RuPaul at Fergie’s Baby Shower in Los Angeles

Posted on July 29, 2013

Y’know, we would rather be set on fire than have a baby together, but that’s just us. Still, if we could throw a baby shower and have the arrivals be something along these lines:

RuPaul attends Fergie’s baby shower at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles.

Then we might just get started on adoption proceedings pronto. We’re actually a little jealous of Fergie at the moment.

You go and get it, Mr. Charles! Love your sandals! And your pink tuxedo, bien sûr.

    I take it Fergie’s having a girl.

    • JenJW

She’s actually having a boy…her husband leaked it on Kelly & Michael last week.

  • Heather

    Love his man-pedi too!

    • iseeshesaid

      All men should have them!

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Oh my god, a spa pedicure is the best thing in the world, plus your feet look and feel healthy and smooth. There is a place here in Dallas called Foot Spa, which unsprisingly, is a foot spa. They have a one hour theraputic foot massage. They’re open until midnight, so I go before bed. I bring my Ipod and my neck pillow and my back pillow. I have a spa bag, I’m that gay. They don’t go above your calves. They soak your feet in hot water so you’re not ticklish, then they knead your feet like dough. Not ticklish, but part of it is rather painful — every now and then my feet are sore the next day. However, it’s that “hurts so good” type of pain. And then I go home and am in a catatonic dazed state for 12 hours. It’s heaven.

        • akprincess72

I’ll be passing through Dallas in September, would you mind naming the place? It sounds like a perfect treat before my flight!

          • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

It really is named “Foot Spa” and it is in Addison, SW corner of Belt Line / Montfort. South side of beltline from the giant WalMart / BestBuy / Dallas Shoe Warehouse (since you’re right there) strip mall where Prestonwood Town Center used to be. Foot Spa is behind Chipotle and faces La Madeline across the parking lot, not facing Montfort. They speak no English there so you have to mostly point at what you want. The one hour $30 dollar foot massage is what I always get. I’m not kidding when I say they can make you cry from pain if you are not used to heavy duty massages.

If you’re just on a layover at DFW or Love then it’s probably not worth the effort. If you are driving, you need to know that 635 is partially closed due to major reconstruction from 35 all the way to 75 for the next few years, so, as everyone in Dallas knows, **never** get on 635 for **any** reason at any time of the day or night – seriously.

          • akprincess72

            Thanks for the info!!

    • Griffinqueen

      with his mandals!

    • Edna Furburger

Why can’t it just be referred to as a Pedi?

      • Aurumgirl

It is a Pedi. But you can see that his hands are well groomed, as well. That’s the Mani part.

Personally, I am not sure why men are so afraid of sandals and the pedicures they require to wear them. They look a hell of a lot better than shitty dollar store flip flops that people wear everywhere they go, and they certainly feel better than the ubiquitous running shoes and boots that men insist on wearing no matter what the weather.

        • She didn’t say “mani-pedi,” she said “MAN-pedi,” drawing a distinction between a woman’s pedicure and a man’s.

          • Aurumgirl

Sorry. I have a bit of dyslexia and I miss letters now and then. Still, he does look like he does both man version manis and pedis. As one should (and if I recall correctly, men also have polish applied to their toenails to finish the look. Maybe just not coloured polish, or just not as often).

  • Monabel

  • Kate Andrews

Gorgeous color with his skin tone. He is beautiful as a man and a woman!

    • drdarke

There’s no fucking justice in the world – RuPaul’s a stunner as a woman, and a hunk as a guy.

      • Edna Furburger

He’s a stunner as a woman. Let’s leave it at that.

    • Joanna

I was going to say the exact same thing – it takes a special something to be as feminine as Ru is, and exude such masculinity as Mr. Charles is, even while wearing a pink tux. What a spectacular creature Ru is!

  • barbarienne

Okay, this is a serious question: Where do the drag queens get their shoes? I cannot wear women’s shoes because they are never wide enough (no, not even close, please do not recommend some brand which you swear is wider; it is not wide enough), which means I live in men’s walking shoes and hiking boots. But I would like to have nice sandals such as Ru Paul is sporting here. Where do I get them?

    • bxbourgie

I DO know that one of the queens on RPDR a few seasons ago was sporting some Jeffrey Cambpell shoes so I know Jeffrey Cambpell makes some of his women’s shoes available in mens sizes. I know Solestruck carried them at one point. I know JC shoes aren’t everyone’s taste, though.

    • LondonMarriott

Nordstrom carries a wide (pardon the pun) variety of sizes and even has an event once or twice a year for sizes under 4 and over 10. They may be able to help you.

