Christian Siriano Resort 2014 Collection

Posted on June 05, 2013

“My Resort 2014 collection is inspired by current modern abstract art, specifically the graphic qualities of gestural brush strokes in the works of Nicholas Wilton, Kristy Gammill, and Jenna Snyder-Phillips. Their modern takes on graphic shapes, lines, wide stripes and color inspired some of the prints and fabrics in the collection. These artists’ works — though modern — have vintage quality, which helped to inspire some of the looks that recall the 1960s. I wanted the shapes to feel fresh and youthful but still classic, elegant, and ladylike for my customer. She wants to be well-dressed day-to-day, but comfortably so, and so we have included more sportswear in this collection. In addition to our signature cocktail looks, there are quite a few smart and fun separates for day and evening that incorporate vibrant color: fuchsia, yellow, and purple.” Christian Siriano

Several of these are quite cute, but I don’t think of leather as “resort.”

      • MoHub

        Kors had leather as well.

      • Garcia Loca

        Depends on the “resort” :)

      • StrandedFashionista

I agree. It would be awefully hot for the ladyparts in a leather skirt at a resort-type situation.

    • Julie A. Arms

I’d actually buy some of the day length dresses. I want, want, want the T strap shoes!

      • cindiaune

Yep. Those shoes are fab and actually *gasp* look wearable! And the clothes are really striking.

    • MilaXX

I saw this on facebook. What a pretty collection. I love every single piece. There are still a few grand dresses, but no big puffy Siriano gown. LOVE!

    • Introspective

Way better than the Kors resort dreckitude. I dare say that the contestant’s taste level has surpassed that of his erstwhile judge.

      • Mona_Visa

The student has become the master!

      • Glam Dixie

Exactly what I was thinking as I scrolled through, way better than the Kors collection.

      • TheAmericaness

I don’t think I could handle hearing Kors ever complain about a contestants design looking like a costume ever again. All they have to do is start humming the theme song to the Flinstones….

      • j_anson

Hah, I was just coming down to comments to say the same thing!

    • deathandthestrawberry

The top three striped looks are fabulous. Bravo.

    • MoHub

      Like, like, like!

    • Lizzy

I’m shocked at home much I really love most of these… the long purple one being the odd guy out.

      • smallgirlsaretrouble

That’s the one that grated for me too, otherwise, I really quite like these

      • unbornfawn

      • j_anson

I actually like the long purple one, but it doesn’t look like it belongs to the same collection.

    • Rand Ortega

The student has exceeded the master (God, I’m such a geek). This is head & shoulders above the Duchess’ collection. It’s hot, fun, sexy & playful w/ color & silhouette. Way to go, PPS!

      • Meg0GayGuys6

I was thinking the same…Sorry Duchess, but Princess Puffysleeves has turned the tables on yo ass

        • Rand Ortega

    • Ekw

      Fierce, fab and fun!

    • marlie

This is beautiful! Some pieces are a bit overdone, and there’s nothing revolutionary, but really beautiful silhouettes and great colors!

    • Miss WKS

This guy is good and getting better every collection. He truly is becoming “the next great American designer”.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Our little princess is all grown up! This collection is sophisticated, lean, modern and well edited. The gown with the complexly decorated white skirt is dazzlement personified.
      Bravo, l’il Chirstian!

      • raininmai

        “the complexly decorated white skirt”

I was struggling to find the right words to describe the dress. Bravo!

        • Gwyndall

          • raininmai

            I don’t know…I’m seeing bug eyed aliens. 😉

            • joything

              Cthulu skulls.

            • quiltrx

I see someone else saw the same as me (I commented before reading but was sure there had to be another HPL fan here somewhere!)

        • kaysarasara

          I was thinking “betentacled”.

        • adnama79

I was going to call it the beautiful squid skirt… It’s fantastic!

      • j_anson

I do love that skirt, although the dress as a whole is fundamentally unwearable.

    • Tatiana Luján

A very derivative collection, am I wrong?
Nevertheless, I love many of the looks.

      • ChiKat67

I was thinking the same thing, like if someone told me this was from Valentino I wouldn’t be surprised.

        • Tatiana Luján

I was thinking Oscar de la Renta and his striped dresses.

          • Loren S

A few of the skirt silhouttes struck me as very Dior.

            • demidaemon

Everything is derivative when you start picking it apart.

      • Igor Buarque

The separates with the white knotted top and the black skirt reminded me M. Martin Margiela last season.

    • majorbedhead

See, Duchess? THAT’S how you do a resort collection. Very nice.

    • purpleprose78

I covet that blue leather jacket. And very pretty.

      • joything

        Me too.

    • formerlyAnon

I LIKE this collection, by and large. I can’t say anything about how fashion-forward or on trend it is, but I bet he’ll sell a lot of these.

      • adnama79

A LOT of this is wearable, esp the separates (duh). The white jacket w/ stripes would look matronly on its own, but I hope a retailer picks up the skirts – esp the button front – and I hope, I hope, I hope it’s at a price point I can do. (HA!)

    • hughman

This “resort” must have the most insanely expensive gift shops ever.

