Emma Roberts at the Atelier Versace Show

Posted on July 01, 2013

We’re so used to seeing her look kinda hipster-sloppy on the street and hipster-casual on the red carpet that this turned out to be something of a nice surprise.

Emma Roberts attends the Atelier Versace Fall 2013 show in Paris in head-to-toe Versace.

In fact, we like this look for her, even if we’re not huge fans of the dress. It’s just nice to see her in something sleek and chic. She wears white surprisingly well. We think the platforms on those shoes are just a bit much for a dress like this, but otherwise, this is a perfect look for her. Well done. You wouldn’t think a gal like her could handle Versace as well as this. Of course it helps that it’s practically minimalist for Versace.

Yes! Somehow she elevates the dress. Love the hair and make-up–which not every one could get away with.

  • Kinda loving this too, really. even teh platforms are working for me. After all, it IS Versace. a bit of OTT is needed.

    • StellaZafella

Emma even has the right type of eyes for this smokey 80’s look…this can easily make a woman’s eyes disappear into a dark pit, but here, they seem even bigger than usual.

      • Shawn EH

Raccoon eyes, I always love them!

  • Tess Danesi

She looks sleek and elegant but I don’t understand a dress with one long sleeve. I can just see myself being both hot and cold at once and losing my mind over it. This dress must be from the “softer side” of Versace.

  • TheAmericaness

Love it! For her age and all that jazz (JAZZ HANDS!) it looks perfect.

Edit: But boy does that pinky toe want to escape, does it not?

    • Sara

I was getting Julianne Moore flashbacks.

  • Clueless_Jock

The dress seems to reference Halston, or Gucci by Tom Ford in the 90s. It looks great on her.

  • Hmmmm. No. This is giving me Robert Palmer, Simply Irresistible flash backs.

    • TheAmericaness

Ha! Well, when you put it that way… lol

    • marlie

      And that’s a bad thing? 😉

    • Rhonda Shore

yet i like it! except the hair, i think a “Tressy doll” look with a high pony would have been the way to go…

    • I was thinking Basic Instinct!

      • I can see that too!! Oh lordy, I do hope she is wearing panties. With the last name Roberts, surely she won’t go for the attention seeking flashing moment.

    • StellaZafella

Robert Palmer’s designer for that album created a fashion look that has now been deeply associated with him…It was the 80’s so now it qualifies as a revival look. It’s cheap when done wrong but it’s still a classic form of chic done well…I want to give Emma props for doing it in Versace. IN, for me just for the effort…even though I doubt even Emma’s gays are old enough to know where this look came from.

      • Speaking of baby gays, I went bowling this weekend. While at the bar, getting my required White Russian, I saw the sign that said you must have been born by this date in 1992. Nine-teen-FUCKING-ninety-two. I cried a little. For reals.

        • StellaZafella

I’d have ordered 3, just to honor the multiple of times I’ve passed legal age and had them sent to the cutest people in the place…anonymously. Then I’d have sat back in a corner with my Non-alchohol Pina Colada and watched the fun.

Don’t cry Annabelle, rejoice! I’ve been sober for over 30 years, but I used to tell my customers at the bar: “There’s only a minimum age for drinking…not a maximum, just show me your ID anyway, dear!”

          • Love it! Oh, I had three drinks, but I didn’t pass them along. They make me a better bowler. Have a great week honey.

          • formerlyAnon

As a group project, with debates on who the three cutest people might be, this sounds like the highlight of an evening. Or maybe I’m just not having enough fun these days . . .

        • formerlyAnon

Cultivate semi-delusional inner fabulosity. As we age, it’s our best defense.

          • Shawn EH

Delusions are almost expected by that point, right?

  • marlie

Other than the shoes, she looks sexy, edgy, and a little dramatic. SO different than what she usually wears!

    • Open toed shoes, they aren’t for every one. Or every foot. ; )

  • Emily Smith

Ugh I really hate asymmetric dresses that are sleeveless on one side and have a full sleeve on the other. Random observation, she has pretty long feet doesn’t she?

  • LaSylphide

Never been a fan of Versace, but this is so low-key, it’s sort of the Anti-Versace and not really bad at all. Plus, it’s nice to see somebody with the right coloring for white. She doesn’t look washed out, but I think the eye makeup is a bit much for daytime. Don’t like the Payless shoes at all.

  • kipper

    She is Addicted to Love!

    • kipper

I would very much like it, even with 80’s video make up and the shoes, IF the sleeve was gone…

  • Patricia Gillett

Why, platforms, why!??? Love the hair and the dress’ asymmetry does not bother me. The shoes are an abomination.

  • Introspective

lurv the dress. abhor the shoe.

  • julnyes

Everything is working except the shoes.

  • Unvacuous

I’m suprised she pulled this off, sleek and modern should be her wheelhouse. Up till now she’s always looked fairly bland to me

  • Janet B

Except for the shoes, she’s styled perfectly for this surprisingly sleek and modern dress.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

has she ever been in a movie? She needs some color in her skin, tooooo pale…

  • Kate Andrews

Anyone else thinking of Sharon Stone?

    • imspinningaround

      I am now.

  • SewingSiren

Just about perfect. A skin tight white dress is certainly hard to wear ,the correct underwear being a key component. The shoes bring it down a notch. But still, well done.

  • Emily Giovanni

I am distracted by the harsh make-up, which I don’t think suits her at all.

