Anna Kendrick in Temperley London at the Dizzy Feet Foundation Gala

Posted on July 29, 2013

A classic example of a not-very-good runway-to-red-carpet transition, kittens.

Anna Kendrick attends the 3rd Annual Dizzy Feet Celebration of Dance Gala at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles in a Temperley London sleeveless dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti pumps, Jamie Wolf earrings, a EF Collection ring, and a Jimmy Choo clutch.

Temperley London Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Hedvig Palm

You take the sheer overlay off that thing and it just looks like a wrinkled, flimsy, embellished pillowcase. It’s a gorgeous design and it really suits her, but it absolutely needed the softening effect of that sheer.

Also, those shoes make us weep with their big, clumsy, satin-y matchiness. If you’re gonna go matchy, then gold sandals, please.

I was on board 100% until the shoes.

    • Jessica Freeman

I wanted to see some green. Gold would have been a major improvement.

      • gabbilevy

Oooh, that would have knocked it out of the park.

  • Oh LORDY do I want all these satiny hooves to spontaneously burn.

    • 3boysful

      Especially cloven ones like these.

    • decormaven

Aaaaiiiieeee! Can’t decide which is the scariest- those tragic shoes or the sores on her feet. I did not not need to see either of them.

  • Julie Chase

    Well, her head looks great.

    • drdarke

It’s a gorgeous design and it really suits her

WTF do you mean, TLo? That dress makes her, and the model, look pregnant! And the color is appalling for somebody as Whitegirl as she is – she just washes out in it.

100% on board with you on the shoes, though – the only place they belong is on some Cloven-Hoofed Satanic Drag Queen –

Why am I suddenly thinking of Tim Curry…?

      • demidaemon

That description seems like it might fir Sharon Needles….

  • ceceliadid

This one just doesn’t know how to get herself did.

  • flamingoNW

Agreed. Especially hating on those stripper wedding shoes.

    • iseeshesaid

      Stripper wedding shoes. Brilliant!

  • How many ways can we come up with to say washed out and unremarkable? I suspect we are going to find out.

    • CT14

      She needs color!

    • drdarke

      Ooh, a competition, @annabelle_archer:disqus!

  • clairellis

The picture if her face is perfection. The full body pictures leave much to be desired. Should have left the sheer overlay and different shoes. But she can send the shoes to me. They’d look smashing with my outfit today.

    • Lucía Gavello

The thing is, I’m pretty sure she has the sheer overlay, it’s just roughly the same shape and size as the satiny lining. She should have fitted the lining more and the hem on the overlay should be a little longer.

      • clairellis

Yeah, you’re right. Yet she still should not have altered it all. It looks much better longer than the rest of the dress.

  • hughman

    Bed, Bath and The Yawn.

  • Blair Sylvester

This is a pallete cleanser after the horror of the previous post. It also feels very Versailles duvet or maybe curtains

  • Tatiana Luján

But the dress HAS the sheer overlay, it’s just shorter than the overlay in the runway version. Look at the hem of kendrick’s dress and you will see it.
This is just a case of poor ironing. The longer ovelay would have looked better.
    The shoes are awful.

    • MilaXX

it looks like the folded or tried to fold the sheer under the dress, creating a messy hemline

  • Jessica Freeman

This belongs on the younger crowed…Hailee, Chloe or even Kiernan.

  • alyce1213

    Shooves must die.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I really hate the runway version, too. Also, the dress was cut to be worn by someone really flat-chested. The dress pulls at Anna’s underarm at the point the bustline starts and from that point on, the dress hangs incorrectly.

  • CeeRich

Give this dress to Kerry Washington. But BURN the shoes.

  • kimmeister

I will give her points for wearing her hair up so we can see that beautiful embellished neckline.

  • Introspective

everyone’s voiced my thoughts on this.

still i had to say for myself that hate those shoes with the fire of a thousand burning suns. and the rest feels like a macy’s sale rack special.

  • YoungSally

The pleat on the front of the shoe is like a new type of camel toe.

  • MilaXX

They ruined this dress messing with the hem and the shoes are awful

  • That neckline is so beautiful and so suits the stellar hair and makeup. Too bad about everything below it.

  • Danielle L

  • Jessica Goldstein

Agreed on both points. However, I just looked at the Zosia pictures, so am having a hard time criticizing this look the way I might normally. Also hard to be too hard on her when the hair and makeup are both so beautiful.

