Octavia Spencer at Celebrate Sundance Institute Benefit

Posted on June 07, 2013

Okay, we need something chic and simple to wash our eyes after all the crappy boyclothes we’ve been looking at. Miss Octavia gets it done:

Octavia Spencer attends the 3rd Annual Celebrate Sundance Institute Los Angeles Benefit in West Hollywood, California.

Love. It’s a fab little outfit, perfectly put together; once again demonstrating that she, or the person who’s dressing her, knows about fit and proportion.

On the other hand, whoever did her makeup does not seem to know what they’re doing. Her eyes are underplayed and her face looks ashy and oddly contoured.

I don’t like her makeup or her hair, but that outfit? It’s gorgeous on her. She is my hero.

    • MemHey

Agreed. New favorite outfit for her. Love.

    • Mary229

She looks so polished and pretty and…put together here.

  • iheartbuffy

very bad choice of lipstick and I think her hair might have looked better up… it’s just a theory. Not stoked on the texture of the pants either. With TLo on everything else, especially the eye commentary

  • Diego!

She looks very nice, a little bit tired tough, but this is a simple and chic look.

  • SewingSiren

Too much stuff in the bag. Otherwise fine.

    • Lois Cameron

Haha, I love that (for once) someone seems to be actually using the bag they’re carrying on the red carpet!

    • Too much? What is the point of bags, then, if you cannot fill them? Just carry around a square of stiff fabric as an accessory.

      • SewingSiren

The point of small bags is to put a small amount in them. The point of flat bags is to carry flat things. The point of large bags is to carry many things. Over filling makes them look awkward , carrying an obviously empty bag is even worse though I agree with that.

  • majorbedhead

She looks exhausted. I love that top. It’s super cute.

  • thecitysleeps

It’s a cute little outfit. I like the idea of the trousers but the satiny shine is a bit annoying and uncomfortable. Love the necklace.

    • iheartbuffy

With you on the pants – bad material, but good fit

  • Love the heart necklace on her, and I almost never like heart necklaces. Great point about the eye makeup– she has gorgeous eyes and they could have been played up more. As for the ashiness, I will just say I feel her pain.

    • Gwyndall

I thought it was a shark’s tooth… wonder which one it is!?

      • I had a fleeting thought that it actually may not be a heart– you might be right (although it’s a little small for a shark? Baby shark? :)).

        • Domo_Konnichiwa

Either way, it’ll eat your heart out 🙂

    • MilaXX

I feel the same way. I dislike heart, butterflies & flower jewelry most times, but this necklace paired with that fab ring needs to be in my closet!

  • SophiaPehawkins

Has she also lost a significant amount of weight? She looks a lot thinner, and I don’t think her clothing is completely responsible.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I believe she’s on The Sensa program, paid or not I’m not sure, but she’s lost 20 pounds on it.

      • MilaXX

I believe she sadi on The View (yes I watch ) that it was 20 or so.

  • Macunaima

Lovely! I hate the clutch, but for Ms Octavia I’m going to overlook it.

  • Heather

Agree about the makeup – I’d especially like to see a more dramatic lip since her outfit is classy but neutral.

That’s actually a very cute date night outfit — let’s all take note!

  • ccinnc

Blown away by how fabulous her body looks in this outfit, which I wouldn’t have thought would flatter.

  • Candigirl1968

Who makes that adorable top? Must have now!

  • unbornfawn

Great outfit. Fit and proportion are your friends. Too bad the make-up and hair are a bit dull.

  • marlie

Other than the seriously underdone makeup, she looks fab, as usual.

  • TheAmericaness

The outfit is great – however, she has been looking … sad? … or tired? .. in the latest photos of her. Like at the Cannes Film Festival she looked worn out as well. I hope she gets a good vacay if thats what she needs. 🙂

    • OrigamiRose

Yes, going back as far as awards season, she seemed a bit… down on the red carpets.

    • SpillinTea

I dont think she ever really smiles on the red carpet. Shes one of those “I dont like my smile” people I guess.

  • frannyprof

I love this look on her. I want it for myself!

  • Denise Alden

She looks fantastic. Shame about the makeup.

  • blairdawn

    She looks gorgeous and chic.

  • formerlyAnon

Brilliant top. Too bad the pants aren’t in a fabric that would have creased less, but sometimes there’s only so much you can do.

  • LaSylphide

Who would have thought that tight pants, zippered close to the ankle, could look great on somebody who’s not a size 2 with legs up to her armpits? Beautiful, as usual. I actually like her hair without the bangs hiding her face.

  • filmcricket

Love that she got those horrible bangs out of her face. She looks so much better with a bare forehead. Cute blouse, not sure how I feel about the pants.

  • desi_girl

    Love her!

She looks so much skinnier in pants than she does in gowns. That outfit’s fab!

  • SugarSnap108

Yep. Adorable outfit, oddly done makeup — like they were going for the just-woke-up face.

  • FashionShowAtLunch

    Loving the cocktail ring.

  • j_anson

It honestly looks to me like she’s not wearing much in the way of makeup – maybe some foundation and a little clear lip-gloss.

    • MilaXX

I see lashes, foundation, neutral shadow & highlighter, blush, bronzer and gloss. Most celebs don’t step out without a face full of product because the camera would wash them out. Even POC. The problem is foundations for POC contain SPF “fight” with the flash of a camera, creating a sort of ashen appearance. Same deal with the set powder when you see those celebs with giant white patches under their eyes and on their nose. Often in video and in person it doesn’t show, but the camera flash, particularly the HD will.

  • KayEmWhy

She looks relaxed in this and seems to like it. The weight loss has given her confidence.

  • I need to steal her stylist, seriously.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

Cute. But get some rest Octavia, you deserve it.

  • She’s working those pants. Love. Definitely needs some bright lipstick, though.

  • MilaXX

I WANT HER RING!!! The face could have used a bit of color on the lip and someone used the wrong products on her skin. I should not be able to see that her highlight is not blended into her brows and I cant tell if that bronzer or what, but it’s doing weirdness to her.

  • bd73

love the look. not seeing any ashyness though.

  • i especially like the purse.

  • no_sew

    bingo. agree wholeheartedly with Tlo

  • To borrow from Rookie: Damn, girl, ya look good.

  • Mary229

Aww, this is such a great shot of her. What a beautiful outfit.

  • Patricia Gillett

This outfit looks great on her. Love it. Now all she needs is the name of Queen Latifah’s make-up person and everything will be perfect.

  • quiltrx

There seems to be a LOT of odd contouring going on on the RC’s lately. Perhaps the RPDR gals have gotten hold of the ladystars?
It’s a very cute outfit and she seems comfortable and relaxed in it. Great look fashion-wise.

  • ItsDicey

Love the clothes, but the makeup and hair? No bueno.

  • altissima

I have no problem with her hair or makeup. Simple, feminine elegance from head to toe.

  • minnye

Not crazy about satin pants with zippered ankles, but the cut is perfect on her & with that fab blouse.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Perception is a funny thing. I’m loving the natural radiance of her skin in that downplayed makeup. I’m a white girl, but I’m a metro Detroit white girl and I don’t see ashyness at all.

  • lilyvonschtupp

Love her hair and blouse but the pants are wrinkly and sloppy looking. She’s lost weight, and could afford a sleakier pair.
