I wanna be a tall skinny androgynous person so I can get away with wearing all this stuff. Jeezus do I love this man’s work.

      • StellaZafella

Have you ever seen Terry Gillium’s “Brazil”? This just makes me go there.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh yeah. I went there too. Also to “The Fifth Element”

          • Ramon Figueroa

Well, he did design the clothes for the movie. Such fun.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

What took me back there was all the leopard in the collection. (grin)

            • StellaZafella

The Black Pantsuit with the Leopard Cuffs gives me a Katherine Helmond high…complete to the shoe on her head.

            • Rhonda Shore

He was the mastermind behind Grace Jones’ image in the 80s…i don’t know if they’re on YouTube but she was in his TV ads on French television, they are absolutely brilliant! LOVE HIM.

            • Rhonda Shore

I tried to delete this comment, i was confusing him w/Jean Paul Goude for a moment, but there wasn’t a Gaultier/Jones connection (that I’m aware of). Still love these clothes though!

          • maggiemaybe

The Fifth Element exactly! All of these looks would be entirely appropriate for Fhloston Paradise…

          • Darren Nesbitt

            RUBY RHOD!!!!

          • KateShouldBeWorking

I got Blade Runner socialite of a certain age.

        • TheAmericaness

That’s funny cause I thought of that X-rated film that Helen Mirren & Dumbledore were in (and I can’t think of the name of it!! – and I don’t feel like googling or I’ll see the “your disk is almost full” crap sign) where her dress changes color depending on the room she is in? It’s horribly violent and I watched it once – but this line totally made me think Gambino + Madonna + that movie. Sorry for the vague post. *eyeroll*

          • Victor Beiramar Diniz

the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover, directed by peter greenaway with music by nyman and gaultier at his best

          • StellaZafella

It’s a sure sign of the impact of an artist’s work when it evokes sense memories…I personally love it when I’m moved to ask myself, “What was the name of that film?” by the mere sight of a certain attitude or silhouette. Example: “A curl of cigarette smoke in a darkened room” brings to mind a whole library of memories personal and cinematic, from Blade Runner to The Maltese Falcon…and the first night I spent with a man. :>)

          • anneland

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover ??

            • TheAmericaness

              That’s it!! Thank you!

          • ankali

Gaultier did such an amazing job with those costumes. That whole movie was overdesigned in absolutely the best way.

      • formerlyAnon

What clotheshorses we’d have been if born tall, skinny & androgynous! *sigh*

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

A world full of Tildas and Bowies

      • MilaXX

        Alex Pejic say, “you’re welcome”

        • DonnaL

Are you thinking of Andrej Pejic?

          • MilaXX

Yes, my bad spelling rears it ugly head yet again.

      • j_anson

I actually think many of these dresses would work best on a woman with an amazing hourglass figure – more so than many collections.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

One of the many reasons I adore this man and his work is his unabashed desire to treat every body type with honor. His clothes, though usually shown on typical models, are often designed with an eye to other shapes and proportions. As well, he often includes differently shaped, (and aged) people in his shows.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I am getting so confused by Spring 2014 and Fall 2013 collections showing at the same time.

Anyhoo, 7th down, black coat and leopard cincher – LOVE.

      • ballerinawithagun

This is Couture Fall 2013 not RTW Spring 2014. Couture is shown closer to the season because it is custom and doesn’t have to manufacture the line.

    • cmb123

I covet the black coat that is paired with the red dress and hat (right below the pink leopard thing, 16th down) I need it and want it and have to have it.

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

That coat is to DIE for!

    • kimmeister

I bought a pair of leopard print tights in my teens, but then I realized they made me look like I had a weird skin disease.

I’m in love with many of the jackets. I particularly like the camel colored one with alternating strips of fabric and leather.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I feel the same way about those nude lacy ones – they look like a bad rash.

      • DuBey2

If you mean the jacket w/the matching leather skirt, I love it, too. This whole line is certainly Art, and SO interesting to look/stare at. Most of It may not be wearable art, off the runway, but it is Art.

    • TAGinMO

Couple o’ needle-scratches in there, but you can’t deny this is a Collection-with-a-capital-C. Overall: LOVE.

      • Lucymaybe

The birth canal chiffon veil did that for me.

