WERQ: Patina Miller in Zac Posen

Posted on June 10, 2013

Pardon us, Miss. We may not be entirely familiar with your work, but we simply had to tell you that your WERQ is giving us LIFE.

Patina Miller attends the 2013 Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in a Zac Posen gown accessorized with Fred Leighton jewelry.

Zac Posen Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Ming Xi

What a gorgeous and dramatic dress. It looks stunning on her. We can’t applaud a well-deployed print on the red carpet enough, darlings. Brave, Miss Lady. Theater snaps.

Can’t believe it’s a Zac Posen, it looks kinda simple in comparison to some of his other dresses. Of course it helps that she’s WERQing it like there’s no tomorrow.

    • I know! Me too! I usually loathe him but she brought life to this. She was positively ethereal. It was her night.

  • MilaXX

I was unfamiliar with her as well, but after last night, I shall be getting more acquainted.

    • Sobaika

Stunning, Tony-winning, and can werq like that? If she doesn’t get some bigger industry shine immediately then something weird is underfoot.

      • carpediva

Sadly, I don’t think it would be so much weird as it would be expected. 🙁

        (Love your posts btw.)

        • Sobaika

          Thank you!

And well, yeah. It would be expected. But I have hope. If she gets lucky she can end up in the Zoe Saldana/Kerry Washington class of WoC trying to break through the glass ceiling.

Also can talk about how 3 out of 4 of the major acting awards at the Tonys went to black actors!!

      • Rand Ortega

Her best bet would be to remain in the theater, considering the lack of roles, particularly leading, for women of color in film & television. The only reason Audra McDonald got any attention outside of Broadway, regardless of her amazing talent, was thanks to Shonda Rhimes. Similar goes for Kerry Washington (who, before “Scandal”, only got supporting work in films like “Mr & Mrs. Smith”, “Fantastic Four”, etc.).

    • Robin K. Osterberg

She has the part of the leading player in Pippin…. A part was played by Ben Vereen in the original play…. a part that was defining for him… it’s awesome that they cast a beautiful and talented woman for such a great part!!

    • Crystal

She went to my high school! Not at the same time as I went there, but all of my old high school friends and I had a Tony viewing party and cheered for her when she won! 🙂

  • steeg of their own

It looks SO much better on her than on the model!

    (Also, I covet that bracelet)

    • lexilexi

Yes, Patina is gorgeous – the model is a skeleton.

    • Qitkat

This is the first serpent bracelet I have desired. Great color with the dress.

    • Patricia Gillett

You are so right. Not sure if it’s the play of the fabric with her skin tone or her figure, but she is really rocking this.

    • Rhonda Shore

It really does! This is architectural design at its best and it requires a more curvy physique to properly fill it out.

  • TheAmericaness

Very nice, well done. Looks like Little Duchess kept his origami folds to a minimum for once which keeps me from thinking the poor celebrity is being turned into a napkin swan. She looks fab.

  • rloliveira

    What a gorgeous, gorgeous dress.

  • Lovely indeed!

  • majorbedhead

I never would have guessed that was a Zac Posen dress. It’s gorgeous.

  • Qitkat

She looked simply splendid last evening, and was so thrilled and charming when she won her Tony.
    Definitely a Werq!

  • Exquisite. I mean, really.

  • Glam Dixie

I like everything here but her makeup.

    • Sheneve Butler

Yeah, I agree. I really don’t like her makeup.

  • DesertDweller79

Fantastic! Wow! I have no idea who she is, but she looks amazing! Love the dress. Wow, Zac Posen? Really? Wow. Love the bracelet. Love her makeup. Love her!

  • Scimommy

I am speechless at how gorgeous that dress is. I am shocked that it’s Zac Posen. Whoever she is (sorry, not a theater buff here) she looks amazing in it. And again, what a gorgeous dress. First time ever I am getting an urge to start a Pinterest page or whatever, just to put the photo of the dress there and look at it once in a while. Just, wow.

  • Huzzah!

  • Chickadeep

OMG that snake bracelet…perfect touch. Miss Lady gets the “T” in her EGOT looking all kinds of fabulous.

  • Janet B

Love, I couldn’t get enough of her (and her dress) last night.

  • Julia

    arms aRMS A R M S

  • Sagecreek

WOW. I have no idea who she is, but she brought it last night.

  • OH that’s beautiful. I may have caught my breath for a moment there. Just gorgeous. I hope she had a good time, whoever she is.

