Matthew Morrison in NYC

Posted on June 06, 2013

Matthew Morrison is the gayest straight man we’ve ever seen. That’s a compliment, son.

Matthew Morrison seen while making a stop at ‘Today’ show in New York City.

He looks adorable, but if he was a stranger walking down the street, you’d never be able to convince us he was straight, based solely on how he’s dressed. But those theater boys can be so rough on the gaydar, amirite, fellow homosexuals? Very confusing signals. Like English men.

We keep expecting him to break into a tap routine. Is that wrong?

towards the end of this post “Gay or European?” started playing in my head… loudly. I can’t be the only one.

    • Diego!

hahahaha I go for the first choice. Did I win? hahahah xD

    • blueberrypanckae

      nice!

    • Aurumgirl

Better than asking “Hipster or Amish?”, I think.

      • TheAmericaness

        hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Now to get the paper towel to clean up the Snapple I just spit all over the comp….

      • prettybigkitty

Here in Portland we like to play “Hipster or Homeless?”

  • Evy B. Colón-García

Him and Tveit are the ones who drive my gaydar crazy…

  • SewingSiren

    He’s very cute.

  • Eric Stott

    love, love, LOVING the shoes.

    • Snailstsichr

I wish the rest of his outfit was as awesome as his shoes. Love them!

      • Eric Stott

I would mug him in an alley and steal his shoes. I’d also steal his pants, but I’d dump them in the nearest trash can.

  • Diego!

hahahahaa Your gaydar must be on fire! hahaa I loved this post. Love his look too, but I’m not very fond of those shoes…

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I would absolutely think he was a stylish gay man if I saw him on the street. I want them shoes HARD.

  • BazoDee

Totally destroyed my gaydar settings. Will have to send it back to the shop for recalibration. He looks super adorable, but yeah – I would be setting him up with my gay friends.

  • Meg0GayGuys6

He’s straight?! I always had Patrick Dempsey as the gayest straight man in my head (I think his role in Will and Grace sticks in my head) but he’s been dethroned!

  • Janet B

    Hahahaha
Love the shoes. He needs to put on a linen suit and those shoes would be perfect.

  • Lesley

i wish i could get my fiance into those shoes!

  • AndreaSkates

And I bet, just like my English boyfriend in college, this one can cook Thai food and wears those shoes to go out swing dancing. Confusion only grows the more details you have.

    • formerlyAnon

With the confusing ones I always figure it’s an object lesson in the theory that gay-bi-straight is a spectrum. Which I tend to forget. (And a reminder to thank my lucky stars if it’s working out for me at the moment.)

    • higgledypiggledy

My English husband is Kinsey-scale-zero straight, and actually owns those shoes. He also wears an ascot when the weather is chilly, and a silk pocket square every time he puts on a jacket. The boys do love him…

      • formerlyAnon

        You lucky girl, you.

        • AndreaSkates

          I couldn’t agree more!

  • hughman

I am fascinated by his “pretend things to do with your hands/arms to show you are walking”. ACTING!

  • MilaXX

He looks really cute here, but he’s number one on the male side of my irrational hate list. He was on The View this morning wearing those shoes with a suit. He did in fact do a little soft shoe. Mostly he tried to pimp an CD he has coming out. I think he wants big time stardom after Glee, but my gut tells me he’ll end up back in theater.

    • MarieLD

That’s funny. I hope he does end up back in the theater. He’s great on stage and that IS stardom to this NYer. (But I totally understand what you meant.) I hope Lea Michelle can come back to the theater.

      • MilaXX

I appreciate a good theater actor, but I think Matt wants to be a STAR.

    • Sobaika

That’s too bad, he’s very talented. The time to strike was the first season of Glee. I can’t imagine this album getting much heat now.

  • Danielle L

Presh. That hair is defying gravity.

  • Rhonda Shore

it’s not wrong, at least not with those shoes! Those white/two-tone shoes are classically worn by good dancers!

  • Julia

    MATTHEW MORRISON IS STRAIGHT? WAT

  • Little_Olive

But… he looks like he just woke up from a 20-minute power nap.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Truer words, never spoken. It’s why I still give Effron the benefit of the doubt. Matthew looks pretty adorable here, usually he pings my irrational douche vibe list, but today, he’s just casually dapper and that takes skills.

    • girliecue

You are now on my Christmas list for giving me a new list: Irrational Douche Vibe. If you can’t judge someone, then at least categorize them. Thanks!

  • marlie

Definitely a good look, but I sort of wish he had a a *slightly* dressier shirt. Also, SO glad that he’s laid off of the product in his hair.

  • claudemtl777

straight to the next guy is more like it…

  • Kathy_Marlow

It looks like something Gene Kelly would have worn in a movie, which of course means I LOVE IT

    • Eclectic Mayhem

Should’ve read through before I posted. Those shoes feature heavily in the Moses Supposes routine in Singin’ in the Rain. Great minds!

      • Kathy_Marlow

The rest of the outfit needs a little tweaking, I agree with your post. The shoes are fricking swoon-worthy.

      • Beardslee

One of my favorite scenes in my favorite movie.

        • TheAmericaness

That whole movie is awesome, but that is one of the best hands down! Did you know that Jean Hagen actually did her own singing voice in the movie? You know how Debbie Reynolds was voicing over hers because it was supposed to be so bad? Well, Debbie Reynolds couldn’t sing quite like THAT, so Jean Hagen sang for herself. Trivia! :D

      • AmeliaEve

Perhaps that is the secret theme of this post, since we all know that Moses supposes erroneously.

