Taylor Swift in Emilio Pucci

Posted on June 13, 2013

We’re suing Taylor Swift. We just dislocated our jaws from yawning so hard:

Taylor Swift attends the 2013 Fragrance Foundation Awards at Lincoln Center in New York City in an Emilio Pucci white silk plissé halterneck gown with a sheer insert accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

She’s constantly starring in a perfume ad in her own head, isn’t she? We think that must be why she gets on our nerves. Some people are starring in Gone with the Wind inside their heads and some people only have the kind of imagination to put themselves in a 30-second soft-focus fragrance ad that ends with “Available at Kohl’s.” Guess which kind of person we prefer.

Haha. We do so love to get you Tay-fans all worked up. Calm yourselves. We’re joking. Well, we’re not joking that it’s kind of boring and pretty much the quintessential Tay-look, but she looks pretty. Really. Boring, but pretty.

I surprisingly really like the eye makeup here. It accentuates the beautiful color of her eyes and doesn’t make them look as tiny as when they use the thick black on her. The dress bores me

    • Lesley

LOVE her eye makeup. Her makeup artist seems to be the only part of her team that’s got it right. She just needs to hire a new stylist ASAP and get rid of those damn bangs!

      • Tatiana Luján

The makeup artist also seems like the only one in her team to be having fun.

  • Donna Tabor

You guys seem to set the bar higher for her for some reason. Are you starring as Joan Rivers in your own heads?

    Just kidding. Love you.

    • gabbilevy

The bar is more or less the same for all skinny, young, rich, white starlets, Tay just fails to clear it more often than most.

  • Latin Buddy

This girl is annoying as hell (reminder, she and Adele are the SAME age…), but I kinda like this for committing to a “look” and going there.

    • ailujailuj

what a stark comparison. Tay is a dingdong but that’s what has made her famous among the dingdong crowd. she wears that hair a lot and I don’t know why. She needs some sheen on that head and some creativity in it.

    • demidaemon

That’s kind of hard to believe. Adele always gives off this vibe of old soul maturity while all I get from Tay is immature petulance with a sidebar of vengeance.

    • Emily

I think Adele is a year and a half older than Taylor.

    • Addictedtowhitewater

I am not really a Taylor Swift fan and have to admit Adele does not get much play on my ipod anymore due to over exposure (I play something I love until I HATE it, then need a break to find the love again, haha) but I have to say I always feel bad when I see these kind of comments (LB this is not directed at you per se- I see this type of post every time Taylor is featured and just decided to comment now, in response to your comment). Taylor and Adele may be the same age or (1.5 years apart?) but that doesn’t mean they have to be in the same place in life emotionally, financially, etc… we all take our own unique paths and are shaped and molded by those paths. I am 38 and in a much different place than many of my chronological peers. I don’t judge them for that and believe they don’t judge me either. It’s ok to be ourselves. Unfortunately for her, Taylor’s ‘self’ just happens to annoy many people…

    • drdarke

Yeah, @latinbuddy:disqus – I sort of like the Pretty Pretty Princess look she’s rocking here. It’s virginal to the point of mock-worthy, but I think it looks good on Taylor Swift….

  • Rhonda Shore

Her last few RC looks were better, i was hoping she was getting away from the virginal white and her whole coy thing.

  • NC_Meg

Very predictable coming from her but very pretty. I like the eye makeup. The hair is eh, though.

  • Jessica Freeman

Over the booms. And white being her unofficial signature color. Yawn.

  • sablehunter

Boring and predictable, but still pretty. The I Dream of Jeannie bangs need to go.

  • Macunaima

Awwww. She missed Tweeland, and Tweeland missed her.

    • imspinningaround

I don’t think I would use the word “twee” to describe a look with so much sideboob.

      • Macunaima

I completely see what you are saying. It is my personal belief that Tay-Tay’s tweeness can overcome even that, but I understand that this may be a character flaw.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

the dress is insanely too long. Unless its designed for her to be carried everywhere in a palaquin.