  • Karen Belgrad

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… well, a Christmas Tree Topper

  • d4divine

Why didn’t she just wear stilts…this big troll shoe trend needs to end. It doesn’t look elegant. It looks awkward and unwieldy.

  • kim bunchalastnames

that dress takes her to a total kennedy place.

  • marlie

The shoes need to be burned. If the dress wasn’t so rumpled-looking, we might have something here.

  • formerlyAnon

I wish the dress had kept the sleek crispness of the runway look, because she’s gorgeous here and the dress suits her.

    Shoes hideous.

  • bookish

This reminds of the costumes we through together back in 7th grade for a middle school production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

  • Tamara Hogan

    A) HOOVES, and B) that blister on her heel! Her poor feet!

  • NBG

Why is Temperley London stuff so shapeless? I have yet to see something from this label that actually flatters a woman’s form.

  • conniemd

Looking closely a the runway look it appears that the little gold embellishments are on the sheer overlay. Looking at the picture with the closeup of the gold clutch, the bottom of the dress appears to have some overlay on it. I think it’s a case of poor pressing of the dress.

  • Qitkat

You can’t convince me those aren’t bugs.

  • Valdri8

TLo totally hit the nail on the head with this; that dress needed the sheer overpiece to soften it up, and those hoof shoes are a freakin disaster.

  • Judy_J

They ruined a perfectly lovely dress when they removed the sheer overlay. And those shoes! Not only ugly, but obviously painful! That blister on her left heel hurts ME!

  • prettybigkitty

I love her, so she can do no wrong. Even in an ice capades towel. Her tweets are really funny and amazing. I want her to be my BFF>

  • fitzg

I know it says Temperley London in the title, but in the nanosecond between reading that and scrolling down, I apparently forgot that tidbit, saw the dress, and thought it was Marchesa. For the avoidance of doubt, that is not a compliment.

  • JauntyJohn

She regularly puts the effort in, even if the result can be somewhat mixed. In this case, not a swing-and-a-miss, but she only got a piece of the ball.
I don’t mind the dress so much — while I agree with the points about the overlay I imagine it would have made sitting very awkward. I assume this was on the way in to a sit-down event/concert/show of some sort.

  • crash1212

Wonder why they took the overlay off? BIG mistake. Love the hair and make-up. HATE those shoes – seriously.

  • Therese Bohn

It does look wrinkly, and I don’t think it’s too bad without the overlay, but with it gone, the shiny bits might get caught on something or someone’s clothing

  • Jacqueline Wessel

The dress doesn’t seem to fit correctly in the upper chestal regions. It’s pulling at the armholes, especially noticeable in the side view. Lovely face though.

  • iseeshesaid

The bust is far too tight. Also, the shoes. *blergh* Oh and, darling, please. Take care of your feet. They look an absolute mess!

  • Anniebet

Sadly, too much went wrong with a lovely dress. Those shoes have to be the epitome of nope.

  • Just Me

I rebuke those shoes in the name of Jesus! They are an abomination again the Lord.

  • Ugly

and another ugly ass lamp shade is brought into the world

  • ballerinawithagun

Hate the runway version also, those things that I guess are shoes and I don’t want to be mean but she needs to wear stockings. As do I under this close of examination.

  • TigerLaverada

I like her, but really dislike this outfit. And hooves. Blurgh. Why haven’t they been outlawed — the strength of podiatrist lobby loving the business they bring maybe?

    • Pennymac

The blister on her heel, no less! Blech!

  • Levedi

It needs darts. Not enough to remake the dress’s basic design, but enough to make it look like it was meant to fit a woman so that her breasts don’t look like an awkward design flaw. She’s lovely, the dress idea is lovely – it just needs to be adjusted to fit a woman, not a coat hanger.

  • boweryboy

  • quiltrx

Hilarious! My first impression was “how did it become a wrinkled pillowcase?”–and there are my wonderful Uncles, making me feel all sunshiny just knowing I was, for a moment, in sync with their greatness. 🙂

  • Lizzy

    I hate… wait… hate is a strong word.

    I hate those shoes.

  • bertkeeter

    “Shoes by BELK”!

  • demidaemon

It looks a kajillion times better in profile. From the front, it resembles an embellished sack, one that makes her look particularly wide.

  • IraKi

I am mostly worried about how sickly thin she looks. Ok the shoes were a bad choice too, I can’t ignore that either.

  • akprincess72

I approve of all of her makeup, though in particular I want her lip color!!

  • Tiny chicken feet on her dress, big stained hooves on her feet. Okay, then.