        • formerlyAnon

          Well done, Ms. AmeliaEve.

      • GorgeousThings

I KNEW I had seen them somewhere. Thank you!

    • ballerinawithagun

I love Gene Kelly and to everyone below Singin’ in the Rain is one of my all time favorite movies.

  • Mismarker

Mark my words. One day we will see him in spats. Just walking down the street wearing spats with slim fit khakis.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      And Euroscarf.

      • formerlyAnon

        god. please. no.
Last summer, on about day 30 of temps over 100 F, I saw a well groomed man in skinny jeans, high end tee and one of those scarves emerging from a near-campus coffee shop. If I’d rolled my eyes any harder, I’d have sprained something.

(Though I’d commit many questionable deeds for the leather briefcase/messenger bag hybrid he was carrying, & his leather sandals were also great, so I decided to believe he was visiting from Sweden or somewhere that they don’t understand the climate of the American Southwest.)

  • Eclectic Mayhem

If the trousers were a wee bit shorter and the top had a collar, was tucked in and was a wee bit tighter then he’d look like Gene Kelly Donald O’Connor* in Singin’ in the Rain. So I get why you think he’s about to tap dance.

*No way is this guy anywhere near as glorious to look at as Gene Kelly!

  • majorbedhead

Those shoes! God, I love spectator shoes. They don’t quite go with the outfit, but they are great nonetheless.

Yeah, he kind of pings my gaydar, but not enough to send it in for recalibration. That said, if he did come out, I wouldn’t be surprised.

  • formerlyAnon

“We keep expecting him to break into a tap routine. Is that wrong?”

No. If I saw him walking down the street in this my thought wouldn’t be so much gay or straight as “Dancer or former dancer?”

(Also, he usually bugs, but he looks very natural & not too annoying in this. I love the shoes, though I’m not sure they really coordinate that well.)

  • Ann VerWiebe

When I was in “the business” my standard operating procedure was gay unless proven otherwise.

  • Chuck Barthelme

And I always thought I owned that title- gayest straight man. Sad face.

  • NOLA_gal

You fans of man-saddle shoes need to come on down to New Orleans in the summer! Bow ties and saddle shoes everywhere you look! It’s adorable!

  • decormaven

Those shoes! Fine footwear aficionados, take notice.

  • Chris

Matthew Morrison should always dress this way. He looks like a very cute gay man. When he tries to do scarves, hats, anything too trendy or Hollywood he just looks douchey. And he probably isn’t, likely he is very nice.

  • GorgeousThings

No – in fact I was thinking those shoes look like something Donald O’Connor wore in “Singin’ in the Rain”

  • girliecue

Matthew Morrison, you are such a conundrum! Gay or straight? Cute or odd-looking? Boy Next Door or Slightly Creepy Teacher? Only thing I’m sure of is I love the spectator shoes and striped T. Not together, though. And khakis rarely excite.

  • mjude

i think he looks really cute. gotta love the shoes.

  • julnyes

You know I don’t hate him nearly as much as I used to and I think its because I stopped watching Glee.

  • MzzPants

My teen son fits in this category: so very pretty and so very straight. Of course, he’s headed for a career in performing arts.

    • formerlyAnon

Ah, the awkward conversations in his future!

    • shirab

As he’s probably found, it’s a great way to meet women. Be the only straight guy in the TheatRE Dept. and you will have plenty of young ladies after you. So says my husband, who immensely enjoyed being in plays in college.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

That’s a super good look for him.

  • sleepycat

I don’t know. i don’t think i have ever seen him as anything but straight. The rest of the Great White Way and English gentlemen know how to f with me though. I guess I also want to look like both groups, so that gets wrapped up in my gaydar interference,

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

    What’s with the hair?

  • lubilu

Ha! And I was just about to say ‘you haven’t met my English husband’.

  • BookishBren

He annoys the holy sh*t out of me.

Or maybe it is Mr. Shue.

    Or him.

Either way, I feel violent whenever I see a pic of him.

  • demidaemon

I don’t know. I think Hugh Jackman could give him a run for his money in the “gayest straight man” department. Still, he does look particularly cute here.

  • Glammie

Well, Broadway dancer calls for a whole different Gaydar setting. He has snazzy shoes, but if you compare him to Neil Patrick Harris, he looks kind of scruffy. His t-shirt hangs like a straight guy’s.

I feel sorry for him just because he’s so stuck with his part on Glee. He’s famous because of it, but people so hate Mr. Schue that I think it’s damaged his career. It’s a shame because he really does have a lot of talent.

  • Kimberlini

TLo – How can you sign off on those shoes with that outfit?? The shoes – somewhat dressy. The outfit – not. Now if he was wearing a linen suit, that would be different.

  • bellafigura1

    Way gay.

  • quiltrx

Aw, I thought Kellan Lutz was the gayest straight man you had ever seen, uncles!

  • http://www.facebook.com/rocki.rhodes Rocki Rhodes

One day he will come Out, oh yes, one day.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

    Those shoes give me life.

  • Carol

He’s quite a lovely looking GAGFI (Gives A Gay First Impression). My husband is one, too.

  • lesmaha

LOVE those shoes!! I want a pair!!

  • librarygrrl64

    Spectator wingtips, FTW!!!

  • Stacy Feng

Look how much better he looks when he washes his hair!
