Mireille Enos in J. Mendel

Posted on June 18, 2013

We gotta say, this is pretty much working for us. No, really.

Mireille Enos attends the premiere of ‘World War Z’ in New York City in a J. Mendel copper multi abstract painted jacquard off the shoulder gown paired with a Movado watch, Norman Silverman and Le Vian jewelry, and Rupert Sanderson ‘Elba’ pumps.

Not a hundred percent, of course, but we think this is the direction her red carpet looks should be going. A neo-hippie-glam vibe really works well with her looks, so bright, wild prints, big jewelry, and free-flowing hair are really, really good ideas for her. She should definitely stay pointed at this area of the style map. This does not mean, however, that we love everything here. Black patent leather pointy-toed pumps with a gown is a thing that makes T Lo’s eyelids twitch in silent fits of existential dread. Also, we like metallic-mixing when it’s done well, but we don’t think that clutch works. And the sleeve length is awkward. And if you’re a nail-biter, it might be a good idea to stick to neutral or light nail colors for formal, picture-taking events.

But despite all that bitchy quibbling, we really think this is the best she’s looked in some time on a red carpet and that this sort of 21stC Juice Newton thing actually works quite well for her.

Go bolder with the jewelry next time, Mireille. You’re the type of gal who can handle ten pounds of precious stones at a time.

My eyes were automatically drawn to the shoes, I didn’t even notice the sleeve length or clashing clutch. I actually really like it except the shoes and hair.

I may be in the minority, but I’m more over the mermaid hair then the cocker spaniel hair.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Yes, hair should compliment, not overwhelm.

    • Little_Olive

I don’t mind the mermaid hair as much as it ending so randomly. The ends of straignt hair need to be either fine and flowy when it’s pin-straight, or thick and slightly rounded.

      The shoes attack me.

  • Mismarker

“21st Century Juice Newton”. Just call her angel of the morning, baby!

I love her look here. Having just recently gotten back into The Killing, I absolutely appreciate seeing her in something other than a fisherman’s sweater and blue jeans. Also, that smile. I’ll even forgive her those dreadful shoes.

    • teensmom99

I love this phrase even more: neo-hippie-glam vibe.
And I don’t watch the Killing but I love this dress–sleeve length included.

    • dalgirl

Not to mention her sister-wife dresses in Big Love…who knew she was hiding so much?

  • jen_vasm

Oh no, you didn’t press the Juice Newton button. Hilarious.

    • TheAmericaness

      “… knowin’ it ain’t really smart…”

  • MilaXX

I like everything but the shoes. Also, as a participating member of the numby nail club, I don’t mind her dark nails.

  • gabbilevy

For once she doesn’t look oddly off-balance. Grading on a curve, I’d say this is a pretty impressive win.

  • jonnyf8

I love her on The Killing and I love her here. Seeing her in the previews makes me want to see that World War Z.

  • Jessica Freeman

I wished her hair was behind her shoulders. Its just a bit distracting from all that is going on with that dress.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

She’s the right girl for this dress – it could have gone so wrong, but I love it here. I don’t know much about this lady, but 21st Century Juice Newton puts her solidly in the irrational LOVE column for me. Also – Happy Birthday, TOM!

  • filmcricket

Agreed on the shoes (ugh!) and the nails. Don’t mind the clutch. Wish she’d vivify her hair just the tiniest bit, or worn a bolder lip or something. Her head just looks oddly pale and daytime for such a dramatic gown.

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

My first thought upon viewing these pics: “She looks so 2003.”

    • Lisa Utter

Mine was that she looks like a forest fire.

      • demidaemon

Mine was that she looks like the dress version of those craft projects you used to do, where you colored a sheet of paper with multiple crayons, painted it with black paint, and then scratched out certain parts to show the coloring.

        • Qitkat

Those were so much fun. All us budding artists in the fifth grade!

  • Virginia McMurdo

Fashion aside, I am always blown away at how pretty she is with the big smile and thick hair and all of that. Shoes are yucky, but you go, Mireille.

  • Ekw

Love the photo of her signing autographs!

  • Macunaima

She looks fresh and like she is having a good time! The black nails were a mistake, no doubt.

  • Spicytomato1

She’s so striking and I like how fresh and untortured her whole look is. The dress really flatters her and seems so appropriate for the occasion.

  • Diego!

Except for the hair and shoes, this is a stunning dress and she is rocking it! It’s a pitty her shoes are so awful and her hair looks as if it had just been washed seconfs before she stomped onto the red carpet.