    • ceceliadid

The day looks are stronger than the nighttime dresses, although the last gown is striking (Lucy Liu, that one is calling you).

    • susan6

Great job, princess puffysleeves! I love pretty much everything in this collection, although the “bride of Cthulu” dress is a bit out of place.

    • crash1212

I love this. It’s fresh and spare (well, the day looks are) and I love the color combos. Of course, I’m a sucker for anything striped! Also…those shoes? WANT!

    • In_Stitches

It’s hard to tell who he is as a designer. These looks are fairly minimalist and clean with a few fussy, extremely lady-like details. They tend to be in monochromatic fabrics. Previously he’s gone for textural looks utilizing print.

Maybe he’s on a quest to find out…If so, I’m loving where he’s headed. This collection is pretty fab.

    • shawnhunter

      i really love these!

    • Guidosdaddy

Angelina needs that off the shoulder leather-Cthulu-designs dress.

      • joything

You and I think alike, Guidosdaddy. Cthulu skulls.

    • NMMagpie

    • raininmai

Very striking collection. Most are wearable, though many of them make the model appear pregnant. The green, black and white color-blocked set would be wonderful with a neckline adjustment that doesn’t cut the model in the throat. I love the skirt on the dropped shoulder looking dress, but the top just looks awkward. It’s really nice though to see a PR alumnus doing so well.

    • NoveltyRocker

I like the straight-across neckline modified with a small v. I can see that showing up on future dresses.

      • Donna Tabor

It’s called a Vee Boatneck, and it is very flattering.

        • NoveltyRocker

Ahhh, now I know what to call it when I’m asking around without being all, “it’s like straight across like what Audrey Hepburn wears in Breakfast at Tiffany’s but with like an indent but not like a true v—” and they’re like, “I’ve never seen that movie.”

    • PinkySlinky

Color blocking has had its moment but the collection is very pretty. Great lines throughout…

    • Anniebet

Wowser, he’s really delivered, hasn’t he? Love them all. I covet, adore, need those shoes. Kudos to the Tiny One, he’s come a long way, baby.

    • SignLadyB

Is it my imagination or has Christian really taken the most advantage from his Project Runway time of any of the designers? And if so, I would also say he has grown amazingly from Princess Puffy Sleeve. This collection, overall seems quite salable and wearable!

    • FashionShowAtLunch

A couple of looks here are kind of off, but on the whole, absolutely gorge.

Least favorite: hiddy purple dressoverpants abomination.
Most favorite: Last dress (or is it separates?)

    • mechanical_orange

I really want that purple leather dress. I don’t know and I don’t care what that says about me.

    • Donna Tabor

Princess Puffy Sleeves no more! Love the bright colors, the black and white, and the bold graphic qualities of this entire line.

Could he be the next Geoffrey Beene? Very ladylike, wearable, beautiful garments.

    • conniemd

I really like this. Finally a resort collection that looks like my concept of “resort.”

    • RedRaven617

Love the color palette. The color block pieces look a little “Mondo-esque” but I love them just the same.

    • Neen

Wow, looks like a different direction for him. That said, I want it all!

    • jkatkins

      Wait…there are clothes? Can’t….take…eyes….off…shoes….

      • RedRaven617

Something tells me that we can’t get those at Payless.

    • Nancer

Love that he took a new direction! This is a beautiful collection. Sure, there are some misses – like the white batwing sleeves on that white top (seventh from the top), but I love how modern and fresh this looks! The colors are bold and graphic, with just a hint of Grace Kelly in the shapes of some of these dresses. Love it.

    • joything

I can actually imagine myself in some of these clothes, mixing separates for a variety of looks. Way to go, Christian! You’ve earned my imaginary paycheck!

    • anotherkate

Love the elbow-sleeved dresses, hate the bootcut pants (especially under dresses/tunics, gah!).

    • Julie Chase

Gorgeous. And I would kill for those shoes.

    • quiltrx

LOVE LOVE LOVE. Black and white is, admittedly, my ‘thing’, and he picked all the right colors to go with it. And I SO hope there is a Payless version of those zigzag shoes!

And I’m sure it will get a lot of flack (haven’t read the comments yet), but I actually kind of love the Cthulhu dress. I would totally pick that for an RC just because it would certainly be talked about. And, you know, The Great Old Ones would be so pleased.

    • mjude

      LOVE IT

    • unbornfawn

I have to say this is the first collection since winning PR that I’m really seeing growth as a designer. He has stepped away from a lot of the frippery and has given us some nice clean lines as well as visual interest and he has learned how to design for retail. This collection should do well.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Wow! I love it. Practically everything. Very refreshing from him. He’s used color before in his resort collection but every time I see someone wear one of his designs on the red carpet, they seem to choose a dark color or worse, a fru-fru gown. This seems much more him albeit toned-down fierce.

    • dschubba

I don’t know what’s going on with that lavender pillowcase, but I like the rest.

    • Charles

There’s a few rather banal greyish looks but love the overall effect. Even the leather, though I imagine not everyone will like it in a resort collection.

