Well this makes me feel 1000 years old.

    • StellaZafella

I’m five years younger than her and just looked in the mirror and absent-mindedly patted my turkey waddle-(ette).
And still – I love her.

      • hughman

Oh I love her too. I just remember seeing her centuries ago in “Sunday In The Park” and “Into The Woods” and “Song and Dance” when I was a young gayling and she, well, kind of looked like she does now while I just drove off a cliff.

        • Rand Ortega

I’m sure you’re still adorable, dear, hilarious hughman!

        • Coolekat

She had the most incredible skin.

        • formerlyAnon

To be fair, she’s probably spent waaaay more money than you on improving/preserving. Sun protection only goes so far.

(And, yes. I remember seeing her performances in the olden days – though only live once, the rest filmed – and I do feel so, so old sometimes, thinking back. One of the tolls we pay for the privilege of still being here.)

  • slightlybitterkitten

A successful completion of a Project Runway “unconventional materials” challenge.

  • Nicholas Paganelli

    They are so CUTE!

  • ceceliadid

    Ageless and adorable.

  • Ashleigh

    • Rand Ortega

      WHAT???? Nuh-uh!

      • steeg of their own

        YEAH-HUH! Amazing isn’t it?

        • Rand Ortega

Every genetic marker in my body is crying.

          • rhaazz

Holy cats. There should be an Oscar category for “ageing impeccably.”

          • Rand Ortega

Brilliant. Though, only 3 people would ever get nominated. Bernadette, La Fonda & Queen Helen of Fuckingfantastica.

    • Lucía Gavello

God! I need to hit the gym.

      • drdarke

@lucagavello:disqus – I’m not sure it helps. I read this first AT the gym while on the exercise bike….

        ::sobs uncontrollably::

    • another_laura

There must be a picture in an attic somewhere that looks awful….

    • anyalama

      My first thought exactly.

    • drdarke

You mean both of them put together, right, @facebook-1612711759:disqus ?

Please tell me that’s what you mean…..

    • e jerry powell

      Dass right, muthafukkahs!

Just did the FOLLIES revival, for crissakes!

    • barbarienne

      Holy crap.

Usually I would say, “Well, she probably has a really excellent surgeon, and goes to the spa daily,” but look at her HANDS. They’re less wrinkled than mine, and I’m 20 years her junior, AND people compliment me on having really good hands for my age.

Hands are usually the dead giveaway, the one thing that unguents and science can’t stop from aging. I want to know what lotion she uses. (Heh, she probably does the lotion-and-socks-to-bed thing.)

    • xmixiex

  • Amaranthine loveliness.

  • Rand Ortega

This cruel & unfair parade of the ageless must cease immediately!

  • EdithP

65 YEARS OLD PEOPLE! I wish I looked half that good now.

    • colleenjanel

I was JUST going to post the same thing! SIXTY FREAKING FIVE!!!!!

      • majorbedhead

She’s SIXTY-FIVE????? *goes off to cry in a corner*

        • EdithP

          As should we all.

          • She lives to make us realize what lesser humans we all are. But I can accept it as long as I can hear her sing.

          • Derek_anny

While I don’t quibble with their choices, I’m always kind of sad when excellent genes haven’t been passed on.

  • steeg of their own

How many kittens do I have to sacrifice to look that good at her age? Love the dress, love the color, love the makeup, love her skin, love the hair, love the arm candy. Well-played, Bernadette.

    • StellaZafella

Not kittens…looking this good takes bathing in the blood of virgin New York debutantes.

      • She and Angela Basset meet at the secret ‘spa’ and bathe in whatever crazy concoction they bathe in.

        • marishka1

Joined by Lenny Kravitz. And Cicely Tyson.

      • IMNAngryLiberal

Oh sure, if you could find one.

  • MzzPants

    She looks fabulous. Timeless bitch.

  • colleenjanel

I should really hate this dress. The unfinished edges, the see-through netting … but DAMN, she looks good!

  • Emily Wilson

    She ages in reverse.

  • MilaXX

Another one that looked better on tv than it does here in stills.

  • She rules.

  • conniemd

I irrationally hate Bernadette Peters. She always seemed a bimbo to me, I wanted to strangle her for that stupid voice. She looks good here.

    • Vickiefantastico

Right there with you. It was the Annie movie that did it to me. I saw her in that as a little girl, and I hated her so much. I never got over it.