  • Katerina

That bracelet! That clutch! That corset top and flowing tulle! This is the WERQiest WERQ I’ve seen in a while.

  • gracedarling

I don’t think that dusty blue is the best for her colouring – something a little more purple-based would really light her up – but that’s almost by the by. She clearly feels beautiful, so I wouldn’t grudge a thing.

  • Anniebet

Damn, that’s one astounding dress. Bravo Mr. Posen, you hit a home run with this one. And brava Ms. Miller, too. She’s deliriously lovely here. The only nit I can pick is the manicure.

  • Introspective

Shes from the revival of Pippin on Broadway. And my god isnt she fierce!!!

Fab dress. Even more fab figure. Love!

    • ItsDicey

      She really is fierce. Dayum!

  • bertkeeter

On TV her shoulders and arms made her look like a muscular tranny….Maybe if bodice was not so tiny or some shoulder treatment they wouldn’t have looked so huge! Nice gown….just not on her!

    • demidaemon

I don’t see what you are seeing. At all.

      • bertkeeter

Did you see show live? She is very muscular as you’d expect being a dancer / actor….just felt the super tight bodice accentuated her shoulders and arms in a not so flattering way!

        • Kristin McNamara

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that this gown doesn’t look good on her. But I 100% know what you’re talking about from the live show… while she was giving her acceptance speech, I said to my friends in the room at least twice, “my GOD she is jacked”. But I don’t think that’s anything a different dress would’ve hidden though, so I’m happy to see her WERQing the hell out of this one 🙂

          • bertkeeter

Regardless…She’s stunning as is Zac’s gown!

          • Guest

*stunned silence* Did Bert Keeter from Project Runway just respond to me?! Wow, that’s so cool! Hi Bert!!!

      • julnyes

Agree – what I saw was a beautiful athletic woman who owned the stage and walked off with the prize.

  • TSkot

Best red carpet look of the entire year? Yeah, I think so.

  • Ronica Skarphol Brownson

She deserves some serious snaps for those arms! And her skin absolutely glows. Gorgeous! *jazz hands*

  • Last pic: she is beautiful and she knows it.

  • Citagaze

It’s only fitting. When you basically slayed the musical version of Deloris Van Cartier from “Sister Act: The Musical,” you learn how to demand the attention of all the lower beings around you.

  • MilaXX

    Finally watching on CBS.com
For years Pippin was synonymous with Ben Vereen in my mind. Mr. Vereen may have to make room for a new kid on the block.

    • SpillinTea

OK?! I love Mr Vereen, but after seeing Ms Patina do contortions on that giant swing thing, he’s got company.

  • Rand Ortega

Like it owes her rent! GO ON!

  • LaSylphide

That is a double WERQ if ever I saw one. Who on earth is she? She’s simply stunning.

    • alyce1213

She’s the new, female Ben Vereen — she’s The Player in “Pippin.” She was previously nominated for a Tony for “Sister Act.” So, she’s a Broadway Star.

      • Donna Tabor

She was utterly heartstopping in her performance. I wish I could go to NYC to see her in Pippin.

      • Russ

Saw her in Sister Act. She was the epitome of “Fabulous, Baby”

    • Adelaidey

This is who on the Earth she is.

Patina Miller is simply amazing. Her life is a WERQ.

  • carolynmo

Seeing her accept her award was thrilling. She was glowing! Excellent Tony show.

  • alyce1213

Best dress of the night for sure. She is gorgeous and so talented, can’t wait to see Pippin.

  • carpediva

Reason eleventy billion I know nothing about fashion: I actually gasped with dismay when I saw the closeup of the snake bracelet. But she is so magnificently flawless in every other respect it became moot. Next stop: Wikipedia!

  • BuffaloBarbara

    Woo! Love this dress!

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

    Wow. Spectacular all round.

  • TLJezebel

    Freakin’ flawless.

  • berkeleygirl

I loved this last night, but the color didn’t read as well as here. Honestly, I thought it was all taupes and greys. This is GORGEOUS!!!

  • Darren Nesbitt

It looks like she’s transparent. Really cool effect.

  • Eovaai

    This is amazing.

  • epenthesis

    From last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWIjfxmZXf4&list=FLXiALUTsSYqKHugaXXKUYAg

She comes on at about 1:35, in case you don’t feel like watching a cute boy sing “Corner of the Sky” first.

  • SewingSiren

Perfect. With special love for the turquoise snake bracelet and python purse.

