Halle Berry in Tramando

Posted on June 14, 2013

This isn’t a bad starting point for a prego-dress, but we’re not loving the overall effect.

Halle Berry attends the special screening of ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ as part of the 2013 Champs Elysées Film Festival in Paris in a Tramando dress paired with Brian Atwood sandals.

Pick a hem and stick with it, we say. Otherwise, this really works. Love the neckline. We kinda dig her messy hairstyle but she really needs to retire the smokey eye.

And girl, you’re 46 and pregnant. No one is expecting you to show up in 4-inch heels and ankle straps. Let’s be sensible here.

I don’t see swelling in her ankles…remember, she’s not a mere mortal and she CAN wear heels when she’s preggers. She’s so lovely i don’t even notice the smoky eye. Agree on the length though – the handkerchief hem isn’t working…

    • ailujailuj

hmmm… ankles… I see her as having suspended herself upside down for a better part of a week to make sure all that fluid-n-stuff you don’t talk about at parties stays north.

    • Little_Olive

Even so, those shoes are so 1998 (well, a tad better than the ones I’m recalling).

I say NO to the liquid-paper stain on the bottom. Random and not pretty.

    • capybara_cafe

I was just about to say “I can’t believe her ankles aren’t swollen!”

I don’t care for the eye makeup, I feel like it’s cruising that fine line between smoky and bruised. But other than that I think she looks amazing. For some reason the hem isn’t bothering me.

  • Yulie29

I love that she’s finally done something a bit different with her hair, so I’ll forgive her the hem.

  • carlaaxtman

Whomever is doing her makeup needs to reconsider the dark shit making laps around her eyes. It’s making her look exhausted (she probably is–but stll–makeup shouldn’t be aiding and abetting it)

    • TAGinMO

The “consumption eyes” mini-trend a couple months back was bad enough. I really hope Halle is not kicking off the “chemotherapy eyes” era.

  • marlie

This isn’t bad. I agree that the hem lengths should match a little better. I *love* her hair, and her makeup looks very pretty, though I wish she had a color on her lips.

  • Ros

Pick a neckline and stick with it, I say.

  • Maryanne525

I’m 29 & NOT pregnant, and I’d snap my ankles like two twigs in those shoes. Halle Berry is a robot.

  • whirligig7

We can see her bellybutton… which I’m hoping is just some strange trick of light…

    • Natalie Bryan

Pretty common when you’re pregnant. Mine went from an innie to an outie and was super obvious through everything I wore.

    • barbarienne

This creepily made me think her baby is trying to escape via early Caesarian.

  • Richard

All I really have to say, is that this hair style makes her look so much younger. Her usual hair stye is so aging.

    • jen_vasm

This comment makes me chuckle. What, Halle looks all of…..36 with the usual pixie?

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Beach coverup over spanx slip. This is not the way forward for maternity dressing.

  • teensmom99

With different shoes, the he would work for a loose, flowy summer dress. And she looks amazing.

  • carnush

I think she looks great. Love the dress and LOVE the shoes.

  • Patrick Cleary

The shininess is making all the hills and valleys (nips, belly button) show up weirdly.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Meh. Not in love with any of it. Really hating the make up.

    • LaurieS

I agree about the makeup- she looks sickly!!

And again, I must agree with TLO: WHO THE HELL CAN WEAR THESE SHOES WHILE PREGNANT? Do she and Cathy Cambridge have magic feet or something??

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

True story: I have canckles. No matter my weight, no matter my hydration level. While I was pregnant, I was a glowing goddess (in my mind anyway) but my ankles were so swollen that people used to stop me to express their concern. People in my office brought me foot stools after seeing me walking in the plant. It was hilarious. I wore flip flops nearly the entire time (both times) I was with child. So I will add “skinny ankles while pregnant” to the list of reasons why Halle grates my nerves.

        • LipstickForPigs

I had pitting edema. It was completely disgusting.

