Darren Criss in Brooks Brothers at the “Girl Most Likely” Screening

Posted on July 16, 2013

Honestly, we just picked these pictures because the suit looked good on him. But then we saw the black ribbon in honor of Cory Monteith, and our mouths, they are shut.

Darren Criss attends the screening of “Girl Most Likely” at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema in New York City in a Brooks Brothers plaid suit.

It must be weird for co-stars to have to continue to do the work of being a celebrity in the middle of mourning a colleague’s death.

Yeesh. It must be surreal to get on the red carpet when dealing with that kind of news.

  • Annarosa

The suit really fits and I’ll shut up.

  • theblondette

You can tell he’s not sure how to act, poor thing. Smile or no smile? And he looks tired, unsurprisingly. It must be so terrible to have to deal with a friend’s death and not be given any privacy. The suit looks nice.

    • calimon

It’s just part of work, no? Many of us who survive tragic loss have to continue to face the world, seemingly oblivious to our grief.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do.

My cousin’s business is air brushing t-shirts at special events and she had a booking for a large private party the day after her mother suddenly died. Not wanting to lose a new client, she did the party and was actually glad to have the distraction for a few hours.

        • shorty j

yeah, as hard as it is to lose someone that you’re close to, having things that are forcing you to get out of bed and put clothes on can be kind of a blessing in disguise.

      • theblondette

I wasn’t saying he is suffering more than a non-famous person! But I for one am very glad I don’t have photographers sticking cameras in my face and asking for a quote after the death of a friend. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to feel compassion for him and his colleagues for this particular situation.

      • pattie capet

i don’t know, i think mourning a sudden death with close friends and family is one thing, awful but comforting in its way, and you usually are given a little time before going back to work, and even if you’re not, coworkers will know to give you some space when you need it. this kind of job, you are supposed to be projecting some kind of outsized personality, and be chipper. it is different and i imagine it must be hell.

  • Introspective

beautiful suit, beautiful fit and amazing that he’s even out given the sad situation with cory’s death.

    brava, darren.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Normally, I delight in making fun of Darren Criss, but he actually looks really good here. In other words, I swear to god, I wouldn’t be making fun, even if we weren’t factoring in Cory Monteith’s untimely passing. So mouth is shut over here too.

  • save_the_hobbit

I’m glad people are actually respecting Lea and leaving her alone to mourn, but it must be hard for the other Glee stars to have to do appearances right now. Darren is such a sweet guy, Cory’s death probably hit him pretty hard. He looks great though, and I’m pretty excited to see this movie. It’s just amazing how far Darren has come in the past few years, I can’t even believe it. He and the other starkids are all extremely talented.

    • largishbearishAtlish

I too am really nicely pleased at the respect they are showing for Lea, I am not seen or heard a peep from the ‘news shows’ about her. who would have ever thought ‘decency and paparrazi’ (sp?) in the same thought bubble?

      • Eric J.

Hell, I’m pleased (and surprised) at Lea asking for privacy. I may have to reevaluate my opinion of her.

  • d4divine

He looks great from the neck down, out of respect, I won’t talk about his facial hair.

  • Janet B

    Perfect suit for him.
I just can’t say anything more.

  • Jessica O’Connell

He looks good. I can’t imagine what he’s going through right now though. Like many, I always want to hug him, but now I do even more. I’ve met him and he is such a nice guy. Starkid, the production company that he and his friends started in college, dedicated their show to Cory yesterday or the night before. At the very least, I am glad that the people who knew Cory are supporting each other in any way that they can. But anyway he looks good (he basically always does to me) and I’m very excited for Girl Most Likely.

    • save_the_hobbit

I was wondering if they would dedicate a showing of Twisted to Cory. Have you been to see it?

      • Jessica O’Connell

No I haven’t, but they wrote on Twitter that they were dedicating it to him on Sunday, I believe. Hoping they’ll put the show up on YouTube.

  • MilaXX

I am impressed. He’s come a long way from those stupid sunglasses. I even like the semi mountain man look with the beard and stubble. Nice touch wearing the ribbon.

  • Carla_Charlton

And he made sure that the suit fit perfectly.

  • Ashleigh

especially with idiots protesting at the funeral!

    • MK03

Seriously?? Westboro is going to show up??

      • MilaXX

Those nit wits give Christians every wear a bad name. Do they ever pray for something good?