    • Sunraya

I’m shocked! I haven’t like his stuff at all, but I adore the striped dresses and long skirt and love the dress on the right, 10th down! Wow! I wish I were younger, thinner and rich! I would own about 5 of these!

    • Vivi N

      Killed. It.

    • somebody blonde

Fab. There are a couple clunky ones, but they look good enough on the models that they’re not hurting the others. I absolutely love the colors, though.

    • Colleen

Love it all! But I have to say it… that black and white skirt makes her look like she has a luggage tag hanging from her vagina…

    • charlotte

I want to go to that resort.

    • Kate4queen

      Ooh! Very nice!

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

Mostly enh. Hate the feathers. That one gown looks like Cthulu is spawning. I do like the bold stripey looks.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

This is by far my favorite collection by Christian. I’ve never been a fan in the past, but really like many of these pieces.

    • CommentsByKatie

Wow, this is stunning! This is my favorite Siriano collection ever. Only a couple of of them (second to last and third to last) venture into Opulent Fug, his weakness. Love that this is more toned down and chic.

My favorites are the diagonal checked black/white dress, and anything with the bright striped color fabric. What a fabulous print!

    • ballerinawithagun

I must have those shoes! Except for the leather dresses and the one cheap looking purple evening dress, he did a great job. The pink, black and white stripe is very familiar, I saw it at a store in Palm Desert, why can’t I come up with the designer???

    • alyce1213

Lots of fun and color, great shapes. I need the black & white T-straps desperately, DESPERATELY!

    • pattycap11

i really like what he came up with from finding new inspirations. his designs were often too eccentric for me, not that i don’t like eccentric, but i didn’t like his eccentric. this is a different story.

    • Diane Browning

    • Adrianna Grężak

These looks are either great or tragically bad

    • Carrieanno

      He’s on his game.

    • clairellis

Some of these dresses are amazing. Some of these are not amazing.

    • Imasewsure

Wow I don’t like any of this except for the one long billowy black dress… there’s nothing new or fresh here…

    • demidaemon

Some of this I wouldn’t have guessed as coming from PPS. But some of the later gowns were just strange and unflattering silhouettes.

    • ankali

I appreciate how strong and bold the colors and shapes are. My favorite part of the collection, though, is those T-straps. Mama may have to splurge.

    • AutumnInNY

wow! love this collection, especially the blue violet top and pant and black dress. Congrats Christian!

    • siriuslover

I was prepared to laugh until I cried because Christian Siriano =/= resort wear to me. However, I am moderately impressed. Some of these are really very, very nice (though I did snicker at a couple of them).

    • marshmallowjane

I love almost EVERYTHING! I do not like the white top with the white wings/sleeves. I love Siriano. In fact, this is one of my favorite collections of Siriano. Toned down in a way. More wearable than past designs.

    • lilyvonschtupp

Looks like he killed Princess PuffySleeves

    • M. H. Leader

Gosh, these looks are gorgeous. There are a mere 2 or 3 I’m not crazy about. But they look like they would flatter the figures of women who wear them. Gorgeous collection!

    • blueberrypanckae

it’s rare I see a collection that I want would want most ( if not almost all) the pieces! I have loved Christian from the start on PR – He has proven himself a winner

    • WintryMix

Some gorgeous pieces here! Oh, Princess. You make me so proud.

    • annabelle archer

Gorgeous. I know he uses typical model sized women, but I am happy to see that women of shape, curve and size could really rock some of these pieces as well. I am seriously wanting a handful of these dresses.

    • SassyMcFrench

What I love about him is that I can see myself in almost all of the designs! They’re not “beyond” most women.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I see a Bill Blass influence in many of the pieces. Someone’s been studying the archives for inspiration. Good for him, it could be worse.

    • Diego!

I loved this collection! Way to go Princess!!! This is definetely the path he should follow, chic and elegant. Very very nice!

    • PastryGoddess

Aside from a few clunkers this is a pretty solid collection. Love the color

    • NYCGlamourpuss

That little elf can do no wrong! LOVE!

    • EEKstl

I’m actually loving virtually everything here.

    • Neva Reese

Just say NO to leather baby dolls with rosettes.

    • Pennymac

You go, Princess Puffy Sleeves! *SNIFFLE* so proud! We knew you when!

    • amanda lynn

this isn’t the point – but a lot of these designs could go plus size and look great.

    • Glammie

A good chunk are still overworked for me, but some of these are the best I’ve seen him do. Good for you PPS–and for staying the course and being a designer instead of falling into the ex-reality star vortex of endless cameos.

    • MaggieMae

Most of it is not to my taste, but I’m very happy to see PPS continue to stretch and grow. No one is going to look at this collection of his and say “Of course”.

    • kimiakay

Love love love these. You win the resort collections so far, for me at least. You’ve accomplished exactly what you said in your intro up there, Sir Christian. Comfortable, smart, fun, reminds me of the ’60’s, but doesn’t exactly copy it.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

MIchael Kors should lick Siriano’s boots this year.

    • vitaminC

Fab, except for that hideous blue/violet blouse + bell bottoms. I’ve seen pastry crusts that were better folded.
