She looks lovely.
Lovely colour, like the lace even though it looks kind of not fitted well across the bust. the shoes have to go.
Would have been a perfect look if the waistline was raised just a little bit higher – but she looks great! The color really complements her beautiful skintone.
Oh yes, I suspect you’re right. As is, it’s not her best effort.
I’m actually ok with the waistline, I think her bustline needs to be hoisted a little bit.
A little bit of both would have done the trick! Also, it seems like she took off the straps from a regular bra and called it strapless–though I haven’t seen what this dress looks like from the back–at any rate, it probably didn’t give her the support she needed nor flatter the bustline of the design.
That color is great on her, but man, I have had it UP TO HERE with lace dresses.
My thoughts exactly. Love the cut and color of the dress, but the fabric. Yuck.
Pure Mother of the Bride.
Dreadful shoes but Oh! The colour sings on her! And YES to dresses with a waistline even on bigger women.
yeah, the shoes are pretty awful.
Yes, they look really cheap and don’t appear to fit either.
I love the color on her. I do like the neckline. But the dress isn’t all that flattering. And the shoes are terrible.
Butt-ugly shoes, and if it had a little more fabric at the shoulders she could wear a better bra, but really she looks gorgeous. I love the color and the little drape at the waist. Her hair and makeup are absolutely perfect.
Agree about the sleeves. If they actually came up over her shoulders, she could wear a bra with straps and get better support. Everything else but the shoes is perfection.
That is a beautiful head. The dress is nice, too.
It’s a little “mother of the bride,” but the color is gorgeous on her, and the fit is perfection. And her hair and makeup are flawless. I hate the shoes, though.
That color is singing her praises!
She needs a better bra, face powder and less horrid shoes.
The neckline, the lenght and the color look amazing on her. The hairstyle is great.
Re: the bra. She’s going strapless, isn’t she?
I think so. There are btter strapless bras.
Ah, got it. It’s got to be hard to hold up the girls with a strapless in the larger cup sizes.
There are amazing designs that appear to be designed by civil Ingeneers. This bra, on the other hand, looks as if it were a normal bra and she simply removed the straps.
yes because there is no room for straps
It’s beautiful, but in a mother of the bride way. Not my favorite.
EXACTLY what I was just thinking. It’s matronly and ages her.
Octavia — Hold on to Tadashi Shoji and never let him go. He has never steered you wrong….. you look lovely!
Not crazy about the shoe, but I love the dress on her.
I love the color and the lace but something about the fit is a little off…
“Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji”
And that is a good thing.
I think the color looks great on her but I’m not sold on the dress design; I think it makes her look kind of dumpy.
I like the color- that’s about it.
As a significantly bosomed woman, I too understand the difficulty of strapless bras. But you gotta find one that has your girls SITTING if you are going to do something off the shoulder. Maybe they got the back size wrong or something and it slid down. But because her boobs and her waist are meeting each other, she looks boxy. Then you add the awful shoes, and this is not what she should be doing with her life. And I hate to say that because I love her so.
ETA- I don’t know what makeup they’re using on her (it has that Ebony Fashion Fair look), but a few blotting papers would go a long way.
LOVE this colour on her. She looks gorgeous.
The blousing above the waistline isn’t doing her any favors, but the color is terrific and the shape is great for her. Thinking different styling would help take this away from the MOB direction it’s veering now.
Girl always knows how to dress herself (or employ someone who does). Normally I’d hate lace, especially blue, but it’s a lovely saturated colour. The fit by that band is slightly off though.
Love the color! Tadashi Shoji’s dresses look great on so many different body types- it’s that classical femininity.
Radiant and lovely in all ways.
Love it. Beautiful neckline.
Although I love the color and the neckline, this looks dowdy on her, especially that drape at the waist.
I was just wondering how she’d look in that black lace number Kathy Griffin is wearing, previously…
The waist drape is killing it for me. It looks awkward and just wrong.
Too mother of the bride.