        • MK03

No. Because they can’t wrap their feeble little minds around this concept of “good”.

        • ashtangajunkie

There’s nothing Christian about anything they stand for, no matter what they think.

      • jangma

They said they would, but they aren’t allowed in Canada, so…

    • WintryMix

They stated that they would picket the funeral, but since Cory was a Canadian citizen who died in Canada, I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t be buried there. And the WBC is actually banned from Canada. (Nice job with that, btw, Canada.)

      • largishbearishAtlish

really? canada BANNED them? wonder who we do a state by state? county by county? of ‘them’ (did you see the 2 wonderful women that got married across the street from them? brilliant)

        • filmcricket

Yeah, they wanted to come up for a funeral of a high profile murder victim, who according to them was killed because Canada allows gay marriage. They weren’t allowed across the border. I don’t know if that was a lifetime ban or what, though. I hope the border service agency in BC is on its game and keeps them out this time too.

      • Rand Ortega

Reason #1M+ why I love Canada (worked on shows up there–the people are uncommonly nice & smart).

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Good for Canada, banning those assholes.

      • Sandra Oh

Let’s hope there’s a shoot to kill order alongside the ban.

        • Sandra Oh

          Yes I’m being facetious. Maybe.

  • MK03

That really is a great suit for him. Poor guy looks shellshocked; can’t say I blame him.

  • majorbedhead

    His eyes look so sad.

  • DTLAFamilies

He looks great but you can really see the sadness in his eyes. I read in the NY Times that Matthew Morrison dedicated his show last night to Cory and sang What I Did For Love in his honor. I wasn’t even a big Glee fan but it’s obvious that Cory was a nice guy and that his death is hitting the cast really hard.

    • julnyes

Read that article as well and I was surprised to see that they were so close in age – only 3 years apart. Must be hard for the cast – I feel bad for all of them.

  • kimmeister

Brooks Brothers! Proof that it doesn’t have to be D&G or Gucci or whatever to look good.

  • Ann VerWiebe

I always wondered if The Big Labowski would have done better the first time around if Lloyd Bridges hadn’t been dying. That family was so close, how could Jeff be expected to walk a bunch of red carpets?

  • maggiemaybe

Poor thing. His eyes just say it all, don’t they?

  • imakeart

He was billed to be on Kelly and Michael this morning, but was not there, and no mention of him. Morrison is supposed to be on later this week. I’ve lost a coworker very suddenly before. it really gets difficult to focus. Can’t imagine having to be in public.

  • Nicola Anna Molly Page

A touching and subtle tribute. My heart goes out to those who love Cory right now.

  • frannyprof

    Very sad, indeed.

  • WintryMix

As I wrote on Tumblr last night, I can only hope, that if I were ever faced with the dreadful task of having to make this kind of public appearance just two days after a close friend’s death, that I would be able to do it with such grace and dignity and composure. I think he looks as well as can be imagined, given the situation.

  • marlie

I like the suit. I think the ribbon is a really sweet way for him to pay tribute to his colleague who just only died a couple of days ago.

  • largishbearishAtlish

oh damn, the grey tie looks perfect on this (the blue…meh) and the wonderfully ruffled/unfuffled hair…delightful- no one since Mandy Patinkin in Yentl has looked this….moist? yummy? woofable? a perfect blend of sexy, poised and masculine but in a polished way. (and poor kid, how to be a star and deal with a colleges death…yeesh… he gets his own colored ribbon? isn’t that only for national causes?)

    • Gwyndall

It’s black, a traditional color of mourning. The small ribbon is just a more modern take on the black armband… I doubt he expects the nation to take up the cause.

      • largishbearishAtlish

well said and verymuch respect that- sorry if my comment came out and ‘douch-ey’. this is a nice touch then (and more on point than a black arm-band of years past) just strikes me a bit a compromising of the now classicness of the red ribbon (then later pink, etc) for various very worthwhile causes (if that makes sense) maybe a black flower or something? seems to be ‘crossing’ a bit much (just realized that was *not* meant as a horrific pun)

        • eowyn_of_rohan

I find it’s best not to have guidelines on how people mourn.

  • decormaven

Good look, and nice understated touch in rememberance of CM. Condolences to the Glee crew & staff, as well as to Cory’s friends and family.