    • Victor Beiramar Diniz

his references are all over the place, aren’t they? there’s old school saint laurent, with a dash of lacroix and some serge lutens here and there…
i just don’t see much of unadulterated old school gaultier in it

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Grrrrrrrr baby! (it’s all i’ve got)

    • Qitkat

THIS is how couture is done. Thematic, astonishing, beautiful, visionary, impeccable.
The devil (or God) is, as always, in the details.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

        Amen, Baby, amen.

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

This. Its worlds apart from the others.

    • mjude

      love

    • Danielle L

In LUST with the second picture. Just.. all of it.

      • marlie

Me too! I LOVE that one. A chic modern twist on a classic look and silhouette.

    • formerlyAnon

Does it signify genius, or only talent and beautiful craftsmanship, that a collection with so many elements I dislike/could never wear/find ridiculous still leaves me gobsmacked with its awesomeness??

(I irrationally despise animal print, could not wear hip-enhancing giant pockets/saddlebags, and think most of the heavily quilted pieces are ungracefully bulky. And yet . . .)

      • majorbedhead

Right? I had the same reaction. I shouldn’t be liking this, but man, I really really like it. Some gorgeous stuff. Some silly stuff. Overall, pretty amazing stuff.

    • aplomb

A few real clunkers but, overall: breathtaking!

    • sablehunter

Love this full stop. The animal print stockings are amazing.

    • Airkisses

13th pic from the bottom: Did anybody else think Firefox Dress? :)

    • Denise Alden

      Mostly Gaga, a little Lady.

    • CNM

Reminds me of The Hunger Games somehow.

      • MilaXX

        Capitol Couture!

    • http://dentsdelait.tumblr.com/ Nancy Marion

Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadisches Ballett all up in here!

    • MzzPants

      Chic bitches, Gaultier style. LURV.

    • Sunraya

Some beautiful coats and tailoring! Hate the half boob pieces. Hope Heidi K doesn’t see them!

    • Sagecreek

Apparently phallocentric is in this year?

      • formerlyAnon

I kept thinking about boxes of new crayons.

    • KirFla

      I die.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

I can see The Nanny wearing all this looks, I love them. Miss Coco and Stam in this runway..

    • MoHub

In spite of the fact that they’re not actually smiling, I get the impression that the models are having a great time with this collection.

    • MoHub

It feels to me like a new, updated take on the Dior “New Look” from the late 1940s, and I like what I’m seeing.

    • KayEmWhy

Love the second to the last look. That expression is priceless

    • Shawn EH

Everthing’s flattering except for the insane pockets! Salma Hayek needs to run right over! Love the brown shift, the red/black evening moment, and those Ziggy Stardust jackets.

    • MilaXX

Interesting. I like some of the dramatic pieces and more editorial pieces, but then there are some looks that are just plain tacky. Two looks I want to see translated to the the RC; The brown babydoll with the purple and yellow hem. Throw away all the runway styling and this could be cute on a 20 something, and the celery green strapless. It looks like something Cate Blanchet would wear and blow everyone away.

      • Gwyndall

The brown babydoll… you mean the Hershey’s Kiss costume?

        • MilaXX

I totally didn’t see that until you said it.

    • Ramon Figueroa

Drama. To paraphrase “L’invitation au voyage”: Luxe, et voluptee.

    • Jackie4g

Ode to Thierry Mugler. He’s all over the place!

    • j_anson

Yawning through the first two thirds (seriously, is the Russian mob boss’s moll look just IN this season?) but then I got interested at the end. I love that some of these are hip-tastic in a way that’s clearly saying that super-curvy, look-at-my-hourglass hips are beautiful, not just that they’re weirdly proportioned in a “fashion” way.

    • MK03

Please tell me at least one model screamed “GET ME THOSE PUPPIES!!” when she got to the end of the runway.

    • hughman

Brill. I love the nods to Claude Montana, the Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat, a dash of Thierry Mugler – all without being a copy cat.

      Tongue in Chic, indeed.

      • Qitkat

Your comment lead me to search about Montana, as I’m not familiar with him. Along the way, I found a Vanity Fair archived article from 1996 titled “Death by Design” about his wife, the model Wallis Franken Montana. It pulls the reader into the often heartbreaking, dark and disturbing side to glamour and fame in the fashion industry. Makes one realize never to underestimate the price/cost beauty can exact.
/Apologies for a downer comment/ It just made me realize anytime someone might think of fashion as superficial (not that anyone is saying this here), it’s a human story in the end, with all its complications and messiness.

