Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita in New York City

Posted on July 22, 2013

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita spotted out for brunch a day after their wedding in New York City.

Congrats on the wedding, boys! We’re feeling all nuptial ourselves at the moment because we swore we were doing something super-small and intimate for our own but quickly found out, as so many before us have, that once you start announcing your wedding plans, they start growing. People have opinions, is what we’re trying to say. But we’re still committed to tiny and private, so we’ll see. We honestly can’t abide the idea of anything large and grandiose; not for us.

Now, boys. We’re a little surprised to see you like this because we thought it was an unwritten law that gay couples do the “Are we dressed alike?” thing before leaving somewhere together. Granted, it’s July and shorts and a t-shirt are pretty much a given, but still. You’d never see the two of us walking down the street, both with our shorts cuffed at the exact same level. No, sir.

On the other hand, excellent color-mixing, gentleman.

  • JTF is my favorite celeb to follow on Instagram. He puts up the funnest behind the scenes pics, ever. More marriages, more love, more equality. Nothing wrong with that.

    • Silly Grrl

Vegas, for the win! We didn’t do a drive thru wedding, but we did get married there. Ten of our friends/family joined us. It was the perfect size!

    • twocee

I third the Vegas recommendation. Then just throw a giant party afterwards at home.

    • Lady Orwellian

Getting married on my due date was mine.

Edit: Overdue to be exact. In our apartment. By my friend and three other people there + 2 cats.

  • decormaven

Looking good for a hot day. Thanks to the heavens they have on appropriate footwear and clothing- that shot of Orlando Bloom on the NYC street makes me thankful for the little things.

    • Just Me

      I had the same thought!

      • decormaven

I hoot at how familial ties are described. “Ms. Angina-Pactoris is the daughter of Sally Angina, a professor of religion at Bard College and Sandra Pactoris, director of international research at the RAND Corporation; while Mr. Sattinthall is the son of Emily Deschamps, a social sciences teacher in Montauk, and Ret. Col. Jack Sattinhall, a Legion of Merit medal honoree.” There’s the rare plebian stock in trade as well.

  • siriuslover

I like the fact that they have 5 different colors between them and not a stripe to be found. I’m also digging Justin’s hat.

  • Leah Elzinga

those shorts seriously look IDENTICAL. They do look pretty close to the same size, if not height… maybe they came from the collective shorts pile?

  • Silly Grrl

They’re so cute! I would try to follow them down the street and make them my new friends!

  • Frank G

Can we also add a rule about Couples’ Attire? I like bears (for straight folks: bears are big, beefy hairy gay men) but I’m not a bear. Most bears like to wear casual shorts and t-shirts and I like to wear button downs JCrew style. When in a relationship, try not to deviate too much at either extreme because it then look like you two are going to two different places.

  • Brigitte

My Irish ancestry looks at that redhead and screams “sun protection! where is it?”

Apart from that, yeah, they look cute.

    • Bullfrog sunscreen, spf 75. My dad swears by it.

      • Brigitte

He also needs a hat, because I’m assuming he isn’t rubbing sunscreen through his hair to protect his scalp.

I… may be a little militant about this stuff 🙂

        • One day, they will make a spf hair conditioner and it will sell like mad.

        • alyce1213

I worry. His forehead looks a little red. If he has on SPF, he needs to reapply. I’m also a bit militant.
His legs are as white as mine.

      • algaechick

As mother to an Irish redhead who is very fair-skinned even when compared to other fair-skinned people, we now swear by Blue Lizard sensitive skin, SPF 30. We have to order it online, but the price-tag is a bargain compared to the lack of freedom she had before.
Especially since I can’t get her to wear a hat. Apparently there are no acceptable hats for a 14 yr old female rocker. According to her. Pretty sure that is in large part because I suggested a hat. She does sunscreen the part in her hair, at least.

  • As someone planning my own wedding, I started to get panic attacks and hives from all the “advice” about things that I “HAD” to do. I read the book from apracticalwedding [dot] com and it saved my sanity. You don’t have to do anything that you don’t find special or significant. It is YOUR day and you should spend it however you want, because honestly, whatever you choose will be completely beautiful and personal. Also, they look adorable.

