Lots of “Wicked Step Mother”/”Evil Queen” references here…I’ll take the pants ensembles though!

      • teensmom99

Well they certainly try to make it clear that the pants will be versatile!

    • Snailstsichr

I want to line the third from the bottom with purple and be Maleficient!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Most of this is overwrought, and over-thought. Too many notes in the composition. In many cases, a wonderful notion fails from being badly proportioned, or over embellished. All that said, there are a few times when it sings. The body bag dress, is a massive needle scratch within the grouping.

      • ballerinawithagun

        Hefty, hefty, hefty!

        • http://stylishsass.blogspot.com/ Terri Smith

          Stinky, stinky, stinky!

      • j_anson

Yes, yes, and more yes. And then they made it worse by photographing it all in front of a super-busy backdrop. It all manages to look, to my eye, as being both over-wrought AND dated.

(I actually kind of like the body-bag dress, because at least it’s interesting and doesn’t feel like a costume from The King and I, but totally agree that it is a) not a fit in this collection, and b) not actually something someone would want to WEAR.)

      • ankali

Yeah, I like the pale-blue pantsuit with the beaded jacket (though it’s still a too-literal take on the matador), but just about everything else is entirely too fussy. And some of it looks like it was made to use up leftover fabric scraps in the sewing box.

      • understateddiva

yes, I could hear Nina sniffing derisively about “student work”

    • DuBey2

The light blue jumpsuit w/chiffon blousey inset at bodice is very arresting, as are many of the pieces. But that blue one just made me think “The King and I” (the movie version w/Deborah Kerr and ?Yul Bryner?)

      • DuBey2

Oh, the one I’m referring to is the thumbnail for the whole line/season here on TLo.

      • Beardslee

That blousey inset, and the color, reminded me of Wallis Simpson’s wedding dress.

        • DuBey2

Wow. Kudos for your fashion memory. I don’t think I ever saw a pic of that dress in color. Do you know who her designer was?

          • Beardslee

I used to know, but I don’t anymore. The color faded over time, so you can’t see the blue. But it was light blue.

      • ankali

The matador suit, I think. It’s my favorite from the collection, but that’s unfortunately not saying much.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Now paging Fan Bingbing…Fan Bingbing…your collection has arrived.

    • jangma

This is kind of a mixed bag. There are some really beautiful and/or interesting pieces, but there are also a few real clunkers. #13 is my favorite. #20 and #23 should be burned.

      • Kimbolina

        #20 is so ill-fitting, I just don’t understand.

        • Beardslee

And it doesn’t help that the little girl who is wearing it doesn’t know how to stand up straight.

    • TheAmericaness

5th one up from the bottom: example of why all little bows should be !burned! except for the ones for babies… and even those – my little girl will be a year old at the end of this month and the only clothing of hers that has bows on it come from other family members and about 2 pieces that I picked out where they actually work and aren’t some big monstrosity screaming: ‘Don’t accidentally mistake her for a boy!!!”

      • Monabel

Yes, I know. And when they apologise if they mistake her for a boy. Yuk.

    • Monabel

      Erratic.

    • MoHub

There are some seriously gynotastic hemlines and slits in this collection. They scare me.

    • Jennifer L.

I can’t handle most of the extra floof on the pieces from the ribcage up, but love the tailoring on the pants + the purple iris dress.

      • MoHub

Love the purple iris dress, but then irises are my favorite flowers. I do wish the stem wasn’t pointing straight at the good china, though.

      • AmeliaEve

That iris dress is amazing. A complete departure from most everything else in this collection, which has a fairly unified feel, but so stunning for the right person.

    • decormaven

No. 17, the white/black ensemble, is appealing in its simplicity. The pants ensembles – just no. The things at the end, are too much, too much. And I’m baffled by the ornate floral backdrops and the hair adornments.

    • DuBey2

This is interesting. Thanks again, TLo, for bringing to us a designer I had personally never heard of and probably would not have until he/she? stopped being innovative.

    • Deb_Lynn

WELL…. now I just feel spoiled by Valentino & JPG… this felt thrown together…

    • MilaXX

Some interesting play on shapes. Some work for me (that gray/purple gown w/ the floral print cape like thingy), and some don’t (the black vulcan shouldered gown). As a collection I kinda like it.

    • mjude

i like some of the pieces.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

I love the black dress with the iris.

      • Isabel

It will upgrade red carpet events

    • Tatiana Luján

I like #11 and the last one.

    • gabbilevy

For some reason, I’m imagining Shelly O really rocking some of these (toned down on the structural elements, of course).

    • MrsAtaxxia

I was so distracted by the strange scalp stickers that I almost couldn’t pay attention to the garments, but from what I did see, a lot of this looks overworked to the point of not fitting very well, which for Couture is pretty fucking tragic.

      • mellbell

My first (and only) thought was, “This is couture?”

    • marlie

Some really interesting pieces and beautiful elements, but some of it is a little too fussy and/or pedestrian.

    • plinkiedoodle

      Just no.

    • Annarosa

sometime it is too creased, but it’s not bad. I love the shades of blue that have been used.

    • Pennymac

I despise this with an unreasonable passion. Not sure why I’m having such a visceral revulsion, but there it is.

    • Louise Bryan

Artsy, with some pretty things, but most of this reads more spring than fall to me, with floral prints and pastels.

    • bertkeeter

      Couture for 30′s something billionaires!

    • Lori

I will forgive Angelina Jolie for every Jolie she has ever pulled if she just channels Maleficent and wears the black one on the red carpet.

