Miley Cyrus in New York City

Posted on June 27, 2013

After we shook our fist at her yesterday and told her to get the hell of our lawn, Miley clearly decided to pull back on the reins a little today and do something low-key on the style front.

Miley Cyrus greeted by fans as she leaves her hotel in New York City in an Emilio Pucci blue silk embroidered bomber jacket and blue silk knee-length skirt paired with white pumps.

Emilio Pucci Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Grace Mahary

This is low-key for Miley. This is “executive realness” for Miley. She got up that morning and said to the world, “Today, I’m going to pretend to be a LAWYER! ‘I object, your highness!’”

Is it us or does this look like a very business-like folk-dancing costume? Like she should be dancing in a circle and smashing dishes at a wedding reception while filing a brief at the same time?

We tease because we love. We actually kinda like this on her. We don’t know who else in the world would ever get a chance to pull off a look like this other than Miley, so she might as well go for it. We’re not loving the white pumps with this, though. We probably would’ve put her in some sort of bronzey metallic shoe.

Also kind of loving the Victor/Victoria hair.

    • Chris T

That’s some Chun-Li realness right there.

      • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

I was thinking the same thing!

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Beat me to it. I was stuck in the google trying to find her name while the theme song played loudly in my head.

        • drdarke

You mean STREET FIGHTER II: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI, starring that great Far Eastern performer, Kristen (BEAUTY & THE BEAST reboot) Kruek?

      • moppet

Lightning kick! (not in that skirt tho)

        • sekushinonyanko

Well like Chun Li’s skirt, this is slit to the hip so she could do one.

      • Angela

It is completely Chun-Li! Even down to the white footwear. ;)

      • It’s Kimmy

Yo I WAS just coming in here to say that!

    • Mariah J

She really should have paired this awesome jacket with some high waisted pants rather than going with the matching runway skirt, still better than 99% of her looks.

      • barbarienne

Her version of the jacket is cropped about 4″. Look at the position of the ribbing to the applique on her and on the model. It might have looked better if she had the longer jacket.

Though I really like your suggestion of the high waisted pants.

        • Donna Tabor

Well, she’s probably at least 8″ shorter than a runway model. At least she had it altered.

    • nannypoo

It’s the uniform of the Secret Order of the Crazyass Fame Whores, of which she is president.

    • somebody blonde

I’d like it a lot better if the side-slits weren’t so high. It’s really pretty cool until you see that.

    • lobsterlen

Lets pause a second and think about how her style has evolved. I remember when she was wearing hippy clothes with a road kill necklace.

      • nannypoo

I’ve begun to miss those days.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Oh days of yore. I found myself watching a youtube video from barely a year or so ago, singing Jolene in a back yard somewhere. It was great and I was reminded that her whiskey voice could have been put to such a better use than soulless beats and lyrics about stripper poles and MDMA.

        • formerlyAnon

Yeah. I don’t think she’s hit her musical/professional sweet spot. (Well, she IS 20 maybe my expectations are unrealistic.)

          • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I don’t blame her really. You’ve heard the shit that tops the charts these days. And I get that was her goal, to be a chart topping STAR. Maybe in a few years she’ll come back around to the art and the craft.

        • LipstickForPigs

I saw that video too. It made me like her.

    • neonseattle

trying too hard to be rihanna.

      • MrsBug

        THANK YOU! My thoughts, exactly.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

      She’s Sergeant Pepper’s Attorney.

      • formerlyAnon

        Best line today, IMO!

    • Marina

Rihanna might pull it off better

    • MoHub

The bare belly and the overly high slit turn the skirt into a mock sarong. And not in a good way.

      • MoHub

Weird. I did not post this.

    • JasmineAM

She is such a try-hard. We get it, Miley. You’re an adult. You shouldn’t have to try this hard to be “edgy” (while still making generic pop songs like your current single). You are so cool.

      • Surely

Ugh. I totally agree. Trying way too hard – especially with the slave bracelet. Makes me think of a rebellious teenager who is just trying to shock her parents.

        • largishbearishAtlish

was wondering if anyone else noticed the overkill on the wrist trinkets. Way too much there.

      • Little_Olive

Yeah, it’d be better if it were sometimes, not ALL.THE.TIME.

    • Lesley

i’m actually really feeling this..on the model. i think miley’s beautiful and find myself kinda loving her but i don’t know maybe it’s the shoes i’m not loving? i can’t put my finger on it, but somethings not doing it for me. i have to say though, that waist of hers is super tiny, leaving me super jealous.