      • ChiKat67

Correct, Nordstroms also have special sales with women’s sizes up to 13.

    • somebody blonde

In terms of brick-and-mortar stores, you can find drag stores in gay neighborhoods. There are also a lot of websites.

    • Heather

I don’t know that these are necessarily women’s shoes. A lot of European men wear shoes like these; it’s possible he shops in Italy, etc. He could also have them custom-made. (I know that doesn’t solve your problem of needing to find a place in, I assume, the US that makes affordable shoes… just an observation. Good luck with your search!)

    • MilaXX

There’s an online shop called barefoottess that does very fashion-y women’s shoes in larger sizes and wide widths. I like sole society because my foot is wide, but not unusually big.

    • Declan

Those sandals are by Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers and come in red, white and navy.

      • alyce1213

Good call! And they’re on sale now, limited sizes.

    • StellaZafella

      I wear men’s 8.5’s and women’s 10.5’s myself but…
Iron Fist shoes are what Ru designs for and I found them available on the internet…they tend to have a max size of 12.5 women’s in some sites but go to “larger” sizes on others. Just ‘Bing’ or ‘Google’: “Iron Fist shoes”

      • barbarienne

My feet aren’t long–I wear a men’s 8.5 or 9. It’s the darned EE width, and the fact that my feet are shaped like duck’s feet: wide across the ball of the foot, narrow at the heel. Lots of men have that shape foot, so there are men’s brands that work perfectly. Women’s shoes in WWW are often too narrow for my toes, while simultaneously enormous around my heels.

Okay, the Iron Fist “Stabby Cat” pumps are doused in awesomesauce and I think I need to try those.

        • giddypony

While a woman, I have the duck feet too. Sandals shouldn’t be a big problem for the heel. I wear a lot of clogs/mules which I know is not a great answer for men not living in Sweden.

    • par3182

Peggy Hill shops at Lubbock’s Very Large Footwear for her size 16EEs.

    • This doesn’t solve your problem, but you might find it entertaining.

The story of “Kinky Boots” is about a drag queen and his partnership with a floundering shoe company to make boots for drag queens. It won Best Musical and was developed by Cindy Lauper, who won a Tony for best score. If you can’t get to Broadway to see the play, it was a movie first. I caught it on cable last year.

      • ItsDicey

        VERY fun movie.l

      • barbarienne

LOVE that movie! That’s what made me think, “Wait, I bet I could find seriously hot girl-shoes made for men’s feet…somewhere.”

  • Little_Olive

Hahahaha omg the epitome of dressed for the occasion. If the shirt wasn’t pulling in his chest I’d give this a WERK.

    • kimmeister

I’m actually quite shocked by the ill fit of his shirt, considering how perfectly tailored everything else is.

  • bxbourgie

Ru has come SUCH a long way. I cannot even DEAL with Mr. Charles, he is TOO MUCH, and I mean that in the BEST way possible!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

And it is about damn time, too. He’s everything a true star should be.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I have been reading the rags about Fergie’s baby shower and the guest list reads like one of the most fabulous parties ever thrown.

And while RuPaul has a history of absolutely fucking fierce shoes, this might be the first time I have wanted to steal a pair of them.

  • MrsAtaxxia

Everything about this makes me jealous of Fergie. Now there is a sentence I NEVER thought I would type. EVER. Ru is a gosh darned national treasure.

    • FunButNutz

Really? I officially got green with envy when she snagged Josh Duhamel.

      • MrsAtaxxia

Ahh yeah. He doesn’t do it for me, so knowing Ru is definitely it. Actually seeing the other comments, apparently her whole guest list is pretty awesome. Le sigh. Lucky lady all around.

  • Donyelle

he’s upstaging the guest of honor! To quote Tupac “I ain’t madatcha!”

  • Chaiaiai

Excellent deployment of the bag hand switch, Ru.

  • OT: How un-famewhore-y and low key has Ms. Fergulicious been? What shots I’ve seen of her, she has taken great care to be cute, but also to not accentuate the tummy. It’s as if, shocker to follow, as if she and her hubs are choosing to add to their family with the motivation of love. You know, as opposed to product placement deals.

Can we assume, with Ru’s suit, that there is a baby girl is on the way? Love that bag!

    • MilaXX

Josh announced it’s a boy on some chat show. I think Ru was just in a pink tux kinda mood.

      • RebeccaKW

He was meant to wear a pink tux. He looks amazing.

    • par3182

Is pink for girls and blue for boys still a thing?

  • Ru, please tell me this tux is available in my size and price range. PLEEEASE.
I’d rock the shit out of this at every formal event I’m invited to.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

That’s it, I’m getting knocked up right now.

    • MilaXX

I’d only get knocked up if I knew Auntie Ru was attending and gifting at my shower.

      • formerlyAnon

I can’t say even that would be sufficient inducement. Done my time.

  • Cele Deemer

Thanks for that, T-Lo, now I have serious foot/pedi envy.

  • formerlyAnon

    Old Style Star Commitment.

Also: “Y’know, we would rather be set on fire than have a baby together, but that’s just us.” If only more couples had such clarity on the big issues!

    • Also OT (because I really don’t feel like working) I wonder, do men get the same bullshit reaction from people that women do when they express their non desire to have children? When a woman, in a hetero relationship, says this very thing, she is typically lambasted with objections and the beliefs that she/they will change their minds.

      • Lori

        Yes, they do.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

My husband never gets asked, even when we’re together.

      • formerlyAnon

Never having been a man, I can only go by observation: They get the same “oh, you may change your mind” stuff, but FAR less frequently get the awkward, stymied, 3-beat silent or stuttering pause while the interlocutor apparently is unable to even process such heresy!

(Also, people seem to ask the woman far sooner into a relationship than they do a man).

      • kimmeister

I don’t think it’s as drastic. I’ve gotten “but people like you need to breed!” and looks of aghast horror as if it means I want to eat children as snacks (I do not hate children, I’m content to “borrow” them and return them to their parents after a few hours). My husband gets some comments of surprise (because he is Latino) but nothing to imply that he’s a monstrous child-eater.

        • I have friend, she’s married to her true love, they are financially sound, she is not remotely maternal (though she loves her dog) and the stories she has told me of the things people say to her when she conveys they are childless by choice are appalling!

          • kimmeister

I try to get them out of my hair by saying I’m content with my two feline kids, to varying degrees of success.

      • Little_Olive

Honey, I’m still working on putting up a brave face when people realize I’m 33 and not married (huge difference with men in the same situation, btw).

        • marlie

          Same. Here.

        • Bless. Puritanical busy bodies can suck it!

        • tinyredlocks

Try being over 40 and not married…

      • J. Preposterice

It’s not as ridiculously over-the-top, no, but they do get it. It’s always struck me as a horrid thing to do to someone, like, seriously, no — it is their damn life, let them make their own decisions about it, ffs.

      • demidaemon

That’s pretty much 15% of Chelsea handler’s schtick.

  • Diego!

I love it. This is a male drag to Ru! I absolutely hate pink, but it looks amazing on him! Way to go! 😀

  • MilaXX

I’m not a punk wearing type of gal, but I love the sandals and bag here.

  • BuffaloBarbara

I think if I knew a lot of fashion people, it’s the bridal shower I’d want. I mean, imagine the TP wedding dress contest.

    • understateddiva

oh man – if he was on my team he’d be the gown model – IMAGINE getting to design a TP gown for RuPaul!

  • jen_vasm

Oh, come on, Tlo! Get that baby! And you’ll be so proud when the moppet is, say 11 and has learned from your rapier wit, gimlet-eyed take on life and honed-within-an-inch-of-its-life sarcasm to turn it right back on you so it’s like having a discussion and/or argument with yourself…
Oh wait, that’s my life. Never mind, ya’ll!

    • formerlyAnon

How successful was the “mama, dad and the grandparents all talk that way & we understand our limits and try not to hurt feelings, but neither your first grade teacher nor most of your classmates will get it” talk? (In our house, followed by 15 years and counting of emphasis on the importance of Being Kind.)

      Or do you home school?

      • jen_vasm

Nah, the kid gives what he gets. Sarcasm is met with sarcasm, 11 year old boytalk begets more of the same, teachers get the required minimum and girls get…..panicked expressions and a quick retreat.

  • CeeRich

    THIS IS A WERQ!!!! Fabulous.

  • dorothea_brooke

This is going to sound odd, perhaps, but he has the most beautiful skull. And of course the outfit is TDF.

    • kimmeister

I don’t think it’s odd, some people work a bald head much better than others because of the shape, lack of wrinkliness, etc.

  • mhleta

I have to say, this kinda rocks my world. He’s like some sort of wonderful Chanel chocolate-strawberry cupcake laced with mood enhancers. It’s as close to being drag as you can get while still looking like a handsome man. It’s crisp, cool, saucy, impeccable and perfect for the occasion. And, I’ll wager, he is one of the ONLY people on the planet with enough panache to pull off a pink tuxedo with sandals. I’m positively levitating right now. Thank you for this.

