Elizabeth Olsen in Balenciaga at Comic-Con 2013

Posted on July 22, 2013

Oh, honey. Lighten up.

Elizabeth Olsen attends the preview of “Godzilla” during the 2013 San Diego Comic Convention in a Balenciaga outfit paired with Robert Clergerie heels, Jamie Wolf rings, and Joan Hornig earrings.

Balenciaga Resort 2014 Collection

You’re at a comic convention talking about your Godzilla movie. Now’s not the time to get snooty about things.

But we’re being hasty in our judgment:

Robert Clergerie Snake Block Heel

Better. Those rowdy nerd crowds can be quite uplifting; especially to starlets showing leg.

We think this outfit is kind of cool, but it’s a tough look to pull off for pictures, because the silhouette is so stumpifying from certain angles. And even though it’s simple to the point of boring, we still think Balenciaga at Comic-Con is a bit high-falutin’. Save the capital-F fashion for the conventional press tour. Put on something fun and bright for the Con.

Although granted; she does look quite cool and comfy in that getup.

Well, it DOES have a cape, so I think it’s Comic Con appropriate!

    • NOLA_gal

Edna Mode says “No capes!” : )

  • Courtenay P

she should have worn the bomb ass Balenciaga shoes.

    • *And* the hat. 😉

      • Courtenay P

ooh yeah! I didn’t even see that, I was too busy slobbering over the shoes 🙂

  • hughman

Choosing a top with a built-in superhero cape for Comic-Con? Well played Liz, well played.

  • gabbilevy

Love it. She looks appropriately casual and comfortable, while still looking stylish and a bit sexy. Plus, it’s too much to hope starlets won’t wear expensive designer duds even when they’re in a more casual setting.

  • MarissaLG

    SUPER cute. Love the shoes.

  • Kathy_Marlow

I dunno, it’s a bit cape-ish, cape-like in the back? When she grinned and waved, you know they all fell out.

  • Silly Grrl

Ugh, are they really going to try to do another Godzilla reboot?

I did enjoy Pacific Rim though.

    This is cute-ish but dull.

    • demidaemon

Yes. However, in this one, Godzilla is going to save some somewhere from a bunch of other monsters. Why they need real actors for this, I do not know. (See also: The box office Transformer pictures, which I hate for this explicit reason.)

  • Clueless_Jock

    Mullet blouse?

  • Diego!

This made her look like Wonder Woman’s sister… but pregnant! WTF? Girl, throw that ‘blouse’ away!

  • I seriously do not know how to feel about those shoes.

    • Jessica Freeman

They look so strange from the side. Like a half boot, half strappy situation. I feel like, no.

  • elemspbee

luv the shoes, and the rest of the get up. But please, work on your posture. and use good conditioner for your hair.

  • Glam Dixie

I was just thinking isn’t this the girl that just got arrested, but no that’s the Roberts girl. So many starlets, so little time.

  • Jessica Freeman

I would request the sticking-out-of-the-tounge immediately stop with the starlets. Damn you, Miley. I quite like the outfit. I do not like the shoes.

  • decormaven

Those shoes are too heavy for that look. Also, I’d like to have seen some type of styling to the hair. It’s just a really plain presentation,. With all the costumed fans about, I’d like to see more imagination coming forth from stars’ styles.

  • MilaXX

I wish she had worn the hat.

  • nannypoo

I think she looks really cute. The shoes are cute but they belong with a different outfit.

  • embers618

This would look a hundred times better if she would stand up straight! I want to send those posture-support shoulder-belt contraptions to every stylist in Hollywood with the instructions to have the starlets practice their posture! If you are wearing beautiful clothes for money, it is your job to stop slouching and act like you like what you’re wearing, and where you’re wearing it.

  • Tatiana Luján

    I really like the shoes.

  • Lizbits

Stand up! That outfit would look twice as good if your shoulders weren’t approaching your waist, girl!

  • majorbedhead

That top is kind of inspired for the venue. And it must be eleventy-billion degrees in that place, what with all the people. It looks really comfortable, although not all that flattering.

  • Winter_White

TLo: “Balenciaga at ComicCon is a bit high-falutin’.”
Fanboys at ComicCon: “ZOMG, a girl a blonde girl a girl in shorts and she’s smiling at us and omg CAPE.”

  • kimmeister

Dang those legs are a mile long! But the top looks like it’s made out of construction paper.

  • crash1212

Cute outfit. So glad she switched out the shoes cuz those shoes on the model are butt ugly.

  • Anniebet

That first pic is the fugs. If she wanted to be sexy that’s not the outfit for it. Also I’m shocked – I didn’t realize an Olsen could smile.

  • demidaemon

Well, I think it’s just plain ugly.

  • Those Olsen girls don’t believe in looking overtly seductive, do they? They’re on a spectrum at one far end; the other end is composed of Beyonce, J. Lo and the Kardashians. Elizabeth has stunning legs.

  • maggiemaybe

Yummy shoes. Not loving the rest of it.

  • SewingSiren

    Needs the hat.

  • quiltrx

Just had to say I saw ‘Red Lights’ the other night and it was really good. They didn’t give her a lot to do, but it was a favorable first impression of her acting for me.
And I have to say it…she’s SO much prettier than the human Bratz doll twins.

  • Deb Morrissey

Can we start a campaign to get all the ladystars to stand up straight? (mom, is that you?) But seriously, everything looks better with good posture. Imagine how that outfit would look if her shoulders were back.

    • Isn’t that sort of thing trendy among our Bright Young Things? See also the entire cast of Girls.

      • Deb Morrissey

It is, no question. But it’s horribly unflattering, and it needs to die.

  • marlie

S’alright. It’s not too fussy for a con.

  • I love it. I really do. And the shoes are fab. Yeah, the shirt is stumpifying, but she isn’t stumpy. So it’s ok.

  • guest2visits

That is one doofus looking pair of shorts and top. In a world of shorts and simple tops… this is neither playful or stylish or sexy or anything worth the boxy, botched peplum and stitched together tablecloth scraps that this is. Trash it.
