This is little more than the overwrought valance from a set of curtains purchased at Montgomery Ward in 1990.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Yes – this is that slapstick moment when the naked person sneaks into a hotel room and ends up wrapped in the curtains.

        • KateShouldBeWorking

          Awww, it’s a meet-cute!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Are we going to see Bradley Cooper in this, in Hangover 7?

      • Amanda Herriott Welliver

Actually, I think those were JC Penney circa 1988. There was a matching bedspread.

        • majorbedhead

I was going to go with KMart. Even the dotted Swiss underneath looks very Blue Light Special. Horrible.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I have no doubt that the entire room was decked in precisely the same thing. Even including one of those old school vanity table cosys. lol

          • Snailstsichr

My Grandmother had that room. Don’t forget the fake milk glass “Gone with the Wind” lamps on the vanity table tops. When I was a kid, they looked like two giant balls of nubby chenille. I was always shocked when I touched them and discovered they were glass.

        • drdarke

I think that’s the year my wife stopped buying bedspreads from J.C. Penny’s, and just dragged out the Made-From-Old-Biker-Jeans one her Mom had made for us, @amandaherriottwelliver:disqus – which we’re still using decades later, incidentally!

      • TheAmericaness

I was thinking more late 80’s bridesmaid – maybe if Blanche Devereaux ever got married on Golden Girls?

      • maggiemaybe

My aunt had those curtains in her back bedroom, but I’m pretty sure the year was 1978. I wonder if it smells like cigarettes too…

      • Little_Olive

To be fair, that is Unkle Karl’s and not so much her fault.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh I in no way meant to impune RB. I confined my commentary entirely to that attrocious garment.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I have a totally irrational passion for this girl but I still can’t with this outfit. Plus her poor toes look so squashed and sore!

      • Rhonda Shore

her piggies do look sad…but at least they’re not sporting a Pinterest Pedi…

      • MoHub

Her toes seem to have joints that mine don’t have.

        • MilaXX

Those are joints created by wearing shoes too high & too small

          • MoHub

Well, of course! It’s just that I’ve never seen my own toes bend that way.

            • MilaXX

Because you have enough sense to buy shoes in the right size unlike so many of the lady celebs who wear whatever ill fitting shoe the stylist gives them

            • MoHub

True. And I also wear flats, so no sliding forward.

        • DuBey2

I actually think her feet look pretty. Like the minimalism on the toenails. Love the shoes and I was thrilled they weren’t 2 inches too big which is what I see on so many RC’s.

      • marlie

I like *her* a lot, but this dress should have been tossed into the scrap fabric bin.

      • drdarke

OTOH, she looked better than Grumpy Vulcan Model in this dress, @foodycatalicia:disqus !

      • drdarke

I cannot say how much I loathe this ensemble on her – it’s not flirty, it’s not elegant, it’s not cute, it’s not…anything but a mistake.

Yeah, I know that’s not very eloquent – but this is just…bad.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Aw honey I know. It gets worse every time I look at it. I just want better things for her!

          • drdarke

Clearly, so do I, @foodycatalicia:disqus – also, I need more coffee before I post, because otherwise I turn into Grumpy Cat (I also went on a rant today about George RR Martin wanting everything to go to Hell on one the AV Club’s GAME OF THRONES articles!).

Rachel Bilson is adorable, and anything good about this is her, not it….

    • Guest

Did Chanel hire Patricia of PR?

    • http://coyoterose.blogspot.com/ Coyote Rose

I normally love Rachel Bilson’s style but she looks like she tried to make a dress out of curtains and the sewing machine did not agree with her. She could have picked a better colored shoe too.

      • 3boysful

Let’s figure the blame goes on her stylist. Who should be fired.

    • atelier482 .

Awkward hair, awkward pose, awkward length, awkward toes.

And I think the dress would suit someone younger better (Elle Fanning comes to mind).

    • eowyn_of_rohan

That is an aggressively unattractive dress. Like someone put an entire Laura Ashley catalog through a lawnmower.

      • marlie

You’re spot on. Aside from the dress looking like old curtains, they’re old curtains in the most BLAH colors imaginable.

        • eowyn_of_rohan

To say nothing of the mullet hem. Business in front, pooping tulle in the back.

          • marlie

I forgot about the mullet hem. Shocking that that’s the least offensive part of this disaster of a dress.

          • MilaXX

high low dresses have trickled down to the masses this year so that part is pretty much on trend.

    • Anniebet

I may have to hand in my BK badge, ’cause I actually like the dress – it must be the watercolor/waterfall effect that grabs me. She’s cute, but the right foot toes are tortured. The other foot doesn’t seem to have the same problem.