  • rkdgal

Gotta love and admire a person who knows how to dress impeccably as BOTH a man and woman! Snaps, Ru.

  • d4divine

    The always flawless Mr. Charles.

  • Anniebet

Well, I’ll be damned… who woulda thunk this could be so freakin wonderful? This is brilliant.

If you’d described the outfit to a room full of BKs without showing the picture, you’d probably get a whole lot of hilarity ensuing.

  • Fordzo

He’s like candy for my eyes.

  • zenobar

You can have all the ladystars; RuPaul is my spirit animal.

  • Danielle L

Yes, hi where can I get on the list to have RuPaul show up at my baby shower? Can pay in witty anecdotes and eyeliner.

  • Imasewsure

Just the phrase “Rupaul at Fergie’s Baby Shower” made me so happy and then Ru’s outfit…. loved it… so different and yet just right. LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • mjude

way to end my day. love the bag.

  • MzzPants

He is beautiful and impeccably dressed.

  • What a lovely man! Dreamy! Creamy! Delight!

  • teensmom99

I think you could throw a post-wedding celebration and invite him (and ask him to wear this).

  • alyce1213

I wish I knew what he brought in that bag! This is a WERQ in my opinion.

  • marlie

This is awesome. He is KILLING it.

    • Edna Furburger

He’s actually not quite killing it. Jeff Goldblum kills it. Do a search on YouTube for “Portlandia – The Knot Store” THAT’S how to wear a pink tux.

  • Just Me

Ru, baby, mama needs that suit…made and tailored for a woman…size…well, we’ll talk about it later…and I just KNOW you have a good source for sandals like those in a low heel. Some of us are vertically challenged. Call me, Ru…help me work this drag.

  • Do not adopt or birth a baby just for the gifts. A word from a wiser mom.

  • CeeQ

That is one chic as hell pink tuxedo. Only Ru Paul can pull that off in the middle of day. With sandals. How Fabulous is that?!

  • KikiAvocado

Christ on a cracker- He is FLAWLESS! Head to Toe – I am a biological woman that bows down to mama Ru!

  • Mariah J

“Y’know, we would rather be set on fire than have a baby together”

  • Rand Ortega

Went to Jr. High w/ my brothers in San Diego. Was voted “Best Afro” in the yearbook. He had amazing style then & that has definitely not changed. I’d cut a bitch for that entire ensemble. MERQ!

  • Kathleen

    So fabulous.

  • Aidan B

Never have a pink suit and shiny pate looked so good.

  • Kate4queen

  • macwell

OKKKKAAAAAAYYYYYYY????!! You betta WERQ that out Mr. Charles!

  • Dan_In_NYC

Notable for so many reasons, not the least of which is his impeccable pedicure. Ru is the epitome of “been through some things, knows some things, here to keep it real.”

    • AmeliaEve

But what happened to his foot in the last photo?!! There is some funky Photoshop going on here. I would not have noticed if I hadn’t double-checked the toes after your comment.

His feet do look great though.

      • Dan_In_NYC

I noticed that too. There’s a cement block or something out of focus in the foreground of the photo.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Dayum! WERQ it RuPaul!

  • Patrick Cleary

Ru, you are giving me LIFE!

  • Sushy Gooroo

Eleganza in pinque. The only minus is that awful bag but it is forgivable.

  • Contralto

    Could you just?!!! SO fabulous.

  • Edna Furburger

Nobody but nobody wears a pink tux as well as Jeff Goldblum. Do a search on YouTube for ”

Portlandia – The Knot Store” Goldblum KILLS the look.

  • Meelah

    I love RuPaul.

  • Edna Furburger

Ru, you BREAK that pussy, Mama!

  • That look is EVERYTHING.

  • Peach Carr

GORGEOUS!!!!!! …and the “being set on fire” comment made my day..xoxoxo

  • NYCGlamourpuss

LOVE him! So sharp and stylish!

  • julnyes

A slightly larger shirt and some cuff visibility would put this solidly in WERQ-land, but right now he is very close to the border making eyes at border patrol.

  • barbarienne

YES! THANK YOU! *kiss kiss kiss*

  • Lady Orwellian

I’d have a 3rd or 4th just to have another shower if Ru would come!

  • Courtney Cne’

I couldn’t stop staring at his feet! Mine never look that good, even after a pedicure. His complexion is just so gorgeous.

  • mickiemonkey

Ooh, I want whatever giftee he has in that bag.

  • Roza

He has lovely feet! Love his look from H2T…
