Idris Elba at the “Pacific Rim” Premiere

Posted on July 09, 2013

Something has gone terribly wrong here.

Idris Elba attends the European premiere of “Pacific Rim” in London, England.

A man this fine in a suit this gorgeous should look a hell of a sight better than this. Let this be a lesson to you boys: a tie and a properly buttoned jacket goes a long way in completing a look. That’s all he needed here to look close to perfect. Tsk.

We dig the shoes, but we’re thinking those white soles should be paired with something a little less traditional than this.

I almost thought they were boat shoes at first. This man deserves better styling than what is represented here.

    • Sarah V.

The shoes are a giant needle scratch for me. A better pair , a shave and a tie is required here.

      • Annarosa

        but he’s handsome anyway

    • RebeccaKW

I agree. While I like the shoes in general, they are definitely a more casual look and the shiny of the shoes versus the shiny of the suit are fighting.

  • LaSylphide

Any human being this gorgeous is above the rules.

  • Rand Ortega

Huh? What? Did you guys say something? My ears are ringing cause of the… thrill these pictures are giving me. OMG. This man is so f-ing gorgeous. Can’t wait for the LA premiere.

  • call_me_schmeg

i’m sorry, what were you saying? first i was looking at these pictures of idris elba and now, somehow, i’ve taken off my pants.

    • MrsAtaxxia

      The man is magical.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

He’s in the upcoming movie Pacific Rim, main character I think. Bad haircut in it, though.

        • MrsAtaxxia

Yup, plays the president who CANCELS THE APOCALYPSE WITH HIS AWESOME (also ginormous robots and Jax from Sons of Anarchy). I plan to see it in all the Ds and IMAXes. It will probably blow out my eyes and eardrums. I am totally ok with this.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

I just realized the title for this page includes the Movie. I’m an idgit. However, going to see it in all the Ds and IMAXes is certifiably awesome. Have you seen the featurettes for this? There’s like 4 of them, and each one gets me more and more excited to see it.

          • MrsAtaxxia

I had a big long comment but then it said something about moderation and so ill try again. Yes! I have. They all make me just want to throw money at everyone involved in this cause it looks rad sauce.

          • ankali

Ah yes, Godzilla vs. Voltron. I adore Idris Elba as all right-thinking people should, but I’ll give the film a miss. Just not my particular popcorn flavor.

    • Introspective

you won. but just the comments. not idris. cause im fighting you for him. seriously. 😉

  • MrsAtaxxia

It’s ok Idris, come right over here, we can take all that off and start over with a new outfit. Later.

    • Kate Andrews

      I get him next.

  • Shoulda been a pairs division…..

  • Vanja

That colour looks great on him. He is fine, isn’t he?

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

    Also, he needs a shave!

  • kim bunchalastnames

i think he looks beautiful, from head to toe. although maybe he should stand up a bit more.

  • JasmineAM

His pants are tailored to perfection. He should wear this color more often. I’m trying really hard to say something about his clothes and not about how fucking beautiful he is. I can’t wait for Luther to start again.

    • julnyes

      It has started already.

      • MilaXX

In the UK, we yanks have a few more months to go.

        • julnyes

          you are totally right 0_o

  • marlie

It’s an amazing color and it looks fab on him, but the suit does scream for a slightly more formal styling.

  • dorothea_brooke

My husband has shoes very similar to those. OMG I’m almost married to Idris Elba!

  • elleg929

Stringer Bell can do no wrong!!

  • Jessica Freeman

He’s wearing clothes? Because I only ever envision this man naked.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Season 3 of Luther has begun, and Idris can wear any damn thing he wants, or not…

  • RebeccaKW

At least his collar isn’t limp. Mmm, I bet there is nothing limp about him.

  • crash1212

I’m not mad at anything here – except maybe the shoes…and he’s welcome to ditch them under my bed anytime!

  • julnyes

    but that smile! (sighs)

  • Lilyana_F

Oh Lord, that’s one fine specimen of a man…

  • Silly Grrl

    There’s a suit?

