Jude Law in Ermenegildo Zegna at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships

Posted on July 08, 2013

We challenge any man to get out of a car in July while wearing a double-breasted linen suit and wind up looking as super-fine as this:

Jude Law at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships in London in Ermenegildo Zegna.

Ermenegildo Zegna Spring 2013 Collection

Some people are just born to wear a certain look and everyone else should just get the hell out of their way and leave them to it. Nicely done, Mr. Law.

I like it when men don’t feel the need to play silly hair games. I do wish he’d shaved the neck, but I don’t mind the face scruff.

    • MoHub

Absolutely my reaction. The man is owning his receding hairline, and G-d bless him for it!

      • AnaRoW

Yeah, but am I the only person who’s reminded of Phil Collins?

        • MoHub

          Bite your virtual tongue!

        • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

          S-S-Sussudio what?

I know – it was shameful, but I couldn’t help it.

        • Jake Donohoe

You are NOT the only one who thought “Oh look, a hot Phil Collins .”

        • LauraAgain

I started to write it above, then saw your comment. No, you’re not the only one!

          • Aurumgirl

I don’t see the Phil Collins. I see the hairless Cary Grant, though. Especially with the suit.

      • Emily

He looks SO GOOD. Owning is the only way to describe it. Sigh. My day is made.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

I agree! I dated a guy for a little while who was so self conscience, he never took his baseball hat off. And I do mean, NEVER took it off.

      • Janet B

        Sorry about that….hahahaha

      • MartyBellerMask

What’s worse though, hats or hair plugs?

        • Excellence_and_Elegance

          Yes.

        • MoHub

Either is better than a bad combover, but I can live with hats. Look at Ron Howard.

  • Jessica Freeman

And not even breaking a sweat. He looks damn fine.

    • RebeccaKW

His suit’s barely wrinkled. I wrinkle a linen shirt all to hell just putting it on.

      • Jessica Freeman

I don’t even buy linen for this reason. I can’t stand looking like a wrinkled napkin in less than 5 minutes. You are alone!

        • poggi

The only time I ever bought linen was in Miami. A few minutes outside steamed out the wrinkles and gave you a facial.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Dayum! Perfect bespoke tailoring. It looks like a fine linen silk blend suiting twill. Gorgeous.

  • ashtangajunkie

Very good! I especially like the sunnies.

  • MilaXX

Jude looks great and congrats to Andy Murray!

    • mjude

of all the years i DIDNT watch!

      • MilaXX

I only caught the last few minutes because people were getting excited on twitter.

  • Tatiana Luján

With his hair that short, he’s looking a bit like Mark Gatiss.

  • Diego!

I just can’t… a blue suit with brown shoes… Uggghhh No, wear them in black and it would be a male WERQ!

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I thought you were supposed to wear brown shoes with blue suits!

      • Diego!

I know! I can’t understand how nobody but us are mentioning that!

      • Tatiana Luján

I think you can wear shoes of many colors with blue suits. I think the brown ones he’s wearing are perfect for the look.

      • MoHub

The rule of thumb in my younger days was: “Never wear brown shoes with a blue suit,” but I never could see the issue. I like the combo.

        • Aurumgirl

Really? The rule of thumb in my younger days was NEVER wear black shoes with a blue suit–always brown! Which always seemed a bit restrictive for me.

          • MoHub

Guess it all depends on when one’s younger days were. I’m a relatively old fart.

          • Aurumgirl

I’ve officially begun the descent into “old fart”. I suppose I’m different from you in that I have no lawn to chase the young’uns from. Yet.

I’ve always thought navy and black together were chic, and despite the regulation, that’s what I’ve worn all along. For what it’s worth.

          • MoHub

Nope. No lawn for me, either! I’m in a townhouse with a small patch of front yard and a back deck that looks out on an alley. Kids hang out in the alley, but it’s community property, so I can’t chase them off.

  • Viviennne

Jude darling, untidy neck aside, you look damn fine!

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

    missing his sex appeal, sorry..

  • decormaven

Well played, sir. Love that pocket square!

  • Mismarker

    Sexy Phil Collins.

    • Shawn EH

I added another related thought above!

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I would have put money on that first picture being Jason Statham.

  • Anathema_Device

He might not be all sweaty, but now I am.

  • gabbilevy

Ok, but Wimbledon? In a navy suit? Is that a thing? I know dem Brits are stuffier than us ‘Muricans, but I’m sweating just thinking about it.

Still, he looks lovely, venue inappropriate or no.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

If you are in one of the boxes, I think they have to wear suits.

      • gabbilevy

        That doesn’t make it sane.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Most years I think a raincoat and fedora would be appropriate attire!

        • MoHub

“Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun.”

          Thank you, Noel Coward!

