Gwen Stefani at LAX

Posted on July 29, 2013

From the neck up, she looks like Negative-Image Cher.

Gwen Stefani and her boys head into LAX.

Ooooooooooh, we don’t know, Gwen…

The outfit’s fine for LAX, but we’re not entirely on board with the Cher hair and the head band. There are some rocker-chick looks even you can’t pull off. Although we suspect we’re going to hear vigorous disagreement from the Precious Unborn Fawns of our comments section.

I will be the first to disagree. I don’t really care for this look on her at all.

  • Julie Chase

Every time I see a woman with a headband like that I wish to god I had stowed kiddie scissors in my purse.

  • Stella Zawistowski

I dig this, even though she’s probably giving herself stankboot.

    • Loola234

I thought stankboot was boots with no socks. Boots with socks (which clearly she could be wearing) are just boots?

Hair/headband look ridic – outfit looks comfy and bag looks normal (a good thing)…

      • Anne At Large

Maybe because she’s in LA in July? I don’t know, the boots are my favorite part of the whole outfit (but I am also not in LA in July).

  • Jessica Freeman

It’s a No in my opinion.

  • nyazgirl

I actually love it. Casual yet cool. Even the headband.

    • Rhonda Shore

      Yep! Super!

    • Cz

I agree. Those pants just look so comfortable and perfect for a long plane ride.

      I’m apathetic to the headband.

  • Emily Giovanni

I am totally without opinion about the outfit. I just want that bag. It looks so comfy!

  • SewingSiren

    Fashion hippie.

  • Sobaika

Nope. I’m not opposed to the headband like that in general, it’s just not for Gwen.

    • RebeccaKW

Same. I would have liked to see her in a head scarf. Something with more impact.

      • d4divine

A scarf! Excellent idea…a graphic detail or pop of color would make the outfit look a lot better…or at least not as sloppy

  • majorbedhead

Yeah, no. Not liking any of this look at all.

  • HVM

I’m meh on this. Her shtick is getting old.

  • MilaXX

I give her a pass on the hair, but that head band is a step too far.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I’m fine with the outfit, but the hair is a definite no. The headband is bad enough, but that over-ironed, flyaway nonsense? No, thank you.

  • sweetlilvoice

I like the hair but cannot get behind something tied around her waist like that. Never flattering. The bag looks smushy and fun though!

  • HomeOfficeGirl

The headband bugs… and the camo tie around and oversize sun glasses. It all seems “grunge gratuitous” – like trying way too hard to look like she wasn’t trying…

  • jmorino08

Negative image Che? I almost spit out my coffee at that one! Bravo!

  • teensmom99

Even though in general I am a straight hair hater and don’t like those hippie headbands, I actually really love the way Gwen looks here. She’s a woman with a strong sense of her own style and I love that she’s actually doing something different here. I really didn’t recognize her at first and I think that’s kind of fun since she is usually so recognizable. And kind of love negative image Cher. Don’t want to see too much of this but I love this on her for travel.

  • Aaminah Khan

I just want to know how she flat-ironed her hair like that without making it look completely dead, as it does when every other celeb ever tries it. Truly, the ways of La Stefani are a mystery to us mere mortals.

  • aahlife

If Gwen wishes to arrive truly incognito, she should not wear red lipstick. It is her signature. Without it here, I doubt she would be so recognizable.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

What’s funny, is she’ll likely land wearing a fresh top and with a different hair style. This is fine. She’s got her own way of doing things and I appreciate anytime a celebrity looks like the experience of flying is the same for them as it for us commoners. Carry on Rocker Mom.

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I dress like this when I walk my dog. It gets hot, so I remove my sweater or sweatshirt and tie it around my waist. This headband would look good on a select few back in the sixties or seventies. No exceptions.

  • Qitkat

This serves to make me miss my sixties self. Carry on, Gwen. It’s fun to go there once in a while ;-)

  • Tamara Hogan

The headband and sunglasses move this look into the dreaded “trying too hard” territory for me…

    • H2olovngrl

Whoops! I just said darn near the exact same thing! I shoulda scrolled down!

