Michelle Rodriguez at the “Turbo’ Premiere

Posted on July 10, 2013

This girl needs a makeover so bad. She makes our eyelids twitch.

Michelle Rodriguez attends the premiere of “Turbo” at AMC Loews Lincoln Square in New York City.

We get it. Her whole thing is, “I’ve got great hair and a great bod, so I’ll just put on a tight gown and show some skin and call it a day, alright?” But man, is it getting old. Fine; you’re a no-nonsense kinda gal on the style front. So why not ditch the gowns, then? Rarely are her movies the kinds of movies that require gowns for the premieres. Since she trades in action films and cartoons of various ilk, she can more than get away with a short dress or skirt, or even pants. Something with a little shape and color to it would go a hell of a long way in freshening her up. Maybe a hairstyle only slightly more involved than “I ran my fingers through it on the limo ride over” too. Also: jewelry, but we’re pretty sure that’s a bridge too far for her. How about a little cuff? A belt, then? A shoe that isn’t black? ANYTHING in the accessories category?

At the very least, can we get her to agree to stop wearing gowns that look like formal bathing suits? Would the occasional sequin kill this girl?

    • Julie Parr

      Her arms are amazing though!

    • Heather Chandler

I see what you guys are saying about the formal bathing suit but it’s hard to argue that she looks smokin’ hot and completely comfortable with herself. IN or me.

      • Sobaika

Exactly. That goes a long way in making any type of outfit work.

That being said, she could werq the hell out of a great pair of leather pants on the red carpet.

      • Clueless_Jock

She’d look great even with a snorkel.

      • jen

So true. If I had that bod I’d be in tight dresses all the time too.

    • Rhonda Shore

She really does because she’s a hot girl. She was really sexy on “Lost.”

    • Deedles

Well, at least she is no longer wearing her *a-hem* ankle bracelet. It’s a start…

    • Introspective

she definitely has a great body and a cute face. she could easily do more. or hire somebody that will. a gay who isnt afraid to throw some of the tough attitude back at her & push her further on the style front.

uncles, if there was ever a better candidate for the tv show you pitched about matching stars in desperate need with the style gays that will make their dreams come true, i cant think of one.

Maybe her people, the ones who are constantly trying to shoot down the lady who likes the ladies rumors, will not let her wear pants and whatnot because in their deluded and misguided minds, gowns equal hetero female. Silly people.

      • JauntyJohn

iirc she herself has been fairly vocal in shooting down those rumors as well.

        • sweetestsith

She’s been pretty vocal about liking dudes only, and has also said that the lesbian rumors nearly killed her career and people didn’t want to hire her when the talk started. I don’t know if its true or just a good story, but if it is I feel bad for her. Either shes actually straight and gets a lot of unnecessary shit (because hollywood is crazy), or she can’t come out without being typecast as a uber dyke and never working again. Lose-lose situation.

          • filmcricket

Wasn’t continually getting arrested for drunk driving kind of a problem for her career for a while there?

      • anotherkate

Weird, I thought she was out. But I would totally believe that some closed-minded “minder” would think that a dress–any dress!–is somehow more straight than pants, despite the fact that I get the feeling she would be more comfortable and traditionally feminine-looking in something edgier. She’s my fence jumper and I love her! But she could use a shot in the sartorial arm.

        • nyll18

Oh, she’s been quite vocal about *not* being gay. I think the quote was something like “Shelly likes sausage.” Fo real. Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

          • anotherkate

Huh, guess I was totally wrong. Not that I care one way or another (and as a fellow tomboy I feel her pain if she is straight and no one buys it just because she likes sports more than necklaces). I’d still totally GO gay for her though…:)

      • Rhonda Shore

There are plenty of glam ladies who like ladies…check out Agnes Moorhead for starters.

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

          Don’t tell me…tell her stupid people. : )

        • marlie

We bitter kittens know better, but there are still some in the industry who don’t.

        • sekushinonyanko

          Amber Heard, for example.

        • julnyes

whose Agnes Moorhead? All I’m getting on the name is a correction to the actress who played the mother on Bewitched.

    • BerlinerNYC

This almost works for me. But—and this is NOT face-snark—does she look somehow not quite like herself? Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen her since Lost? Is it because her hair is longer and she just doesn’t look like Ana Lucia? Does she just need some tinted lip balm and 2 seconds’ worth of mascara? She looks like she threw that dress on after she went to the gym. Obviously she doesn’t look bad, it’s just a shame, as TLO point out, that she didn’t invest the tiny effort it takes for an attractive woman to look stunning.

      • editrixie

Uh…haven’t seen her since Lost? Seriously?

        • BerlinerNYC

Yes, seriously. I don’t watch those movies about the cars. Has her cinematic career been thriving otherwise?

          • filmcricket

I’ve never seen her in anything.

            • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I liked her in SWAT, a lot.

          • H2olovngrl

            Avatar…maybe?

