Ashanti in Rue 107 at the “Grown Ups 2” New York City Premiere

Posted on July 11, 2013

You can’t call this girl shy, that’s for sure. We always espouse the value of a good attention-seeking dress for the right moments – which is generally every public moment in a celebrity’s life – but this one is at the very pinnacle of the “LOOK AT ME, BITCHES” pile:

Ashanti atteds premiere of “Grown Ups 2” at Lincoln Square in New York City in a Rue 107 diamond checkered dress.

Rue 107 ‘Fifi’ Dress

We kind of love it. It’s so drag. We’re not crazy about the Basset Hound hair or the color of the lips/shoes, but it’s fun, and it’s not like she’s meeting the Queen of England or accepting her Oscar or anything. Go ahead and work the curves, girl. Let’s just rethink the lips and the shoes, okay?

    ASHANTI!! Where you been, girl?!?!

Good to see you (even if I don’t love the whole look)!!

    • She was a regular on this last season of “Army Wives.” I mean, not that I watch that show or anything… πŸ˜‰

  • mjude

if i could have back in the day i would so have worn that out to the club. nice punk feel to it.

    • ItsDicey

Me too, girl. I would’ve worn it with spiked hair, etc. YOU KNOW.

  • Jessica Freeman

    …and how many people…

  • Jessica Freeman

For Ashanti, this is actually really good. I hate that lipstick, but I think the shoes work.

  • hughman

Umm… can we talk about the model’s shoes? Yikes.

    • Anniebet

Yikes indeed. Better we just ignore those shoes. They don’t exist. We never saw them.

      • MoHub

These are not the shoes you’re looking for …

    • Tess Danesi

Courtney Stodden shoes. And I like platforms having been HS age in the mid-70’s but those are awful (says the woman who wore a pair of bright yellow and dark green polka dot platforms so much that they were resoled, so maybe I have no right to judge).

    • gabbilevy

      No can we not??!

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

      and those earrings, yikes!

  • Meg0GayGuys6

Lather yourself with Crisco, have someone open up the neckline at the end of a slip and slide and let ‘er rip!

i feel really old- but I don’t know who this is… can someone help this geezer out & tell me what she’s known for??

    • MilaXX

Singing, although very badly. Frankly I’m surprised she is still around.

      • She’s pretty good at keeping her face in the limelight cause the last time homegirl had a hit was back in ’04 or something. I think being with Nelly helped a bit, too.

        • MilaXX

She really does. Especially when you consider she has no talent and hasn’t had anything to promote in forever. Sadly she always get the side eye from me since I heard about her and Irv Gotti.

          • I will say that I did catch her on Rachel Ray a couple weeks ago (Considering I can’t even stand Rachel Ray. Blame the whole flipping channels bit). She was there to promote her new stint on “Army Wives”. So, I guess she does have something to promote…even if it’s “Army Wives”.

          • MilaXX

I missed that because I refuse to watch anything other than Project Runway on Lifetime. If it was possible for a channel to be on my celebrity hate list Lifetime would be it.

          • Nah. You’re not the only one who can’t stand Lifetime. Till this day I get heated that 1) It left Bravo and 2) I can’t locate the channel for nothing even though I’ve been with my cable company for 3+ years. I should have it memorized by now like I do with other channels.

          • Not applicable

Yes! I feel the same! Tho, lifetime was great for taking naps back in college…

    • Sobaika

      Singing, circa 2006.

    • Not applicable

Ah! Thank you all!i feel much better now… πŸ˜‰

  • Dawn Sinclair

    Dear Uncles,

She’s not just the Queen of England you know! She’s the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth, for those countries that will still have her πŸ˜€

    I met her daughter once.

I’m not English, I’m Cornish or British.

    It’s a pet peeve.

    Love you though.

Also, if you ever come over to the UK I’ll take you to a British pub and make you tea and scones.

Oh and I use to go to school less than 3 miles from where Viv Westwood was born.

    Sincerely a British Bitter Kitten

  • StellaZafella

“ooooh! Come take a walk across my kitchen floor!”

    • ItsDicey

  • I was idly wondering if it wasn’t just sewn into place.

  • MoHub

I’m beginning to have Op Art seizures. Must look away.

  • decormaven

The lip color bugs, as does the color of the pumps, but she’s working this look. Are those oversized hoop earrings? Hard to tell from photo angle. Good choice of oversized accessory.

  • MilaXX

Look is okay, hate the hair. Then again, never been a fan of hers. She o one of the lower rungs of my celebrity hate list.

  • LearnedFoot

As Nina would say, “It looks cheap.”

    • Jaeda Laurez

‘Tis her way. She’s always been very ‘Retha when it comes to clothes and makeup.

But I DO love that dress.

  • oatmealpie

I’m just glad to see a celeb rocking a $50 dress on the red carpet.

    • StelledelMare

I was about to say this exact same thing. A celeb wearing a dress that most anyone else can afford. So she gets alot of points for that alone.

