Cute for a garden party or a bridal shower. Movie premiere, not so much.

    • carnush

Yeah, this is more of a ‘summer night out’ outfit. She dressed it up with the shoes, but it’s still too casual.

    • Jessica Freeman

Add some flat sandals and its a go.

    • Little_Olive

Garden party? Maybe if the “garden” were the 6×8 patch of grass on a NY terrace…

      • ConnieBV

I’m in Chicago. The garden party is either at the Arboretum or a Golf Club. In either case, black wouldn’t be out of the question.

  • Latin Buddy

I love that Sandy used to be the poor-man’s Julia Roberts and here she is looking amazing in spite of the dress.

  • Lesley

i adore this dress although, not on her and not for a movie premiere. but her face and hair look beautiful.

  • AlisonS

Those shoes take this dress from easy, breezy and make it just look… Wrong.

    • Jessica Freeman

It’s the shoes…for sure. The dress isn’t horrible…but the shoes just are not right.

  • Heather

Hot shoes, plus they fit and her pedi is pretty. What more can we ask?

    • Janet B

      It’s such a rarity.

      • Heather

I am a mere mortal and I keep my feet pedicured. I think of it as an act of respect to those next to and behind me in yoga class.

    • MartyBellerMask

‘Cept for the escaping toe in the first pic…

  • TheAmericaness

I’m not sure the hem length and the shoes really work.

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t know what it *should* be, but that’s the wrong hem length for a dress that otherwise is working pretty well. I like the shoes.

  • marlie

It’s an… OK dress, but for casual Saturday afternoons/evenings, not an event like this.

    • Annarosa

agreed. “that don’t impress me much.”

  • sweatpantalternative

The shoes are doing all the work here.

  • Lori

She really looks good, but I’m not sold on the rest of it. Her hair is sort of tragic, I don’t like the faux “look at my bra” aspect of the dress, the hem is just awkward and the shoes are wrong for it. .

    • charlotte

And yet hair that isn’t pin-straight is an improvement for her.

      • Lori

Yeah, but this is just so half-assed. When you’re attending something called a “Gala Screening” your hair should be whole assed.

        • Nan

Agreed. It looks like she got out of the shower, towel-dried it, and went on her way. The center part isn’t helping matters either.

  • sugarkane105

I love her crazy-girl hair. She looks sexy.

  • MoHub

I was okay—not thrilled, but okay—with the dress until I saw the back. It reads bondage wear in the worst way.

    • mellbell

Yep. It’s a turn-around fug (if there is such a thing).

      • MoHub

        There is now. Thank you!

  • stephbellard

When did she turn into Cher?

    • I see that too. Not every shot, put there’s a strong hint of it coming on.

    • Sunraya

      In “The Witches ofEastwick”,

  • It’s weird it looks kind of like a slip or petticoat from a Western. However, she looks great in it. I really dislike the shoes. But yet overall she pulls this off.

  • plinkiedoodle

I love this….except for that stupid hem. Death to all mullets!

    • marlie

This one doesn’t bother me so much. There a fine line between a slightly asymmetrical hemline (this one), and a schizophrenic mullet dress that doesn’t know if it wants to be long or short.

  • nannypoo

I don’t like the dress, the shoes or the hair, but she has a beautiful face so I’ll just focus on that. She looks great.

  • Nancer

    I think she looks smashing!

    • Spicytomato1

I’m with you. I think it’s an unexpected choice of dress and it works. She’s beautiful.

  • Deac82

I might get blasted for saying this…but, I wish it was a jumpsuit.

    • Molly Jo Sanderson

No, I think you’re totally and utterly right … Why wasn’t this a jumpsuit? It would have worked perfectly. Good call!

    • mhleta

      Same thought here. I agree.

  • Howard Sturrup

The shoes outshine the dress…… I do like understated pieces but this dress should never have seen the light of day.

  • Lola Channing

the hat and poncho are missing. I’m disappointed.

  • Patrick Cleary

That hair is horrifying on her. Greasy-looking, limp, and sad.

  • kittenwithaquip

So wait…the dress was designed to look like your bra is showing? That’s odd.

Side note:I have scoliosis, so sweaters or shrugs I wear over sun dresses (to hide my chubby arms) always slip off one shoulder, causing my bra strap to show. I match my bra to my dress and make it look like a misguided fashion choice; now I’m going to tell myself that I started a trend.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

The model is showing her bra too, but it really looks cheap and akward!

  • MilaXX

It needs a better belt. Hair should be up in a pony. Wearing it down like this makes it look as if she is having a bra strap problem when really it’s the most interesting detail about the dress. Fab shoes.

  • beebee10

Her personal style trends this way, and I think this is successful. I quibble with the belt, but her hair and make up are perfect for her style. And I like that she has fun with shoes and I think these work, plus they dress the look up.

  • Monabel

    Morticia’s summer nightie.

  • korilian

Why the hell do lady stars have trouble getting parts once they reach a certain age? It’s not like they actually, you know, age.

    • conniemd

Because audiences want to watch movies with Bond girls. Lady stars get reduced to playing mothers.