  • The smiles send it right over the top for me. of course, should Jesse become single again,……..
    (jus’sayin” I’m calling dibs NOW)

  • GorgeousThings

I’ll give them a pass because the t-shirts are different enough, but it does look like they went shopping together at Banana Republic and picked the same shorts in different colors.

    • Monabel

      But why is it bad?

  • Beth513

So tiny and private, does that mean all the BKs are not invited to the nuptials of Uncles T and Lo? 😥

  • ashtangajunkie

I love Jesse Tyler Ferguson, his husband’s chapeau, and their cute, happy smiles.

  • They are SO cute.

Boys, my wedding is in LESS THAN 3 WEEKS. And it is large. LARGE. It is full of largeness. It also is legal in the State of NY (phooey on you, Philly), but shit’s getting real and last night we had MAJOR tiny wedding envy.

    • alyce1213

Relax and enjoy. Big weddings can be a blast . It’s a wonderful thing to share with lots of family and friends.
      Best wishes.

    • formerlyAnon

Nobody’s going to remember the details. And 97% of the stuff you are stressing over is going to look like the details on the day. The other 3% is you & your partner, looking happy to be there and being (or at least looking, but it’ll probably BE being) oblivious to last minute glitches, of whatever magnitude. (Easy for me to say, I know. I’ll spare you the stories of my wedding. But I promise it’s true.)

    • one bit of advice: don’t let your photographer push you around.

  • Meg0GayGuys6

This is my favorite Gap commercial ever!

  • EdithP

If Tom & Lorenzo cuffed their shorts at the same level, wouldn’t one of you be wearing hotpants? : )

    • MilaXX

Oh the BK’s are feisty this morning!

  • SewingSiren

Wait. What? Did you just announce that you’re planning a wedding? I understand the desire for small… and intimate…..but whats about some proxy online reception stuff for the old-timers. I can make a proxy cake. Cause cake is a must.

    • kaboobie

Totally. TLo, you need to have an online reception so all your Bitter Kittens can attend!

      • crackineggs

I wanna sit at the Skype table!!

    • decormaven

Cheese straws. There must be cheese straws. And little pillow mints.

  • MilaXX

Lol ill give a pass. It’s hot & all I require if clothes is that they be clean and cool.

  • marlie

Yeah, they’re matchy, but I can’t be mad at them the day after their wedding! They look adorable. 🙂

  • CeeQ

Darlings, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I completely missed the announcement because…well…I’m a selfish bitch and it happened on my birthday – so I was all into me that day! Come on, admit it, you are just a tiny bit proud of your self centered BK, right? Jokes aside dears,I am so happy for you both and can’t imagine a lovelier wedding to hear all about when it’s all said and done. PHOTOS BITCHES – that is all that I demand/politely ask for. Alright maybe not galleries of photos of your special day for us to sticky beak but at least one of you guys in your suits =D Pretty please! xxoo

  • Jaeda Laurez

Eloping is tradition in my family. My grandmother eloped, my parents eloped, and I eloped. I wouldn’t have traded it for the world – as everyone has said, contrary to popular belief, it’s really YOUR day, and you’ll be smiling so hard you won’t remember half of it lol. So do what suits you.

But Jesse and the hubby are cute- and since it’s been hotter than the floor underneath hell these past couple of weeks, refreshingly appropriate and normal.

  • StellaZafella

It’e better than the Castro Rural Gays of the 70’s who all wore matching Pendeltons to signify who was dating who (this week).
I wanna sit near these 2 at brunch and eaves drop…I bet they dish divinely!

  • Lilithcat

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita spotted out for brunch

I know it’s hot in New York, but this really looks more like “Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita spotted out to clean the garage . . .”

  • RedRaven617

I want to see wedding pics! They look adorable.

  • stubbornthoughts

I love JTF and wish him and his hubby all the best in the world!

  • Guest

Stick to your tiny-wedding guns, TLo! More time to gaze adoringly at each other instead of being whisked off for viewings like prize ponies at the fair.

    JTF and hubby are adorable.

