Cover Girl: Demi Lovato for Fashion Magazine
We don’t have much of an opinion on Miss Demi, honestly. That’s not a slam against her; we just haven’t had time to catch up on all our celebrity opinion-forming. The landscape changes so often it can be awfully difficult for one to keep up, don’t you find?
We’ll say this: she’s doing her best with that dress, cause that is most definitely not an easy one to pull off:
Demi Lovato covers the August 2013 issue of Fashion Magazine in a Just Cavalli dress photographed by Chris Nicholls and styled by Zeina Esmail.
We guess you should figure if you’re going to get the cover of FASHION magazine, they’re gonna throw you into the deeper end of the fashion pool.
But let’s listen in on her thoughts.
On dealing with double standards: “Guys can be scandalous and not get any crap for it. In my song [“Something We’re Not”], I’m saying, ‘girls, have your fun—don’t let anyone let you feel bad about your actions. Ever.’
How moving to L.A. helped her transform: “L.A. has opened my eyes. I learned that ignorance stood in the way of my insight. I wasn’t really being honest with the way I used to live. I was pretending to be a role model during the day and turning into a wild child at night.”
On how X-Factor is keeping her on her toes: “The show made me a tougher critic and better empathizer. I understand artists a lot more now. I get scared for them because we if they don’t make the right decisions right now or if they don’t have the right people around them, they could put their careers in danger. What they never show [on X-Factor] is me backstage crying with certain contestants. I had to walk off a couple of times too because it gets too emotional for me. They never showed that.”
Seems unobjectionable enough. She’s really mastered celebrity-speak. “I learned that ignorance stood in the way of my insight.” Her publicist wept salty tears when she read that. It’s a real skill to sound like you’re being deep while working in multiple mentions of your TV show and song. Well done, Demi. Our respect is growing.

But we’ve gotta say, we just don’t like it. It’s not a great dress and it’s terribly busy for a magazine cover.
