Hailee Steinfeld Double Shot

Posted on June 12, 2013

Miss Hailee, please step forward for some avuncular homosexual judgment.

It’s … okay. It’s hard for anyone a generation or more older than Hailee to not see this as somewhat frumpy and mature for such a young girl, but we’re all going to have to just hold on to our harrumphs, because someone in Hailee’s age group just sees a pretty print and an easy-breezy dress.

Having said that, Tory Burch is still a bit on the mature side, aesthetically speaking, for someone as young as Hailee. And we don’t love the hair. Harrumph.

ATTAGIRL. Love your shoes!

This feels sharp, modern, chic and perfectly youthful in a sophisticated way. And we LOVE the hair. In fact, this is one of her best looks in a long time, in our opinion. She’s really been going off in a style direction lately that doesn’t appeal to us, but this is just about perfect, as far as we’re concerned.

She’s definitely in a grey/black/yellow mood this week, hunh?

    LOVE the second look!
Children Mending Hearts Style sounds weird. Events these days…

  • aeb1986

she looks OUTSTANDING in the second look. i love everything about it. total werq!

re: look #1. if the dress was shorter, she took off the cardigan and grabbed a different pair of shoes it would be…well, better at least

  • Introspective

look 1 feels good but nothing so special as to merit comment.

but look 2? TO DIE. dress is spectacular and the hair, makeup and especially those shoes punch up the look from business to pleasure in a heartbeat. not a werq but she’s rocking the look for sure.

  • That second look really bats it right outta the park. She looks, smart, sweet, hip and stylish all at once. BLAM!

That first look? Ummmmmm, my Hungarian granny had a dress and sweater just like that. Of course she accesorized with orthopedic shoes and medical hosiery.

  • Wendi126

Reminds me of a kids book. country mouse – city mouse. She looks at least 5 years older as a city mouse. I love that I have no idea what this teenagers cleavage and upper thighs look like. She’s adorable

    • charlotte

I had forgotten about that book, but I was very into it!

  • Look One – Everyone’s favorite English teacher.
Look Two – Newest intern at the young and hip architecture firm downtown.

Both cute looks Both non offensive in their slightly more mature than her actual age vibe.

    • Little_Olive

I was gonna say, look one – Elementary school teacher romcom character. Named Sarah (aren’t they always?). Maybe Jen Garner.

Look two – you are absolutely right, as it does look a skosh like she is trying. I like it but I don’t love it.

  • Heather

Love the second dress/shoes, but it still feels like TMM (Too Much Makeup) for a girl her age. She almost doesn’t look like herself. Hate the lipstick color.

    • Beardslee

I agree, that’s a whole lotta makeup for such a young girl. That is a great dress and she looks really sharp but that makeup is too much.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Yup, what you said. I love everything about the second look except the makeup–the eyes are overdone and the lipstick is horrid. I think the first look is fine..not great, but fine. Some kicky flats and a different (or no) cardigan would have made it younger.

  • sugarkane105

I COVET that second dress. It creates such a nice, feminine shape.

  • MilaXX

First look could be cute, if they dropped the cardigan and added some cute flats. Then it would have more of a country girl vibe. Love the second look.

  • teensmom99

Yes and yes. And my teen has a cheaper version (Audrey Brook) of the macrame shoes. Actually, she’d find the Tory Burch too long (she’d want very short or maxi).

  • She’s adorable, but the state of her eyebrows is making me a wee bit twitchy.

  • Rhonda Shore

LOVE second look, first would have been better with a thick patent leather belt and shorter length.

  • marlie

I’d actually take BOTH of those dresses. I live the firsts because I’d pair it with a cardi and wear it to work. The second is a hot little going-out number. And I LOVE the shoes in the second look.

  • Erica_Vuitton

1st look – If the shoes were black this would’ve looked fine.

2nd look – GURL! You are shutting DOWN that RC! Teenaged snaps of respect!! (Anyone else see Julia Styles in the last pic?)