    • Insidiously

This is very Chun-Li, I like

    • MK03

I never would have picked her to pull off this New Punk look she has now, but she’s doing it.

    • Tatiana Luján

I hate what she’s wearing. Ugly and tacky on the model and on her.

    • Ren

That slit really ups the tacky factor though ….

    • Little_Olive

This I can’t endorse. Its Liberace at Nascar, the girls version.

      • formerlyAnon

That’s kind of why I like it. (hangs head in faux-shame)

    • formerlyAnon

I love: the hair, the top, the face (esp. the eyelashes). Like the skirt. Meh on shoes.

      Big step up.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

This is sooo Katy Perry! Still trying too hard!! But i prefer this lip color.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

I love the girl in the third photo with the Miley-clone hair. Yikes, that must be frightening!

    • NormDeplume720

As much as I love your way with words, TLo, I think it’s time to retire the word “realness.”

    • MilaXX

It’s completely wild and out there, but I like how new Miley has been dressing. Agree she should have gone for a metallic shoe though.

    • conniemd

I love the look on her, but it did make me hot, considering the weather we’ve been having back east. Bomber jacket? I’m swooning from heat prostration at the thought.

    • Anniebet

This person is the the only one on my irrational (or maybe not so irrational) hate list, so I can’t, but…I’m still giggling over the fuzzy diapers.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

This is… kind of okay! Although I resent white pumps on principle.

    • wonderdivaEtsy

I think she’s always waving her hands around because she’s afraid the Lee Press-On nails are going to fly off at the slightest touch.

Maybe I would try to look at her a bit longer if she had a Hot Ginger handler in the background?

      • makeityourself

Did you notice the chunk of nail that IS flying off?

I love all of it. Especially the white shoes.

      • formerlyAnon

I would look at the *photo* longer if there were a HGH in it. Not necessarily at her.

    • frannyprof

Girl is clearly stoned, drunk, or both.

      • JANA WELLS

yes!!! I was just thinking the same thing.

        • demidaemon

I think that’s just her usual state of mind.

    • JauntyJohn

While in general she is not my cup of tea, the girl has a brilliant smile, a rockin’ figure and is a natural show(wo)man.

With all that said, I’m starting to get Miley Fatigue.

    • Stella Zawistowski

She looks like a Singapore Airlines stewardess who cropped the top of her uniform.

    • filmcricket

This outfit is crazeballs. Good colour on her though.

    • barbarienne

I have come to the conclusion that her upbringing just prevented her from ever having any idea what normal clothes are. It was always stagewear and costumes, not just for her but for everyone she knew.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Who is the kid in the red & orange? He’s been alongside her in a few pictures recently and he is way too young to be her handler!

      • Donna Tabor

Look at their mouths. Doesn’t he look like he could be Miley’s brother?

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Could be. Does she have a brother?

    • GillianHolroyd

Huh, I just realised that it is Thai writing on her shirt sleeve.

White pumps will never *not* be trashy.

    • PinkySlinky

      Chun-Li…

    • kimbalala

I can’t get past the comb over.

    • Addicted2Glamour

I will go on record as saying the ONLY thing working here is the make-up.

    • cowper

Who is Emilio Pucci and why is he allowed to design clothes?

      • Donna Tabor

Bite your tongue. Pucci prints were a mainstay of fashion in the late 60′s, early 70′s. Classic stuff.

        • cowper

Past performance is no predictor of future results.

          • Donna Tabor

Go look at some of the other clothing they design and sell. Cyrus just happened to pick out the single crazy piece. Most of the rest are beautiful and very wearable.

            • cowper

Thanks for reminding me about Pucci’s legacy. Those early prints were totally fabulous, and there are some beautiful things on the Pucci website; the latest guy in charge of design there is producing some good stuff. But I have to agree with BuffaloBarbara that the spring ready-to-wear collection, where the Miley piece came from, seems like an overall eyesore. Hoping this is just a fluke collection!

        • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, but late 60s, early 70s? This is your wardrobe on drugs. And the collection TLo links to here is kind of all over fugly.

          • cowper

I agree! Eek–all sorts of see-through ugliness and Asian kimonos (and this is called ready-to-wear?!?) The Miley outfit looks downright restrained compared to the rest of the collection.

    • Sarah T.

She’s going fight in an underground Mortal Kombat regional qualifying event. Her fighting name is Saffire.