    • Heather

I think that’s the idea. In her dream commercial at least.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Senior wife in the Sultan’s harem?

        • Heather

I think Sacrificial Virgin is more the look she tries for. Available at Kohl’s!

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

That would be in their Erzatz Virginity department, right?

          • decormaven

            Ding, ding, ding! Winner!

      • ankali

OK, but being carried around in a palaquin is at least as awesome a movie to roll in your head as Gone with the Wind.

    • 3boysful

I was picturing the serf (or serfs) who had to arrange all that organza just so before the photo. You know she did not just hit the mark, pick up the skirt, drop it, and have it fall like that.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You’d better believe it. Some handler had to fuss those acres of silk plisse’ over and over to get it just like that.

        • Donna Tabor

Definitely not organza. Silk plisse’, you say? That’s a new one for me, KnT! It looks like crystal pleated chiffon to me.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Plisse’ is similar to chiffon both I hand and drape. Its primary difference being a tighter weave than chiffon, so it is less transparent.

          • Donna Tabor

            Thanks for the info.

    • Sara__B

A palaquin would be a welcomed non-boring addition.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Is it because she’s melting? Someone please confirm that she’s melting.

      • girliecue

In the perfume commercial playing in my head she is definitely melting. Melting completely away.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I think it’s another dress that would benefit from a wind machine. It wants to waft and float.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

We love you because you use the word “palaquin” in a sentence.

      • Davona

        Isn’t the correct word palanquin?

    • Louise Bryan

More perfume, please! I’m melting, I’m melting!

  • TSkot

    Everyone should look so boring.

  • ms_kat

I don’t know anything about Taylor Swift other than she sings so I’m not a Tay Fan. But I think her skin looks INCREDIBLE here. If this dress were a color or a pattern it would be lovely.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Hmm.. I’m going to disagree here. No huge Tay fan, and generally I don’t like her looks, but this one is especially pretty to my eye. I like her hair up here better than with the bangs AND down. The dress is really gorgeous, and against that crazy print background, it seems to really stand out. I don’t know how often these stars dress to fit in/not clash with the background at the event they are attending, but a bold dress could have looks especially nuts against that backdrop. I’m giving a pass here… more than a pass actually. I think she looks amazing. There I said it.

    • lac87

I could not agree more on the hair front. Since she went straight with it, I just can’t help but think it looks so dull. I don’t know if it’s the color or texture or both, but hiding 90% of it in that updo does help.

    • conniemd

I agree. The dress is really gorgeous in a classic Grecian look. I understand the boringness that is Tay, but this is a dress that would have looked gorgeous on a lot of women.

  • GillianHolroyd

Twee as fuck but anything else would be false advertising, no?

    • HomeOfficeGirl

How is this twee? SHE is twee, yes. But the look? The dress?

      • Betsy

Because inside that dress (which is lovely), is still her with her “I’m too sexy for my dress” internal message.

        • Chris

I don’t understand how that makes it twee though.

      • Chris

I have to agree with you. String neck halter dress with sheer panel in the middle and hint of “side boob” does not equal twee for me either. I think except for the pools of fabric on the ground she looks pretty sophisticated here.

  • Patricia Gillett

Hate the panel in the center. Hate her bangs. Get off my lawn.

  • YoungSally

The original Stepford wives was on last night…..all Tay needs is the big hat and she’s ready to go grocery shopping.

  • Carleenml

who manages to find a boring, all white, PUCCI of all things. Oh, right.

  • Anathema_Device

Eh, I don’t mind it all too much. At least she has moved away from the glitter and sequins.

I don’t like the way the bodice is hanging on her…or not hanging. It looks like it is stuck to her boobs with tape, rather than draping. Otherwise, she looks very pretty.

    • smallgirlsaretrouble

Yeah, it just all seems too “big” for her, hence the impression it is sliding off

  • Betsy

Is the “perfume ad” inner story the reason she’s ALWAYS photographed looking over her shoulder, with her eyes looking up at the ceiling? I’m thinking specifically photo #3 above. Does she think that’s sexy? Because it’s just vomiticious!