  • Ashleigh

    I like how they’re not 6-packed out…

  • SportifLateBoomer

I always thought that one of the benefits of being in a same sex-relationship, assuming you were of similar size/build, was that you could share clothes and dress alike! I’d like to double my wardrobe possibilities…

    • kimmeister

Heck, my cousin and his wife have the same size feet, so they sometimes share sneakers and flip flops!

  • Danielle L

    I LOVE that v-neck. Perfect.

  • julnyes

They are weather appropriate and look comfortable – very cute couple and I hope they have a long and happy marriage.

  • SugarSnap108

I love their mix of colors. That’s couple coordination done right.

Is it sad that I love JTF a little bit more just for NOT clutching a phone in his hand?

    • imakeart

Not sad at all! As someone who despises cell phones, i fully support your position.

  • Aw, they look like a pair of Ken dolls perfectly coordinated to skin – tone (“give the olive guy the more tropical earth tones; cooler hues for the ginger”). Justin looks like Ducky, so I really want to hug him.

Also, though their bases are the same, their detailing is at least pretty different – the collars, hat, shoes, and sunglasses are all pretty distinct. I think the problem is that their color scheme is so perfect for each of them that they look like a pair of dolls, more than that they match (though the exactly rolled hems are funny – I bet one of them did both shorts for the pair of them). But… AWWW they look so cute.

  • alyce1213

How about a streaming internet wedding for tiny and private? That way we can all attend.
Congratulations on your blogversary, the book, and your impending nuptials.
This must be a very incredible time for you.

  • AnotherJulie

These guys look adorable. I love that when you feature celebrities in the real world (on the street, etc.), unless the look is outrageous or obviously attention-seeking (Miley Cyrus etc.), your commentary is usually positive.

  • Joyce VG

Oh I can’t wait to see the wedding photos of you two. You will share with your unborn fawns yes? Congratulations! And Jesse and Justin are just too cute.

  • Tom N

My husband and I have to check to make sure we’re not too matchey before we leave the house too, because we end up shopping for the same sorts of clothes at the same time. Congratulations on the impending wedding, boys. Don’t let anyone guilt you into doing something you don’t want.

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

If they were mere mortals, I’d say that it’s possible that they accidentally dressed a like. Every so often, especially when we’re on vacation, my husband and I have worn the exact same colored t-shirt and not realized it until we were out the door. But no, this must have been planned. They look absolutely adorable.

  • Aw! More congrats. 🙂

  • Cathy S

They’re totally adorable. Such happy faces.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

So cute and comfy and happy in this miserable fucking weather! In the words of Travis Birkenstock, “Two enthusiastic thumbs up!”

  • Jacqueline Wessel

    Aw, they look so happy.

  • teensmom99

V neck vs. crew neck. Makes all the difference.

  • d4divine

They look relaxed and happy. Congrats to a lovely couple!

  • e jerry powell

    They’s married now!

  • Anniebet

    Happy dance for them.

  • Iroqhard

Dude, cut them some slack. They have been BANGING LIKE NEWLYWEDS, man. We’re lucky they are wearing any sort of pant. Hat? Hiding sex hair. NEWLYWED SEX HAIR.

  • formerlyAnon

They look so happy and relaxed. You wouldn’t even suspect they were celebs caught on the street.

Wedding planning: Blinders and multiple events. That’s the only way to go. Decide on what you two want for the ‘real’ ceremony, stick on the blinders and do it.

Pacify your family/friends/constituency with subsequent parties/receptions/whatever works, stretched out over whatever time frame works for you. Give little heartfelt speeches at each non-ceremony event, even throw in a little ritual (toasts, prayers, whatever works) so the guests feel they’ve been included in the important life-event itself.

  • You’re getting married????? Congrats! I’ve been out of town/vaca’ing/indisposed, etc. and somehow missed your wonderful announcement. So happy that the world is becoming a better place for you even in this very small way. Well, actually, it’s not so small. It was definitely big enough to fight for.

  • PLEASE tell me you’re going to post YOUR wedding photos for all the world to see!! 🙂

  • librarygrrl64

Are you guys going to head over to MontCo and get married, too? That would be awesome. 🙂

  • H2olovngrl

Maybe these two should play you guys in “Tom&Lorenzo”, the movie.