  • H2olovngrl

What with the round glasses and the pressed hair and headband…I just see someone who is TRYING TOO HARD.

  • crash1212

I love everything about this look – except the hair.

  • Just Me

No. Sorry, but no. Put away the Cher hair and let us not speak of it again. It’s what real friends do for each other.

  • conniemd

Those boots are ridiculous. It’s July in LA for pete’s sake.

  • Agador Spartacus

So when a celebrity goes to catch a plane from LAX (private jets, not withstanding), do they have some special celebrity waiting area where they’re sequestered away from the general population? I can’t imagine any celebrity just sitting around at Gate 23B, waiting to board a plane.

    • Lori

TTBOMK there’s no celebrity room at LAX, but there are definitely first class only lounges that the vast majority of people can’t get into.

  • mmebam

I tend to associate those kind of headbands with the bohemian look, which isn’t really her thing.

    • kimmeister

Yeah, I’d expect to see it on Nicole Richie, not Gwen.

  • crackineggs

She looks just like my PJ Barbie doll I had when I was a kid…

  • Eric Stott

If she’s going for ironic, she’s good. If she’s serious, it’s not good.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love her. This outfit is terrible. Too far. Plus I will never get the “I tied a shoelace around my forehead” look, no matter who’s doing it.

  • formerlyAnon

Props for photos which do not show her kids’ faces.

Also, I kind of love everything about this – in a celebs! just like us! kind of way – except for the headband. Some silly trends should be left un-resurrected.

    • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

In light of the recent conversation I had with the paps waiting for Hillary Duff to leave the infant class with her baby, I, too, am happy that we cannot see her kids’ faces.

I’d like to know who is responsible for this. Did a rare photographer with ethics frame his pictures so that her body was hiding them or did she accomplish this on her own? Is it by chance? Or were there other shots that did show the kids, but T and Lo chose the ones that did not?

Sure, I’m curious to know what her boys look like, but not at the expense of their privacy.

  • Tanya Wade

I love a well-deployed baseball ringer shirt, but the craft-fair $2 headband special is a pass.

  • PeggyOC

No one. I repeat NO ONE looks good in a headband.

  • JuliaInBlack

I thought Gwen could do no wrong in my eyes, but… she has a shoelace tied around her head.

  • Sorena

    Sarah Connor realness

  • jen

The hair and the headband are ridiculous. Leave that shit to the 18 year olds, Gwen.

  • d4divine

I don’t mind the outfit….but that headband IS the deal breaker.

  • marlie

I’m not a fan of this look. A rare miss for a casual outfit for Ms. Stefani.

  • d4divine

Yeah…headbands need to go…they look ridiculous on everybody…so NOT modern…so trend crack

  • Danielle L

Purses made from windbreaker material should all be burned.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Naah, you won’t hear any dissent from me. And I love her to ridiculous bits and pieces, and even I wouldn’t sign off on this.

  • ampg

Am I allowed to give her props for going Royal Tennenbaums with her kids’ airport outfits?

  • JauntyJohn

Cool boots, but the headband is just… no. Even you, Gwen, have fashion and accessory limits, few though they may be.

  • Shawn EH

No, she looks like crap here. Much better when she sticks to different versions of Betty Page if she wants to skew earlier decades.

  • Imasewsure

No complaints here. She looks a little foolish… comfy… but foolish

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

It looks sloppy, which isn’t what I expect from her. Of course, everyone has days when they don’t give a flying flip.

  • guest2visits

It’s a good thing she’s got the long legs to make the huge boots that she likes to wear look pretty good.
I just don’t like the bag – it almost looks like a down coat that does a conversion into a purse.
I don’t know of anything in my bag that needs to be that toasty.

  • ItsDicey

    Yeah…no. Not her best.

  • librarygrrl64

Yeah, can’t get on board with this hair.