    • Caitlin O’Brien

I’m gonna be the only one that doesn’t hate this. Love the shoes. Makeup is pretty. Dress is interesting enough in the soft colors. The hair is not ok, though.

      • MilaXX

I like the colors & the print, just hate the layers & frou frou

        • marlie

The colors and the print are part of what makes me hate it so much.

    • AlisonS

When I saw this post on Twitter I said aloud “Rachal Bilson is still relavant enough for Chanel” and then I saw it. Poor thing. Uncle Karl is probably sniggering as she wears it.

Cute shoes though. Don’t know what it is about that cut of shoe, but I just love it.

      • marlie

She has a pretty successful show on the CW network. I’ve never watched a minute of it, but it just got renewed, so I suppose other people like it.

    • Jessica Freeman

      What has happened to Chanel??

      Karl-Fucking-Lagerfeld. That’s what.

      • Rhonda Shore

I thought they might have hired Patricia for textile design…

        • DuBey2

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Honey, no.

    • marlie

I like her hair, makeup, and shoes, but the dress looks like kitchen curtains. On top of that, the strings hanging from the unfinished hem makes this look cheap. This is really disappointing, Chanel.

    • Dan_In_NYC

I find myself really wanting to like this – yet failing at every turn.

    • MilaXX

If this was a solid instead of the layers I would like this. It’s hot and I’m all for wearing as little as possible. I am a fan of the long & flowy.

    • http://www.champagnerising.com/ heather adair

I’ll leave comments about dress to the quippier among us and just say: I Wish She’d Stop Lining the Waterline. That’s all. It’s “CW-makeup.” And she’s much, much, much too pretty to hide the peepers behind DIY/YouTube Makeup.

AND, I’ll add, she uses “Amy Nadine” for most of her makeup, so I know she’s not actually DIY’ing…….bummer…….

    • TSkot

      No. Not ever. On anyone.

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

      Your great-aunt’s curtains?

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Wow. That is the stupidest dress I have seen in a long, long time. Really. Super stupid. I can’t believe someone got away with sending that down a runway. And got someone to wear it! She’s a big stick of rainbow cotton candy!

    • Lori

Knowing that this horrible dress went out into the world under the Chanel name is painful. Someone needs to be fired.

    • teensmom99

OMG, she got her hands on the baby dolls I wore to my 1st sleepover!

    • tereliz

      Dear Karl,

If Rachel EFFING Bilson looks nearly as shitty as the model does in this dress, maybe it’s a bad design.

      • DuBey2

I don’t know WHAT’S up with him, but I have REALLY disliked almost all the Chanel looks for 2013. But this mess is the worst.

    • Garcia Loca

      Shower curtains.

    • Cameron Turner

Those shoes are incredible… don’t know about the dress though..

    • Tracy_Flick

Hollie Hobbie as fashion victim. Unflattering, ugly, and juvenile.

    • demidaemon

This is a hideous version of a three year old’s sundress.

    • Richard

Once I saw the outfit, I groaned loudly. That’s all I have to really say about it.

    • pattycap11

      i don’t get it

    • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

      Beautiful from the neck up.

    • prettybigkitty

It’s like a shower curtain and a loofa had a dress baby.

    • jmorino08

I’m sorry. I only just found out about this event when I was at my Grandma’s retirement village, so I had to whip something up real quick from the window dressings. You don’t think anyone will notice, do you>

    • Imasewsure

Love her makeup and like the hair, love the shoes…the rest is gawd awful… Monkey Wards as mentioned below…

    • quiltrx

YIKES. Looks like someone repurposed my bedroom curtains from the mid-80s and my dorm comforter fabric from the early 90s.

    • MandyM

Why couldn’t this be an In or Out? I guess because no one in their right mind would call this In. Her hair looks like puppy dog ears, she’s wearing a shower curtain and her poor poor toes! The look on her face says, “My mom dressed me like this and I know a look a fool but whaddya gonna do?”

    • Qitkat

When cupcakes want to be dresses…or vice versa.

    • conniemd

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was Hilary Swank. Like Hilary, this girl (whoever she is) has the wrong face to be wearing super feminine dresses. I’d put this more in the “This is not your dress category” because it could look cute on a tween or a Taylor Swift.

I’m not crazy about mullet dresses, but there’s something appealing about the pastel and layers and tulle. But only certain females could wear it.

    • Erica_Vuitton

      … the shoes are nice.

    • lalahartma

    • ThaliaMenninger

Well, it’s nice that the hideousity of the dress makes the shoes look good.

    • lilazander

Gosh, I would kill to ave ‘feetie’ like her….ah…

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties
