Miranda Kerr in New York City

Posted on July 10, 2013

We don’t know, you guys…

We’re usually of the opinion that she and her style twin Rosie Huntington-Whitely are blessed-by-the-goddesses fashion nymphs who can do no wrong when it comes to their breezily effortless personal style. Like Style Wonder Women.

But this:

Miranda Kerr out and about in New York City in a Proenza Schouler top paired with a Helmut Lang skirt, Stella McCartney sunglasses, a Givenchy bag, and Chloé booties.

Proenza Schouler Tie-Dye Short Sleeve Tee. Helmut Lang Kinetic Side Slit Maxi Skirt. Stella McCartney Retro Sunglasses. Chloé Susanna Booties. Givenchy Antigona Bag.

Is causing doubts.

We think the top is cute, but – actually, we think everything is kinda cute here, but we don’t think it all comes together very well. Those booties simply don’t look right; especially when you take into consideration the east coast humidity at the moment.

Plus, that top should be paired with shorts or skinny jeans. It’s too long to pair with a slit-to-the-thigh maxi. The proportions are off. She looks like she’s melting. And worst of all, she failed to get the label on her bag facing in the right direction. Oh, Miranda. We didn’t think it was possible for you to disappoint us in this manner. Please immediately put on something amazingly cute and get photographed in it so we can all feel better.

    “Do you like your earrings?”
“I like them if they’re Lacroix, sweetie.”

  • Lola Channing

rip off the skirt Superwoman and expose some cute short shorts underneath.

  • Julie

The boot is actually kinda cute. I think the fatal flaw here is that she’s wearing too many high-impact pieces all at once. I like the high/low thing much better.

    • Snailstsichr

I think she topped the upper limit for how many designer items one can wear at once. Five is at least one too many.

      • Julie

I guess it’s hard to say “no,” if they’re practically throwing the goods at her.

  • RebeccaKW

Yes, the skirt is too casual for those booties or skirt. The booties don’t go with the skirt, either. Even fashion goddesses make a mistake now and then.

  • Diego!

I think we need some Capri pants here… what do you think? Do we have some Capri pants here? Why isn’t anyone ready??? WTF is that look Miranda??? NO!!!

    • Lisa Utter

Kinda looks like there’s a belly under there. Preggers, maybe?

  • filmcricket

…Is it opposite day? How is it possible that the item in these photos that I like the best is by Stella McCartney? I don’t know who I am anymore.

    • gabbilevy

Stella can hardly take credit for an extremely classic sunglasses shape. Breathe deeply, close your eyes for just a moment and your sense of self will be restored in no time!

    • H2olovngrl

I was thinking the same thing! I also really like that skirt, and I don’t think the shirt would be bad with it if she had on some easy breezy little sandals. I think the boots are hiddy and the bag is ALL wrong!

  • Virginia McMurdo

Stank booooot! Oh wow, I laughed.

  • kmk05

This is… not working. At all. Mismatched from top to bottom. She could have saved it with some denim shorts while keeping everything else. That, or tucked the shirt in, maybe?

    • MilaXX

The label is on the top of the bag. The triangle thing. Her bag is stuffed so it’s curvier than the one in the picture.

      • kmk05

Aaaaah, I just saw it! Maybe it’s a sign that for a photo-op, better have an optimised photo-bag as a decoy to avoid cases of over- or under-stuffing.

  • kimmeister

The worst offender is the boot. Dang, those are ugly. I also don’t think the sunglasses are the right shape for her face, they’re too long.

    • teensmom99

What can I say: I’d love the boot–if it were winter and she were wearing skinny jeans. I guess have have my pseudopunk/suburbanmom side.

    • ankali

I like the boots. I could even buy the boots with the skirt. I hate the shirt; I can’t get behind tie-dye, even hipster-ironically.

    • Rhonda Shore

You’re right…the skirt looks like a thin jersey fabric…without those boots and the heavy black bag, it might work…

  • MilaXX

This is what happens when stylist decide the trends and this summer’s trend is bootie with dresses. If she was wearing a cute flat sandal, I would like this look. Instead she’s wearing these booties that would be better suited paired with skinny jeans and looking crazy.

  • omg_dora

I can’t decide which of these clothes I like the least. I mean, the skirt is completely graceless and unflattering, but the print on that top… And those stupid boots…

    • kaysarasara

I”m pretty sure I owned that top in the 90s. It wasn’t a good look then, either.