Not my favorite look for her…too….slouchy? Or something. I really do HATE those shoes with a passion. I cannot stand it when all toes are entirely exposed…probably my own special phobia!
LOVE the dress, her makeup, everything…except the shoes.
Love the color, hate the style.
The color on her is gorgeous, and basically I like the dress, but I’m not convinced about the neckline. For some reason it’s making her look hunched, which she isn’t. Like the hair, too (can we hope we’ve seen the last of the bangs?).
Not her usual 10, but close enough.
I’m so glad she has learned to work that pretty SMILE on the RC!
The color is terrific on her, but I wish it wasn’t lace. That and the shoes take it into grandmother-of-the-bride town.
Great color on her, love her!!!
I am probably in the minority, but this is not my favorite shade of blue. I don’t think she likes it, either – something in her face is giving it away. (The less spoken about the shoes the better.)
Love her but those are some Payless shoes.
The color of this dress is lovely! However the neckline is too big.
Speaking a woman with a bust to match Octavia’s: would someone please tell me why designers and manufacturers of larger sized clothing think our heads, necks and shoulders are the size of a football player’s with padding? Yes, there are some that are large, but OMG, if I try on a top that has a square neck, boat-neck, even a scoop neck at times it is so wide you can’t help but to see my bra. And unfortunately it isn’t one of those cute ones from Victoria’s Secret – we are talking industrial strength clips, straps and barely stretchable elastic here! I suspect Octavia has the same issue.
I completely disagree about the color. Not working for me.
Lace now gives me abdominal cramps.
From the ankles up — YES!
I can’t with the lace dresses. But that color and neckline are gorgeous on her.
She looks lovely. And I think she knows it.
My quibble is the scruffy bits of thread that are where the lace was cut for the neckline and sleeve edges; those loose threads feel like all the buckmoth caterpillars that can fall out of a live oak onto a nice southern girl.
Only the fabulous color saves this from being Mother of the Bride in a tragic way.
LOVE HER. She looks adorable!
Am I the only one who notices that she doesn’t do open-mouth smiling anymore?
I mean, I know why, but I’ve just been noticing in photos lately…
I want to force every designer in the world to attend a mandatory class taught by Tadashi Shoji about to dress plump women. Beatings will be delivered until they LEARN.
Mother of the bride.
I’m getting more bridesmaid than mother-of-the-bride. Something about the (admittedly pretty) color with the fabric. I’d like to see this in a different color with a better belt or sash than that sad ribbon thing.
Tadashi is her man when it comes to dressing her at her optimum. It also looks like she is his mise of sorts. Whatever, whatever – they are a great match.
Took a while to figure it out, but I placed where I have seen that silhouette.
After an evening out, I unzip my dress, undo my bra, and feel the relief. And see that look.
If only the neckline were narrower. It might have even made a strapped bra possible, which is much easier to wear flatteringly.
why is she so averse to smiling with her pearly whites showing? Any outfit would go a long way with a great smile.
stylewise, this is a lovely look for her. too bad her smile always seems like she’d rather be somewhere else.
Too mother of the bride looking – a dated one at that! Why doesn’t she show her teeth when she smiles?
Either the neckline or her posture (or something!) is making her look slouchy. It’s distracting. I’m totally ignoring those shoes…
She looks like one of my Church mamas
Lovely color on her and her makeup looks better than it has in some time. Is she using someone new? Let’s not talk about the shoes, though.
Oh so mother of the bride. Beautiful color, though.
Yes to color, yes to waistline, but NO to lace dress. Looks like grandma is going to church. NO.
Does anyone know what size she is, roughly? I’d like to be able to flatter my fuller figure as nicely…
Lovely. I’d like to see it with a bit more jewelry, tho. Longer earring or lose the earrings and do a delicate necklace.
I am not a big fan of lace, especially colored lace, but she looks very pretty here. Color, silhouette, shoes are all good on her.
Oh man, I want that dress for me.
She is NOT messing around with what works! NO SIR!
That dress needs some tailoring. Needs a better fit, but that is a lovely neckline on her. Nice hair too.