  • In_Stitches

The shoes look cheap and the make-up is certainly rough, but it’s nice to see her playing around with fashion, dabbling outside of her Urban Outfitters aesthetic.

  • CommentsByKatie

I don’t think the shoes are working for her at all! I can’t put my finger on what is wrong with the whole shoes/feet deal but it is not aesthetically pleasing. I wish this were floor-length or that the shoes were set on fire; either one is fine.

    • algaechick

The front of them look like the shoes are too small-her toes are doing weird things, but the ankle strap is pulled so tight it makes it look like the shoes are too big.
I vote set the shoes on fire. I may end up getting thrown out of shoe stores trying to saw the bottoms off of platform shoes in an effort to make.this.trend.die.

      • kmk05

I vote for sending the shoes to someone with calves! More muscled legs would balance out the platform beautifully.

  • Jessica Freeman

I think in pretty much hate this. Yea. That’s what it is.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

She nailed this look (ignoring the shoes) so badly that she even looks a little bit like Allegra Versace.

  • MilaXX

Surprised that she put in this kind of effort. Even more surprised that a dress better suited for Rooney Mara, actually works on her. She looks nice.

  • joanna dash

I like it. Never a fan of shoe/purse matches and both look bridesmaidy. But overall, I love the Emma Peel vibe going on here.

  • Lesley

i’m liking the look as a whole for her although.. not loving the shoes and i could do without the soccer bun but she looks very chic

  • ThaliaMenninger

I might go so far as to call them hooker shoes. One step farther into the abyss than stripper shoes…

    • IMNAngryLiberal

The shoes look cheap, which is an even worse offense than tacky when worn with Versace.

    • Glam Dixie

Either way, this is not a good thing, lol and they make her feet look ENORMOUS, possibly that is the angle, possibly her feet just really are enormous, but that still isn’t a look you want to go for.

      • Ceur

Skinny ankles make feet look bigger.

        • JDreesen

o that i were so lucky and could be known as one whose feet look big. alas…my fate is thankles*.

          * that’s right – thankles. they start at the thigh and go straight down to the shoe, my friend.

    • Totally hooker.

  • lrober03

I think she looks great in the dress, but the hair and makeup looks wrong. The dark eye is too heavy, and the hair pulled back with that dress’ neck is not great

  • fiddlecub

I love the dress, but a sincere smile would make here so much more appealing than the duckface she’s flashing. (I have an insane abhorrence of duckface.)

  • Danielle L

Her feet must be in pain.

  • Charles

Her makeup is atrocious to me, I don’t think she has the face for that amount of smack. The whole look reads gaunt and very severe, I just want to buy her a burger.

  • Garcia Loca

Not loving the cheap-looking stripper shoes, esp. when her toes have to claw so hard to stay in them. I do like the dress, hair and makeup on her, even if it does make her look like a low-rent Annie Hathaway.

  • Ashleigh

I scrolled down and thought, wow, very chic, until I got to the shoes…

  • OrigamiRose

Yikes, I’m clearly in the minority loving those heels. They ding all my weak spots: height, color, minimal details.

  • hac51

    Styled by Rooney Mara.

  • lobsterlen

I love this to the shoes. Emma has very thin almost little girl legs which do not go with platform shoes … the shoes are too heavy looking for her.

  • E. D.

Surprisingly, I hate the bag more than the stripper shoes. Like the dress on her though.

  • thecitysleeps

    Those shoes are horrendous.

  • Belvane

    International Space Station hostess.

  • samo_samo

I like the dress. Kinda makes her look like a fembot, a very chic Versace fembot, but still a fembot.

  • crash1212

I am in love with that dress and she looks like a dream in it. I love what’s going on with her head – but – those shoes? UGH.

  • Synnae

Dress is amazing, it works really well on her, and they obviously styled hair and make-up accordingly, but those heels sort of ruin the whole outfit. I know she is a tiny girl but that dress just called for a pair of kick-ass pointy stilettos.

  • MannahattaMamma

No. Study at the School of Uma. Shoes too big (plus also: ugly), and er…she’s missing a sleeve.

  • formerlyAnon

Too much eye for daytime, but excused because I think it works with the dress.

  • snarkykitten

    Those shoes are unfortunate

    • kmk05

I was going to say ‘ridiculous’. Is it just me, or does it seem like her feet are awkwardly floating/positioned in those shoes? A flimsier sandal would have rocked this out of the park. As it is, it’s kind of a scrolldown fug for me.

  • kimiakay

She is definitely working that dress. I did not know who this was at first! With that makeup she does not look like herself at all, and it seems overdone or something. Then with the shoes, mixed messages? Bottom to top: stripper, sophisticate, drag.

  • Trisha26

Really a shame she couldn’t afford both sleeves. Hate the shoes. Otherwise elegant.

  • DuBey2

Love. Love it all, except maybe a silver stiletto instead of the platform, but overall Well Done.

  • bd73

the platforms are too much. they make her legs look spindly and they just don’t match the sleekness of the look. she’s like 21st Century Robert Palmer video girl. pointy toe stilletto would have rocked.

  • mickiemonkey

    ABBA shoes.

  • It seems like the toes must make a choice of which way to go. These shoes don’t do much for feet. I’m also not a fan of the single-sleeve dress. It looks like the designer ran out of fabric on the one side.

Remember the video for that song “Addicted to Love” by Robert Palmer?
