Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior

Posted on June 06, 2013

Well. That’s kind of a disappointment. We expect Miss Nicole to bring the chic to these little hoedowns, but this is just a little too underplayed for us.

Nicole Kidman attends the 2013 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee in a Christian Dior dress and shoes paired with Fred Leighton jewelry.

Christian Dior Fall 2013 Shoes

It’s like she’s just stopping by on the way home from the “100 Most Powerful Women in Hollywood” luncheon. We realize there’s a rather broad dress code for the CMT Awards, but this strikes us as too daytime, if not too casual.

Those shoes look really cool when someone’s foot isn’t in them.

meh. Utterly forgettable dress. The shoes not only look painful, but slightly silly. Something tells me that leaving no support at the point where all your body weight wants to go is not going to feel good in no time.

  • Sobaika

Amazed at her ability to walk in those shoes. Maintaining balance must be crazy.

  • aeb1986

That looks like what I wear to work almost everyday. Also, those shoes are getting on my nerves. They’re trying too hard or something

    • Lindsey Irvin

Just had this same exact thought – this is almost exactly what I’m wearing at work right now. Can I go to award shows now?

  • Patricia Gillett

Those shoes look like the Jetsons’ living room furniture. Her hair people are going to hand their heads in shame when they see these pictures. And the dress is totally “lunch and shopping with girlfriends on Saturday,” not RC.

    Man, I am mean today!

    • Little_Olive

Maybe it’s not the hair people’s fault – they can’t tell when she is displeased with the way it’s going.

    • LambeeBaby

YES! I immediately thought Jetson’s – more Jane than Judy.

  • Diego!

Meh… this looks like a market store dress and her hair is awful. I only liked her make up.
Botox seems to be diminishing, doesn’t it? Keep it like this Nicole!!!

    • gabbilevy

Dunno, I looked at these pictures and thought, Oh dear, Nicole’s taken a step back. She’d been looking so… flexible… lately.

  • BrooklynBomber

Those shoes look really cool when someone’s foot isn’t in them.

Ha! Well said. With someone’s foot in them they just look fairly crippling.

    • TonyGo

Does anyone else think the straps make it look like she has the shoes on the wrong feet?

  • Cathy S

Her earrings are nice. Let’s look at those, shall we?

    • JP

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

  • Sheneve Butler

Boo. I expected more from her especially after how great she looked during Cannes. I agree about the shoes.

  • Nicole Sauvage

The fact that the dress is simple and flattering and I’d gladly wear it any day of the week does not make it a good choice for this event. Kind of like how the fact that the shoes are an engineering marvel does not mean they should go on a person’s feet.

I’ve also got a bottle of Garnier Miracle Dry Oil (or whatever it’s called) on my dresser that I’d be happy to send to Ms. Kidman and her thirsty-looking hair.

    • RebeccaKW

If you could swap ‘attends award show’ with ‘attends brunch with friends,’ then your look is a bad choice for the awards show.

It really is cute (I like the shoe part of the shoes, not the heel or platform or whatever), but it does not work well for this event.

    • Rhonda Shore

Exactly…it’s just too everyday for Nicole on the RC…

  • SewingSiren

    Harsh.

  • MilaXX

I was just thinking I liked the idea of the shoe more than I like the shoe itself. The outfit is cute, but doesn’t read “Star”.

  • Janet B

The perfect dress for someone who wants one “good” lbd.
Completely wrong for Mrs. Urban at this venue.

  • nannypoo

This would be a nice dress for a different occasion. Lately everyone seems to be wearing that below the knee hem length that is so unflattering. Here, for a change, we have a dress that is too short for its occupant.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=14301272 Kate Gorton

God, how do you walk in those things? It must feel like you’re constantly stepping on Legos with the arch of your foot.

    • Little_Olive

      Hahaha very graphic description.

To me, they don’t seem all that painful but rather weird to walk in, because walking with shoes requires you to be able to hit the floor with the heel before the tip. Shame really, because the top part of the shoes (in a different color) wasn’t bad.

