Eva Mendes in New York City

Posted on July 11, 2013

We just adore this lady’s street style. It’s part multi-culti and part 1940s Hollywood starlet. It’s a perfect mix and it’s uniquely hers among the celebrity set. We really can’t name any off the top of our heads that nail this look so consistently. Sometimes Rihanna comes close but she usually takes it in a sexier/flashier direction than this.

Eva Mendes out and about in New York City

Easy-breezy and head-turning at the same time. Girl can rock the shit out of a head scarf, some chunky jewelry and a pair of wedges, that’s for sure.

This is perfect for the weather we’ve been having in New York. She looks cute and cool and comfortable.

  • Introspective

love this. like salma going into letterman, its youthful and easy. and striking. works with all her assets and against none. snaps girl.

    • Little_Olive

      Katie Holmes, take note.

  • OrigamiRose

    She looks great.

  • Inspector_Gidget

Nice. She’s even pulling off the “don’t photograph me, dammit” vibe.

    • Rhonda Shore

and even the flesh-tone shoe looks good here!

      • housefulofboys

You are so right! A flesh-toned straw sandal is world’s away from the horrific putty hoofs. I’d like a pair of those sandals myself.

  • teensmom99

WERQ for sure. But since when was she the por man’s JLo? She’s always been number 1 in my book.

  • AmeliaEve

I’m a major scarf fan, and I love the way she uses it to pull together the colors of the outfit and the necklace. That is the meaning of accessories.

  • Sobaika

Besides being Latina, those two aren’t even remotely in the same schools.

  • Sobaika

I applaud any woman who can work a headscarf and not look like a caricature. It’s a fine line.

    • kimmeister

Unfortunately, I think I’m on the wrong side of that line, even though I can work hats like crazy. Curses!

  • flamingoNW

Love it all. You couldn’t pay me to wear those shoes, though. They look crazy uncomfortable

    • MoHub

A flat sandal would have worked better. At least it would have on me.

      • housefulofboys

She doesn’t have the longest legs in the world, though, and I bet she was trying to avoid stumpifying her legs with that shorts length.

    • kimmeister

I hate it when your toes try to become escape artists in between sandal straps!

      • flamingoNW

Exactly! Those are two-block shoes at best….

      • MoHub

That is more often the fault of the shoe designers. They never seem to understand that pinkie toes are shorter that the other eight.

  • mjude

    very cute

  • Sarah Thomas

It’s like if Amy Winehouse got her shit together.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

      Kisses to the sky :)

  • MoHub

    She almost looks real!

  • WittyCism

In the first two shots, I thought this was a romper. Among all my clothes, I only have one, and damn, I hate getting undressed just to pee. Other than that thought, I love a woman who isn’t afraid to wear loose clothing. A woman shouldn’t have to wear skin-tight/sheer/bare, etc. 24/7 just to remind people they’re sexy.

  • Jessica Freeman

    I thought the same thing.

  • mmebam

    I desperately want this outfit.

  • Denise Alden

In my dream life, I look just like Eva in a headscarf. I’d wager that the Gosling has met his match.

  • appliquer

I love everything about this look – WERQ!

  • MilaXX

Easy, breezy, real world looking. I could almost believe she picked this from her own closet instead of a stylist. Love it all!

  • StellaZafella

A little N’yawk and a little Hollywood: BoHo Canyon Chic…in a very good way!

  • Meg0GayGuys6

To borrow from Mitch Hedburg… I love the cranium accessories! That’s the part of her “look” that I love the most.

  • FancyPhilly

This look is giving me a 21st Century Frida Kahlo vibe and I like it!

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

    Chic.

  • marlie

Great print, and love the color. But… is it a ROMPER? I don’t think I could fully get behind a grownup onesie.

    • Lori

It’s two matching pieces. You can see in a couple of the photos that the top isn’t attached to the bottom.

      • marlie

Oh, ok. I need to pay closer attention, then. WHEW!

  • sweetlilvoice

Head scarf is adorable on her.

  • SewingSiren

    Carmen Miranda realness.

  • ballerinawithagun

    Very ’90s!

  • jen

Love her deployment of head scarves and turbans! She always looks so good.

  • PeaceBang

Oh, this is simply FABULOUS. Head to toe snaps.

  • Ashley Alvarez

Do you think she has a stylist? Or one who works only for her? I feel like she might just have some crazy fine funky taste but it’s a wonder to me that no one else has tried to work this look this summer.

And she does this 1940s thing all the time, even on the red carpet. I love it.

  • decormaven

This is summer style, personified. Love that necklace!

  • Anniebet

Dad gummit…she’s perfect. The scarf is the star here, but everything is put together impeccably and with flair.

  • Calinda_L

I particularly like how she’s basically wearing the same outfit as the lady in red walking behind her, in that they’re both wearing cute little summer dresses that look good for walking around the city (their purses are even similar, though probably not when it comes the price tags). The only difference is that Eva went all out on te accessories. I like when a starlet (or star, for that matter) looks like she’s wearing real clothes and wasn’t just dropped into the scene from some sort of costume helicopter.

  • Sara__B

    Summer perfect.

  • Danielle L

I need a headband like that in my life.

  • housefulofboys

I have a picture of my mom sitting on a sailboat at the Outer Banks of NC in 1938-39 (right before we got into WWII) wearing a shorts sets like this, even down to little ankle-strap sandals (although hers were flats). The fabric was not quite so tribal, but still an allover pattern. Love Eva’s street style so much.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Damn, do I need to learn to tie a head scarf like that. It’s raining (FINALLY) but the humidity does my hair no favors at all.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

    I WANT ALL OF THIS.
Seriously. Though now that I look at it more closely, it looks like she’s wearing a matched shirt/shorts combo, which I’m not sure how I feel about. But I still kind of love the sum of it all.

  • stubbornthoughts

Love love LOVE. I covet all of her sunglasses.

I wish I could pull off the head scarf. She has 100% more ethnicity for it than myself. My freckles cry.

  • crash1212

LOVE! Fab in every way. I also love that little red dress photo bombing second panel from bottom.

  • Synnae

The more I see of her street style, the more I think she has genuine fashion sense and a good idea of what works for her. Just not sure about those wedges, I think her toes will be very happy when she kicks them off…

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Street WERQ!

  • ailujailuj

saw her on a flight outta JFK once… without her makeup, hair relaxed and held in place with a cute pair of gucci(?) sunglasses parked on her head, and wearing a James Perse-style button-down slub and a very familiar pair of jeans. comfortable, sexy, yet very pedestrian and appropriate for getting shuttled around like bovine in a stinky aluminum tube bus.
wanted to jump her right then.

  • PrunellaV

The outfit is just fine; the bun and head wrap are divine. I’m starting to like her in spite of myself.

  • ItsDicey

Dayum, girl looks sexier on the street than on the RC. By a mile. WERQ that head scarf. Said with a wee bit of jealousy.

  • ailujailuj

    ohwaitgoddammit!!
    WHERE IS RYAN?

  • omg_dora

I don’t know what you all are looking at, but I’m looking at bermuda shorts and a boxy blouse in an ugly-ass print. My mom dressed me like this in 4th grade. Those were dark times.

  • frumpybiscuits

I guess I”m alone in this opinion, but I feel like the headscarves/turbans that she wears age her horribly. It’s classy and interesting – but gosh she looks like a young grandma with them. And she is young and gorgeous!!