  • colleenjanel

The half smile says “I’m contractually obligated to be here, and I’m a professional, so here I am.” The eyes say “fuck. I don’t want to be here.”
My heart goes out to Darren him and the rest of the cast, especially Lea.

    • WintryMix

That’s EXACTLY how it looks to me too. Someone doing the best they can to hold it together.

  • filmcricket

He looks good. I feel so, so bad for the entire cast, especially Lea obviously. I’m glad Darren was able to cancel his press stuff today. I hope the paps leave them alone, there have been reports of Jane and Darren both being harassed but I haven’t actually seen the pictures/video myself.

    • WintryMix

I watched the video of Jane being harassed while signing autographs for little girls after the last show of Annie. I don’t recommend watching unless you have a particular need for high blood pressure today. You can hear the paps goading her, asking over and over things like “Did you ever try to give Cory any advice, Jane?” Over and over and over. She kept telling them to stop, fans and the guards were telling them to stop. It was assaultive and horrible.

      • colleenjanel

That video made me SOOOO MAD!!!! But I have crazy respect for anyone who can handle an asshat like that with as much grace as she did. As close as he was, I would have shoved that camera into his sinus cavities.

    • Telperion

They caught him when he arrived from New York and asked about Cory. He handled it like a class act though and told the pap that it is inappropriate due to the fact he lost his friend and that they should think about that before they start gossip. I’d have popped the guy.

The eyes do say it all. The suit is great, I love the hair but that young man does not want to be there. Kudos for doing it like a professional though. Same for Matt, who held his concerts. The show must go on.

      • colleenjanel

With Matt and Jane both currently both in New York, I hope they were able to connect and spend some time mourning together.
The quality of the show may not be what it once was, but what’s always impressed me is what a family the cast is, on and off screen.

        • Glammie

Yeah, I’ve stopped watching the show, but CM’s death really kind of got to me–there always seemed to be something genuine and decent about him and there really does seem to be a bond among the cast–most of them were unknowns when they started and they came into fame as a group–and they’ve had to work hard together–those musical numbers take work.

And Darren’s suit looks great. The black ribbon is a touch of class. Well done.

  • Joyce VG

What a beautiful suit. So sad about Cory Monteith.

  • amanda lynn

He looks really furry and nice.

  • Danielle L

Bless. It’s gotta be so hard to be “business as usual” when someone so close to your heart passes.

  • Qitkat

This is a lovely suit on Darren.
Such a sad time for Cory’s family and the Glee cast, and Lea. Darren and others who have to appear at public functions must be walking through in a haze, physically present, and mentally in such turmoil and sorrow. My heart breaks for all of them. I’ve been through losing a young family member so suddenly, and it leaves you stunned, with so many questions and heartbreak that overwhelms you. Blessings and condolences to all who loved him, and the strength to move through the coming days with grace.

    Bless.

  • mjude

    sweet & sad

  • Rand Ortega

A very sad weekend indeed. RIP CM. Such a lovely, talented soul. Heartfelt condolences to all who love him.

  • cowper

    Class act.

  • Gwyndall

For some reason, the tie and suit on the model really remind me of Cory. Maybe it’s just the power of suggestion…

There are a lot of things about being a celebrity that must be, and are, weird. Nowadays, I don’t think celebrity is all some people think it’s cracked up to be.

  • ashtangajunkie

He looks adorable and I love that suit. I’m sad for those who loved Cory Monteith.

  • Diego!

He looks stunning! And I agree, let’s shut our mouths for a while in respect.

  • Tanya Edwards

Let’s be nice to Lea for a while.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Of course.

(sorry, I am a compulsive attempted mood lifter)

      • colleenjanel

I have to admit, your post made me smile.

        • Tanya Edwards

          Me too.

  • jmorino08

Look at his eyes. His body is there right now, but the rest of him is somewhere else completely…

  • Miss WKS

I was wondering how you guys were going to work mention of Cory Monteith’s death in…or even if you were. I appreciate you mentioning him. And yeah, it must be weird/tough.

  • bertkeeter

    He’s cute as a button!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    Aw.

  • Emily

Agreed. This is easily the most demure comments section ever and I totally respect that. It’s nice to see unity among the Bitter Kittens.

  • SapphoPoet

So sad about Cory–such a waste. Darren looks good, although rather tired.

  • MartyBellerMask

    How very sad.
But he looks incredible. Like, never better. Aside from the sad eyes.
