Kristen Wiig in Calvin Klein

Posted on June 25, 2013

Okay, that’s two semi-sassy outfits in a row for Miss Kristen. We’re thinking new stylist.

Kristen Wiig attends the premiere of ‘Despicable Me 2’ in Universal City, California in a Calvin Klein top, Alexander Wang shorts, and Manolo Blahnik shoes.

As with the last semi-sassy outfit, this one is kindasorta a good idea but not quite there yet, if that makes any sense. We appreciate this for being something a little outside Kristen’s normal earth-toned and drab comfort zone. We like the thinking of putting her in formal shorts,  white blouse and pop-of-color shoes. That’s all good-on-paper for a lady like Kristen, who we presume to be unfussy in her style and unlikely to be talked out of her box. Unfortunately, neither the short nor the blouse are shaped very nicely for her. The top is too big and the shorts too small, coming up too high. Almost a great look for her, if only the proportions were adjusted slightly.

    Downright despicable.

  • Anathema_Device

Not a fan of the oxymoronic “formal shorts,” but I guess a kids’ movie premiere would be the place to wear them. I think the blouse adds a lot of interest and keeps her from looking like a cigarette girl, which often happens with formal shorts. She looks a lot younger for some reason. Maybe it is the hair or the clothes?

P.S. I think clothing proportions are WHACK right now. High-waisted denim short shorts with an oversized blouse? Cropped everything? Strange days, indeed.

I agree that her hair (and even makeup) look really good. Somehow it softens her features a bit and makes her look more youthful.

  • MilaXX

I actually like this outfit on her. My only quibble is the blouse should be more fitted. Who knew she had such nice legs?

    • filmcricket

She’s got great legs. And I thought she was Aniston in the thumbnail (which I mean as a compliment). I wish the proportions on the shorts were a bit better, but she looks pretty cute.

      • CakesOnAPlane

I would pay Aniston to go with Kristen’s hair color.

  • HengRu

If I were a celeb, I think I’d tote around a big sheet of seamless in a nice shade of blue, rolled up like a yoga mat, and have someone unfurl it behind me whenever I had to be photographed against an unflattering backdrop.

  • RebeccaKW

I think if the blouse fit better, it would be great for her. Keep going in this direction, Kristen!

(also, I am very excited for Despicable Me 2)

  • Angela_the_Librarian

The kid in the background in the 2nd picture is probably dressed nicer than anyone there (love his yellow shoes and the fact that he went behind the velvet rope).

Something about the black/white combo and the style of the shirt scream pilgrim on a bender to me. Definitely should have went with a different style of shirt (perhaps a different color too).

  • scrappy1

The hair . . . the hair is making my eyes burn.

  • BerlinerNYC

I love it. Especially her hair/makeup. She looks so fresh-faced and young! She’s practically glowing.

  • nannypoo

In the last picture I notice that the pill-shaped creature is attempting to cop a feel. He must like the shorts better than I do.

  • Jessica Freeman

Is her stylist Kanye? Every appearance she is wearing something black and white and relatively or completely unflattering (See: Graham Norton show). And she’s a woman that would look great in color.

    • Tatiana Luján

Was she on the Graham Norton Show?

      • Jessica Freeman

OH yes, with Steve Carrell and a huge fly. But she was wearing a horrific white dress.

        • Tatiana Luján

Thanks, I’ll look fot that episode!

  • teensmom99

Once the stylist totally wins her confidence, they can talk hair.

  • Terry

I think toe cleavage should be banned by law.

  • majorbedhead

Droopy blouse, oddly shaped shorts, the shoes are too big and the hair is a bit lank. Her face looks pretty, though, I’ll give her that. I don’t really know who she is, other than a comedic actress (Bridesmaids, yeah?).

    • charlotte

Her comedic acting is stellar in my opinion. I loved her SNL work and she was also quite good in “Whip It”.
ETA: Not to forget her perfect portrayal of young Lucille Bluth on Arrested Development!

  • Tatiana Luján

She has some resemblance to Cathy Cambridge.

    • DilettanteDeconstructed

I was thinking the same thing! Cathy’s slightly-older-with-bad-hair-but-still-really-hot sister. Or American cousin.

      • HengRu

Mostly Cathy Cambridge, with a soupcon of Jennifer Aniston.

  • msdamselfly

    Looking good

  • MannahattaMamma

that’s a hella pair of shoes. superb

  • Zaftiguana

She looks cute, but I agree with the fit issues and think something a little less Depressed Jennifer Aniston would have served her better in the hair department.

Mostly, though, I’d like it a whole lot better if she hadn’t gravely disappointed me by adopting the Teen Starlet Holding Her Pee stance. Oh, girl.

  • marlie

Not great, but definitely an improvement.

  • conniemd

She has the right idea for the despicable background of yellow and big eyeballs. Simple black and white doesn’t clash or look stupid. Kudos for that.

  • formerlyAnon

Nothing more to be said, you guys summed it up.

  • carnush

    Super cute!

  • boldprint

    REALLY digging those shoes.

  • alyce1213

I think she looks so much better with auburn hair, the blonde she left behind washed her out.
I generally dislike dress shorts and pumps, but this is passable, but ill-fitted.

  • anotherkate

I’m just glad to see her in something a little cuter. She’s pretty, skinny, and talented–she has every right to look it!

  • Shawn EH

Those eyeball goggles behind her are pretty hilarious.

  • Hella stems.

    • ailujailuj

Yup. All she need is those to perch. Who cares what she tops off with. Bitch. I love her.

  • appliquer

And of course it is summer – hence the long sleeves.

  • looks a little too much like a caterer/waitress for me. the shoes help somewhat, but they seem totally unrelated to the rest. maybe some jewelry to tie it together?

  • Rand Ortega

While there are some fit issues, I think she looks young & fresh. The hair & makeup are flawless. Love that color of blue.

  • Love the shoes. Her face is looking very pretty and soft way these days, hair and makeup thumbs up.

  • Michelle Wilson

Hair and makeup are a huge improvement over last time and I like this look for her even if the proportions are a little off. She has great legs.

  • Trisha26

To me this looks ridiculously juvenile and cheap, and, I’m sorry, but “formal shorts?” There shouldn’t be such a thing.

  • Love the color of those shoes!

  • I don’t understand the shirt. Why is it forming a strange wormhole on her midriff? And where are the buttons? Brain… can’t… comprehend… Why isn’t this a simple white shirt…?

  • Danielle L

That yellow carpet burns the retinas.

  • yethica

  • largishbearishAtlish

The shorts read a bit ‘waiter apron’ to me (you know, just big enough to hold one of those note pad things). A bit of tweaking here would be amazing (and wow, GREAT hair too….great gays! and nice legs…)

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Wow, I did not realize she had such ferociously lovely legs.

  • Anniebet

At least her face and hair are damned good here. Clothes, not so much.

  • kerryev

Sheesh. She looks 20 in some of these. I should rethink shorts.

  • unbornfawn

She’s improving. I like her hair here.

  • I wish she’d stick with one identifiable hair color, instead of changing so frequently. I love her hair and makeup here. I see nothing redeemable about her outfit. The shoes look like wedding shoes; they don’t fit right. If anything, Kristen makes the outfit look decent. It does nothing for her.

  • MandyM

She needs a brighter lip color or a bright beaded necklace to bring some color into her face but she looks pretty otherwise.
