Jenna Ushkowitz at the Dizzy Feet Foundation Gala

Posted on July 29, 2013

We would just like to say for the record that, even though we’ve been highly critical of all the celebu-fashion on display today, we are not actually in a bad mood. It’s just that these bitches look terrible and we’re the bitches that need to tell them that.

Jenna Ushkowitz attends the 3rd Annual Dizzy Feet Celebration of Dance Gala at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.

This is not a bad dress, but it comes off very sedate and mature for someone so young. Thank goodness the back’s at least a little interesting, because from the front, she might as well be singing on The Lawrence Welk show. Pretty color for her, though. But she should avoid a bust with straps spaced that far apart. It makes her look much broader up top than she is. Also, that waist bow looks like something you’d buy in the greeting-card-and-gift-wrap aisle of CVS. Girl, you’re young, famous and hot. You can do a lot better than this.

That’s not even MOB. It’s GMOB. Terrible.
Tan lines? On the RC? Is this trendy? Yikes.

    • MilaXX

Her mua should have covered those tan lines

    • drdarke

She and Kaley Cuoco must have the same stylist – appalling.

  • Sobaika

Ick. Does anyone remember the buttlerfly shirts from the late 90s? That’s what the back is reminding me of. From the front it is a dingy nightgown.

    • Little_Olive

Yes, the back is so infantile it looks kind of sad instead of providing some interest.
Pairs up perfectly with the sad little bow in the front.
The whole thing is… sad, really.

  • hughman

    Margaret Cho’s mother.

    • Rand Ortega

      DAY. UM.

      • hughman

Lol. What? I assume all the BKs know Ms. Cho’s routine by heart.

        • Rand Ortega

          HIlar. “Moran”!!!

    • Little_Olive

C’mon Hughman, I’m still laughing for “Bed, Bath and The Yawn”. Give us a break here.

    • MoHub

      Is he the gay?

    • Julie

      “I was not ready.”

  • MasterandServant

It looks like a bridesmaid dress that I was just forced to buy for my sister’s wedding….but the back of this is interesting at least

    • MilaXX

      JINX

      • marlie

        Times three.

        • MasterandServant

At least the dress that I threw down $200 for is navy. ugh.

          • marlie

            Mine is navy as well!

          • demidaemon

Are you going to have a dress burning party after the wedding(s)? Because these dresses sound hideous.

  • flamingoNW

Also, maybe not the neckline for those tan lines…. It’s Not Her Dress, but it’s a pretty dress

  • Jessica Freeman

I really like the back. And that’s bad when the back is the most interesting thing about the dress. The tan lines bug.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Where’s the jacket that goes with this penoir?

    • Pennymac

Prolly in Joan Rivers closet! Too Mature!

  • MilaXX

It looks like she’s a bridesmaid. I would like this more knee length and in a color.

  • elemspbee

All the resources this young actor has and she hardly ever gets it, if ever.

  • VeryClaire

It’s mature but I don’t think too mature given the amount of skin she’s showing up top. Perhaps appropriate for the venue, though. Could use some jewelry. Is there a rule that you have to dress skanky if you’re under 30?

    • eowyn_of_rohan

It’s not about being “skanky” as much as it is having a look that holds any visual interest whatsoever.

      • VeryClaire

It seems like anytime someone young strays away from skanky they get the “MOB” accusation. I think it’s pretty!

        • demidaemon

It’s a little dull and designless from the front, though. And the color is totally unflattering for her.

  • Eve Farren Farber

What exactly is she famous for?

    • Jaeda Laurez

She’s one of the kids on Glee. Very nice voice too.

    • Fordzo

      Isn’t (wasn’t) she on Glee?

    • filmcricket

She also had a Broadway career prior to Glee, although she was not as famous as Lea Michele, as I understand it.

Part of the sedateness may be that, IIRC, this was where a memorial foundation was announced for Cory Monteith that, either appropriately or ironically, is for kids to learn to dance. I do agree, however, that Jenna is rarely well served by anything her stylist gets her, so I could be all wrong about the motivations for this particular gown.

  • Diego!

Honey, that is a beautiful dress, but it is NOT for you. It makes her look broad on the chest and her breasts reach her belly button. Bad fitting indeed!

  • kimmeister

If the dress straps had only been where her swimsuit straps obviously were, it would have been much more flattering!

I’ll never be able to get behind wearing rings on every finger of a hand though.