    • lac87

I find the cocked head in photo #1 equally offensive. Girl, you are not a puppy. Stop it. I can’t stop thinking about what would happen if she and Lea Michelle happened to meet on the RC. Between her fragrance commercial dreamy face and LM’s perpetual Maxim photo shoot vamping, I think someone’s head might explode.

  • Emily Smith

How does she walk in that without tripping and falling on her face?

    • Sara__B

She undoubtedly has a “train wrangler” following her around.

      • Emily Smith

Hm that must be how you really know you’re getting somewhere in life. Some starlet’s “train wrangler”

  • TheAmericaness

She’s quite beautiful, but when I first saw these pics, I half expected my friend’s six year old little girl’s fingers to come reaching down to pluck her up, adjust her dress and set her down in a new pose. She looks so … Barbie here. Of course if little S’s fingers actually picked her up and adjusted her, she may have come back down with a jean jacket on as well or her hair cut. Which might not be so bad, though her head could be in danger of not staying attached as well, but that’s the danger of being Barbie.

    • marlie

Absolutely. She really, REALLY looks like a Barbie here.

  • hmariec19

    The Fragrance Foundation Awards.

    I give up.

    • alyce1213

I’m not surprised. Fragrance is a multibillion dollar, global business and of course they have to award themselves . . . somehow.

    • Bethany Roullett

Don’t you imagine that those awards must have smelled awful? Too many fragrances all in one room. I’m sneezing just thinking about it.

      • Heather

Ugh no kidding. I have an allergy attack just walking past a Perfumania store. I actually loathe most perfume.

  • Heather

In my head, I’m starring in a remake of ‘The Sound of Music’ as Liesl, cavorting in the Alps.

  • Sara

“They said you were, ‘pretty but boring.’ No I’m sorry that’s ‘pretty boring.’”

    • http://thatswhatthemoneyisfor.wordpress.com/ lizlemonglasses

      Love that reference!

  • Mlzx

I think this was intelligent dressing. The texture of her gown mimics the flowers in the backdrop without blending in or competing with them in color. Her hair is very different than I’ve seen it before. Her eye makeup is gorgeous. Even the excess length makes the gown look like a blooming flower.

  • bertkeeter

Wearing a dress with a train all over the place like that is a hell of a lot of work! “Excuse me, but your standing on my dress” times a hundred by the end of the evening! It all would look better and more today with out all that dragging behind her.

  • Little_Olive

“She’s constantly starring in a perfume ad in her own head, isn’t she? ”

    Boy, are you inspired today!

  • MzzPants

I’m starring in ‘Went with the Wind’ in my head, curtain rod and all.

  • ellabob

Annoying – talent free – great publicist – and on and on and on…

  • carnush

Is she trying to look vacant in pictures? It irritates me.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Who arranged the skirt on the floor for her? And how did she move around?

  • Funkykatt

I liked it better when she was dressing like a 14 year old.

  • housefulofboys

Yawn-worthy for sure, but perhaps a reasonable choice against that busy background.

  • EEKstl

“She’s constantly starring in a perfume ad in her own head, isn’t she?” Thank you for making lunchtime complete.

  • ConnieBV

This chick is the yin to Angelina Jolie’s yang for me. One dresses in black and will always represent the femme fatale persona, this one dresses in white and beats the virginal thing into the ground. Both get preemptive meh’s whenever I see them.

  • lrober03

The bodice doesn’t look like it fits her? But she usually doesn’t have a problem with fit, so I’m guessing it’s some sort of illusion with the type and color of the fabric.

  • http://blog.mattalgren.com/ Matt Algren

    Available at Kohl’s. OUCH.

  • librarygrrl64

    “Available at Kohl’s.” Yep. And I like Kohl’s. But I am a middle-aged civilian, not a 20-something mega-star.

  • thecitysleeps

Not enough MEHs in the world.

  • MilaXX

It really does look like a video or commercial for her latest fragrance. In the commercial the hem will morph into a flower as the voice over announces the name of her latest stink oil.