I will admit, she looks gorgeous. Full stop.

  • gabbilevy

All of the feels! They’re adorable.

  • cowper

Who is that fetching young man?

    • StellaZafella

      Her lunch.

    • MikeW_Vegas

That is Andrew Rannells. Original cast of Book of Mormon and recently on the “New Normal” (cancelled by NBC)

      • I thought I recognized him! Canceled? Sob.

      • porcupie

He was also amazing as Elijah on GIRLS.

  • She still looks lovely! This color is great on her. As is that nice young man. Who is he? And where can I get me one?

    • MikeW_Vegas

LOL sorry Sara, Andrew plays for the boys’ team…

      • Oh, I don’t care which team he’s on. He’s nice to look at. (I’m not that far behind Bernadette age-wise.)

  • frannyprof

    She looks amazing!

  • MikeW_Vegas

One of my favorite Divas, looked fantastic last night.. No comparison to anybody else.

But, while we’re on the subject, WTF was Patti LuPone wearing last night? And why was Cicely Tyson channeling her inner Yzma?

  • kimiakay

Never change, Bernadette. Love your dress, and those curls are fantastic.

  • jmorino08

I’m not going to say anything. That side-eye she’s giving in the first picture has sufficiently put me in my place…

  • Sonja Brisson

Who is the dude!!! I just looked up her bio, and she’s 65…I saw her on Broadway 4 millions years ago in ‘Sunday in the Park with George” and she actually looks pretty much the same, maybe thinner. So, who is the dude?

    • JauntyJohn

That is Andrew Renells. He originated the role of Elder Price in “The Book of Mormon” on Broadway, was in Lena Dunham’s “Girls” for a while and was one of the leads in the tv show “The New Normal.” He also did a very funny number at the Tony’s with NPH about being a theater person on a tv show.

  • emchicago

she is up there with peggy lipton as the most ageless wonders …

  • Janet B

Her hands look so young and pretty.
    I’m a bit jealous.

    • formerlyAnon

Yeah. At 65 it’s hard to have hands like that, even for a few hours, no matter how well you’ve protected your skin from the sun.

  • Anniebet

First pic had me worried… the rest are to die for. She’s gonna be showing up 20-somethings for another 20 years.

  • Bow down mother f#$%@!*.

  • Carla_Charlton

And THAT is how you might look if you protect your skin from the sun your whole life, which I’m sure she has.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

I met her once in Miami Beach – she was walking down Lincoln Road with a mutual friend. It was late afternoon and she was wearing a hat and carrying an open parasol and clearly had a layer of block AND make-up. Long sleeves. It takes dedication.
I wish I’d listened to my mother, who walked around with a similar set up. On the other hand, I’ve had a lot of fun at the beach!

      • marishka1

How on earth did you know it was her?!? 😀

      • Fordzo

        That last sentence, FTW.

I certainly don’t want my skin to look like saddle leather, but how can one not want to (at least once in a while) lay on the beach, smelling like a coconut, soaking up that warmth and digging your toes in the sand? I mistrust anyone who does not hear the siren call of the ocean.

        • etselec

You can enjoy the ocean, smell the breeze, walk in the sand, and even stroll through the tide whilst being totally covered up. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

    • nannypoo

I read an interview in a magazine ages ago, and that’s what she does. She always protects herself from the sun. I guess it works.

    • omg_dora

…And if you had great genes and invested a good sum of money in cosmetics and plastic surgery.

Many people avoid sun damage and don’t look like that at 65. Or at 45. Let’s not forget that when nature is allowed to do its thing, people do actually AGE.

      • Carla_Charlton

If she’s had plastic surgery, her doctor is the most skillful cosmetic surgeon around. She doesn’t look like she’s 30, mind you — you can see her age a little in her neck and her arms — and in person on the street she would probably not look as youthful, but she looks remarkable here — not weirdly young.

  • bertkeeter

Love the braiding technique on gown…very etherial and un-contrived effect. Great color!

  • Lizzy

It’s in essence plaid. Plaid is my favorite color. For that reason alone I love it. And I think it’s the perfect green for her coloring. I do kinda wish the stripes had ended at the flair.

  • Jonquil

I could say I am iffy on the hair, but it would be out of line for a mere mortal to criticize Her Ageless Majesty Bernadette Peters.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Some things should never change, and Saint Bernadette is one of them. Fabulous bitch,

  • Bethany Fairbrother

She is awesome. And I look like her, or so I have been told by very kind people.