  • carnush

I can’t look at him without getting all fluttery. Love the color of the suit.

    • MilaXX

Seriously, I have dreams about this man and that rumbling baritone voice if his.

      • formerlyAnon

        Oh. Lord. That. Voice.

  • GorgeousThings

Maybe he’s getting back at the filmmakers for naming his character “Stacker Pentecost” (say whaaaaat?)

    • Rand Ortega

Gawd… spare me from ‘auteurs’ & their ‘creative’ character names. I’ve had several arguments w/ these people on this subject more times than I’d like to recount. It can be excused coming from a newcomer (used to do it myself), but 1 would think someone of
del Toro’s experience & expertise would be beyond such puerility.

      • editrixie

I’m pretty willing to cut Guillermo a lot of slack on this one — he’s got a woman as a main character (Rinko Kikuchi) who’s not there to be a sidekick or a love interest or someone to be rescued, and he’s made a movie that he hopes will inspire kids. So I’m happy to let him have some really dumb names because he’s got people of color in major roles, and strong women. And Idris fucking Elba cancelling the apocalypse. Guillermo’s my kinda guy.

        • Rand Ortega

Oh, me too. Make no mistake, GdT is the coolest, most ingenious hyphenate out there. “Pan’s Labyrinth” is the most beautiful, heartbreaking, imaginative movie of the last decade. I have everything he’s done on DVD (he NAILED “Hellboy”) & I’m going to see this movie tonight squeeing w/ unbridled schoolgirl delight. Dumb & unrealistic character names are simply a pet peeve of mine that I thought 1 of my moviemaking hero’s would be above doing.

          • editrixie

I hear ya. Yeah, names can be…well. Right now I’m watching this new NBC show called Crossing Lines, which is filmed in Europe and with mostly Euro actors outside of William Fichtner, and in the first episode, they introduce FIchtner’s character to another one, “Inspector Sienna Pride of Scotland Yard.” I rolled my eyes so hard my head nearly came off. Glad to meet another Hellboy fan! I love that movie to death.

        • AnnPopovic

Saw it tonight. Sadly, the girl does need rescuing a bit but you know what? Who cares. Idris Elba says the only thing you care about listening to and the special effects are so out-of-this-world, makes-transformers look like the 80s cartoons they were, good lord it’s a carnival ride … can we please go again? Seriously. And bonus, Mr. Elba wears uniforms and tight futuristic flight suits that fit…well. They DO fit, yes they do!

          • editrixie

I finally saw it yesterday and I had SO MUCH FUN. I also really love Charlie Hunnam ever since Queer as Folk UK, and Max Martini is a HUGE fave, and he got a really nice chance to shine (as the dad in the Stryker team). Yes, those flight suits were… yum.

  • Jessica Goldstein

Love the shoes, totally get your point about the buttoning and the tie, but have to say he’s plenty, plenty fine to me. It’s a beautiful color on him, and he’s a very handsome man.

  • prettybigkitty

  • flamingoNW

A shave would have been nice…

  • MilaXX

Pffft all I see is a GORGOUS man!

  • Yolanda13

His stylist should get a stern talking to! But it is hard to make this man look bad and from where I stand, he still looks good to me. Nice suit, love the shoes!

  • Miss WKS

what..wait…did you say something…I seem to have been lost in a gorgeous smile….

  • JauntyJohn

Stylish, comfortable and well tailored. Un-ironic pocket square. Enough charisma to power Cleveland. Eyes with a look that reaches right through the lens. Fun, smart, non-silly, age appropriate/event appropriate shoes. Suit is a great fabric, and it is an exceptional color on him.
I need a moment to collect myself.

  • omg_dora

I think they’re just not the most flattering photos as he’s not standing up straight in any of them.

  • Shawn EH

Terribly wrong? Heimdall is the total package! White soles go with white polo, I’m thinking.

  • KayEmWhy

I don’t care what he’s wearing really, he could wear a paper bag and still would be hot.

