So basically she’s wearing… a vest as a dress? It kinda works though, only because she’s so tiny that it actually covers her cooch.

  • Judy_S

    Exquisite space alien.

    • NinaBoo

      I see Jane Jetson.

Oh dear, is my age showing?

      • 3boysful

. . . his son, Elroy. Daughter Judy. Jane his wife. And the dog was Astro.

      • drdarke

If so, then mine is too, @NinaBoo:disqus ! I was humming THE JETSONS theme as I read this….

I think Emma Watson makes this work – even her shoes and bag match without being matchy-matchy.

    • Anplica Fiore

Exquisite space alien waitress. But I have to admit – I love this look on her

      • TonyGo

Guinan has your drinks ready for table 7.

  • iheartbuffy

She looks pretty bad-ass, but a little too matchy and those are downright STRIPPER heels.

    • Coolekat

at least the shoes fit her.

    • drdarke

You say “stripper heels” like that’s a bad thing, @iheartbuffy:disqus .

Personally, I think she looks kicky and stylish without looking overdressed – and given she’s not tall, she probably enjoys wearing high heels to give her the illusion she’s taller than she is (kind of like how Stana Katic insists on wearing them all the time on CASTLE, so she’s not staring at Nathan Fillion’s Adam’s Apple in two-shots!).

      • ankali

Wait, Katic’s short? Well, good for her; I’ve been thinking of her as a long drink of water all this time.

        • drdarke

Stana Katic is tall for a woman, @ankali:disqus – I think I read that she’s 5’9″, and whippet-lean so she looks even taller. The problem is Nathan Fillion’s a big guy (6’5″, I think I read?), and she felt it was important that Beckett not look short standing next to Castle, so she made High-Heeled Crimefighter part of her character (they’ve even lampshaded her uncoplike wearing of heels on the show a few times!).

In scenes where she’s got her shoes off, one or the other is almost always sitting or lying down – though there’s that scene in “Murder, He Wrote” where she’s naked under her bathrobe, and when they’re standing side by side snuggling you realize just how much taller than her he is.

I’m sorry I literally cannot understand present-day Chanel RTW anymore. WHERE IS THE CHIC

    Someone had to say it.

    • Thanks for that. I was beginning to think I was alone in that opinion.

      • drdarke

I think Chanel’s gone more for sportswear and casual, which is more what this looks like, @kiltdntiltd:disqus .

Says the guy who knows zip about fashion, and wears cargo pants everywhere….

      • StellaZafella

I like this okay…Emma’s clearly good in it.

That said and re: This thread:
        I loves me some Chanel,
        This is not Chanel.
This is the retro-futuristic mind fart of some eccentric, opinionated geezer with a pony tail…
(oh, my gawd…that sounds like me, except I don’t get PAID millions to think this kind of shit up!)

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Karl needs to turn over the reins, IMHO. Maybe his beloved cat could try designing.

      • Derek_anny

I must say, it will be interesting to see where Chanel goes when he’s gone.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

As a fan of chic, I love Coco but I hate Chanel.

      • Jeremiah Capacillo

THIS. Coco favored clean, easy lines and restrained chic. Karl, on the other hand, favors steampunk-hipster-zombie-Marie-Antoinette-goth or whatever it is he dubs chic.

  • I wasn’t big into this dress when I saw it in Chanel’s runway photos, but seriously, Emma is rocking it so hard it makes it look like a must have.

    • RinPauler

because she didn’t pair it with the ridiculous tweed-like pants like the original outfit, which is a smart move.

      • Funkykatt

I am definitely with you too. LOVE IT!

    • Rhonda Shore

This is working head-to-toe for me. She’s gorgeous and so is the styling. Black/grey matchy matchy doesn’t irk (the way matching yellow polka dots w/yellow shoes might, for example…).

  • majorbedhead

I love it. I like that she had the bottom ruffle thing removed – it makes it dressier and more youthful. And I like the open collar. Not loving the platform shoes, but you can’t have everything, I suppose….

    • Monkey Toe

I think the bottom ruffle thing is a pair of shorts.