  • Bethany Fairbrother

I remember watching her in “George M. Cohen” and “Sunday in the Park with George”. She is such a talent!

  • SewingSiren

I want the ring so bad. It looks like it might have magical powers.

    • Fordzo

Ha! I was thinking it looked like it held poison.

  • Mary Stone

That lighting is SO harsh, it even made the boytoy look awful.

  • JP

Somewhere in her attic there is a painting of her…

  • quiltrx

BOW DOWN, you aging bitches! (including me) She is just all kinds of fabulous!
And I generally am not a big fan of ‘unfinished’ looks but this one is really pretty.

  • nannypoo

Her hair is a bit icky, but everything else is perfection.

  • MK03

Andrew Rannells is so freakin’ adorable. Just look at that smile!!

  • formerlyAnon

I like that gown a lot. She’s been looking increasingly . . . *preserved* in the last decade, but it’s a damn successful effect, overall.

  • marlie

    She’s another one… She just doesn’t age. She’s gorgeous.

  • MannahattaMamma

Oh. So THAT is why a person is supposed to stay out of the sun? So that at 66, a person has skin like that instead of like beef jerky, which is the direction I’m headed?

    • Fordzo

Not even her hands give her age away.

  • Fordzo

Every time I see her at the Tony’s I gasp, because for some reason I think she died (I’ve been having this reaction for several years, which says something bad about my memory, but that’s another discussion, for another day. Perhaps with a medical professional.). WHO do I have her confused with?

I really hope we get to talk about Cicely Tyson’s dress.

    • colleenjanel

      Gilda Radner maybe?

      • Fordzo

No, not Gilda. Some other red-head with a squeaky voice.

But, every year, I’m like, “She is resurrected!”

        • Supernumerary

Madeline Kahn, perhaps? I always confuse them courtesy Mel Brooks films, despite the fact that I love them both and should know better.

          • Fordzo

Yes! OMG, it’s like I’ve had an itch for 5 years and you’ve just scratched it!

That said, I didn’t know Madeline Kahn died…I loved her tv show. She was hilarious.

  • watchmeboogie

    *snaps up* Fabulous as ever.

  • Di

Ok, I love her, but you can’t put up pics of her with Andrew Rannells and expect me to pay any attention to her. He’s just too adorable. LOL

  • Diego!

How old is she? What is she having to look ageless for years??? She looks very chic!

  • hailtree

    Now THAT is a broad.

and I mean that in a good way.

  • wildemoose

I have a friend who had her sign his arm and then got the signature tattooed. Coolest tattoo story I’ve ever heard.

    • She’s one of the few who that would be worthy of.

  • Damien W

Great color for her. And it walked really well on stage. Love huh!

  • MaggieMae

    Bathing in unicorn milk.

  • She looks great. She doesn’t look happy about posing though. The dress is beautiful. Nice color. Shredded chiffon? I’ve never heard of that. But one of the reasons I hang out here is to be educated. By the time I see Fashion Police, I’ve already seen the show’s entries.

  • Andrea Lentz

    sooo much green.

  • rajf

Honest to god, even her hands and neck look better than most 40 year olds’. She must not do anything with those hands (dishes, weeding, picking up a pen) no knobby knuckles for her…and of course they must be continuously gloved before sunset. I thought Meryl Streep had the best neck/chest/decolletage in this age group, but now I know I’m wrong, wrong, wrong.

  • DesertDweller79

Oh my goodness. I feel so inadequate. She is about double my age and looks absolutely amazing! I cannot even imagine how much money she must spend on skin products to get her skin to look that good. Wow!

Lovely color on her. Like the jewelry. She’s basically amazing all the way around. Wow.

  • Jeff Warhurst

I wish she’d relax her hair a little. It reminds me of a wig you’d see in a $10 wig shop.

  • SportifLateBoomer

That gorgeous vampiric skin is the product of never letting it see the light of day, ever. I have a friend who’s not much younger than her w/skin like that. It’s her best feature. I want that dress. She’s one of my favorite divas. Was fortunate enough to see her Gypsy.

  • librarygrrl64

I love the gown until you get to the mermaid train. personally, I don’t care for them, and I think it can be a lot of dress on someone so petite. Beautiful color and shape for her, though. Not crazy about the accessorizing.