  • Fordzo

I don’t think the long, shaggy bangs are a good look for her. Her makeup is pretty, though. I like the lip color.

  • marlie

This is not unlike a bridesmaid dress that’s been hanging in the back of my closet for about 10 years now.

  • Danielle L

    Tan lines :(

  • Tatiana Luján

What a corny dress. The bow and the back look like they were designed by someone very fond of unicorns.
I love the hair and makeup.

  • appliquer

    Love you guys!

  • Karen Belgrad

Wow… I wonder if she at least caught the bouquet…

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I’ve seen Jenna in this color quite a few times and I have to disagree that it is a good color or her (or for pretty much anyone who isn’t collecting Social Security). She looks much better (and younger) IMHO in brighter colors.

  • The Versatile Chef

    OMG LAWRENCE WELK SHOW.

    It’s Norma Fucking Zimmer.

    • decormaven

Norma never would have worn such a blah color, though. This is a snoozefest of a dress. Ambien on parade.

      • The Versatile Chef

Norma’s would have been Sunshine Yellow.

  • conniemd

She’s young, famous and hot? You couldn’t prove it by these photos. She looks matronly.

  • AlisonS

Is it her makeup or is she just really stoned because I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look so….. Squinty before.

  • Ronica Skarphol Brownson

Her hair looks like she was cleaning the basement, found this dress at the bottom of a box of her ma’s old nightgowns, grabbed a clutch and shoes and ran out the door.

  • Darva Sutra

    titscrepancy.

  • Qitkat

If I squint my eyes, it’s kind of like a fog has descended upon her and she is gradually fading away into a wraith.

  • housefulofboys

Maybe it’s because I am mother of the bride age, but I think this is a very pretty dress, and her skin looks really pretty in that shade of gray. Maybe some colorful jewelry would have help zuzh it up a bit. Her eye makeup is doing her no favors, though, in most of the pictures I can’t even tell that she has eyes!

  • harlowish

I feel like the color might be a good one for Jenna in a different outfit, but it’s not working for me here. And I think this outfit would have looked almost pretty if it had been in a more vibrant color.

  • snarkykitten

Total mom of the bride dress

  • http://frederickvegetarian.wordpress.com sixgables

She looks like she’s about to give a piano concert. A little interest in the back for the folks seated to the left of the stage.

  • Ann VerWiebe

Are we not talking about how squinty she is?

  • mhleta

The tan lines are where you want the dress straps to be. Much more flattering that way. Still, I don’t hate this because it’s so soft and easy and doesn’t overpower her beauty.

  • TLJezebel

    Lawrence Welk? LMFAO

    • ballerinawithagun

I know! Brings back horrible childhood memories…First she could play the piano, something bouncy, then she would sing and then get up and dance with her partner who would magically appear! Now I’ve got it…Shall We Dance? from the King and I, except even bouncier because it is Lawrence Welk!

  • msdamselfly

I think it’s kind of lovely

  • Imasewsure

She should have just gone for the giant Welk Show hair too… would have been a lot more fun… this is just dull bridesmaid as is

  • largishbearishAtlish

No gay would let her out of the house showing tan lines. Stop. Turn around, you are not leaving the house. Surely she has one (even ugly as this) dress that can hide the tan strap lines? Surely there is one of the dozens of Project Runway contestants who could loan her….something? even the untalented ones?

  • teensmom99

    Do love the color.

  • KikiAvocado

She has a real woman’s body ( read: not stick thin) and she just never hits it out of the park….does she prefer to be modest/subtle, or does she have a bad stylist?

    • NoveltyRocker

“Stick thin” women aren’t any less real. They are just real thin.

  • amanda lynn

    bridesmaid gown.

  • Dagney

    no.

  • LaSylphide

Ugly, unflattering color. And that’s the first time I’ve seen tan lines that obvious in about forty years. At least tone them down with some make or something.

  • judybrowni

How the hell can something that low cut make a young woman look matronly?

But it manages to age her dreadfully.

  • bertkeeter

Bridge n Tunnel Bridesmaid! Also if you get sun, try and avoid tan lines…uber amatuerish for the Red Carpet!

  • Lesley

very mother of the bride… yikes.

  • Erica_Vuitton

I’m fine with Glee stars refraining from over the top color in the wake of their castmates death. Can we please cut these people in mourning a break from the bitchy?

  • Stacy Feng

Jenna, as one of the few well-known Asians in show biz, you need to bring it! No excuses! If A- is an Asian F, this is a C!
