say about the black dress. She sang the national anthem – so charming – and she got the words right – except for o’er. Way better than most Americans.

  • H2olovngrl

That floral dress is lovely and really makes her look soft and youthful. The other one….not so much. Lucite heels? Really?

  • Anniebet

First look… absolutely adorable. Second look… if I were the cow this leather came from I’d be all pissed my life was wasted on this dress. This is the first time I remember a kick pleat being the main feature on an outfit. Notice that I’m not mentioning those shoes. No, I’m not.

  • teensmom99

Oh the Gucci–at last, the old, impeccably dressed Salma is back. It’s the best I’ve seen her look in years (even if it is just a little old dress–for a Gucci).. When she was first famous, she was one of my favorite RC types but lately . . . .Oh, Salma, you are too beautiful to try so hard: just wear dresses like the Gucci.

  • Jecca2244

I think her style took a turn for the worst when she married into a clothing heirs family. She almost always looks like she is stuffed into her clothing and she has a beautiful figure.

  • Iroqhard

Her evil twin obviously conked her on the head with a vase and stuffed her in the closet, and took her spot on the show. Do you people not watch soap operas at all??
Somebody needs to send the pages to check all the closets! Salma Hayek is in need!

  • wanderlustlive

Love the first look – hate the shoes in the second look.

  • librarygrrl64

Whenever you say “Salma Hayek” and “double shot” in the same sentence, my mind goes right to her rack…..

Regardless, that first look is SO lovely!