  • WendyD

This is fine. After all those gorgeous gowns she sported at Cannes, this must have seemed like a 5-year-old’s birthday party. But those shoes are ridiculous.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

What the fuck Nicole? I kid. Maybe she was fashionably tired from turning it out in Cannes?

  • majorbedhead

What is going on with her hair? Did someone try to make it a little poufy on top? It looks odd. And dry.

And those shoes are making my feet hurt just looking at them.

    • MilaXX

      They do look exceptionally uncomfortable.

    • AmeliaEve

Step away from the flat iron!

    • YoungSally

I thought maybe she had extenders implanted in her forehead to make it taller.

      I am cranky today

  • Aaminah Khan

I actually love the shoes. Shame the rest is so dull.

  • Calinda_L

She must be sartorially EXHAUSTED after Cannes. Good for her for showing up in anything fancier than PJs and a box of chocolates.

    • zenobar

Agreed. Although we also would have accepted “yoga pants and a pint of Cherry Garcia.”

  • Heather

Plus notice the shoes are from the Fall collection and they are white – after Labor Day, gasp!!

    • aeb1986

I thought in between memorial day and labor day was when white was PC?? (even though I thought that rule went out the window ages ago)

      • Heather

Yes it’s fine for her to wear them now, but since they’re officially ‘fall’ shoes they’re meant to be worn after LD.

        • aeb1986

ahh i see. so its a shoe catch 22!

  • Jeff Warhurst

    Dior is hideous now.

  • DiverK

As much as I love a nice LBD, black does not photograph well.

  • marlie

Sorry, Nic. I’m disappointed. You can do so much better than this.

  • Karen Dickerson

Oi, someone get that poor girl’s hair a deep conditioning treatment.

  • ashtangajunkie

How boring. I was expecting Ms. Kidman to show us how it’s done at the CMTs.

  • Warrior89

Hate the shoes. I don’t like her face either. Or her hair. *sipping haterade* My work here is done.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Those shoes just look awkward. It’s not an interesting innovation. It’s just… it looks mistaken.

Dress is too boring to comment on.

  • OrigamiRose

I wear a dress like that (obviously, so not in the same label league) to work all the time.

Then again, it was a country music awards thing so maybe her usual wheelhouse wasn’t going to work and she went with “incredibly simple.” Sheryl Crow’s getup, which seemed to borrow from everywhere, was quite bad.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Just say no to the hobble shoes

  • EdithP

I thought this must be the Daytime CMT awards.

  • bertkeeter

CD? What… they have a line at TARGET? I’ve seen this dress at Bergdorf’s…it’s soooo basic, belongs in a mid price dress department….except for the price, around $3,500!

  • AndreaSkates

I made myself a dress exactly like that when I was in high school. And I was no youthful sewing phenom.

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I think she dressed “down” because the event is for her husband and not for her.

  • Kent Roby

With such a boring outfit, Nicole could’ve at least had some fun by throwing on some crazy rhinestoned cowboy boots.

  • decormaven

“Those shoes look really cool when someone’s foot isn’t in them.” I’m DYING here! Huzzahs for such a true statement.

  • Erica

She might be as tired of attending the seemingly endless parade of country music shindigs as we are reading about them (present website excepted, of course).

  • NYCGlamourpuss

It’s not her usual, “BAM!! FASHION, BITCHES!”, but damn if she still doesn’t bring it, even in something this simple.

    • 3boysful

I kinda like it, too. It’s like Cathy Cambridge yesterday–this is Keith’s thing, so she shouldn’t be trying to upstage anyone.

Although, Nicole, honey, try the moroccan oil products from the drug store. Your tresses need some tlc.

  • Tracy_Flick

The white shoes with a black dress combo is for toddlers.

  • GillianHolroyd

Agree she looks underdressed for the event but that dress fits her beautifully. Her hair makes her head look square though.

  • Danielle L

Amazing how something so incredibly expensive looks like something I could buy at Target.

  • conniemd

Back to the straight fried hair. And look at those split ends. Nicole, get your hair cut at least an inch.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Shouldn’t these be pictures of Keith? I mean he’s the country music star, she’s just his plus one.