  • gabbilevy

Those shoes are awful but the dress is doing a fine job of being sexy, sharp and a little bit different all at the same time.

  • Emily Smith

ooo this is fun. this would be SO AMAZING on zoe saldana for one of the star trek premieres.

    • iheartbuffy

I think Zoe is too tall though and would look pretty naked in it, while Emma, being so tiny (she is! I saw her in person!), can get away with it

      • Emily Smith

I was just thinking that it has a very…sci fi..trekkyish look to it. something about the styling with the hair and the earrings and the back collar on it.

    • Rhonda Shore

  • Emily Giovanni

    She looks awesome! Totally badass.

  • Tatiana Luján

The fabric of this dress is so heavy I think it needs to be worn with tights. It isn’t a summer dress.

    • charlotte

She must be sweating and freezing at the same time.
ETA: She’s in LA, so only sweating.

    • ceceliadid

Exactly. Girl, that’s not your season. This looks itchy.

  • cmb123

The coat (?) dress (?) is cute but looks itchy as hell and out of season. She needed a better shoe too. Her face is great

  • j_anson

If she wants to do fashionista, THIS is the way to do it.

  • MilaXX

I like this and really have no complaints about the look, but I think Emma’s too sweet for it. I would love to see Miley Cyrus in this with her current blonde hair.

  • Janet B

She looks beautiful, but this feels heavy for May.

I like the long top/vest the model is wearing.

  • Diego!

I loved this look. She looks stunning! It’s a WERQ to me!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I think so too! One if my favorite looks for her!

  • Constanza Álvarez Espinoza

I think she’s really overrated but she definitely looks fantastic here.
Except for those shoes, burn them!

  • got strangely excited to see naked nails. more of those, please.
It’s not that I have a problem with polish (i’m a junkie, in fact), BUT — it’s such a WELCOME, refreshing step away from (as you say) “Pinterest nails” that I get ridiculously stoked to see naked fingertips.

Also: EYEBROWS. Hers are just awesome, always.

    • Lanus

I was thinking the same thing about her brows….My GOD. please, Emma, lead the call back to nice, NATURAL brows…tidied but not just barely removed from a 1930’s permanent look of surprise…..

  • CakesOnAPlane

will someone teach me how to do my hair like this? Hair and makeup are fabulous, and the dress is good, for winter.

  • JP

That middle section of the dress, the kangaroo pockets? Not flattering, even on someone as tiny as Emma. Love the hair, though.

  • marlie

I sort of wish that she went without the belt, but I think this is cute. Though, she keeps trying to make “Edgy Emma” happen, and it’s not really her best look.

  • MsOlympia

I love her eyebrows, so much.

  • mjude

she looks so damn cute. just love her.

  • Carla_Charlton

Geez — those shoes are terrible! Clunky and, frankly, tacky.

  • cowper

  • MK03

    Yikes. She looks crazy uncomfortable.

  • LongTall_Sally

I really like the neckline and the cut of the armholes — very flattering.

  • Chipster

Shave her head and she would look like Lieutenant Ilia in the very first Star Trek movie.

  • decormaven

I wsh she had stuck with the runway version. This worn as a dress doesn’t speak to me.

  • siriuslover

Love those ear cuffs. I like the look on the model better–a bit more rock-n-roll–but Emma looks good here. And her hair is much more interesting than it was a couple of days ago.

  • Donna Schmidt

    She’s gorgeous

  • Lesley

that collar is too sci-fi i don’t like it at all. she looks like a high fashion space cadet, something you’d see from the Jetsons. but i want those earrings!

  • Lindsey Romain

Modern retro office lady in space. I LOVE. Hair/make-up are great and damn girl, them legs.

  • sweetestsith

I can’t decide how I feel about the dress, but I think her entire head looks absolutely fantastic. I don’t want to look away, and I bet its even lovelier in person.

  • NMMagpie

She looks great, stripper heels and all. I’d much rather one of these tiny lady stars wearing clothing that actually fits on them rather than the avalanche of badly fitted and hemmed garments that do not look good on shorter women.