  • carnush

That dress was made for her. Gorgeous. The accessories are OK.

  • I’d prefer it if she didn’t have a black strip across boobs and crotch. It looks like the pattern has been censored. I really like the dress though, and I will wear one just like it if I ever need to officiate at an autumn handfasting.

  • marlie

I like this a lot. It’s a skosh long, and I think it’s evident in the way it fits in the hips, but otherwise, this dress is gorgeous on her. The shoes are boring, but inoffensive. And her hair and makeup are fabulous. Possibly the best hair and makeup she’s had on the red carpet.

ETA: In that picture where she’s signing an autograph… she really has a spectacular smile!

  • nannypoo

I like this a lot. I think I would like it even more with a different neckline. The fabric is interesting and she looks beautiful.

  • conniemd

I think that dress is stunning.

  • MissMariRose

OMG, Juice Newton. I haven’t heard her stuff in a while. Excuse me, please. I’m off to YouTube.

  • Darren Nesbitt

I don’t like the print of this dress it reminds me of glittery notebook covers. Lisa Frank or something

  • You get Juice Newton, I get a poor man’s Jerry Hall.

  • crash1212

I love this look! All quibbles aside…she looks great.

  • Stella Zawistowski

I love the textile so much I didn’t even notice the shoes. Love this dress!

  • ballerinawithagun

Happy Birthday Tom! Thanks for the early morning pleasure!
I love the copper; yes the sleeves should be 3″ longer, right now they will get stuck in the bend of her elbow. Her hair needs a little finishing on the ends but since her shoulders are bare her hair is not conflicting with details of the dress.
I don’t watch the Killing so I’m not familiar with her. She reminds me of Diane Sawyer and she looks like fun.

  • deathandthestrawberry

Juice Newton. That’s a name I haven’t heard in forever.

  • decormaven

Let’s get her a better manicurist for the next red carpet. An intensive cuticle prep and a warmer shade of polish for this gal, who can sell a look with her winning smile. Love her earrings- she definitely can wear bolder pieces.

  • I wish her hair coil went all the way around her head to put her hair up in a loose updo kind of thing. But that dress! Love it.

  • jw_ny

It’s a great dress, and suits her perfectly. Overall well done.

  • chylde

Dang, nail biters need to get acrylic tips for these red carpet events!

  • TLJezebel

I must be really out of touch because I have no idea who 90% of the people in TLo’s posts are.
I suppose it does’t really matter, does it?

    • Howard Sturrup

May just mean you have a life, I can’t really keep track of all the comings an goings in pop culture it’s exhausting an nothing more than mindless fun.

  • Danielle L

I hate the hair over one shoulder trend. A girl I went to high school with did it so much that her hair literally got “stuck” that way.

    • Not applicable

hahha- my grandma used to tell me that would happened if I crossed my eyes- but never heard that about hair! 🙂

  • MK03

It’s kind of shocking how great she looks when she isn’t filming The Killing. They really frump her up, don’t they?

    • Not applicable

yes- and before that she was on Big Love as (twins) sister wives. clearly she’s comfortable with her true self… as she should be, she’s beautiful.

  • Holy crap a nail biter!

  • cowper

This dress has PERSONALITY. Rock on!

  • Noelle

Enh. It’s okay, but I’m not thrilled with this. I agree with another poster who was bothered by the two “censor bars” across her boobs & ladybits area – it’s really distracting. I also am having a bit of a eye twitch at the center seam on the upper part.

It DOES seemevent-appropriate in an end-of-the-world-themed way, I guess, and it IS better than just another boring gown. I’m getting more of an Anne Rice vibe than a Juice Newton one, though I love and appreciate the reference!

  • Qitkat

It’s nice to see that she doesn’t look so gloomy and down-trodden in real life. I had no idea she was really a lovely woman. The autograph picture is quite charming. Love the coppery elements on the dress. And they do resemble flames as another poster said.

  • bellafigura1

I love her, I really do. She’s fantastic in The Killing (and had a strong small part in Gangster Squad). She just has a great face, mad expressive.

  • DailyDose

forget the clutch, get a broomstick and a witch hat, she is ready for halloween

  • GTrain

I wouldn’t have thought that was a great dress but it looks great on her.

  • bd73

russet curls would have gone better with the dress and i prefer that smile outlines in red (deep bronze in this case).

  • Lola Channing

the dress looks like her boyfriend was spray painting his car and she walked by. I hate everything. The hair, the earrings, the bracelets. Good lord girl, talk about a killing. But not in a good way.