    • StellaZafella

I love her work…and I think she’s great looking…as for Glamor…with ‘G’?…I’m afraid, from what I’ve seen, this IS her inner Diva.

      • formerlyAnon

I agree. That’s why (IMO) it looks so good on her. Demands of the Star Making (or Career Maintaining) Machine notwithstanding.

    • MilaXX

I would love to see her in pants.

      • mjude

i am a fan of hers. she could look bad ass if she had some gay uncles. pants would be great.

    • beebee10

It looks fine to me except for the hair. Just a little more effort there and she’d have her look, which, as you point out, is spare and don’t care.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

It’s the perfect dress for her body – I like her in this. Just get the hair and make up more in line with the dress and I think she IS pretty much good to go… it’s all coming pretty damn naturally for her. Bitch!!

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

I think she looks younger than she is, makeup is no that bad, hair is a mess, and the dress is whatever…

    • decormaven

Maybe the thought was that this is a kiddie movie, so no need to add any “glamour” to a dressy look. Wrong! You’re out on the red carpet, so either bring the glamour or go for an edgy look, as suggested by Messrs. T&L.

    • SylviaFowler

I guess all of the real celebrities are on holiday somewhere?

    • dorothea_brooke

I just feel sad because I know I’m actually going to see this movie.

      • kaysarasara

You must have small children. I do, as well, but I have been shielding them from exposure to the preview, so I might not have to take them. Let’s hope so anyway.

    • Beardslee

“Formal bathing suits” – bless your hearts, Tom and Lorenzo. Well put!

    • Liz

DItto on the “she’s wearing a dress because she/her people think that the dress is going to help her not look gay”. 1. the fact that she looks so uncomfortable in a dress isn’t helping her at all on that front 2. she should just go the kstew route and get a beard and wear leather pants or perhaps a dress that doesn’t look like it’s from Chappell’s Junior Prom collection. She’d look so much more natural.

    • Synnae

I like her, I like the dress itself but agree, it could have done with better hair and some accessories. Those shouldn’t necessary be bling bling (as that is not really her style), an interesting wooden cuff or some metal modern earrings would go a long way.

That said, she does look comfortable on the red carpet which is nice.

    • River

“Would the occasional sequin kill this girl?” *snort laugh*

    • Little_Olive

      You said it all.

    • Anniebet

She looks like a healthy and fit softball or soccer player dressed for the season end banquet.

    • kirkyo

Sad from the front. Dayum girl from the side.

    • NoveltyRocker

She needs a hairstyle with more volume on top or just less on bottom. The right cut would let her go on being low-maintenance and improve any of her formal bathings suit choices by bounds.

She just looks like she’s in that style no-man’s land of believing she’s not reallysupposed to give a shit about her looks. Or that it takes an unreasonable amount of effort or cash to hang with the rest of the Hollywood fashionistas so trying is a waste. It’s cool if she honestly doesn’t value expressing herself that way but the small gestures at makeup and body conscious dresses seem to indicate she cares a bit. You are a beautiful, interesting performer! CARE MORE, I say with love. Or unabashedly care not at all but get out of that awkward style purgatory.

    • formerlyAnon

If I were gonna fence-jump, this would get me to do it. I get that she’s not putting forth the effort, but I’m in the “she really doesn’t have to (yet)” camp.

      • kmk05

You took the words right out of my mouth! Although she would look stunning in clothes that are a little more… her. This is so drab! It’s kind of like her uniform.

    • Donna Tabor

That’s not so much a gown as it is a long running dress.

    • marlie

Totally “formal bathing suit.” Also, it looks like she needs to wash her hair. And we can tell that she’s wearing makeup; it wouldn’t hurt for there to be a color on her face somewhere. And yes, an accessory *somewhere* would have made a big difference.

    • NBG

Great dress for an athlete going to the ESPYs.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

        yes!

      • conniemd

Yeah, I rather like the dress if it was properly accessorized or even cut off above the knee. She has fantastically toned arms and it fits her like a glove.

    • stubbornthoughts

She looks like she just got out of the pool and her agent rushed her off to the premiere.

    • teensmom99

Her hair and make up remind me of my daughter and her friends who are too young at 14 to consistently do their hair or wear make up. It’s kind of sweet to see them in their natural look just discovering fashion and playing at greater sophistication all the time. On Ms. Rodriguez it just seems like an affectation.

    • kittyminion

Her hair is terrible, but I’d still hit that like the hand of an angry god. *fans self*

    • E. D.

She needs to do something different with her hair, stat!

    • Susie K

      Pulling a Jolie.

    • Clancy Johnston Tice

She does look like she surfed all day and put that dress on in the back of a VW van, but I’m thinking…what’s wrong with that?

    • Imasewsure

She looks like a normal healthy and pretty athlete who just discovered the Nike Prom collection. It’s fine but boring Hope it’s the start of something good

      • Pennymac

“Nike Prom Collection” is an epic description!

    • Julie Chase

She boringed all the way from Boring Town.