  • teensmom99

Today it’s 90 degrees in DC and humid as hell and I am wearing a long t-shirty thing and long cotton black skirt–and feeling like that is a really stupid look but what are you going to do when your fiftyish, overweight, hot and are working from home. The operative words in my selecting this outfit were overweight and hot. So I was really confused to see that Miranda and I are going for the same look. A rare slip so we’ll forgive her. And reading this has made me realize that I should try harder too!

    • largishbearishAtlish

Did you decide to take your bowling ball with you too? (am I the only one that sees a bowling ball bag in her hands?)

      • teensmom99

largish: I see what you see and I actually wish I had a bowling ball bag in a beautiful leather. I think that sounds cool.

  • VeryClaire

The skirt looks stupid when she walks – like it’s a one-legged trouser or something. Not attractive in any way.

  • another_laura

It’s all okay until I get to the bootie. Now, I like those booties, don’t get me wrong, but not with that.

  • It’s somehow dowdy and slit up to there, all at the same time. I think the shirt looks like something from KMart.

    • decormaven

Yes, that shirt’s twin is over on aisle 6 at the K-Marte.

  • teensmom99

I just realized that there’s a part of me that’s stuck in the 80s that is thinking that this would all look great together if she switched out this skirt for a mini-skirt. Don’t you just see the young Winona Ryder in that, with the booties?

    • ankali

I can definitely see it, but I still don’t like it.

      • teensmom99

Okay, maybe great was an overstatement.

  • Anniebet

Dem boots got to go, preferably to someone else who can wear them properly.

  • frannyprof

    Those booties are dumb.

  • Janet B

Love the top, a longer version would make a great dress.
Those booties could use a pair of jeans and some cold weather

  • CeeQ

The boots fucked it all up hahahahahahaha!!
What? allow me my glee – this is the first time I’ve been able to point and laugh at her!

  • conniemd

The skirt can’t decide if it’s a mullet or a thigh slit skirt. It looks like angry fan took scissors and cut a big hole right out of the side front of the sirt.

  • Heather Chandler

It’s a true testament to her personal that she can wear so many statement pieces and make it look so natural. A studded boot, a front slit skirt AND a tie dye tee and she still looks like she’s just running out to buy some flowers for her apartment. It’s not fair. Also, say what you will, but the girl always manages to look expensive. Points for that.

  • Kate4queen

Wait-she and Rosie aren’t the same person? slaps head

  • formerlyAnon

    No. The skirt looks cheap.

Also, I am the last person to ever deny the blanket, universal, all-seasons, all-times, all-temps appropriateness of black shoes & purses . . . but this combo looks ill suited to the summer day and the casual (not to say Laundry Day) vibe of the ensemble.

  • quiltrx

She looks like the bottom of a swimming pool.
I really like those boots, not in the summer and not with this outfit.

  • MannahattaMamma

What on god’s green earth is in that bag? What does she need to carry a bag that could easily be a plumber’s helper? I mean seriously, does she have like spare plungers, maybe a toilet seat cover in there?

  • RuthGo

I cannot with the women walking around NYC in boots right now. Do you have any idea how disgusting it is here right now? I barely want to leave my air conditioned home much less encase my feet in leather.

  • ItsDicey

The booties are cute as hell! I’d wear ’em, but not in hot steamy weather. No bueno.

  • DamH

the combination looks so frumpy-sloppy. and her face is like super tiny btw

  • Jessica Freeman

It’s the booties for me. A chic pair of sandals and this would have been fabulous.

  • Cathy S

I was thinking, what a cute tshirt, and then I saw it was Proenza Schouler and then I thought, my god, what a cute tshirt I could never afford. I don’t much care for the rest of the outfit.

  • Shawn EH

Scrolldown fugly. Don’t they make black sandals? Something gladiator and resort might save this look.

  • mjude

love the nyc garbage in the background.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Miranda should be punished for her style faux pas here by having to give me those boots … please!!

  • cowper

Those boots are NASTY. And the yoga top….seriously, Proenza Schouler? You guys couldn’t have come up with anything better than ripping off the stuff at Lululemon?

  • Pudgy Possum

Just proves that you can buy all the names you want and still f*ck up–and hard too. She might as well have bought her outfit at Walmart for all the zing this ensemble (doesn’t) have.
Keep in mind that I am jealous of her looks, so this is a rare opportunity for me to berate her (and I will take it, by gods!).

  • bellafigura1

Nothing is working here, not one thing. The bag is awful — so big and heavy and blocky and black.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

    Send her home.