Agree about the shoes, they are cool without a foot in them. Pretty makeup, blah hair.

  • frannyprof

I’m sure Ms. Kidman will be happy to know that I’ve decided she should no longer wear her hair down. She looks much better with it up. Also, she needs to stop with the botox.

  • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

    she looks scary.
those shoes are scary, too, but in a good way.

  • TheAmericaness

Maybe she’s just trying not to be the “OSCAR WINNER!!!” married to the what’s his bucket country music star. I know, I know, but let’s face it, it’s still just country music compared to acting. Which is considered more prestigious? The Oscars or the CMAs? If she shows up all glammed out – and a lot of the woman there are as fancy as they are going to get (No T, No Shade), – she’s going to knock every woman there out of the park – she knows it, they know it, and Keith knows it. I’m glad she did this. Shows she’s not a mean girl.

  • Chuck Barthelme

At least her hair isn’t looking like she put her finger in an electrical socket, which it did recently. I agree totally on the shoes. They look odd when worn.

  • Stella Zawistowski

I have that dress. Except mine is from Target and cost $50. It’s fine, but…yeah, it’s just fine.

  • girliecue

Considering the sheer amount of these shindigs she has to attend, I’m surprised she puts in any effort at all. She could throw on jeans off the floor and a sparkly t-shirt – sequins, glitter, it doesn’t matter – and still pass muster.

  • kim bunchalastnames

someone’s forehead is frozen again. and she looked so GOOD at cannes.

    • surfergirl70

The forehead with the resulting pushed-down eyes, the filled lips… Her face makes me sad.

  • Betsy

Also, WHAT is this blonde-straw-”If-I-Only-Had-A-Brain”-hair look? Hasn’t it PLEASE had its day, and now we can finally retire it??? Please?? ICKY!!

  • shelley514

It looks like some of the movement is returning to her face. Thank goodness!

  • maretha2

A brief note of dissent from my fellow Kittens: Doesn’t Nicole usually dress fairly restrained when she’s attending Keith’s (many … oh so many) country music awards events? I think she looks great and I give her a pass on not bringing the full glamor because she just blew right past glamor into full-on diva goddess at Cannes. Let the girl wear a simple dress and hair.

And I love the shoes. I have similar ones (much lower price tag of course) and they are not at all uncomfortable. Much more comfy than a typical stiletto; I have sensitive feet and I’ve walked blocks and blocks before without problems.

  • dschubba

She’s dressed for happy hour at a strip-mall bar.

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

I think she looks awful. Hair, face, stance, shoes. The dress is invisible. Not a good look for her.

  • Sadie-Ann

I sort of like that she’s so simple since this isn’t an event for her.

  • ankali

The dress is boring, but I actually think she’s working the shoes just fine.

  • MemHey

There’s something really sweet about how Nashville is not besmirched with excess pap presence, where quite famous people (including but not limited to the country music set) can still live a relatively normal life. I imagine it’s a nice change of pace, and in some ways, keeping the Glam-with-a-capital-G out of it is a nice tip of the hat to a culture that’s just as fine to leave well enough alone. She looks comfortable (sans shoes) and at ease – what better way to celebrate a genre of music based on front porches and sunset sounds?

  • Melissa Brogan

That dress is, like, nothing. It doesn’t look bad on her, it’s just nothing to look at really. The shoes make her feet look pained. I am sad for her feet.

  • MarissaLG

I think she looks nice. Yeah, it’s plain, but it’s styled well and she looks comfortable. Also (and I might be wrong on this) she’s there to support her husband, not promote her own thing, so I think it works.

  • MaggieMae

Girl needs eyedrops. The whites of her eyes match her skin, making her look tired. Although, after Cannes, maybe she IS tired. Take a nap, dear.

  • ErmengardeGreen

Dress that I could wear, shoes that no one can wear. (Though that summary is perfect: they look great without a foot in them.) Maybe her other dress caught fire and she was already wearing this.

  • Patty

At least she seems to be wearing just her own hair.

  • Lizzy

    Ugh… and those shoes…. just… no.

  • Carly

maybe she’s just sick of all these country awards shows just like we are