  • filmcricket

Dear God. Sandy, you look sad. Is everything okay? Take off that dress & send it to Kate Moss, book a hot oil treatment, and relax. Keep the shoes. Gwen did you a solid on those.

  • Michelle Wilson

I think she looks fine and I appreciate that she’s supporting women designers head to toe. Just wish maybe she’d support better ones.

  • barbarienne

I feel as if her hair is trying to cover up the radical misaligning of all the straps in the front. I’m not opposed to visible bra straps, but they should at least make a pretense toward trying to work with the dress.

I am also not fond of the hair, as it is both cocker spaniel and ombre. I have no sympathy for wealthy movie stars who let their dye jobs grow out like that. Perhaps it’s supposed to look artfully tousled or something, but to me it just looks a little fried at the ends and as if she let it air-dry without brushing it. At least, that’s what would make my hair look like this. I actually love the hair if I imagine it smoother and a consistent color.

All that said, she is definitely adding up to more than the sum of the parts, probably because the core of the look–HER–is a very strong base to start with. The dress is pretty good, certainly suits her figure, and I can even live with the mimimally mullet hem. Love the shoes. Love the makeup.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

A broom and a pointed hat, and she’s ready for halloween…

  • alyce1213

She looks beautiful, I like the dress and especially the shoes, but that hair!
She needs a few inches off and a better blowout.
What is it with maturing ladystars and their too-long, damaged, scraggly-ends hair? They just won’t let go.

    • Spicytomato1

I saw another recent photo and her hair was perfectly straight and silky. So I gotta believe this style is completely deliberate. I’ve seen worse.

    • understateddiva

I agree – she would look amazing with short hair! It would give just a little bit of edge to her classic good looks.

  • ceceliadid

That’s Diane Kruger’s dress, I think – she’d have the disciplined blonde waves and posture that could make it look less sloppy.

  • mhleta

I know it’s supposed to be part of the dress, but the peekaboo bra showing in the back is is a big buzz kill. She looks great from the front. Fit, sexy and kinda badass.

  • Love it. The whole thing. She’s fierce. I don’t get why others are reading it as casual. Wish she’d push her hair back but really am lovin’ the whole look.

  • Cameron Turner

    Those shoes are amazing!

  • crash1212

Surprise back! I love this look – all of it. The textured/tousled hair is excellent. The shoes are fierce and make the length of the dress – which can be problematical – work rather well. Good makeup as well.

  • It suits her, and she hasn’t been out much lately, so maybe she’s forgotten how the game is played?

  • E. D.

If that skirt was shorter and a more formal fabric, this would work.

  • Qitkat

Droopy dress, bad hair, excruciating shoes. I can’t with the bra-like back. Tacky.
    Her face looks beautiful though.

  • LaSylphide

Let’s all chip in and buy poor Sandy a comb. And a new dress.

  • PrunellaV

I like this better than most times we’ve seen her lately, where she’s polished to within an inch of her life.

  • MandyM

Those shoes are super cool but the dress looks cheap. The back is just painful.

  • JauntyJohn

    “Practical Magic 2”

  • Anniebet

I dunno… the dress top is just a few steps past clever on to overwrought and finicky. Sandra does have the back for it, though. Shoes are super nice. Her hair is ratty looking. Ms. Bullock is otherwise pretty adorable, as usual.

  • quiltrx

Bedtime in the front, party in the back. 🙂
(seriously, I was ready to say she dyed a nightgown from Hope Floats until I saw the back. what an odd dress.)

  • msdamselfly

That hair! The whole look is 80’s horror

  • bertkeeter

Love it! She’s paid her dues…time to relax n look cool!

  • mrspotts66

    she looks amazing.
    those shoes? ow.

  • demidaemon

Length: Oh so wrong. Dress: Kind of lame. Shoes: Kind of cool. Head: Same old Sandra. Result: Enh.

  • bellafigura1

I love that she’s wearing Spice Girls and No Doubt!

  • What an odd dress. It looks frumpy and loose from the front and tight from the bag. Sandra doesn’t have an ounce of fat on her back/waist. The shoes distract from the dress. They’d look better with a short dress.

I think her hair could use a brush and maybe a new style. But….

    She looks super pretty.

  • looks like she just came in from a run and threw on an old nightgown with the back ripped out. still wearing her custom running bra/harness. i have no excuse for the shoes.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

She’s looking better to me, lately. Looks like she’s finally over that horrible marriage mess she was in. She’s got her glow back.

    P.S. The shoes are aMAZing.

  • dschubba

I liked this until I scrolled down far enough to see beyond her knees.

  • jw_ny

I really kind of dig the entire look…head to toe. But oh…that poor pinky toe…

  • sekushinonyanko

Business in the front, party in the back.

  • Cathy S

I really liked it until she turned around. The back is terrible.

  • MrsBug

I love everything except the hair. She needs some bright jewelry though.

  • Betsy

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the showing of all of this under-wear-age? Bra straps, hold-the-dress-closed straps, front, back and sides? It is NOT attractive, people. I don’t care WHO told you it was OK. It really isn’t.

  • Danielle L

Oh Sandy. Your hair has a sad.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She always looks sad. In every picture. Even when smiling.