That, and she looks fantastically confident, as if she does not care what anyone thinks. 🙂

  • M. H. Leader

Very cool…I really like this look on her. She looks very 22nd Century, but it’s really a good look for her. Good job.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

She looks like an exquisite futuristic cigarette girl. And I mean that as the highest compliment, I think she looks fantastic.

  • pattycap11

    love it!

  • Kristina Toma

I can’t be the only gutterbrain, but…those earrings? Totally look like diamond encrusted spermies.

Though I do like the idea of them, my brain’s adolescent parts just can’t be silenced.

  • FeminineLipstique

The dress looks a bit heavy for June.

  • GillianHolroyd

This dress just looks *padded*. Agree with the others that it is too stiff and heavy for this season.

  • Danielle L

Loving the subtle braid in her hair.

  • blairdawn

Love everything- especially hair, makeup, and nails. Dress is badass, but perhaps a little out of season for May.

  • MichelleRafter

Gorgeous makeup and hair. Accessories all wrong for that dress, which would have looked adorable with some skin tight black leather pants.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Love the hair and those earrings. Dress is just ok.

  • jenno1013

I want to love it but it looks to me like she’s wearing recliner fabric.

  • carpediva

Don’t like those shoes with it (they need black pants IMHO) but otherwise I loves it. Think she looks bangin’ and she knows it. Hermio-me-oh-my!

  • crash1212

I pretty much love everything about this look. That standy-uppy collar is ever so flattering and her hair and makeup are flawless. I enjoy the changes she made to the dress to suit her, but I’m also loving the runway version. Nicely done.

  • shopgirl716

Looks really heavy for June. It’s 100 degrees where I am and even though the dress is sleeveless it would still be uncomfortable. I think the shoes are too matchy as well.

  • filmcricket

I don’t care for the earrings and I wish she was wearing about a third less blush, but otherwise I really love this. I get that the tweedy fabric and the barely-there coverage don’t really go together, but I don’t care. She looks great.

Edit: I also love that even though she apparently felt compelled to re-grow her hair for her career, she puts it up so often on the red carpet in order to approximate the pixie that suited her so well. Can’t imagine we’ll be seeing cocker-spaniel hair from Miss Emma any time soon.

  • lbl

    Love it!

Yeah, the fabric may be a bit much for June, but I don’t care. Her hair isn’t swept across her forehead in that annoying way she’s been fond of recently and she’s allowed some volume even with it pulled back which suits her face more than the slicked back styles. Also, her makeup is much improved from her last look.

I think this is the classic with an edge that she’s been trying and failing at for a long time. For me it’s a WERQ.

EDIT: Have her eyebrows changed? They seem fuller and a bit less tamed than usual. I approve.

  • Beardslee

Ah, June. The perfect month for tweed.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Sorry, Emma, you’re never going to beat January Jones at bitchface.

  • In_Stitches

This is a look that requires a lot of attitude and when I hear Emma Watson, the first thing I think of in terms of style is…quirky. Still, it’s a fabulous dress, styled to perfection. It’s a close call, but I’m gonna go with, “She’s pulling it off”.

Looks like a Seth Aaron dress, no?

  • formerlyAnon

I LOVE her hair and like the dress a lot. But somehow the face falls flat for me – it’s still too sweet for this look. Maybe the answer wasn’t so much *more* makeup, but a palette with a harder edge? More eyelashes? I don’t have the makeup chops to really know.

  • NOLA_gal

LOVE IT. (I might even kill for those earrings)

  • LaSylphide

Shoes and bag: too matchy. Dress: cute, but I think it looks better with the zipper up; the collar doesn’t sit right with the zipper pulled down like that. Hair and makeup: perfection. And I NEED those ear cuffs. I mean, i really NEED them! Overall, the best she has looked in a while.

  • kim bunchalastnames

she looks like a really really adorable upscale judy jetson.

  • River

I actually like this; my only quibble is I would have liked it better without the belt, so the line of the dress was crisper and not quite so body-conscious.