    • Bridget Smith

Wow, considering it’s that cheap, I’m impressed at how little the diamonds are warping. I’d have expected them to be stretched out all over the place. A surprisingly well-made dress + good fabric for $100!

  • H2olovngrl

I tried on a bunch of tight speedo swimsuits the other day and it was hot, sweaty, exhausting work. I bet it went something like that.

    • YoungSally

I had a friend who worked high up at Warnaco/Speedo and she said that the Olympic athletes get the suits so tight that it can take a half hour to slide those suckers on.

      • H2olovngrl

That isn’t even just at the Olympic level, either. My husband is a swim coach and it is at the club and high school level too. Those suckers are tight! Looks uncomfortable for the lady parts too, but I digress…

        • marlie

I was a HS and club swimmer back in the day, and our race day suits were tiiiiight. Though we used to wear our old stretched-out suits for practice because they produced drag, which helped with the training.

          • H2olovngrl

The girls on our team also double and triple up on the swimsuits during practices for more drag. Is that just here in CA or is that an all over thing?

          • marlie

            Nope, we did that too.

          • Bridget Smith

Hah, I remember this! And the old tights some girls wore (though none who were ever on my team). My problem with race suits was that I’m skinny & flat-chested but tall, and my torso is really long even in proportion to my height, so I had to get a small size and then attempt to haul it up over my shoulders when its natural length was boob-height. It wasn’t so bad when the suit & I were dry, but mid-meet trips to the bathroom were HELL.

          • marlie

I fall into the same category. I was actually able to order “extra long” suits. Still aggressively tight, but SO much more comfortable.

          • Bridget Smith

Oh, lucky you! I just had to deal with the deep red imprints on my shoulders.

          • H2olovngrl

Some of the newer suits with the more string-like backs are better for longer torso. Unfortunately, not enough support for this well endowed girl, so I stuck with a more traditionally backed practice suit.

    • drdarke

I was thinking, “Is she the New 52 Harley Quinn…?”

  • MilaXX

Just getting a better look at this. Everything from the neck up is busted. Bad lace front, tacky spider lashes, unblended eyeshadow & wrong lip color. Girl, no!

    • Kristin McNamara

      • MilaXX

lace front is a type of wig.

        • Kristin McNamara

Ah! I learn so much from you guys.

          • MilaXX

FYI they are called lace front, because they come with a piece of webbing in the front that is glued down with hair glue. When done poorly you get a weird artificial hairline look.

      • sweetlilvoice

Normally an expensive type of wig too….perhaps that is not the case here.

  • Lola Channing

“it’s so drag” best description and can’t be topped. But what can one expect from a dress called “fifi”?

  • Danielle L

HATE HATE LOATHE AND DETEST the talon nails trend. HATE IT.

  • amber.

    but those eyebrows though

  • teensmom99

Looks to me like something Betty or Veronica would wear.

  • kimmeister

I like fuchsia with black and white because it makes me think of those Exclamation perfume ads from the 80’s. So the pumps are ok with me, but the lips are not fuchsia so they’re not working. I like the dress, it makes me want to play checkers. The claws and crazy lashes have got to go though.

  • crash1212

I love this dress. I love it with the shoes. Not crazy about the hair. Overall – slammin’ look.

  • Love the dress! The shoes? I’m just glad she didn’t go with stilt platforms like those on the model.

  • bertkeeter

    RETRO Donna Summers!

  • Sweetvegan

She must have some serious undergarments on. Look how smooth it all looks!

  • SpillinTea

“Black Fran Drescher” (as Fresh so eloquently dubbed her) refuses to stop grinding, even though she hasn’t had a hit in a decade. The hair can go, but I like the dress on her. Now where Nelly at? πŸ˜‰

  • Iroqhard

With that much of a dress, she needs messier hair and the eyelash caterpillars have to GO.

  • veleri

    face/hair/lipstick …everything screams NICKY MINAJ

  • Tracy Walker

Why do celebrities think using your boobs as a display shelf for your hair is a good idea?! Stop the insanity!

  • DuBey2

Just have to say I’d prefer Heidi K worked this kind of look as her way to get attention. But Heidi would need to be reminded to wear a bra.
As to Ashanti; I like her styling way more than the model’s. And I love a pink shoe. Pink just makes me smile. Don’t hate me for it, please.

  • marlie

She looks great, but that pink hurts my eyes.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

I’ll be the cheese who stands alone and mention how well-done the outfit is. The dress fits perfectly – note that there pattern isn’t distorted – and the cut is relatively demure; she’s really not showing much skin. The pop of color was well-deployed and the whole thing is venue-appropriate. I’ll give it to her.

  • snarkykitten

let’s see…spider lashes, unflattering lipstick, bad hair, pinterest claws, and terrible shoes. Yeah, it gets my attention, but for all the wrong reasons

  • Anne O.

Hate the lipstick, but kind of love the shoes. I’m not sure what this says about me.

  • stubbornthoughts

The dress looks fabulous, but everything else is stabbing my eyes.
