Allison Williams at the 2013 Nantucket Film Festival

Posted on July 01, 2013

If the red carpet was some form of group party game and when it came to our turn, the little card read: “Allison Williams at the Nantucket Film Festival! GO!” This is pretty much exactly what we’d draw on our little tablet.

‘Girls’ star Allison Williams attends the 2013 Nantucket Film Festival in Nantucket, Massachusetts in a Matthew Williamson brocade dress from the Resort 2013 collection.

Matthew Williamson Paneled Floral Brocade Dress

The dress, the girl, and the setting are all in synch. She’s about as east coast preppy as one person can get without exploding in a hail of plaid and pastels, so a dress like this is both perfectly expected and perfectly suited to her. And it’s nice that it’s got a tiny bit of edge to it. We’re even willing to ignore the invisible shoes because we’re thinking stripper heels wouldn’t go over big with this crowd.

    • charlotte

You’re right, she could easily be hosting the whole thing.

    • Kiltdntiltd

How about a pair of strappy sandals in that great lilac shade that’s in the dress print?

      • MoHub

        Or the mint green.

        • Kiltdntiltd

Pretty much any of the less dominant colors in the pattern would have worked.

          • H2olovngrl

My first thought was silver strappy sandals would have been so much better than those awful cookie dough colored pumps. Also, can someone explain the bracelet to me? Is it purposely pinching the skin? I am confused.

            • Kiltdntiltd

I think its just so big its trying to fall off of her, but can’t QUITE.

    • hughman

      Adorbs. “Lilly Pulitzer, Mon Amour.”

      • formerlyAnon

        Dead to rights.

      • Cynica

In the thumbnail, I thought it WAS a Lilly. Which is perfect for her.

    • maggiemaybe

Her lips match her shoes exactly. It’s kinda creeping me out.

      • marlie

Her lips match her FACE exactly, too. I hate that.

    • MoHub

It’s a shame her hair is obscuring the colorblocked details. I didn’t even register them until I saw the runway shot.

      • largishbearishAtlish

Disagree, I like that the hair ‘muffles’ the color blocking aspect- gives the dress a bit of a surprise factor. On the model I think its too much, with the hair I like the curiosity factor…

    • marlie

All I can muster is “it’s fine.”

A silver sandal or pump would have been a better shoe choice. The nude shoe with the “scrunched in there” toe cleavage is kind of bugly. The dress is really pretty, but a ponytail or something that would have shown it’s most interesting detail (the juxtaposition of fabrics and neckline shape) would have been nice.

    • alyce1213

Nice summer dress, but I wish she’d worn her hair off the front and nice sandals.
I so envy her being in Nantucket. I heart Nantucket.

    • Gm2058

I’m really confused about what is happening to her wrist/bracelet?

      • Angela_the_Librarian

I am too! Is it supposed to pinch the skin like that instead of attaching at the two ends? Seems like it would be painful to wear.

      • MartyBellerMask

That had me too, til I realized she is wearing two bracelets. The pinching one (bangle) is falling backwards. Her wrist is too narrow to hold it on. The other bracelet is a chain and it’s crossing the bangle in a confusing way.

    • ChristySchiff

This picture, right here is why the cocker spaniel is horrible. The best part of her dress is covered up with that hair!

      • ballerinawithagun

You are so right! Why wear a dress with details and then cover it up??? She might as well wear a basic preppy dress.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

      This is horrible, Nanfucket!

    • MilaXX

This is perfect for the island. I’d call it bland if it was in NYC, but this fits for Nantucket. Frankly I’m surprised they have a film festival since they only have one movie theater on the island.

      • spacestation

They have two! The Dreamland is back! Also, I think they set up a projection screen at a venue in Sconset.

        • MilaXX

Been a minute since I was there last.

    • Anastasia

could have done without the nude lips, shoes, and nails. the bracelet is almost blasphemously too edgy for this crowd, but at least it makes the whole thing less catalogue. she looks good though!

    • annabelle archer

Oy at the nude lip, nude shoe combo. She’s looking a bit like a mannequin. But, sure, an east coast preppy one.

    • TheAmericaness

      It’s a pretty dress. Mkay.

    • Rhonda Shore

And she looks happy and relaxed.

    • Adrianna Grężak

…Of course she attended something called the “Nantucket film Festival.” I don’t care for the whole Wasp persona, but I commend her for always doing her job and showing up to these events dressed with intention and with a smile on her face. (In stark contrast to her Girls co-stars.)

    • Lesley

she always looks so preppy and put together like a stepford wife. I bet she poops glitter anddd that it smells like flowers.

    • Rand Ortega

All I see is Charlotte York MacDougal Goldenblatt.

    • JauntyJohn

      lovely look overall.

Shoe color upgrade: Something complimentary but not pulled from the dress. A pale yellow? Pink? Melon? Could have even done white.

    • sleah_in_norcal

what a beautiful dress, and it fits her perfectly. she and lena dunham are opposite ends of a spectrum, aren’t they?

    • Qdahling

So nude shoes are still a thing?

    • kingderella

her hair falls just so it coveres everything slightly interesting about the dress.

despite that, its not bad at all.

    • Gaby

Sigh. A grey shoe would have worked better than the nude pumps and have been just as conservative.

Pffft Nantucket Film Festival? Are all the movies screened in beach houses? I’m kind of jealous.

    • majorbedhead

That is just about perfect for Nantucket. It’s kind of Lilly Pulitzer with an edge.

    • fauxhawk

This is an unexciting look. I wonder what they watch at the Nantucket Film Festival? Do they just project a beige square onto a beige wall and watch that?

    • Qitkat

The dress is so cute, but I couldn’t tell from her picture because of all the droopy hair covering the shoulders.

    • MartyBellerMask

      Barbie feet!

    • formerlyAnon

WHY is her hair styled to cover the part of her dress with the most “interest?” Did the “interest” take the dress too far away from “sorority philanthropy luncheon?”

And I like Kiltntiltd’s suggestion of lilac strappy sandals.

    • Anniebet

Damn you, nude pumps. You strike again!

    • SewingSiren

Is the bracelet piercing her arm?

    • Nappysue

I see Brian Williams in drag every time I see a picture of her.

      • kimiakay

O.K., I can’t stop laughing, and every time I see him (or her) I will be thinking this! Thank you for a much needed laugh!

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

      Yes please!

    • Hetha Innis

      uber boring!

    • Trisha26

This falls in Franken-dress category for me…tacky blue lace, bedspread brocade & fun gray panels!

    • CommentsByKatie

Wow, the putty shoes actually match her skin tone. This is the first time I feel like they are working!

    • Imasewsure

This is so dull but she does look pretty

    • judybrowni

Open toed sandals (even with heels) — it’s fucking summer in Nantucket, too!

    • demidaemon

Well, unlike her castmates, Miss Williams here actually knows how to put on an entire outfit.

    • EEKstl

I actually love this dress but I think summer in Nantucket calls for sandals, not pumps.

    • Kate Borbas

Am I imagining that her bracelet is puncturing her wrist?

    • librarygrrl64

I wish she had done something with her hair so we could see the pattern on the bodice. That’s what makes the dress interesting.