    • Frank_821

These are visually very striking. I don’t hate but it’s very 1960s Star Trek. Many of the alien women Kirk bedded wore fashions just like it

    • Isabel

The Fanning girls could wear no. 5

    • Miss WKS

      two words.
      edi. ting.

    • maggiemaybe

I LIKE this stuff! Those pale periwinkle blue matador pants are rocking my world. (Now there’s a sentence I never thought I’d write…)

    • silaria

My first thought was that these were gorgeous fantasy, but I couldn’t see anyone wearing them in real life. But screw it, it’s art, and it’s beautiful.

I really, really hope the costume designer for the Maleficent movie buys that last black one straight off the runway.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I think I may just be getting bored with fashion. The last collections that made me want to go out and buy clothes were John Galliano’s 2011 collections. (Yes, yes, I know…but I love his designs.)

      • Fordzo

For me, it was the Marc Jacobs for LV with the train. It made me want to go get a velvet coat and some amazing luggage, then get on a train with a sexy porter to carry my bags.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

In the midst of all the pretty, a dress that looks like a gray, latex condom. Hooookaaayyyyy.

    • BrooklynBomber

Wow. I’ve got whiplash, going back and forth between “Ooh!” and “Ew!”

    • Qitkat

I freaking love this collection. Fairytale goddess. I couldn’t wear a single piece, but if I could, it would be the black slit number (4th from bottom) with the beautiful purple orchid/iris floral element. Or the cool lavendar grey column (3 above the black slit) with the flowey floral cape. Or any of the looks with pants. Or the short pink dress. Or the blue vagina slit dress (what is wrong with me today?) because of the cute green netting around the shoulders. Maybe it’s the French/Italianate/Renaissance fireplace bedecked with gorgeous flowers. Maybe on a runway, I would be…meh. I don’t care, today I wish to be this woman, so badly, slender, fascinator on my hair, preparing for a ball in my honor.

      • kirkyo

        Psst…I loved it too.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

      Hello, I am a condom.

    • Pudgy Possum

      pretty, feminine, delicate, perfect.

    • Hillary Meredith

My thought was: when tablescapes attack. The models look like either they got up from the table with their napkin tucked in or they pulled a Sound of Music in a party planner’s show room.

    • LaSylphide

Some hits, some misses, but that red coat at the end!!! Love it

    • Insidiously

      Absolutely hideous

    • conniemd

I like the black dress with the light blue colors on the bodice and the black dress with the orchid (I stand corrected by others that it’s an Iris). Otherwise, they are mostly too busy or have too many concepts going on at the same time.

    • majorbedhead

Too much of a muchness. It also reads spring to me, not fall.

    • a_liking

I like it; seems very Queen Titania and the fairy court to me. :)

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

there’s a wonderful book called ‘the great night”, based on a midsummer night’s dream but it’s set in buena vista park in san francisco in present day. if they made a movie of it, these would be the costumes.

    • crash1212

      Really love the shoes.

    • Anniebet

First pic, I thought.. yuck. Then it kept getting better and better (mostly). Love the pants and quite a few of the dresses. The weird shoulder shit is just weird. Speaking of weird – damn, that one, fifth from the bottom, with cream skirt, red bow and breasticle triangles AND black lace AND hiddy shoulder wing thingies – that’s just plain atrocious.

    • Monapily

This whole collection is serving up Themyscira realness. LOVE.

    • DilettanteDeconstructed

The last one looks like a snuggie that was glammed up for a white tie event. Somebody had to say it.

    • NoveltyRocker

Gorgeous backdrop. I would love a little hidden corner of a garden just like that…

      • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Put potted plants in and around your fireplace. That’s all they did. Also try to have a Rococo fireplace. :D

        • NoveltyRocker

I will try to have a place that can house just any kind of fireplace first.

          • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Or… or you could draw a fireplace on one of your walls (preferably in a sunny room), then get one of those metalic gold sharpies and doodle squiggles all around it as appropriate. Spray paint some naked Barbies bronze and pose them so they’re grabbing their head in that “oh god, I left my purse at work” way, glue them on either side (or use those Command strips if you’re renting), then put some potted plants in front of the whole shebang. Bam! Instant Pintrest bait!

            • NoveltyRocker

Das a lotta effort but I bet they’d get the crap Pinned out of them for sure, haha!

    • demidaemon

A lot of WTF on display here. Additionally, this designer loves the crotch hugging pant as well as the crotch baring skirt. Go crotches!

    • quiltrx

A lot of “pretty with an edge” here! Some is definitely in “one (or two) too many elements” territory, but overall I like the ideas if not always the execution.
I think #6 and the iris gown are my favorites. They both look like costumes for a Poirot episode, which coming from me is very high praise.
And were I an evil queen, I would wear the gown just below the iris and have a massive, pointy crown to go with.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Everything Florence Welch should be wearing. Wouldn’t mind seeing Lucy Liu work that powder-blue high-waist pants and blouse combo, either. Wouldn’t mind seeing Tilda Swinton or Grace Jones in the hooded gray dress, either.

    • frannyprof

      Seems very amateurish to me.

    • Kelli Anderson Taylor

      I — don’t get it.

    • ewes_urn_aim

This is the 3rd time I’ve come back to look at this collection- usually I never look at a post twice. But these pieces are so amazing and fantastical! This helps me forget the real world for a while (especially ugly places like Florida).

    • VicD

What a waste of beautiful fabrics and trims.

    • out for a walk

I want to see the 3rd from the bottom on SWINTON.