  • MilaXX

I kinda like this and I’m typically not a fan of the scarf hem. I ain’t even made at her for still rocking the heels. Her feet and ankles haven’t veered into Kim K territory. She’s been pap’d around town wearing sensible maternity wear. These are just for the premiere and I imaged she’ll go home and kick them off.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

Elephant feet will chase KIM 4EVAAAA!!!

  • TAGinMO

I, for one, do expect* Halle to show up in 4-inch heels and ankle straps notwithstanding her 46-and-pregnant state.

    * – That’s “expect” not as in “demand that she do so for my satisfaction,” but as in “would be shocked if she didn’t, based on past observance.”

  • Gwyndall

If you look at the shot where she’s waving, you can see her real silhouette through the sheer over-dress. This ensemble makes her look WAY bigger than she actually is!! WHY would you do that!?!

  • PastryGoddess

I can’t get past her face. She looks tired and stressed.

  • Jessica Freeman

This pregnancy does not seem to be kind to her given her tired eyes and face. I am hating the sheer overlay situation. It just looks sloppy.

  • majorbedhead

I’m 46 and the thought of being pregnant at this age would fill me with dread. And exhaustion. Much, much exhaustion.

She looks good, but I still dislike her.

  • filmcricket

Halle Berry pregnant still looks a million times better than I do not. Bitch.

My only real problem with this look is how tight and shiny the underdress is. She looks tired, but that’s to be expected. Love the hair.

  • Annarosa

    what about some make up?

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Lipstick, what’s with it these days? Some lady stars have lips so intensely bright that looking at their picture hurts my eyes and some look like they aren’t wearing any at all. I think Halle could have used the “happy medium” of lipstick application here. It would have brightened up her whole face.

  • formerlyAnon

Being pregnant at 46 would have filled me with dread and much, much exhaustion [ETA: didn't mean to steal majorbedhead's words, but they must have struck a chord because I did. Sorry.] , so I’m not surprised she looks tired. But overall, she is still looking amazing. Given the amount of medical intervention this pregnancy probably required* I hope she’s feeling well enough to enjoy it.

    * I do know that many women have gotten pregnant completely without modern medical assistance at 46 and older. Statistically, though, odds are against.

  • AlisonS

I get she’s preggo, and wearing the stilts of footwear but she looks so damned tired. I’m 90% sure this is due to her makeup choices. Seriously girl get some new gays. The old ones clearly hate you.

  • BlueBell42

I cannot abide sheer overlays on anything, let alone with a scarf hem. And wow, does she look tired. Please get her some comfy pants and shoes, stat.

  • sweatpantalternative

Something like a fitted, knee-length slip dress might work better.

  • Beardslee

I do not like her hair at all. I think it looks awful. Her usual cut shows off her lovely face. This looks like bits of straw poking her in the eyes… and then my gaze travels down to the hem. Even the Halle can’t carry this off.

  • GwenDiamonds

You know what? I’m just going to say this: a Pregger Lady can wear whatever the hell she wants if it makes her feel good! And if I looked 1/10 as good as Halle (and am NOT preggers), then she is on a higher plane of existence than the rest of us mere mortals. Wear what you want, you pregnant lady, even if you are famous!

  • nannypoo

Hate the hair. She looks better in short hair than any other living celebrity, including the men, so I hope she’s not growing it out.

  • ailujailuj

please, sirs, can I wear my hair that way?

  • Lola Channing

when was the last time she actually appeared in a good movie? She won an oscar for Monsters Ball ffs. Everything since has been maximum crapness. What a shame.

    • quiltrx

I don’t remember her ever being in what I would consider a really good movie. I didn’t mind Gothika, so I’m going to answer 10 years ago. :)

      • Lola Channing

This is true. Gothika was okay. At least one movie Ms. Berry can include on her resume. ;)

  • e jerry powell

The basic neckline is okay, I guess, but the layering seems so… déclasse somehow.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

is she on the beach or what?

  • AmeliaEve

Eek! The dreaded side mullet dress.

  • Robin

am I mistaken or can you faintly see her belly button?