      • snarkykitten

Her finishing move is stabbing people’s ear drums with a stiletto

    • alwaysanswerb

      Oh this is FABULOUS

    • fnarf

I don’t care what anybody says, I love her. Crazy? Sure. She’s twenty, for chrissakes — she SHOULD be crazy. She always looks like she’s having a great time, which is the whole point of life at that age, isn’t it? It’s not like she’s threatening people’s lives like Mr. Bieber. And if there’s a little F U to her gross hillbilly daddy in some of these clothes and styling decisions, GOOD FOR HER.

      • ailujailuj

great post… but… I can’t help but feel that familiar twinge like we’re watching someone on the verge of a loud, messy meltdown, what with the combover and all. or is it that I’m disgusted with myself that I’m watching. hard to tell.

        • formerlyAnon

Maybe I’m kidding myself but whenever I get a “verge of meltdown” whiff from her, I imagine it as loud, messy, embarrassing, but then contained, dealt with, and after the necessary time for maybe therapy and grounding and come to Jesus talks, she shows up ready to focus on work and functional. It may all be in my head, but I’ve always felt that there was *some*body with some plain old ordinary common sense in her background. Like there’s a godparent or grandma’s best friend living in a 1970s 4-bedroom ranch (tract home) somewhere that’s still got input.

And, more rationally, if Drew Barrymore can figure out how to put together what looks like from the outside, anyway, a functional life following chronic self-sabotage, anybody can.

    • Eric Stott

To me it looks like “You want table or booth?”

    • Shawn EH

Why did she go for the child size rather than the adult version of the jacket?

    • marlie

No lie, I had a black, Asian-inspired-embroidered bomber jacket like 20 years ago. It’s a little cray-cray, but I sort of like it on Miley.

    • stubbornthoughts

This sort of thing is reserved for Rihanna.

Miley looks like she just got fired from her waitressing job.

    • Carrieanno

      Whatever.

    • lehen

      rihanna??

    • newtonGOTbeaned

I kind of wish she was wearing pants with the jacket, but it looks pretty fun anyway. Ridiculous, but fun. And she got so much hotter when she chopped her hair off.

    • spooki C

      SO. MUCH. FUG.
This outfit would be ugly on anyone, but she did choose to wear it so I’m not cutting her any slack.

    • Trisha26

      Hideous including the hair.

    • PrunellaV

Unfortunately, from some angles she looks like Justin Bieber in a dress.

    • demidaemon

I could get behind this more if the top wasn’t obviously a size too small and that slit wasn’t letting me see everything underneath her skirt. Still, this is a step up from yesterday. Small favors.

    • Jecca2244

i think it might just be me…but it looks super cheap.

    • JP

      Wow, a 85% improvement over yesterday’s yeast-infection-diaper look.

    • MannahattaMamma

She has fans? I’m not sure which makes me more unhappy: those cheap-ass white shoes or the fact that there are people in the world who want to lurk outside a hotel waiting to watch someone who would choose to *wear* these shoes.

    • amber.

Is it just me or is Miley dressing a bit like Rihanna?

      • veleri

        it’s not you

    • ankali

Fucking hideous. Reminds me of those awful silk jogging suits that were all the rage amongst the Southern middle-aged ladies I waited on in high school in 1994.

    • JeWawa

I love this. It’s pretty fabulous.

    • veleri

I do like the fact that she is wearing a little less make up.

    • Pennymac

Did she take that jacket off of a small Chinese Boy Scout?

    • Diego!

This is screaming Miss Saigon all over, but drenched in pot and opium. Let’s not even mention her shoes choice… Sorry, keep trying Miley!

    • Heather

It’s a repurposed Members Only jacket and a skirt she made in Home Ec!

    • Jessica Freeman

This is the female version of a Michael Jackson ensemble.

      • shorty j

I was thinking Freddie Mercury for some reason. I kinda wish she had worn trousers instead of the matchy skirt.

    • MrsBug

I wish she’d get rid of the Rihanna nails.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

desperately sought susan visits a thrift store in chinatown. and that’s a good thing.

    • Dan_In_NYC

More is always more with Miley, God love her. You guys are dead on with folk executive realness. I’m not feeling the hair, though.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I usually love the way Miley dresses. This is bad, especially the white pointy shoes.

I’m amused at the ring/bracelet hooked together. My sister and I wore these in our hippie days. We had them for our feet, too. They were quiet pretty. Very “Gypsy” looking.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I actually really do love this on her. And I’m not even mad at her for the look from last week – I mean, yeah, it was cray-cray. But she’s 20 – I mean, when the hell is she gonna dress like this, when she’s all middle-aged and shit like me? So I’m okay with it. But this look, I really do love it on her!

    • Mary Lauer

ANY color other than white for the shoes!!