  • AshBookworm

TLo: ‘Something has gone terribly wrong here.’

    Me: ‘Yeah, he’s wearing clothes.’

    • Lanus

      LOL, great minds think alike.

  • sparkleburnout

Even Idris can’t make those topsider booties work. But really, who cares- he’s divine.

  • majorbedhead

I think he should remove the jacket.

And then the shirt, and then the shoes, and then the pants. Then he’d look just fiiiiiiiiiine. Just fine.

  • Judy_S

He is gorgeous. Sorry about the buttons and white soles, boys.

  • lobsterlen

On him I don’t even mind the scruffy face. Goes to show certain charming beautiful people can literally pull off any look.

  • Lanus

    Too many clothes. A travesty.

  • amber.

I’m going to disagree. He looks great. He looks fantastic.

  • bellafigura1

Oh my goodness, mega-disagree. He is delicious and perfection and wow.

  • housefulofboys

Hmm, he can look this “bad” any day of the week as far as I’m concerned. I actually think the photographer caught him at an awkward moment – other pics from this event have him standing up straighter and without his hands behind his back. Agree that the shoes were an awkward choice. Even so, a fine specimen of a man, and what a sexy smile!

  • gubblebumm

okay, lets just strip him down and start from scratch!!!

(btw I have no problem with the styling, he is a MAN and sure looks like one regardless)

  • Anniebet

Such a damn fine actor, and pretty delicious to boot. I can’t find a damn thing wrong with the way he looks, and apparently most of us BKs agree he’s fine the way he is.

  • Yeah I love it – he looks like the blue sky.

  • Nope. Sorry guys. New. Desktop. Background.

  • conniemd

I have serious doubts that the fronts of the jacket meet in the center enough to button. It looks like the jacket is too small.

  • Cordelia_Gray

I always read what TLO have to say about outfits. Always….except in this case. Excuse me while I go back to enjoying the gorgeous that is Mr. Elba, lack of tie be damned.

  • cygirl

You know what would make the outfit? Take your shirt off, Idris. Reallllll slow.

  • Qitkat

He’s gorgeous in blue and white.

    • LaSylphide

He’s gorgeous in anything. Or out of.

      • formerlyAnon

        He’s gorgeous. Full stop.

  • quiltrx

I agree…he’s gorgeous no matter what, but a snazzy tie and some different shoes would really take this over the top.

  • Kimberlini

I actually like the look of this suit with a polo and casual shoes. But to tell you the truth, I spend more time staring into those gorgeous eyes.

  • formerlyAnon

Wrong? WRONG? At the risk of echoing 30 of the preceding 70 comments I haven’t read: If loving this is wrong I don’t wanna be right.

I know I am not worthy of conversation or anything more personal, but PLEEASE Mr. Elba, come sit in my living room for a while and read something aloud to me – Shakespeare, the phone book, I’m not fussy. I’ll go out and buy a brand new chair, just for you . . .

  • largishbearishAtlish

Wayne Brady and Tyler Perry’s love child?

  • Contralto

Sweet Jesus, that man is hotter than fire. And the only thing wrong with those shoes is that they’re not under my bed.

  • Supernumerary

I adore Idris Elba, Perfect Human Being, but those trousers are distracting — and not for the obvious reason. I can’t look at that shade of blue and those particular trousers without picturing the powder blue leisure suit my grandfather wore to my parents’ wedding. Awkward.

    • snarkykitten

if this suit wasn’t so shiny, it would be a dead ringer for the suit my father wears to special occasions.

      yes. wears. present tense.

      • Supernumerary

Please inform your father that someone on the internet thinks he is amazing.

  • sunnycalif

His name should be Bond, James Bond! Please cast him in the next Bond film!!

  • altissima

Suit shmoot … Who cares what he’s wearing? I’m lost in his eyes, and that wicked smile.

  • onebyland

White soled shoes are everywhere it seems. Just watch the talk shows, TV talent shows. Get with it, folks!