    • Carrieanno

Yes, you can. And I keep thinking if I stare at it long enough, I’ll be able to see a little ultrasound image of the baby, too.

  • melanie0866

I can see her belly button.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Not sure I needed the reminder that she’s my age. Ouch.

  • mhleta

I really like it. Its flattering and gives illusion where illusion is needed. And I soo appreciate her sparing us the stupid baby bump pose. Beautiful as usual.

  • housefulofboys

I kind of like this dress, I remember liking flowy type things when I dressed up when I was pregnant. And I don’t even mind the shoes worn briefly for a premier event, since she is clearly not suffering from puffy feet. Only quibble I have is how her belly/bellybutton kind of shine through the black dress, but not a big quibble. I agree with other poster that her hair looks much better shorter and spikier.

    • conniemd

I also immediately focused on the belly button poking ? through the dress and I couldn’t unsee it. I think I’d like the dress better if the sheer flowy material wasn’t all uneven at the bottom below the hemline, but was much closer to the actual hemline and flowing around that.

  • mrspotts66

“prego” and “preggers” need to be retired along with her smokey eye.
other than that, i’m diggin’ her look.

  • MemHey

I’d just be concerned about catching that hem in a heel and taking a tumble…

  • Renate Yerkes

strange “shaved mug” thing going on with the make-up.

  • quiltrx

Actually my biggest problem with the dress is the underdress–it’s either too tight or the fabric’s too thin, I can’t tell which. Anyway, I can’t abide seeing anyone’s bellybutton silhouette on the RC, and especially not a pregnant one.

  • demidaemon

This would be better if A) I could not make out every detail of her stomach and belly button through the fabric and B) She lost all the stupid, unnecessary shear crap.

  • bellafigura1

I think she looks fantastic! Dress is divine, shoes are scary but beautiful.

  • LadyKateC

You can see her belly button, but depending on how far along she is – this can be sort of inevitable towards the end – the belly button pops out like one of the little plastic timers on a turkey! Also, looks like she is growing her hair. Hair grows insanely fast during pregnancy – I myself had a pixie cut pre-pregnancy that I grew out – I couldn’t afford to get it trimmed every 2-3 weeks. (Though obviously not a problem for Halle!) Growing out a pixie cut is really awkward, there is a phase where it just funny.

  • Mor Sh

It looks like she’s growing her hair out. I hope so. She’s had that short, spiky do for forever.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

and when you’re forty-six and preggers, the smoky eye can turn into the totally tired and worn out eye pretty quick.
do i need to apologize for the use of “preggers”? i noticed someone upstream objected to it. perhaps my valley girlness is shining through. totally.

i usually don’t mind a little belly button display but now that it’s pointed out, it’s beaming like a beacon in the night, and not looking especially attractive doing it. i do beg to differ with our fearless leaders (long may they reign) re: the hemline. usually i object to the frankenhem, but here i like it. it’s giving me gatsby, in a good way. i know, in a few weeks we will be choking on gatsby, and there will no longer be any possibility of good gatsby. let’s enjoy it while we can. i agree the hair is at an awkward stage, but with less product it will look fluffy and cute. note the use of “will” instead of “would”. a note of optimism: hope on the horizon.

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I agree about her heels. Look at her face. She isn’t feeling well, or she’s tired. Seriously. She looks exhausted. I’ll go one step further and say that walking in these high heels isn’t good for a woman’s back or a woman’s body who is 46 and pregnant. Halle doesn’t have to stay home wearing a tent and eating ice cream, but I hope she’s taking care of herself.

I like the dress AND the hem. :-)

  • lilazander

I love how you guys are sensible, it cracked me up!

  • lilyvonschtupp

She has this whole Tina Turner meets Lena Horne type of vibe going.

I’ll always hate Halle for having those perfect shoulders.

  • Mimi

She’s looks simple and devine, her skin looks amazing as always. Yet the layering is a bit sloppy at the neck line, and her hair is a bit to floppy.
Her heels go great with the hem line and the jewelry is just enough sparkle;-) well done over all she is pregnant