        • hughman

I used to see them ages ago at the Roxy disco in NYC (on Saturday night when it was packed with boys). She always looked fun and was having a good time. He was so dour and mousy and looked bitter.

          • Qitkat

Fascinating. In the article, that is exactly how most people described them. Sadly he abused her, and she was often putting on an act in public, but feeling insecure and worthless when alone with him. He didn’t sound as if he had many redeeming qualities except as a designer.

    • EttaKit

Cruella de Vil is drooling over this collection! Love it

    • Imasewsure

What a gorgeous show. Love the crazy hair and hats – and even the pieces I don’t like, I kind of love which is what couture is supposed to feel like to mere mortals like me!

    • Jaeda Laurez

LOVE LOVE LOVE. These jackets and coats are amazing; he’s one of my favorite designers.

    • MoHub

Can’t you just see the Divine Carmen in the last outfit? Pure diva.

    • MitchellGilburne

it’s fashion meets fascism in the land of Oz

    • filmcricket

Art Deco meets “Dynasty.” In Russia.

    • Nicole Walraven

adore gaultier (probably my favorite designer), and some of these pieces are perfection, but over all…meh? i don’t know, maybe its my mood today, or the clouds rolling in after a week of sun, but this seems to lack the usual playfulness that i love in his work. maybe i’ll come back to it later and see if i get more feels from it.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Love this, except for the four legged pants.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

If you can get past the Pagliacci clown hats there are actually some interesting pieces here. It appears that the model in the last pic is about to throw it down with someone!

    • In_Stitches

Feels like a polished version of Project Runway looks and I mean that in the best way possible.

    • Pudgy Possum

Some of these pieces are outstanding! I just love the structure of them all! Nonetheless, the lineup doesn’t always look like a cohesive vision, and some of those clothes are look unfitted.

    • BrooklynBomber

Wow, what a show. Adore some of the pieces, hate others, but what a fabulous show!

    • call_me_schmeg

crazy 1940s cindy lou who drag on acid

    • joanna dash

The only miss for me is the purple Maleficent gown. It’s way too Disney villainess for me. I am in lust with the strapless mint green brocade dress and the velvet elbow gloves…swOOn.

    • Mrs. Julien

In real life, I dress like a Vatican II nun, but GOD DAMN do I love Gaultier!

    • ballerinawithagun

      For myself? The fuchsia leopard!!!

    • Ediths_Head

The fur-lined hoodie with the kangaroo pocket would be most righteous for walking the dog. I guess it works as a dress too.

    • marlie

Quite a few really beautiful, interesting pieces, but JPG definitely brought the crazy, as his usual.

    • Vanja

The last one reminds me of David Bowie’s ‘Ashes to Ashes’ Pierrot costume.
I love that black coat with the red skirt.

      • decormaven

        Like minds!

    • JauntyJohn

      I LOVE this.

    • decormaven

Some of the quilting effect and hats makes me think of David Bowie’s outfit in the Ashes to Ashes video. Stunning use of fabrics.

    • Synnamin

This feels like Klaus Nomi in clothing form

    • somebody blonde

LOVE IT. It’s like someone imagined the rest of Cruella DeVil’s wardrobe while high. I kept saying “Fab. Fab,” for every picture as I scrolled down. A couple clunkers, but well… FAB!

    • Anniebet

Love the animal print accents, especially the legwear. Lots of this collection is jaw-dropping gorgeous, some just jaw- dropping – those pocket thingies are atrocious. Also, I’m wondering who let the stripper on the runway (next to last pic).

    • Dan_In_NYC

There is some great drama in there mixed with a more than ample dose of Miss Universe National Costume…

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Yes to all of this, please and thank you.

    • https://twitter.com/athoughtfultree Robin Yé Chen

Oh, I love Jean Paul; at least he’s consistently bat-shit-crazy fabulous. The pipe lining looks strange, though. Liu Wen looks fabulous!

    • teensmom99

I want so much of it. Of course, my my husband and daughter will refuse to be seen with me if I wear those hats but that will be their loss.

    • Sarah Winningham

I would looove to see Christina Hendricks in that black dress, 20 down with the turquoise sparkly hat.