  • JP

That is just so amazingly gorgeous!

  • quiltrx

Beautiful! Looks WAY better on her than the model. Well done.

  • LauraAgain

Funny how much difference the color of the carpet (red? rust?) makes when looking at the dress. In the first picture, I think the dress looks gray/mushroom brown, but in the next-to-last the dress is a beautiful blue and cream. Her skin is gorgeous, the whole look is very pretty, but if I could change one thing it would be her hair. That style just doesn’t work for me.

  • ankali

Absolutely lovely. The dress is pretty to start with, and she elevates it to stunning.

  • j_anson

  • PrunellaV

Taylor Swift is eating her fist in envy.

  • GTrain

  • crash1212

This was one of my favorites of the night. WERQ indeed.

  • nannypoo

The dress is beautiful, but look at that face. Spectacular.

  • RinPauler

Wow, I’m shocked that is a Zac Posen dress because his gowns are usually butt-ugly and always the same damn mermaid. This is amazing in fabric, construction, and everything. And Ming Xi <3

  • marlie

She looks fabulous! I love the print and the color, and it has just enough visual interest without going overboard.

  • MiriamMc75

I don’t know who she is – but she took my breath away! Stunningly beautiful!!!

  • Hannah Prutton

  • Karen Clark

I was speechless when she walked out in this gown. Simply lovely, beautiful.

  • ItsDicey

Love this lady and she is SHUTTING IT DOWN. Stunning!

  • Tafadhali

I think Patina Miller is a goddess and she is so, so, so, so wonderful in Pippin (a show I hate) and I was ecstatic when she won. The dress, on the otherhand…well, it looked a bit like brushed denim in person, from a distance, but I will admit it’s a lot lovelier up close where I can see the detail.

  • Di

AND she won a Tony! =)

  • Diego!

It’s a WERQ indeed. She looks stunning! I have to remark a necklace is missing here tough… 😛

  • GorgeousThings

She is gorgeous. I saw her in “Pippin” when it was at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge. She was PHENOMENAL. She owned every scene she was in. She and Andrea Martin were worth the price of admission alone, and that is saying something, given the strength of the entire cast.

  • Damien W

    Another year-end contender! Flawless.

  • MaggieMae

I don’t even know her, but I’m in love!

  • Ann VerWiebe

When she got up to accept her Tony, I thought, “THAT’s a Tony acceptance dress!”

  • tereliz

Just flawless. What a gorgeous dress, gorgeous lady.

  • Donna Tabor

It was Miss Miller’s night, wasn’t it? This fabulous gown, her amazing performance, her Tony win, AND her adorably excited acceptance speech. I don’t how she’ll ever top it.

  • formerlyAnon

    Dang! Gorgeous.

  • stubbornthoughts

  • nyazgirl

It looks like the lower half of the dress is exploding out of her vagina. Yep. I said it.

  • Jeff Warhurst

I think this dress is horrible.

  • largishbearishAtlish

And the beautiful purple clock over her shoulder is a PERFECT accesory (sp)- she *must* have gays in high places to pull that off. The dress is rapturous! and the snake bracelet could look silly on another mortal- but she works the hell out of it! And nothing tops perfection like that smile….(anyone knows if she won? what she was up for?

  • PeaceBang

I already had a major girl crush on her and now this. Gorgeous, super talented, strong, and now this outfit… dang.

  • Walburga

Gorgeous. I have had the chance to see the new revival she is in several times now and SHE IS AMAZING. A major talent – sings soulfully, dances incredibly, her acting is remarkable and she even hula hoops while doing all three at one point. Wow. AND – she looks like THAT, which is to say, f***ing fierce and gorgeous. If you can get to NYC to see her, it is well worth it (the rest of the show is great fun too). So glad to see her spotlighted on my favorite blog!

  • bellafigura1

WOW, star-maker dress. I never covet red carpet big dresses (hmmn, maybe because I have absolutely no where to wear them?) but this is lust-worthy. I think it would be terrific short, too!

  • E. D.

    WERQ for sure.

  • Mariah J

  • amber.

we love patina miller & we love patina miller in zac posen.

  • shelley514

That little snake bracelet is the cutest thing! He looks like a little pet visiting her arm.

  • librarygrrl64

  • She looks radiant.

  • BeautyChick101

Patina Miller is a goddess. I saw Pippin this weekend and she was incredible! Loved her dress at the Tonys, too.