  • kirkyo

Kind of wish we could see this with the zipper up a couple inches, like the model is wearing it. The lines look a little cleaner that way, but maybe that would also throw off the proportions?

  • Jellybish

This is Outer Space Cocktail Waitress, and I love it.

  • jhedman

She looks great but (flip filp flip) yeah, it’s June… she would be totally rocking this with a skinny turtleneck, black tights, and kick ass boots in December. Love her hair and makeup, but the dress (vest?) read “winter” to me.

Also, when the clutch actually disappears, it’s too matchy. The shoes would be insane on anyone but a starlet, but she more than qualifies there. The jewelry is awesome. Lovelovelove those earrings.

  • poggi

I want to live in a world where I can wear those shoes.

  • Sara__B

I wish the fit were a tad looser, but she looks fabulous from head to toe anyway.

  • Love the hair and makeup, but much prefer the winter incarnation of the dress.

  • Cynica

Tweed. In Los Angeles. In June. That must be comfortable.

  • l_c_ann

In close up the fabric looks hellish scratchy, but maybe that’s what the Romulan high command specified from Chanel.

She really does have a beautiful face, doesn’t she?

  • Anniebet

Over the top adorable, even with the heavy fabric. Love the earrings, the shoes, the clutch, and her.

Her face here is total perfection on a stick. Who knew when she was a scraggly little tyke at the beginning of the Potter films that she’d turn into a world class beauty!

  • That’s a great neckline on her, but I feel like that’s not the right belt for this dress, if there even is a right belt for this dress. Looks cuter with the looser 60s-ish a-line fit on the runway.

  • Space woman on a job interview?

  • JasmineAM

I hate it. It gives her linebacker shoulders.

  • YayaGurl

Project Runway Indoor/Outdoor Carpet Challenge Runner-up

  • VicD

This is a small thing, but I hate those earrings. She looks like Spock’s granddaughter.

  • Sadie-Ann

She is the cutest little space cadet, isn’t she?

  • Nonmercisansfacon

She’s making it work. No a WERQ but a You Go Girl!

  • Melissa Brogan

I think she looks really cute. I have a couple of quibbles, like the handbag or shoes should have had a little color, and the pockets spanning waist to hip are a bit voluminous without hands in them, so at a side shot they’re not terribly flattering. But really cute overall.

  • TheAmericaness

I think she looks fabulous. I admit I had to look LOOK at her for a few seconds and make a decision about the angles of the outfit, but, no, she’s pulling it off. The hair, the makeup, killer legs, great shoes – I wouldn’t be surprised if she pulled out a wee gun and it turned out she was a mod spy! Love.

  • bd73

love it, head to toe fabulous. and mad props to her brow wrangler.

  • demidaemon

I am on the fence about the collar. It’s a little…overdone. Also, while her hair and makeup are very pretty, i don’t think that styling goes with this dress. That fabric also looks really hot and itchy.

  • ankali

I think I’d prefer this with tights and boots, but she still looks pretty fabulous as is.

  • bellafigura1

Wrong season, but awesome dress and shoes are very good, yes, booties would be better.

  • amanda lynn

Oh, she’s preparing us for the DRAMA when she’s poledancing for the Bling Ring. I’m ready.

  • kerryev

Whoa, somebody got thematic with the accessories. I love the dress, though. *I* could rock that dress, and I am not even close to Emma Watson-y.

  • quiltrx

Total BORG QUEEN and I am kind of loving it!

    • Iroqhard

HA! Now that you point it out, she is totally giving me Borg Queen realness. And I dig that.

  • She looks beautiful, her hair and her makeup. But the dress/skirt needs that last bottom tier for the design to work.

  • Caitlin O’Brien

I have to say, pretty much flawless in my eyes. Earrings are TO DIE. Makeup gorgeous.

  • Perfect. She loves the weird and edgy, and this one actually works.

  • Carol

    I, uh… hmm. No.

  • I really like this. I bet Evan Rachel Wood would really like this, too, once she has her baby.

  • Those earrings are amazing.

  • lalahartma

    Love it! Nice legs, girl!

  • Meg

    She’s just…SO much cooler than I am.
