Matthew McConaughey in Dolce&Gabbana

Posted on June 07, 2013

This deserves an “Attaboy.”

Matthew McConaughey attends the 6th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park in New Jersey in a three-piece Dolce&Gabbana suit.

It’s just a perfectly played look. It never goes too far or fails to commit, if that makes any sense. A suave, chic, somewhat low-key look, perfectly suited for the event. It helps that he’s not over-tanned and doesn’t have a pound of product in his hair. But it takes a certain man to pull off a white 3-piece summer suit and apparently Matthew’s that man. Like so many style-challenged stars, it turns out that the very best thing he can do for himself is keep it simple and chic.

    Attaboy indeed!

  • Florrie Brafman

I assume, though, that in the manner of Matt Damon doing his MMcC imitation, he suggested to his stylist that he wear the suit without a shirt.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

That was my first thought — Matthew with a shirt on is pretty much formal wear.

    • carpediva

“Mr. Soderbergh, today’s scene I think would be a good opportunity to take my shirt off.”

The start of my love affair with Matty D. Then after Entourage, all hope was lost.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Agreed on the suit… but something is not right about his head. Is it the hair cut giving me a Randy Travis vibe?

    • Lynn Landry

I thought his head looked like it was big and not attached to his body. Lol

  • Diego!

I disagree. I think the left sleeve is way too long (check it out) and his make up is disgusting. I love his shoes tough. It’s an OUT to me.

  • Janet B

    Perfect look for him.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

    He’s not over-tanned???? mmmmm -_________________-
And what about his trophy wife?
Leo is the master of white suit. :)

      my 3 thoughts

Like it a lot and it’s the perfect note to hit at a summer polo event. Not so sure on his lady companion’s tedious too-low bandage dress and orthopedic hooker shoes though.

    • marlie

Orthopedic hooker shoes – not something you hear in the same sentence very often (ever).

      • katchwa

Nope, I am a serious advocate of fashion that pulls together apparently clashing influences, But I Can Not Support That.

  • MrsKrause

If he stands in front of a big window, he’ll look like Gatsby.

Ehhh. I don’t know that I’m enjoying mature Matthew. There’s a snake oil salesman vibe about this that is turning me off. I miss his genuineness.

    • hellkell

Thank you, I thought it was me! There’s just something off about him.

      It’s like he stopped L-I-V-I-N’.

      • teensmom99

Gotta disagree. I feel like he’s aging naturally. He’s not as attractive as he ages–which is what happens to real people–but I kind of like that.

      • Rhonda Shore

He doesn’t look happy in this picture. Another thought: keeping things simple and chic is good advice for ANYONE!!!

  • ErmengardeGreen

Faaaabulous, And he’s Blue Steel-ing the shit out of it.

    • rajf

^Seriously. Shades of Paul Newman (no, not as good as PN but closer than I’ve ever seen from MM).

      • 1carmelita

        I had the same thought.

    • Nicola Anna Molly Page

Exactly my first thought – suck those cheeks in, Blue Steel 4 ur LIFE!

  • PrunellaV

It always helps to be accompanied by a beautiful woman in a bandage dress.

    • cowper

I read that as “bondage dress.” Same difference, I guess!

      • PrunellaV

        That, too! :-)

  • MilaXX

Great look, he appears to have bathed and everything.

  • marlie

He looks nothing like himself, but he really does look fabulous in this. Nice job!

  • DinahR

I would not have known that was MM. I like this look on him.

  • Candice Booth

I just don’t understand Camilla’s bandage dress. Can these please be retired? They are so boring!

    • aeb1986

I feel like theyre the easiest way to show off EVERYTHING without technically being naked….

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

        Expensive Spanx. Nothing more.

  • Donna Tabor

Except for the ice cream suit–which most non-celebrities aren’t going to wear–he actually looks like a normal person for a change. Well done.

  • conniemd

He looks good and seems to be aging well. He’s been one of my fav’s since “A Time To Kill.” He also is a guy who looks good being a little scruffy. (note the 5:00 shadow look here).

  • random_poster

Many times I walk away from his pictures thinking he forgot to take a shower. He looks good here. Brava Matthew!

  • Emily

I just can’t with him. He just screams douchebag, no matter what he wears.

  • Toto Maya

Is it just me, or does he look… not creepy? Not gross? My skin didn’t crawl? It must be some kind of record.

  • Anniebet

Great looking suit, but his face looks rather different.

  • SugarSnap108

He looks really different to me — his hair, but also his face. Has he lost weight? Three-piece white suits are not a fave of mine … There’s something very Ricardo Montalban/Fantasy Island about them. But he at least he looks pretty put-together.

    • OrigamiRose

He lost a ton of weight for an upcoming film (The Dallas Buyers Club) but I thought that was in the can and he was gaining it back. Still, yeah, he looks incredibly thin here.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Personally I need sungalsses…..just too much white to look at without eye protection. On a positive note: he’s fully shaved!

  • minnye

This is a sharp look but (in retrospect) I think I prefer patchouli Matthew. He always looked like he was having a good time.

  • quiltrx

He looks CLEAN, which definitely deserves an attaboy!

  • ItsDicey

Yep, perfect look for him. And this coming from someone who isn’t a fan. Best I’ve seen him look. Maybe ever?

  • decormaven

    Well-played, sir.

  • http://www.katymcdermott.com KatyMightHave

What is up with the “turtle leaning out of his shell” posture? Seriously, in that last picture it looks like he’s about to tip over!

  • Heather

Plus, he doesn’t look completely baked. So there’s that!

Now we need to get a stylist for his wife/girlfriend/partner. Bandage dresses and hooker shoes are so 2009, darling.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Serving Paul Newman realness. I approve.

  • majorbedhead

I kind of prefer the Dazed & Confused Matthew, but he does look nice here, although almost unrecognizable as MM, what with the weight loss.

  • SewingSiren

The suit is nice, but he’s over done it with the tanning.

  • Addicted2Glamour

The suit is just ‘ok’. I mean, I certainly understand his appeal with a certain demographic, but I’m just completely ‘meh’ when it comes to MattMc as a sex symbol. I do think he has come into his own as an actor, and I intend to see ‘Dallas Buyers Club.’ But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the extreme weight loss for that role (even after gaining much of that weight back, as it seems) has done something to his face and posture that i can’t quite put my finger on, rendering him almost unrecognizable.

  • PeaceBang

I didn’t recognize him all clean and with a shirt on.

  • Oliver Haskins

Do you think he goes commando under a white linen suit? Would D&G allow it?

  • librarygrrl64

The best (and least douchey) that he has looked in quite a while.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

He looks like he does not smell. Usually he looks like he smells.

This is how you nail a summer red-carpet look… minus the slouch.
