Kathy Griffin in Theia

Posted on June 18, 2013

Miss Kathy gets it right again. Y’know, she doesn’t get enough credit for really coming into her own on the style front as she’s gotten older. Her thirties and most of her forties were a nightmare of hideous dresses, but she’s been kicking it for a good couple of years now. We have to assume she hired the right person to help.

Kathy Griffin attends the 2013 Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards in Beverly Hills, California in a Theia black stretch crepe cap sleeve gown with French Chantilly lace inset from the Spring 2013 Collection.

This isn’t super-showy or runway-trendy. It’s just a really flattering dress that looks great on her. She’d look a little full of herself if she showed up at the Daytime Emmys in Chanel Couture, so we think this is exactly the right way to go. Not that we think Karl Lagerfeld is throwing dresses at her, begging her to wear them.

The neckline/yoke thing is a little heavy, though. And y’all know how little we’re loving black lace after years of it on the RC. But really, this just works for us. We love that bangle. Not so in love with the Loretta Lynn wig, though. Sorry, Miss Kathy.

    • Diego!

I knew it! THAT is not human hair!

      • MilaXX

        Kathy loves a weave.

        • Diego!

Well, she has lots here! :P

      • Lisa Utter

        Totally Reba McIntyre.

        • Diego!

I think Reba is slightly balder…

          • e jerry powell

            A little bit.

      • Rhonda Shore

        It’s drag queen hair.

        • Diego!

          hahahahahaa very ‘Starrbooty’ hahaha :P

I was fixated on the wig… but it is a nice dress.

    • MilaXX

I dunno, I think it’s a little sedate for the daytime Emmy’s. They used to rival country award shows for over the topness. She looks good, but I want cray.

      • Fordzo

I know. I blame the demise of the soap operas for leaving us with these boring talk show hosts. The ladies from the stories used to bring it.

        • Rand Ortega

Agree. Can’t remember the year, but TLo covered the Daytimes & my eyeballs spontaneously combusted. Good times. RIP Jeanne Cooper, last of the Soap Queens.

          • Fordzo

*Gasp!* How can you say that while Susan Lucci still draws breath?

            • Rand Ortega

Somebody kill me! I should’ve wrote, 1 of the last of the Soap Queens. Bless you for pointing that out!

I think some of that hair may actually be hers. I think all she does is hair piecse. Also, hasn’t she worked with Robert Verdi as her stylist for years now?

      • e jerry powell

But far from all of it.

The Verdi thing may have just been for reality shows, since they each had one.

      • H2olovngrl

On her D List show, she was very blunt about using wigs etc. as needed.

Aside from being too wiggy, she’s looking quite fab. Love her, btw.

    • teensmom99

If Kathy Griffin wouldn’t be able to find some good gays, who would?

    • Vanja

“I told you that was a wig!”

    • Kent Roby

Kathy has always loved her gays; she’s apparently hired some good ones as well. I think she just had to get past the attention-grabbing phase of feeling the need to dress “funny” back when she was truly on the D List.

Her body is rocking, so that helps. She is smart in so many ways.

I agree with you about her hair (wig?). It covers up an interesting part of the dress.

      • ampg

I actually suspect one of the reasons she couldn’t get it right, style-wise, when she was younger is that she weighed a bit more and probably couldn’t fit sample sizes. Which sucks, but there you go.

    • oyeyemi808

      WIG>

    • Fordzo

It helps that she has an amazing body.

      • H2olovngrl

She worked very hard to get that body. She was very blunt about that to, as she is on pretty much everything in her life.

    • l_c_ann

I would love to see that wig on an Irish Setter.

    • Stella Zawistowski

Girl, that is SO your dress.

    • Anna Vasquez

CAN’T with the Peg Bundy hair.

      But the dress is great.

    • mjude

she looks great. she really kills me.

    • decormaven

If she had a bit of color on the nails, this would be in WERQ territory for me, even with the foofy hair.

    • joanna dash

If she had put her hair up and painted her nails this would be a great look.

      • H2olovngrl

I was always under the impression that she doesn’t like to wear her hair up.

    • Little_Olive

I… don’t like the dress. At all. Much less for her.

    • Dan_In_NYC

Agree with @decormaven. With something happening on the nails and different hair, this would be creeping into the realm of a WERQ.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

She looks great. Too bad the hair looks like a wig…that was the first thing I noticed – fake hair.

    • Randy Noak

Now if we can just get her to give up the glitter eye shadow she always wears on stage, she’ll be set!

    • Sunraya

I am just totally distracted by how huge her head looks in comparison to that teeny tiny body! I can’t see anything else! I love her,but she is looking very freaky.

      Nice dress, though.

    • bertkeeter

      Agree…HELMET HAIR!

    • Heather

I’m kind of down with the wig.

    • quiltrx

Great dress, really flattering on her. And AMEN to the person who declared this “Peggy Bundy hair”!

    • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

She looks great. But she really could do with a new hairstyle. Something short might be nice. It just looks so heavy.

    • Synnamin

I actually love the hair on her. The height helps bring the dress up and makes her look longer

    • Alaska Snob

Anyone know who the bracelet is by? I love it.

    • e jerry powell

Where is that wig pinned? Like, two-thirds? I mean, I know the idea is to work behind the hairline, but that is just ridiculous.

    • bellafigura1

Uch, the hair is terrible, so ten years ago. She needs a new shape up top there.

    • macwell

Her gays are streerimg her in the right direction more so than not. Yay gays!

    • Judih1

Can’t see the dress or her face because of that horrid red mop of a wig

    • LauraAgain

Ugh, I can’t get past her thug personality. She looks like a bobblehead to me.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

      Hair hat must die.