Re eyebrows – We (we = people who tweeze their brows) have all had that awkward week where you over plucked and now you have just suck it up and let them grow back in so you can reshape them.

  • flamingoNW

That Sportmax dress is really truly awesome and she looks great in it.

  • Love that second look completely! The first dress, I covet for me, a sure sign that it’s way too mature for her.

  • Amy909

LOVE and WANT the shoes in the second dress. First time in awhile I’ve been wowed by shoes, as celebrities usually stick with the basics.

  • mjude

1st look is cute & maybe the dress a skosh shorter?
2nd look…LOVE…oh to be young again

  • crash1212

I don’t mind the first look – easy breezy, as you say – but – that second look is perfection! I would cut a bitch for that dress.

  • PastryGoddess

Hand over the sandals and no one will get hurt

  • snarkykitten

I really hope I’m not a decade older than her…but regardless, that first dress is really frumpy. Just because the pattern is cute, doesn’t mean the dress isn’t aging

  • That second look is so good I retract my criticism of the first.

  • Jessica Freeman

The second look she nailed it. The perfect deployment of the insanely popular neon, in which the general public is burning everyone’s eyes out with. First look without the cardigan would have been much better.

  • nannypoo

She’s so cute and I have come to expect her to dress well, so her recent fiascoes have been doubly disappointing. The first look here is so bad, including her old-lady-at-the-casino manicure, that I could weep. But the second look is adorable and perfect in every way. I feel much better now.

  • TropiCarla

L.O.V.E. the second look – even though they pressed the hell out of the inverted pleat. I loved the more voluminous finish on the model.

  • j_anson

    That second look is amazing.

  • Anniebet

Well, dang…from the ridiculous to the sublime. Maybe she didn’t bother with a stylist in the first look and went all out with the gays in the second, ’cause it’s off the charts cute.

  • Write On

I saw the second look and said, “Nooooow, you’re talkin’.” Aloud. To no one. So that would be an IN from me.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

First look, grandma’s clothes. Second look; the girl you wished you were in high school. Brava, baby girl!

  • PeaceBang

LOVE her in the StyleMax dress — the whole outfit is fabulous.

  • Imasewsure

The first look is kind of real girl but she looks cute. Love the second look and can deal with the make up since she doesn”t always so that big

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Wowee wow wow! Second look is aces!

  • bertkeeter

Pic #1 ….in memory of Edith Bunker. Pic #2 Mary Tyler Moore Show.

  • pattycap11

    i just love her.

  • DamH

the MaxMara look deserves a WERQ. BIG LOVE.

  • ankali

She’s got a pretty good RC history, but that 2nd look may be a personal best. Fantastic!

  • Eovaai

That second look is pure perfection. The hair is fabulous.

  • Annarosa

    First look: hell, no.
    Second look: WOW!

  • I love everything about the Sportmax look, save the lipstick, which is a little too neon for my eyes. Yes, the first look is a little aging/conservative, but it would have shown better if she had taken off the sweater for the photos.

  • FancyPhilly

Can’t comment on Hailee, too distracted by the model in the Tory Burch dress looking way too much like Cersei Lannister. Cersei Lannister on her way to the weekend house, but still devilishly pissed off all the same.

  • Tamara Hogan

Gawd, I want that Sportmax dress. WANT WANT WANT.

  • reebism

Look #1 is what I’d wear to my cousin’s bar mitzvah. Look #2 is what the actual fashionistas of the family would wear to my cousin’s bar mitzvah.

  • mmebam

The problem is that the first look really is an easy breezy print that would work pretty well in juniors. The problem is that everything else is wrong. If this were a cute mini dress with strappy metallic sandals, it would work so much better.

  • librarygrrl64

That second look is a WERQ!!!!!! Adorable! The first dress is pretty, something I would wear. But I’m 49. So, yeah, not her look.

  • jackiecoh

As soon as I saw look number 2, I said “holy shit!” (in my head). LOVE that.

  • jhedman

I’d wear that first outfit without changing a thing, but I’m turning 50 in a month and a half. The second outfit is perfect for her.