    • Anathema_Device

I think it is actually venue appropriate for Wimbledon, especially if you’re a more well known spectator.

    • nancymae

I think the boxes demand the suits. Gerard Butler and Bradley Cooper also wore some natty suits at Wimbledon yesterday.

    • GracieGirl

Yep. Even not-famous folks sitting in not-box seats will wear the suit-and-tie combo for the show courts. I just had the opportunity to attend my first Wimbledon; Centre Court for the 4th round and Court 1 for the Men’s Quarterfinals. While not everyone was dressed to the nines (this here ‘Murican was wearing cargo capris and a pair of Vans), the crowd was better dressed than those at most US sporting events by a significant margin.

  • zenobar

    So English. So damn English.

    (That is a compliment.)

  • Clueless_Jock

Looks good but the tie clashes with the suit.

  • maggiemaybe

    He is so damn pretty.

  • formerlyAnon

He looks really comfortable and natural in that suit. Nice.

  • Qitkat

I have had an irrational dislike of Jude Law for years, but this is swinging me back the other way. Beautiful suit, styled with panache. I just can’t believe men have to dress this formally for tennis match viewing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

I don’t find a dislike of Jude Law to be irrational. I dislike him, too. And I’ve reached that point in life where I think men should either have beards or be clean-shaven. Stubble just doesn’t cut it.

      • alyce1213

It’s almost 30 years since Don Johnson popularized stubble on “Miami Vice.” I’ve liked it over the years, and I get why men like it — they look cool, it sculpts the face, it’s forgiving, etc. But I think it’s way overdone at this point, it’s become the norm. I especially hate it when the occasion and the clothing would be much better served by a clean-shaven face.

        • Shawn EH

You have to not be jowly and have cheekbones. Which, he’s Jude, so no problem there.

      • conniemd

Hmmmm. My daughter and I would disagree. We are both suckers for bad boys. The unshaven stubble and even neck beard give the guys a bad boy look, as good boys would shave. This doesn’t mean it’s a rational choice, but how we view the hotness of men is strictly a matter of personal choice. I think stubble makes a guy even sexier. That is particularly true when a suave, sophisticated pretty boy like Matthew Bomer grows some stubble. Gives him a bad boy edge. (Course he looks great in the clean shaven con artist look too).

    • Aurumgirl

I like that they do! It’s good to see men dressing like adults, with real shoes and all. I’ll take that wherever it happens.

  • marlie

He looks fabulous. And I even love the receding hairline. It actually looks good on him.

  • prettybigkitty

The pocket square is giving me life!

    • conniemd

Love, love, love pocket squares. They make a man look dapper and sophisticated.

  • LadyCelia

Clearly, he has magical suit-pressing elves in the limo.

  • MzzPants

I’ll take one, express shipping please.

  • Frida

TLo, if you could also put up some photos of Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler from yesterday that would be simply smashing… I’m not sure whether it was the same across the pond but those of us watching the BBC’s coverage here in England at least were bombarded by gratuitous shots of these two chuckling away during the match and they looked pretty well turned out I must say…

    • Carrieanno

They were on the DM site and you are so right.

    • decormaven

Ditto on this request. We’re a bit low on Boy, considering there was no Sausage Friday.

  • snarkykitten

Perhaps he also arrived in one of those big horse hitches

    • H2olovngrl

with the halter clips on either side.

  • Sara__B

He’d look super-finer if he shaved.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

those textured ties are not my favorite. but then i remember my dad used to wear them, and that makes me happy. he was quite the snappy dresser. that uniformed lady in the last shot looks like she’s about to grab herself a hand full of nuts.

  • alyce1213

Love, love, love the suit, but I wish someone else were wearing it. (Irrational dislike, can’t help it.)

  • EdithP

I’m so glad he’s embracing the receding hairline. It looks so much better than a comb over.

    • Shawn EH

He’s like a hot Bob Hoskins.

  • OrigamiRose

I wish we could import this style of dress for American sporting events. Just fabulous.

  • Rand Ortega

MERQ it, Jude, honey. He just gets better w/ age. Pretty boy never suited him. Now…Rawrrr!

  • Janet B

    He looks gorgeous. So gorgeous.

  • JauntyJohn

    Hell yeah.

  • H2olovngrl

    He looks so dandy!

  • largishbearishAtlish

I also like the ‘flaming pocket square’ look he has going on- very nifty!

  • Shawn EH

Dude, that is so your suit. Even with the too trendy knit tie!

  • flamingoNW

Wow. Not usually a big fan, but dang. He’s sure workin’ it on all levels. Great suit on him.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Wow is right. I’m sensing personal best here, with extra points for the pocket square.

  • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

Respect, because it is properly hot in London right now and I was sweating wearing just a flimsy sundress. Love the tie.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    VaVaVoom!

  • sunnycalif

    Yum!