    • crash1212

Rawr! Love this. That read outfit is to die.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

      Magnificent in every respect.

    • Richard

It’s not the prettiest collection around, but it’s so much fun. It’s fierce as hell, and it’s totally DRAGtastic. I can see a crowd of hungry little queens fighting over these outfits. That should be a mini challange in the next season of RPDR.

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

I want the black coat in the second pic. Time to find husband # 2.

    • Pennymac

This collection shows like this: “Love, Love, Love, Clunk. Love, Love, Clunk, Clunk.love, Clunk, ad infinitum” Some breathtaking stuff with occasional whack-a-doo for good measure. I like the hosiery.

    • JulieTy

Love this collection. Look #2 reminds me of Vera Ellen’s FAB “getting off the train” outfit in “White Christmas.” Which. I. WANT.

    • lizajane1776

I hate animal print, particularly leopard, but I love this! Those tights! Those dinky little hats!

    • Synnae

How can you not love JPG. Wacky, crazy, over the top but beautifully made, tailored and dare I say it, for the most part remarkably wearable. Granted, some of it only if you are Gaga, Rihanna, or RuPaul, but that black coat/dress (2nd pic) is a mega-want. And that purple dress (sans Pterodactyl wings) needs to find itself into my closet tonight!

    • Kate4queen

It’s just so beautifully cut and styled that even if I could never imagine wearing it, I can appreciate the artistry. :)

    • DilettanteDeconstructed

      I need those stockings

    • Corsetmaker

Love! Not as corset heavy as some of his collections – that’s the first thing I scroll through looking for :) But still, Love!

    • demidaemon

The penultimate model looks like she walked in from the bar after being there all day.

    • conniemd

Love the collection, though some individual pieces I hate, others take my breath away with the life they give and the artistry.

    • understateddiva

Finally, some capital-F Fashion at the couture shows!

    • TSkot

      Fa-bu-LOUS!

    • quiltrx

It’s all very JPG, in the best meaning of the phrase. And all the jackets/coats/capes (except the big ol’ feathery one) are cut-a-bitch fabulous!

ETA: I LOVE the last look AND her pose. “I’m fabulous and I’m getting married, bitches!”

    • PrunellaV

Suddenly wishing to see Duchess Kate in this stuff. Must have been the hats. Can you imagine?

    • sekushinonyanko

Are you trying to seduce me Mrs. Robinson?

      Because it is working.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

      OMG LOVE!!
Referencing every decade from the 30’s to the 90’s…..LOVE the Noir stuff. And the fur – which I really really hope isn’t real.

    • ankali

Goddamn GENIUS. I can’t get over how sharp and perfect everything is — like a fashion illustration come to life. And I’m amazed by how the saddle-bags don’t make the hips look big, but make the waist look small. I cannot love this hard enough.

    • Levedi

So I’m seeing straight up Mob Wife until you get to the red suit and then it’s pretty much all Fifth Element from there on out. (Not that that’s a bad thing…)

    • ItsDicey

Effing furrocious. Adore the futuristic/5th Element designs (as others have noted). Leeloo!

    • Puckndc

Great collection…..killer fabrics, love the whole 40’s space movie hits the runway vibe!

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

Fourth from the top is so Scary Monsters/Super Creeps era David Bowie. There’s actually a lot of Bowie influence here, to my eye anyway.

    • anotherkate

What fabulous silliness! I love this. Both polished and fun.

    • Thundar99

I love JPG! And although I’m sure some would gasp…in looking at some of these pieces i can’t help but be reminded of Janell’s (sp) more successful looks from seasons past.

    • Ashleigh

      W O W

I love how you gave each look a whole “page”.
This is incredible fashion right here.
I just hope [and here's where my fashion knowledge is lacking] that no animals were harming to make these gorgeous clothes!

    • Diego!

      This is ART. Amazing!

    • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

      The coats!

    • SylviaFowler

Cindy Lou Who was working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens….

    • joything

      Oh, that was FUN!

    • Midge Andrews

They all look like extras at the party in “Crocodile Dundee.”

    • Kikishua

I just LOVE the hair. Leopard! Minarets!

    • save_the_hobbit

They may be tacky as hell but I’m not gonna lie, I would wear the **** out of those leopard print tights. I mean, it might be a bit overkill seeing as half my hair is actually leopard print, but I figure I might as well go full out.
