Rita Ora in Natalia Kaut

Posted on June 21, 2013

The dress is okay and that hair is not; let’s get that out of the way now.

Rita Ora attends the launch of Sony Xperia Access in London in a Natalia Kaut dress with Arabesque detail paired with Michael Kors ankle-strap sandals.

What struck us her was the face, and just how pretty she looks with (relatively) toned-down makeup. In fact, we’d go so far as to say her face looks adorable here, and that’s not a word we think we’ve ever used to describe her. She might want to tone down the Nicki/Ri aesthetic and go for something a little quirkier in her style. It might suit her better. Time to ditch the blonde, hon. You’re ripe for a makeover.

The dress is … fine. She’s dressing for attention and that fits the bill. The shoes are an afterthought. Maybe she’s getting tired of this look herself.

But at least her roots aren’t 6 inches long. And I like the style for her.

    • charlotte

The dress looks like a hooker’s umbrella, but I agree that her face looks much better like this.

      • maggiemaybe

“The dress looks like a hooker’s umbrella…” That is so very perfect I think you win comment of the day!

    • tignor

the underarm tattoo makes her look like she hasn’t shaved the pitts

      • ToniMacAttack

Yeah, that is a seriously strange placement…

    • Annarosa

“the dress is okay”? guys? are you all right? is there anything I can do for you, sweetiepies?
that dress looks like a plastic chinese umbrella.
      love the make up.
      wrong shoes.
      and that’s it.

      • Sagecreek

Agreed. And it also includes the notorious “design pointing out the vagina”, which the unks usually catch.

        • marlie

And I’m pretty sure most of the sheer parts are un-lined. EW.

      • Lanus

Yes, I think we need to guide them to the fainting couch and fetch some nice cold drinks. Clearly the Uncles are Unwell.

    • Heather

I’m wondering if she could rock a 50s pinup look?

      • MoHub

Maybe she could commission a design from Kenley Collins.

      • alyce1213

Hmmm, very interesting thought. She has the right look and attitude, but I suspect that with her taste level she’d way overdo it and it would become annoying.

    • teensmom99

I think the dress would be much better if it were all lifted up–the top would fit better and the length would be more flattering.

    • Annarosa

      ehm, no, sorry, disagree.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I cannot imagine that garment being anything other than really uncomfortable.

      • Lori

It looks like a person would be sweating buckets 5 minutes after putting it on.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Even with all the ventilation through the illusion netting.

          • MoHub

            Actually, illusion netting doesn’t breathe.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Now I REALLY have a sad for her.

        • alyce1213

She could be hosed down without ruining the dress.

        • KateShouldBeWorking

I’m just imagining the sound it’ll make when she finally peels it away from her skin.

          • marlie

Like getting up from Grandma’s plastic covered-couch in her un-air-conditioned home, in the middle of August.

      • Jaeda Laurez

It’s like the dress equivalent of jelly shoes.

    • majorbedhead

Oh, look. Another attention hungry singer/actress in another dress full of cutouts. *yawn*

    • alyce1213

Bordello shower curtain. No to everything here.

      • MoHub

        Very Storyville indeed.

    • jhedman

In addition to all of the other valid criticism, that hem length makes my eye twitch.

      • ampg

Yes, three inches off the bottom would at least bring the proportions into line.

    • Sagecreek

With respect, Unks, that dress is very, very NOT okay.

    • veleri

I’d love to see her brunette.
btw: nope the dress. nope the shoes (not with that dress). just nope.

      • gabbilevy

I suspect with darker hair (and prettier styling), the dress could work. Maybe not WERQ, but it had potential. The shoes, however, will never not be terrible.

        • veleri

does she even have a stylist? I believe she just grabbed something out of her closet and that’s it.

          • Annarosa

            the most awful closet ever

          • marlie

She had THIS just hanging in the back of her closet?! That’s a frightening thought.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

Yeah, we don’t need another tacky popstar!!! Show them how is doing Rita!

    • carnush

Lovely makeup. That’s all I have.

    • Jessica Freeman

Done done done with the cut outs. It’s so very boring now.

    • hyperionic

Really? I think her hair looks fine and that dress is ugly and vulgar.

      • Jessica Freeman

At least she doesn’t have her roots showing, so points for that.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

          You don’t see roots?

          • Jessica Freeman

Not dark black ones like most of Holly wood does.

    • Poeta Paz

Why so many stars go for that yellow fake color of hair? Terrible!

    • DTLAFamilies

How does this girl manage to look mixed race? Is it the makeup? The dye job? I assume it’s a deliberate choice to give her cred ala Teena Marie.

      • RebeccaKW

Rita Ora is Albanian, so she’s very eastern European in look.

    • formerlyAnon

I agree she’s looking good, especially considering the hair and close up of the dress. Why is it I think this dress is cute on her and I though Kylie Minogue looked depressingly vulgar yesterday in what was arguably a much less tacky frock?

Clearly, I am not yet even a lowly journey(wo)man of fashion criticism.

    • MilaXX

She often picks potentially cute dresses but then loses the plot with styling.

    • Glam Dixie

The shade of blonde she uses is really unflattering to her skin tone.

    • fringebenefit

The shoes are too heavy for the intricacy of the dress, and she would definitely look better as a brunette, whoever she is.

    • barbarienne

It’s bad enough we can see her ladybits, but did the dress really have to have maxi-pad-packaging floral patterns? SUBTLE, NO?

    • Erin Hines

I don’t know about anybody else, but I am sick of sheer. Sick of it. They don’t even try anymore. “we’ll slap a see-thru sheet on her, bedazzle her bits, (not too much, cause that’s what we’re selling) and send her off! Fashion!”

    • MannahattaMamma

who IS this woman & why do we have to keep looking at her? is that really a patent-leather dress? it’s like someone’s idea of what to do with leftover little-girl shoes

    • Nimith

Well bugger me! I didn’t know that she was capable of smiling!

    • melanie0866

The hem length + ankle strap = stumpifying

    • Sadie-Ann

I can see that a little. In the face and eyebrow areas.

    • MoHub

      Victorian flocked wallpaper.

    • Rand Ortega

      Circus Stripper.

    • JeWawa

      Porn star

    • CT14

I find myself obsessing on her hair.

The top third is not a bad blond–there’s a little metallic glint to it like my daughter’s has. The bottom half? Dead dry straw. The dark eyebrows are not helping, and I like a strong brow.

I’d like it darker, but chopping it short and clearing out the dead weight would do so much.

    • CT14

I see Jessica Alba, if I squint, but only in the second shot.

    • marlie

The first thing I noticed was that her nails clash with her dress. And let’s not speak of the dress, since she’s clearly going for “LOOK AT MEEEE!!”

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

none of it’s ok with me, okay maybe the shoes are all right. that dress looks like it’s made of plastic and it makes me sweat just to look at it. she may be “ripe” for a makeover in more way than one. see what i did there?

    • ailujailuj

Hmm… Never seen pit hair tat before.

    • GTrain

      I love the shoes.

    • ItsDicey

C’mon girl. Make it interesting, not just ticky-tacky.

    • demidaemon

The dress length is just bad. It makes her look stumpy. It also feels like it is one cut-out away from being a set of pasties. The idea and pattern is kind of cool; the end result is not.

    • amanda lynn

her tattoo looks like armpit hair.