  • Tatiana Luján

“She’s constantly starring in a perfume ad in her own head, isn’t she?” is one of the best lines I’ve read from you. It shares the podium with the Chloe Sevigny posts.

  • marlie

Yawn, indeed. It’s pretty, but definitely boring, and unoriginal, for her. And in the 4th picture down, her face legit looks like a Barbie doll.

    • LadyLuck777

Thank you! I totally thought Barbie as well, especially with the wonky eye makeup.

  • BlueBell42

Tinkerbell called. She wants her updo back.

  • PeaceBang

I think the dress is really pretty but I hate the super tacky eyeshadow.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

HILARIOUS. What I wouldn’t give for someone – anyone – to convince her to leave that ‘Li’l ol’ me?’ act in the dustbin.

  • Calista14

Can someone please do something with her hair color? A few highlights, lowlights, something?

  • Tuneful54

More side boobage, impelling me to hurl some of my lunch.

  • elephantasmagoric

Apart from the godawful hair, it’s actually quite a pretty dress/look. The problem is that it’s the same dress she ALWAYS wears, from the shape down to the colour. It’s so tragically boring at this point- tragic because she’s managed to turn something lovely into dishwater dullness. Someone needs to slap that girl with a metric ton of colour.

  • clairellis

I know I’m biased bc I love Tay, but with the business if the background I think she looks amazing. It’s a pretty dress, boring yes, but pretty. And her hair and makeup is pretty great. It’s boring for a red carpet but still feminine and appropriate.

  • Heather

I go in for my complimentary bang trim about 2 weeks BEFORE my bangs start to look like that.

  • demidaemon

There are Tay-fans here? Color me surprised.

As for this particular outfit, it is to yawn.

  • Pterodactyl111

I kind of like her hair, though.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

“She’s constantly starring in a perfume ad in her own head, isn’t she?”

    TLo NAILED IT.

(I’ve been trying for months to figure out what her expression reminded me of!)

  • quiltrx

Can’t unsee the hair…Tinkerbell goes to prom!

  • kolokOlchik

    Barbie doll

  • ZnSD

    ugh. she is to vomit.

  • Aaminah Khan

I think it’s a cool, slightly grown-up twist on her usual princess drag – still girly, but with a bit of sexiness to it. I like it.

  • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

I’m a T-Swizzle fan and I’m bored with this look. The only thing saving it is her makeup.

  • Mollye Readinger-Scott

There are certain things I never need to hear/see agin in my life, I have reached my limit. They are,” Wind Beneath My Wings”, The movie Les Miserables and Taylor Swift. Enough already.

  • kaycem

i LOVE her makeup here! i know it’s basically her same face, but the aqua/turquoise tweaks it in a way that really works for me, especially when paired with all that white (i mean the dress).

  • Andrea Lentz

i LOVE her eye-makeup. her hair is the most boring thing really, this is an ok dress for the event i guess.

  • MaggieMae

I don’t love the pooling fabric on the floor, but the neckline & lines of the bodice are sexy as hell.

  • Jim Cochran

    She looks good.

    She looks fine.

    So why do you

    whine. whine, whine?

    • Laylalola

They’re fabulous and opinionated, and people are allowed to say out loud that Tay looks as well dressed and as exciting as a mannequin.

  • Michelle Wilson

It’s like every day she’s having a wedding rehearsal for her third marriage.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

So boring…what a meh dress. And I hate her hair. Time to ditch the bangs; you can only do that for about 6 months before they expire.

  • PrunellaV

    Pia Zadora, Jr.

  • Ummy

    Self proclaimed Tay fan.

I don’t dislike it. It’s pulled together well and not offensive. But it’s typical and unexciting. Think it’s better in white than it would be in say, black (so over black dresses with sheer cutouts), but would love it more in a red (but then there’s just be jokes about melting into the carpet).

Love the face and hair, except the OCD in me is screaming “HER BANGS AREN’T STRAIGHT!”
